"I suppose," Gallus conceded. Where Hiritus got the idea that Gallus was trying to convert him, he had no idea. "It didn't seem so bad to me," he added.

For a moment, Gallus considered asking if Hiritus had any family, but he quickly decided against it. He hadn't come up with any good reasons to spare Hiritus' life, short of possibly infiltrating Vile's ranks. He didn't want to tempt fate by letting his emotions get involved, like they did with Dar-tzesa.

Instead, Gallus took a topic from Hiritus' comments. "What's the obsession with clothes about, anyway? Are you all afraid of your bodies not being colourful enough?"

Rhazii's ears perked up as Jo'rashaad promised some fun. He wasn't keen on taking his tail out of his mouth yet, but the mention of ways to keep it out did not seem to faze him.

"I know," Fendros said with a high pitched, informative voice. "I was just assessing options. You have to understand, you don't get to practice marriage proposals. I..." Fendros' voice levelled as he got to the point and looked away, "This is a big event. I'm nervous. I want it to be memorable."

Hiritus managed to force himself to eat the remainder of his meat quickly, if only so he could get it out of the way first and end the meal on more of a pleasant note. Gallus' question, meanwhile, was met with a quick huff. "You'll understand in time, trust me. Particularly in Anequina, exposing certain skin, or fur, in is just rude. The lycans you've been living with aren't concerned with traditions, and social rules. The beasts are content flaunting their more private areas, like animals. It's something that civilized people just don't do. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say it's not your fault you don't know these things. For the clothes thing, it relates to attraction, and the fact that we don't want to constantly tempt each other."

Laying back on the ground, Hiritus started much more enthusiastically on a violet, native fruit. With his new, relaxed position, he let out a yawn. Even with the sun still in the sky, it was clear that he would be able to get to sleep quickly.

---

Jo'rashaad nodded. "This one understands, just make sure you choose the option that will satisfy both of you. Again, you know her better than Jo'rashaad, but she seems like the type that is devoted more to Hircine than her upbringing. We do not have marriage traditions, so if she does actually want a ceremony, she may not care which. Or, she might not want one at all. This one does not know. He has never actually been through one of the ceremonies, but he has of course heard about them. Two souls are bound together under the moons, connecting themselves through Jone and Jode with the crystallized moonlight. It does all sound poetic. That is a Pelletine tradition, anyway. Even this one is not too familiar with the ways of Anequina."

"Oh, it sounds like a cornerstone of civility," Gallus said with not quite enough effort to hid his sarcasm. "I can't imagine the nightmare it would be when people jump around and wave their privates in each others' faces ceaselessly. Far be it from me to assume that people can control themselves."

With a short chuckle to himself, Gallus found himself a seat and brought his eyes to the horizon. "I'll take first watch. If we haven't lost their trail yet, their scents will carry on the wind before halfway through the night."

Gallus hoped that his reasoning seemed sound enough. He wanted a quiet moment to consider his next actions, as well as to allow Hiritus to fall into a deep sleep.

"Hmm, well I can't deny that moonlight is romantic." Fendros looked to the table and glanced up, "You are right, though. She isn't much one for ceremony. I will have to think on it further."

A silent moment passed before Fendros lifted his head to be straight again, looking to Jo'rashaad curiously. "If I may ask...you and S'ajira. Are you two ceremonially married or just mated? Can you share how you decided that?"

Apparently bored with the conversation, Rhazii flopped back to lean on Fendros' front. He took his tail out of his mouth, but then began fiddling with the end of it with his hands, inspecting it. He still remained awfully quiet.

Hiritus shook his head dismissively. "Like I said, you'll see what I mean. In time. You just have to spend more time away from those lycan hideaways, and in proper cities. You'll see for yourself how much of your view of the world has been warped." He explained confidently.

Once he was finally finished eating, Hiritus crawled his way over to the rocks Gallus had been preparing and laid himself down entirely. They did not have anything in the way of blakets to keep them warm as the air cooled, but they were at least out of the majority of the wind by being between the dunes. "Yeah, you can take first watch...and maybe second. Hey, take every watch if you want. I won't complain." He joked, closing his eyes. By the way he had been acting, it would not be long before he was fast asleep.

