Apologies if this has been suggested already, I ran through Jorick's blessed collection and did not see it (wonderful idea, really!).

My idea is simple in nature. Like the Big Mac with three buns, I believe our RP threads could benefit from the ability to create an additional tab. All jokes aside, I find this could allow the ability to build off other roleplays, inspire GM collaboration (perhaps allowing new GMs to work with more established names), and additionally aid in creating that inner-community feel. Here's an example:

A popular fantasy RP runs through a wonderful set of plot arches until finally the GM believes its time to wrap things up. They intend on continuing the RP, but hear alternate imaginings about how to do this. 1) Continue in the world 100 years later & 2) Continue w/ a group parallel to the first. Rather than choosing one or the other, they simply open a second IC tab. One is designated for idea #2 and the other #1. New and old players become involved in this world, sharing similar pools of knowledge and coming together as a whole with their ideas and reflections.

I also understand there may be a few concerns. One would be people continuously adding tabs and stuffing their RP. To that, I'd suggest a limit of 4. This provides 2 OOCs and 2 ICs if necessary, or some other combination. I would also point out that many RPs simply remain in the same thread, choosing only one possible idea, or if they do continue on -- well, I don't see many Part III's. Another concern may be that this seems superfluous. I'd suggest that the idea would allow for a "persistent world" structure that is actually possible to maintain with one or two GMs. If the OP is able to mark themselves and others as GMs (therefore having some editing abilities w/in their threads) this idea would only become more useful.

I'll only state that this idea can wait. I believe it could be a positive feature, but I recognize other areas deserve your attention first, Mahz. Just thought I'd let you mull over this idea. You're doing great work so far!

This has been discussed before in multiple threads. Custom tabs are in the works.

I think personally I separated those two ideas: custom and 2nd or 3rd ICs/OOCs. One seems like a bonus, but simply having custom tabs would solve my idea. Well, damn, wish that'd occurred to me before.

It must not have been a very thorough read of the comprehensive list. "Custom thread tab creation" is the fifth item on the list of things Mahz has spoken favorably of.

Kestrel brought this up as well. At the very least, introducing a Characters tab is a common request.

Custom tabs are the start of a cool direction of actually letting people shape a roleplay into something beyond the flat forum topic/post habit. Hopefully the start of a rabbit hole that inspires new ways of organizing roleplays for people with similar ambitions.

The forum is just over a week old now and I'm still locking down basic forum features. But I look forward to hitting the point where I can start iterating on the edge with features like this. I agree with your concerns, too. And I'm not sure what the solutions look like. I do know that the simple IC/OOC/Characters tabs are a good place to "freeze" at for most people. I would like to open an experimental category for people interested in going beyond it.

But that depends a lot on my ad situation a week from now.

I would prefer custom tabs over specified CS tab, what with not all RPs using character sheets, players disappearing and leaving now-useless sheets behind... In a sense, it is neater for the GM to just link the posts containing character sheets into the OP of the IC. There's a permalink at the upper right corner of the post.

Yeah, a drink and my mind is absolutely certain that "Custom Thread Tab" does not equal additional tabs. I did the read the list and checked for those which had positive reactions too, embarrassingly enough.

Totally understand. I do believe giving people time to get rolling while knowing there is this sort of potential is going to allow them to consider what could be done with possibilities like this. The structure alone would be very advantageous, as I said, for world sharing roleplays and others, so I'm looking forward to seeing what innovations people think up.

Again, sorry about the redundancy. Thanks for responding anyway!
