History: Born a slave to a pleasure-worker in the Free Holds, Mathew knew what hid future held no great prospects. He was property - and his owner was never kind. She ran a business, and he was just another asset. As he began to age, he moved from cleaning the brothels to servicing clients; in the free holds, one can purchase anything the heart desires, and a comely lad has its appeal to pleasure-seekers of both sexes. Mathew himself never took great pleasure in the work he had to do, but knowing no other life, he did as his owner bid.
His unique mental powers lended themselves to his work; brushing gently over certain parts of the mind makes the experience much more enjoyable for both parties. Telepathy too allows another avenue of business; whores can often be talented informants, as a man is more like to let his secrets fall loose in idle pillow-talk, but a telepath can find secrets that maybe even the possessor does not realize. This allowed Mathew to sell secrets as well as sex, and bring his master all the more coin.
It was through such intrigue that the Queen’s Blade found him - telepaths are a rare commodity, and those with enough guile to evade persecution are even more so. One day, he was approached by a new client -- a Queen's Blade. After a night-long "interview" with Mathew in his bedroom, the Blade informed the telepath that the Blades had bought his freedom. From the free holds, they took him into Renalta, where was inducted into the Blades - due to the no-doubt glowing recommendation given by the bladesman.
Motivation: Now “free”, Mathew is content enough to serve the Queen’s Guard. Secrecy and intrigue bring him joy.