---

"We never really cared about the ceremony." Jo'rashaad answered. "We don't follow the Pelletine customs anyway, so we didn't see the need. It's not a massive and expensive event like in Alinor, or Cyrodiil. Just some friends, family, and a moonlit ceremony with some moon sugar, but it still wasn't anything we found necessary. The fact that you approached Jo'rashaad about this tells him that you at least want to go through with one, so it could not hurt for you to ask her. Perhaps do not expect any kind of...dramatic reaction, but she probably would not be upset by it."

Jo'rashaad rested his cheek on his hand as he took a moment to think. "Perhaps...try to think if there is anything she would enjoy about a ceremony, or if there is anything she would want to do? If there is anything of that nature, then she may be glad you asked?"

"Hmph," Gallus sounded as Hiritus settled in for the night.

Gallus went to find himself a spot relatively clear of rocks to sit down and do as he initially claimed; keeping watch. For the first time that day, he actually had the peace and quiet required to reflect. At first, he simply wanted to think about whether or not to kill Hiritus. However, holding his dagger in his hands - the one that had killed Dar-tzesa - his thoughts wandered elsewhere. He supposed he had a responsibility now. It would be quite the detour, but he would have to go to Gideon and find that Argonian child, Yizan-lei. He felt a little stupid to even consider it an obligation. Indeed, he had simply wanted Dar-tzesa to die with hope but the guilt Gallus felt was crushing him. He wouldn't want to be in her position, powerless and about to die, with a lie on his captor's lips regarding the safety of Tzirret and Peiter. He could see himself becoming something he hated by what he had done since he arrived. That had to stop.

As for Hiritus, well, he was as much a servant of Vile as Dar-tzesa was. Perhaps even more. Was Gallus an evil man for killing him? Perhaps. Perhaps not. He did not evoke the same sense of empathy as with Dar-tzesa. He could have a child of his own, but Gallus had purposely avoided that topic. Whether it was an unconscious decision or not, Gallus decided to focus on the pragmatic aspect of his decision. Hiritus knew where the Orcrest clanhome was. If he told his associates, that could mean putting the entire populations of the Orcrest and Senchal clans at risk. There was very little that could justify that. Was finding out more about the culling one of them? On one hand, the definite loss of the clans would be a major tragedy. On the other, this culling could potentially affect the lives of the entire lycan population on Tamriel.

Gallus rubbed the flat of his dagger between the thumb and the finger of his left hand while he held the handle. He mulled over the trade-off for more than long enough to allow Hiritus to fall into a deep sleep. He came to a decision and lifted his eyes up to the rocky cot that he had built. He took a deep breath as he stood up, crept up over the rocks, bent down, and pushed the dagger into Hiritus' throat.

There would be much to tell Meesei but his mission would not be over after tonight.

"Oh, I didn't intend for the ceremony to be a parade or anything," Fendros said, shaking his head and waving one hand, "No, I'm not sure either of us would really need something more than what you just described." Fendros looked down and ran his hand over Rhazii's head comfortingly. "Still, I think it would be nice to just...have something formal. Somewhere where we can put words to vows we have already wordlessly taken at this stage, really. So my ancestors can see."

Fendros seemed to only catch himself on his last point after a second, halting and peering up at Jo'rashaad. He tried to move on without pressing it. "Anyway, the other options I had in mind were to hold a wedding with the ways of the Tribunal temple in Cheydinhal, if that's possible, or do something closer to her upbringing with a ceremony under a priest of Mara." Fendros lowered his brow, "Now that I think about it, though, I'm not sure that either would really matter as much to her as just having a ceremony. There might even be a priest in the Bruma clan. I have never looked for one."

After taking another breath and sighing in thought, Fendros stopped for a moment and addressed Jo'rashaad more directly. "You've given me some good things to think about, Jo'rashaad. Thank you."

