Hello! I’m looking for a partner (or partners) for a written DnD-style campaign. Instead of sitting at a table and talking, we’d write our responses like a regular RP. No voice chats!

I’m still fairly new to DnD. My first proper introduction was through Baldur’s Gate 3. I’d love to learn more! I’m happy to write with anyone, whether also learning or a veteran.

I’m hoping to play as my Elf Monk. If someone reading this would like to DM, I’m absolutely open to that. If not, I’m prepared to run a 1x1 session where I act as both DM and player. I know that can get weird but I do have every intention of playing fair. It's no fun playing a rigged game, win or lose!

I’m still deciding on what kind of campaign to run and am completely open to discussion. I’m leaning toward something short-term just to test the waters. Feel free to bring suggestions!

What I’m looking for in a partner:

• Someone who, like me, is in an older age bracket. I’m in my 30s. I have zero interest in romance RP, but I am comfortable exploring darker or heavier themes when the story calls for it.

• Someone who enjoys writing. If you like playing with language and painting scenes with words, perfect! I don’t care about post length. Quality over quantity. I’m simply looking for someone who writes clearly, with the usual occasional slip-up being totally fine.

• Ideally, someone who’s open to setting specific days for RP. This isn’t a strict requirement, just a preference. I work, and some days I’m too tired. I'd like to schedule dates in advance to focus in on the rp at times that align with when we are free.

Other details:

• Yes, we’ll use dice!

• Character sheets are preferred! have one ready to go.

• I don’t care what gender you are or what gender you play.

• I enjoy tongue-in-cheek humor, so if you prefer your stories serious at all times, we might not click.

• I’m open to playing on here, over Discord, or Google Docs, but I’m happy to consider other platforms, too.

If you have any questions, hmu!

I had someone ask how I would like the RP to work with dice, so I put together an easy to understand guide. Hope it helps!

How the RP Works

We'd be playing a DnD-style story, but in writing instead of around a table. The pre-written campaign we choose provides the general plot, but we, the players, write all actions, reactions, and creative details.

Using Dice

Dice are only rolled when a character tries to do something that could succeed or fail. Such as searching a room or attacking an enemy. A player writes what their character wants to do, rolls the dice, and includes the result in their next post.

Shared Control of NPCs

NPCs aren’t assigned to one person. Anyone can write their actions or reactions when it helps move the story along.

Example:
• Player A writes their character’s action (like punching a goblin) and rolls.
• Player B writes their character’s action and the goblin’s reaction to Player A’s move.
• Player A then continues by writing their reply and an NPC reaction to Player B’s move (if applicable.)

The only time an NPC would not be free game is if we discussed and decided on it. For example, Character A has a brother important to their quest line. This brother would be played by Player B to keep things fresh and fair.

Passive Checks (like Perception)

These can be written casually.

Example:
• Player A: A examines the bush. (Rolls)
• Player B: B walks over and asks, "Find anything?"
• Player A: Responds based on the dice result. What they find d
• epends on their roll.

Dice Result Meanings

• 1 = Total failure
• 2–5 = Fail
• 6–10 = Success, but messy or awkward
• 11–15 = Normal success
• 16–19 = Great success with style
• 20 = An amazing, almost legendary success

Creative Outcomes

Instead of relying on the campaign to dictate specific results, players decide what will happen. So instead of the campaign saying “you find nothing on a low roll,” we can choose any fitting outcome. A 2 might mean:

• finding nothing
• startling a snake
• discovering something gross
• misunderstanding what they’re seeing

Character Sheets

Character Sheets would be used as usual. When rolling, the character's abilities and skills would be added as in a tabletop run.

Example:

• The Player rolls a 10 for Perception
• The Character has a +2 in Perception
• Adding that together results in a 12 - A general success rather than an awkward success.

Any other questions? Let me know!
