Note: The following is a Victorian Gothic horror inspired game, with heavy influence from Koudelka/Shadow Hearts, Demon Slayer, Castlevania, and Bloodborne. It started as an idea for a webcomic/anime and even a DnD Campaign Setting, but I've tweaked some things to be an RP instead. As such, think of the game as a Shonen, rather than full on Horror.
The setting is Victorian Europe, 1888.
In this RP, your character, one way or another is seeking the Hellsingers, to join or for their aid, resulting in them training you due to a lack of supplies (The Vatican has sealed itself off from the outside world with the new political regime within Italy after all). Feel free to come up with a character from all walks of life, and from anywhere in the world. You may meet a Taoist, an Eastern Martial Artist, an Italian Puppeteer, a German Nun, and more! The church doesn't refuse the aid of those outside of the church, such as scientists or even magic users, so long as they do not Blaspheme or wish Dark upon the world. (Basically, you could be a Witch, a Tesla Punk Scientist, a Knight, a Chimney Sweep, whatever, as long as it fits the theme and time period).
The power of Prayer/Faith is a very tangible thing in this RP, so keep in mind if you want to make someone like a Paladin or Cleric. (Yes I'm aware that Knight types are seen as a ceremonial role, but rule of cool) If this drums up enough interest (I'm thinking 3-4+ Players, 6 Maximum) I'll do a teaser/example post as a Sneak Peak for people. As this is Anime Inspired, there will be points I show what's happening elsewhere to make it cinematic.
Summary:
Forty years ago, on the coast of the emerald isle, a Dark Ritual was taking place. An agent of the church was dispatched to halt the ritual, as well as return a sacred item used in it. The Seal of Solomon.
While the Agent was successful in halting the Ritual, he did not make it back, nor did he manage to halt the Seeping of the Dark.
While the Dark has always been prevalent, living within the shadows and forcing man to hide, the Seeping began causing an illness, known as Miasma. A rotted foul odor that would cause illness, and bring out the worst of humanity. Creatures of the night began attacking the helpless en masse. A dark cloud has spread across the island nations, and the Church has begun a hidden Crusade against the Devil Worshipers slowly taking Ireland, Scotland, and Britain. Until a man stepped forward, revealing he had extensive knowledge of the beings of the Dark. Ways to hunt them, eliminate the evil that now plagued the land. But the man did not tarry, for he had a mission, one held by an oath from generation to generation.
But in honor of his works, a Hunting Society within the church, that welcomed the select through a set of trials, was created and named after the man. They are The Hellsingers!