With thoughts of returning the favour of advice, Fendros broached the previous subject again. "You know..." Fendros hesitated, proceeding slowly, "It's not exactly the same situation...but Ahna and I have had an experience similar to what you and your pride had back down south."

Fendros paused for a moment, gauging Jo'rashaad's willingness to talk.

There was no time for Hiritus to give any sort of reaction. His eyes shot open, but if he was actually conscious at all, it was only for a few seconds.

Meanwhile, the killing had not gone unobserved. As Gallus' nose might have detected earlier, he was indeed being followed. With the sun setting over the horizon, a familiar silhouette rose up on one of the dunes, followed by five more shortly afterwards. At the distance they were following, it took a few minuted for them to make the walk over to Gallus. Meesei was of course at the head of the group, with Ahnasha and a few of the others from the clan walking behind her.

As she approached, Meesei did not exactly appear to be "pleased," as the execution was a rather distasteful affair, but she was certainly not disappointed. If Gallus was making the kill, then she assumed that their plan had worked. "Well...if nothing else, this is at least over. It is unlikely his body will be found out here, but we should bring it back with us regardless, for safety. Now...I suppose we should speak about what you learned right away, while it is fresh on your mind." She commented.

---

Jo'rashaad gave a nod to Fendros' thoughts on the ceremony. "If that is what you feel you want, then this one thinks it may be a good idea. Remember a ceremony like that exists for yourself, and your mate. Do not be concerned with anything that any other might want, unless it does not detract from your experience. Now, this one does not presume it will be easy to find something that both you and Ahnasha would want, but hers is the only other opinion that should matter to you."

At first, Jo'rashaad thought their conversation seemed to be over, but after a brief paused, Fendros moved on to another, slightly less comfortable subject. He shifted in his seat, and glanced down to the table. "That is...terrible. No person should experience anything like that. But if that's the case...this one does not want to make you relive any of that in your mind."

Gallus pressed his hand over Hiritus' throat to make sure he couldn't scream, but it didn't appear as though he had the opportunity. Hot blood seeped between Gallus' fingers as the life left Hiritus' eyes. He wasn't paying attention when Meesei arrived, as evidenced by his head shooting up from his execution quickly when they were a short distance away.

By the time Meesei spoke, Gallus was wiping the blood from his dagger and hands. He looked incredibly tired, even with the dim light shading his face. "Right." He began without making eye contact with Meesei, "I coaxed out about as much as I thought he knew. Their cells keep information withheld where it isn't needed, so he didn't know as much as I would have liked, but there were some useful points."

Standing up straight and lifting his head to look at Meesei, he sheathed his dagger and continued. "The infiltrators were based out of a safehouse to the north of Orcrest, a farmhouse on the outskirts. Their original plan was much the same as we suspected; gather up all of the military might, march out forcefully for long enough to exhaust them, ambush them, and then move on to the stronghold to wipe out the rest. Dar-tzesa was..." Gallus paused to sigh quietly, "...Not a devotee of Vile, she was just a desperate woman they made a deal with to pose as you."

Gallus did not dwell on it for too long. He moved on to wider matters. "The stronghold at Corinthe is positioned in such a way as to be hidden from the Dominion, so we at least shouldn't have to worry about antagonising them by attacking it. It is well stocked and garrisoned, from what I interpreted, but it was apparently never meant to be a secret from us for too long. It has been fortified specifically to repel lycans. The general himself is named Do'rhajul. He is indeed a Cathey-raht werewolf...however, they apparently have access to lycanthropy cures. I don't know the nature of them, but Hiritus here saw one take place with his own eyes, if he is to be believed." Gallus looked at the blood pooling through the stones, "He seemed very insistent that I pursue a cure myself."

Gallus looked up again, putting a fist to his hip, "More concerning are the other things he mentioned. Vile has apparently been assigning kidnappings of specific people from all over Tamriel. He didn't know what they were for, or anything else about it, really, except that his targets were a shipping clerk and a pair of alchemists. At first I thought of Sabine's sister, but does she even live in Elsweyr? She's an alchemist, right?"

