Spectrum of Sapphires

She was many things to different people.

To her parents, she was their only child.

To her friends, she was a connoisseur of books and knowledge, often keeping to herself.

To the people in the city, she was a princess.

To the scum of the earth who prowled the night-scape, she was a shadowy assassin.

If one thing held true above all else, it was that Urkwia was a young woman who defined the art of unquenchable thirst. She was always hungry for justice, for knowledge, for loyalty, for never backing down even with your back against the wall and the odds of favor heavily stacked against you. Urkwia was someone who had many colors but the brightest color of them all was certainly sapphire: blue. Blue, the color of tranquility and submission in most eyes, but for her, it was more passionate than any red, more alluring than any emerald hue. Urkwia was someone who wanted to harness the power of the sapphires which were so abundant in the city and the country of which her family ruled with fair hand and gentle ear.

Urkwia often holed herself away to experiment.

And it was in one of these experiments, that the princess uncovered the gems held a power beyond her wildest imagination. Not only could they make magic appear out of thin air, but they could also be used for time travel. She decided to continue the tests and in doing so, her path would continue to cross a certain male in another realm. Their homes weren't so different. He lived in a city, as did she. His world was full of fighting, as was hers. His country was ruled by one person, as was hers. He was passionate, as was she. And his world was often fascinated by the idea of magic, just as she was. As for her power, it was a line between those who saw magic as evil and those who saw it as a blessing.

Magic in Urkwia's world was not common and could only be used with the help of stones, such as sapphires.

The boy in question comes into the story as a partner to Urkwia. He has many talents and titles just as Urkwia does. He is someone who can help unearth the massive potential of magic across the world. He and Urkwia will embark on a journey in the name of exploration and along the way, they will meet new people and gain new allies and enemies. It's a classic quest situation, with plenty of wiggle room for having fun the modern era, as well as in the fantasy era. I will leave your character's traits and talents in your hands. Is he skilled at swords? Is he charming? Is he sneaky but has a soft spot for kitties? I want someone who can have fun with me, this is a fun plot which should give us lots of outlets to do what we want. We can have a more longterm spin on it and have our characters passing each other notes through the dimensions before they meet, it all depends on what you have going on with him.

I ask that you be active and be advanced in writing.

I want someone who is creative and takes the lead with me, not someone who is keen to follow and putter along aimlessly.

I'd like to express my interest here. I might be a bit busy for the next week or so, but after that school lets out and I should be freed up to commit to this. It sounds like a cool setting that you've created and it sounds like you have a lot of ideas for us to play with. If you want to do this with me, I think I would play a more outgoing and often reckless character, definitely skilled with the sword.

Alright, I think we could definitely work something out. I will be on vacation next week, for a week and I don't plan on lugging my laptop there, so that's something you should be aware of. I know it's a busy time with school for a lot of people though. A reckless outgoing character would be a good contrast, granted they're not too fiery with like, bad common sense or something? Some people do outgoing roles quite poorly.

I don't want to say bad common sense, as he would be fully aware of the possible consequences of his actions and wouldn't do ridiculous stunts for the sake of doing them. But, whereas Urkwia is bookish and keeps to herself, my character would like to indulge in social events and wouldn't hesitate to help a friend, even if that means getting in a bit of trouble. Also, while Urkwia seems to be motivated mostly by scientific (or in this case magical) curiosity, my character would be motivated by a simpler sense of adventure. By the way, what age were you planning on making these characters?

alright, just wanted to be sure. I've seen rowdy characters do awful things to a roleplay's progress but I do agree having someone more outgoing and energetic would be useful to the duo's dynamic. That sounds like a good idea to me. In terms of ages, I was thinking middle to late twenties, 24-27 range.

That sounds like a good age to me. I'll write up a more complete outline of the character tomorrow.

Sorry for the long wait, but I finally have a chance to breathe. My character's name will be Telio. Though born a prince, he did not allow himself to become spoiled by the life of luxury that his status afforded him. Not satisfied with simply learning what was written in books, he enlisted as a soldier, much to his father's chagrin, to see the conflicts of the world first hand. He gave one order as a prince to his commanding officer: treat me as you would any other soldier. And so his ass was kicked, and he was humiliated with his comrades in the military training, but he emerged from the trials a stronger man, and one that was adored by the citizens. He distinguished himself on the battlefield both with his blade and with his martial tactics, and became called "The People's Prince," for he was the one nobleman willing to sully his hands with the common man.

After completing a respectable term of duty, he set his eyes even farther away from home. He took up the craft of cartography and set off to fill in all those nasty blank spots in the kingdom's maps. He would return with gifts from faraway lands, bizarre weapons, and precious gems. But among all of his treasures, he was most drawn to the sapphire. Scholars said that they were magical stones with untapped power. Telio took to dabbling with the stones between his trips, but from what he could discern, the blank spots on his maps were only growing bigger...

Sounds good to me. We'll probably need to bear in mind the differences between each fantasy dimension but that can be done in the IC I suppose. I figure the heading picture could just be their appearances as is, if that's alright with you. I can get an OOC up for us so we can discuss where we want to start, in terms of the characters developing an interest in the gems and exploring the areas around them.