Regardless of Meesei's answer, Gallus continued, "There is also talk of a 'culling'. Vile's end game is to harvest all the lycan souls on Tamriel. Eradicating them all. He was not privy to the details of the grand plan they are to enact, though the rumours he had heard made it sound robust and real." Gallus glanced off to one side, "Vile's numbers are growing, too. As a consequence of all the new turnings these past few years, there are more folks looking for revenge or a cure. They play right into his hands. That means that there are plenty of possible infiltrators in other clans." Gallus tilted his head and lifted his voice slightly, "Fortunately, Hiritus was not aware of any more infiltrators in the Orcrest clan beyond his companions."

If Meesei had any questions, Gallus would hear them first, but he would not head back just yet. There were other matters to address.

Fendros closed his eyes and shook his head lightly. "No, there's no need for revisiting it. And I won't make you recount what happened either," Fendros said. His eyes opened and strayed to the top of Rhazii's head. He ran his fingers over the edges of Rhazii's scars. However faded they were by now, they were still a visible reminder.

"I just wanted to let you know that it has been years since then," Fendros said in a low, but not particularly sad voice. He swallowed before continuing. "It...may seem like torture to have such memories but I feel as though it is important to say that we learned to cope. We...needed assistance at times, from our friends and from people who knew how to help. It was tempting to allow our emotions to push away from each other because of the pain, but we didn't. We resisted that. To do that would have made it too hard to survive."

Fendros took a slow breath and leaned up from his chair, holding onto Rhazii so he wouldn't fall forward. Fendros locked Jo'rashaad's eyes with a serious expression. "Just remember to be patient with you and your packmates, especially Ciinriel and S'ajira. The memories do not go away, and they can change you, but you all still love one another. Remember that. You will need one another more than ever, now and in the future."

For Meesei, even if the information was not as extensive as Gallus had hoped, it was still much for her to process. She instructed a few of the others to start wrapping up the body for transport back to the stronghold, then took a moment to think. Much of what Gallus explained supported what Meesei's informants across Tamriel had been suggesting for the past few years, while other details were new, and even confusing.

"There are many alchemists in Tamriel." Meesei commented. "But a shipping clerk? That is a strange combination, I would say. Perhaps he had some other talent of which Hiritus was not aware? Regardless, searching for alchemists does make sense with respect to other developments we have seen. It is possible they required the expertise of these alchemists to help reproduce the suppression gas. Sabine has been regularly exchanging letters with her sister, with no hint of any trouble, but there are certainly other alchemical experts who could create such a mixture, especially if they had samples of the gas, or any base knowledge of its ingredients. It is possible that some of that knowledge survived our attack in Vos, perhaps in the form of whoever supplied the ingredients for the witches? But this 'culling', it is a surprise to me, honestly. It seems so...simple. Vile just wants to kill all lycans and harvest our souls? Clavicus Vile is known to be more subtle and cunning in his dealings; this culling seems almost like something that would be perpetuated by Molag Bal, or Mehrunes Dagon. This war in general has never matched his behavior throughout history. Perhaps I am simply applying scholarly theories where I should not, but it seems like there would have to be something more to his plan. Something even his own followers would not know?"

Meesei breathed a sigh, turning and looking down on the corpse that was halfway to being wrapped in a large cloth. "Well, regardless, whether it is the final goal, or just a step along the way, we know that Vile's followers fully intend to kill us all. This war will be fought for our very existence."

---

Jo'rashaad was quite obviously uncomfortable. He did not seem overtly angry that the conversation had shifted to such a topic, but he did not actually respond directly at first. He continued to avoid eye contact for a few seconds before taking in a nervous breath. "Yes, um...thank you. This one thinks we will be alright; our bodies were not harmed permanently. We are still a family, and we are all still together. It will just take time."

While he was making an effort not to seem ungrateful for the advice, Jo'rashaad certainly wanted to shift the conversation in any other direction. Taking a few brief glances around the room, his gaze finally settled on Rhazii. "So...is there anything this one should know about little Rhazii? Anything special, or different we should do?"

"Mm," Gallus nodded in agreement. "It sounds a simple objective but that does not rule out a subtle plan. We should be wary of any ploy to cluster many lycans closely together, or for any hint of a large scale...movement of Vile's forces." Gallus let out a breath through almost closed lips, "...however useful that course of action is."

Once Meesei's entourage had removed Hiritus' body, Gallus stepped around and began pushing over the cot he had made from the rocks. He spoke over the dull clacking and grinding. "In the shorter term, I am concerned about the strength of this stronghold. I am looking forward to hearing from our scouts." Gallus glanced up at Meesei with a little more reluctance. "However, without anything on the culling, I feel like we're sitting like ducks, ready to be shot. I would like to suggest something..."

Gallus walked over to his supplies and pulled out the sack that contained Dar-tzesa's head. The last patches blood that had seeped through the cloth had turned a sickly brown. "We still have this and I still have names and information. I would hear your opinion first, but I suggest infiltrating. I can go on with this ruse and see if I can find out anything else. Even a hint would be better than nothing."

Fendros curled his lips and formed a tight, understanding smile. Though Jo'rashaad may not have been comfortable talking about the subject, Fendros had a feeling that his advice may prove useful if things got worse. It remained to be seen whether that would happen.

As for the question to Rhazii, Fendros breathed in to answer for him, but Rhazii was receptive to the attention. He sat himself up straighter with hopeful eyes to Jo'rashaad. "Can I have sweetrolls for breakfast?"

Fendros let out his breath in a slightly anxious laugh. "No, little one, I don't think you'll be getting away with that."

Rhazii didn't seem discouraged yet. "What about lunch?"

This wasn't the first time Fendros had been in this argument. "No, and not dinner either-"

"What about in between?" Rhazii interrupted. That part was a new addition to the argument.

Fendros smiled widely and straightened as well. "Only for a treat, little one."

Rhazii seemed flicked his head around to glance at Fendros, but perked his ears more predominantly in Jo'rashaad's direction, waiting for an answer.

"Well, there isn't much beyond a regular child's needs to consider," Fendros said to Jo'rashaad. "Make sure he goes to bed at the same time, keep his diet varied, you would know all this." Fendros' smile faded as he took his next breath. "One thing to keep in mind is that Rhazii isn't too comfortable around fires, especially large ones."

Rhazii's ears drooped a little upon hearing the word 'fires,' but he still waited for his answer.

Meesei approached Gallus' suggestion with strong skepticism. She did not know what was inspiring him to want to take such a risk, but she felt that he might not realize how much of a risk it would be. Meesei crossed her arms, and gave him a rather serious look. "I do not believe that to be wise, Gallus. Perhaps with Hiritus vouching for you, it might have been possible, but it would have been far too much of a risk to let him live. Bear in mind, it is almost certain that Vile's agents in Orcrest have never actually seen me before. They will not be able to recognize how close that head's features are to mine. All they will see is that it matches my description, but it is not unlikely that they will question whether or not the head is genuine. After all, they were enacting a similar plan against our stronghold. Not to mention, the false Ring of Hircine will not be able to stand up under serious scrutiny. Even though Hiritus did not know its function, that does not mean no others will. Infiltrating the enemy ranks is not something we can simply do on a whim. It may be an option for us to explore, but that would require considerable planning on our part." Meesei warned.

---

"This one will remember that." Jo'rashaad answered with a nod. He had not been told the details of what happened to Rhazii, but the scars visible on his face left little doubt as to their cause. As much as possible, he would keep Rhazii as far as was reasonable from any fires around the stronghold. He guessed that Rhazii could handle seeing a fire, since they were very commonly used around him, but he supposed that the cub would not want to get close.

As for Rhazii's persistent questioning about treats, Jo'rashaad gave the cub another grin. "Jo'rashaad will feed you like any other Khajiit cub, little one. And before you ask, no, we do not eat sweetrolls for our meals. That said, proper Khajiit cuisine is known for its sweetness compared to food from other places. Or at least, that is what this one has been told. Jo'rashaad usually only eats Khajiit food, or meat from his hunts, so he has nothing to compare it to. Have you been able to eat much Khajiit food since you got to Elsweyr, Rhazii, or has it mostly just been meat?"

Without even a hint of disappointment, Gallus replaced the severed head into the bag of supplies again. "As you wish," he added.

With the rest of the group ready to move out, Gallus regarded Meesei with a concerned look, and then began moving with his eyes to the rocky ground. "Are there any other options for finding out more about this, though? I do not like the idea of Vile having a gambit that we cannot anticipate."

"Um..." Rhazii pursed his lips tightly as he thought back and hummed. "Only meat and the food on the ship. Mama does not like me eating too much moon sugar."

Fendros elaborated, "I think any Khajiit cuisine that Rhazii has eaten were treats anyway. There hasn't been much opportunity with the rations from Senchal to here." Fendros leaned around to catch Rhazii's eye. "You remember that pudding that Ophelia made for you back at the Bruma festival, little one? I believe that was a Khajiit meal."

Rhazii's eyes widened as they turned to Fendros. "The cup of sweet milk that wobbled? With the berries?" he asked excitedly.

Fendros nodded.

At this, Rhazii's head shot to Jo'rashaad with yet more anticipation than before. He raised his voice, "All the food is like that!?"

Once the body was wrapped, two of the others carried it as the group started their long walk back to the stronghold. Gallus and Hiritus had been walking for the majority of the day, so they had a fair amount of ground to cover to get back. Granted, Hiritus had slowed down their pace, but it would still be well into the night before they could get back. Meesei was wearing one of the cloaks that the Orcrest clan seemed to favor, which would help as the temperature dropped.

"I am certain there is a way we can learn more, but we need to approach it cautiously. If Hiritus was trusted enough to lead this mission, then he was likely a ranking member of his organization in Orcrest. If he did not know any details about the culling, then it would be a fair assumption to make that specific knowledge of the culling is restricted to the upper levels of Vile's forces. At the very least, we would have to infiltrate their stronghold outside Corinthe. Unfortunately, that may not be possible, as we seem to be in a prime position to launch our attack against them. If the clan was being led to an ambush as we has suspected, then their forces would be split. And, if the location of this stronghold is still a secret to their forces as a whole, then we can mobilize our forces safely. Depending on the scouts' report, we may be in a position to essentially win the war in Elsweyr. Or at the very least, deliver a crushing blow to their forces here. Perhaps, if we are able, we can capture this General, Do'rhajul." Meesei proposed, but as she said the name, she narrowed her eyes slightly and looked straight ahead.

"That name, Do'rhajul. It sounds...familiar almost. I just cannot quite place from where." She commented.

---

Jo'rashaad nodded. "Mostly. It is a defining feature of our cuisine, and what sets it apart from others in Tamriel. We have a lot of ingredients in Elsweyr that can be used for sweetening, and talented chefs can use them in creative ways. There is a definite difference between our meals and our treats, though, so don't expect everything to be like a sweetroll. This one thinks you'll like it, though. Jo'rashaad will see if he can make some of the things his mother made for him when he was young."

"For most of the time since we have all been traveling together, we have been moving from place to place, worrying about our next step. Perhaps, now that Rhazii will be in a single, stable, and safe place for a few weeks, this one could try to teach him more about the Khajiit. If that is alright with you?" Jo'rashaad asked.

Ideas were already whirring in Gallus' mind on how exactly they would capture the general of Vile's forces, let alone a Cathay-raht lycan. He would much prefer trying to take a subordinate. He had a feeling that getting information out of Do'rhajul would be especially difficult, if not impossible in whatever time frame they had. Of course, Gallus had never met him as far as he was aware.

After cupping his hands around his mouth and breathing on them to warm them, Gallus became curious with Meesei's memory. "Have you heard the name before?" Gallus asked, "Was it more recent or from the past? Perhaps someone in your pack might remember?" Gallus turned his head to look about to the rest of Meesei's entourage. He thought he recognised the other familiar scent in the dark. "Hey, Ahnasha. Does the name mean anything to you?"

Fendros looked away for only a moment to think. He frowned and shrugged. "I see no reason why not to," Fendros said, "Just...do remember that Rhazii is young. He..." Fendros stopped himself, smiled, and then released the rest of his breath through his nose, "You know, I shouldn't worry." He tilted his head forward and looked to Jo'rashaad. "As long as he isn't chided for referring to himself directly when he speaks, I think it is a good idea."

With a sudden and short breath in, Fendros remembered one last thing. "Ah, also, Rhazii and Newt are good friends, but they can sometimes be rough with one another. Do not be afraid to break up any play-fighting if they start to cause harm."

Ahnasha looked ahead, uncertain in her expression and tapping the side of her head. "I...could swear I have. Probably from the same place Meesei did, but it must have been a while. Do'rhajul...a warrior, Cathay-raht...I'm not sure. I'll probably remember it immediately if I just get a reminder. We should speak to the rest of the pack, see if anyone else has heard of him, or if I am just making myself think I've heard the name."

"Agreed." Meesei answered with a nod. "We can gather the pack tomorrow morning; I would wager that it is going to be quite late before we can get back to the stronghold. I do not think I would fault any of you if you end up sleeping late. With luck, the scouts will return from their mission soon, and we can plan our attack."

Jo'rashaad chuckled. "Oh yes, this one knows well how much Cathay cubs need to be watched. Even a mild mannered kitten can cause a lot of accidental destruction if he is twice the size of all his friends. Though, Jo'rashaad does not think there is a such thing as a non-destructive cub. There is a reason that our people's god of destruction is named Merrunz. Kitten."

Turning his head briefly to the chamber's exit, Jo'rashaad looked to Fendros apologetically. "This one...should really get to his mate soon. She is expecting him. But, we should certainly get everyone together sometime before the warband leaves for the attack. You, Ahnasha, Newt and his parents, this one's mate and daughter. It would help to ease everyone's mind, Jo'rashaad thinks."

"Yes. If both Ahnasha and you finds it familiar, likely someone else from your pack knows more." Gallus didn't want to sound like he relished sleeping in, so said nothing about Meesei's forgiveness in advance. All the same, he was grateful for the mercy. He felt as though he needed to sleep for three days straight and he wasn't even back at the clanhome yet. Gallus held his fingers under his armpits against the cold as they walked on.

A few tens of paces passed before Gallus spoke up again. "One more thing, Meesei. I don't think I'm cut out for interrogations."

With a friendly smile, Fendros gestured and nodded to Jo'rashaad. "Not a problem. Yes, I think gathering would be a great idea. I'll let Ahna know when she gets back and catch up with you tomorrow."

With that, Fendros allowed Jo'rashaad to leave. Rhazii chimed in as he got up, "Goodbye!"

Fendros leaned around Rhazii to see his face. "Sounds like you're in for a fun time while mama and dada are away, aren't you?"

Rhazii looked to Fendros, grinned widely, and nodded with an exaggerated motion. Fendros noted the stark contrast to the day before.

As expected, it took the rest of the evening, and the majority of the night, for Meesei and the others to reach the stronghold. Most of the group headed straight for their beds after finding a place for the body, while Meesei and Gallus took only a few moments to take a written record of what they had learned before retiring themselves.

The next day, even Meesei was up later than usual, but it seemed that coincidence was working in their favor, as while they had been away following Hiritus the previous night, the scouts had returned. Fortunately, there had been no casualties, and according to the initial report Meesei had received, the scouting party had gone undetected by Vile's forces. There had evidently been some difficulties, but they planned to give that report in detail during a meeting later that evening. In the meantime, Meesei had granted them the day to rest and recuperate after their journey.

It was not long after the midday meal that Peiter decided to seek out Sabine. He had spent much of the morning training with some of the members of the Orcrest clan, so he had not yet spoken to Sabine that day after they left their room. Since they had first discussed it, he had been thinking on what to do regarding Tzirret. In the brief times they had spoken to him since their argument, he still seemed just as resolute on joining the fighting. For his sake, Peiter believed, they would have to find some way to keep him out of the attack. Luckily, he was able to find her fairly quickly, as she had returned to the room they shared.

Stepping inside, Peiter closed the door carefully behind him and spoke up somewhat quietly. "Ah, good, I was worried it would take a while to find you. I think it's time for us to talk, about Tzirret that is. I think Gallus is free right now...if you still want to try to persuade him."

Peiter found Sabine seated on their bedroll, cross-legged and appearing so still that she could have been mistaken for a statue. She had her hands raised to either side of an empty glass vial that was slowly rotating and stopping periodically. There was a perceivable magical charge in the air.

Sabine didn't react to Peiter immediately. The vial stopped once more as he spoke and she held her mouth open as if to breath only as carefully as she could. When Peiter mentioned Tzirret, Sabine's mouth slowly closed and the grabbed the vial out of the air. The charge in the air faded along with her visible tension. "Mhm," Sabine turned her head to Peiter, "Let us go now."

Within the next minute, Peiter and Sabine were headed to Gallus' room, hand in hand. The seriousness of the situation meant that even that much affection didn't bring a smile to their faces. "Have you thought any further about what you want to say?"

Meanwhile, in Gallus' room, the occupant of the bed was still sleeping after the length and strain of the previous day. The sounds outside of his room encouraged him to consciousness, but the tension in his neck and shoulders kept him relatively still. He had only risen once to briefly relieve himself but he wanted to take all the time he could between now and hearing the scouting party's report.

Peiter gave a nod. "I've thought on how I want to word some of my points, yes. I just want to make sure to come off as concerned about Tzirret, instead of critical about Gallus' decisions. I want to tell him that Tzirret has definitely improved, but he still isn't ready for this. If we're attacking their main fortress in Elsweyr, then everyone in the attack will need to be well-trained. He's still too young, and doesn't have much in the way of technique. I'll recommend letting him into battles in a few years, once he's had enough training. If Gallus is trying to use this as a way to teach Tzirret a lesson, or help build his confidence, I'll try to convince him that this attack is too dangerous to be used as a lesson. He'll never learn any kind of less on if he is dead. If none of that works, then I might try convincing him that Tzirret is too likely to panic and break ranks. That is something that can get not just Tzirret killed, but others around him as well. Gallus might not be willing to risk the lives of multiple people just for Tzirret's emotional well-being."

After a few minutes of walking, somewhat slowly, the pair reached the door to Gallus' room. For a few moments, Pieter stood silently, and nervously. Depending on what happened during the attack, he was arguing potentially for the life of his friend, so he could not make too many mistakes. After a few, deep breaths, he released Sabine's hand and knocked on the door. "Um...Gallus, it's me, Peiter. Are you...awake?" He asked.

Sabine blinked a couple of times and looked ahead as they walked. "I think it might be more than just that," she murmured. "But I will wait until Gallus responds."

The knock on Gallus' door caused the man to scrunch his eyes and breathe in deeply through his nose. He knew that he couldn't stay dozing forever. Even then, by the sounds of it, whatever Peiter wanted to talk about sounded serious.

With his eyes still closed, Gallus sat up, twisted to sit over the side of his bed, and began to rub his eyes with the back of his hand. He wouldn't open up the conversation to Peiter by lying about his state of awareness, so he avoided answering his question. "Come in, Peiter," he requested with all the grumbling friendliness he could muster.

When the door slowly opened, Gallus beheld the pair at the door with a tilted head and a frown, beckoning them inside. He had dark rings under his eyes and bedraggled hair. "Good morning - ah, good morning to you too, Sabine." After running his hands down his face one more time and taking another breath, Gallus finally managed a smile. "What can I do for you two?"

As Peiter stepped into the room, he looked down nervously and rubbed the back of his neck. "Oh, um, sorry. I didn't expect to be waking you up like this at this time of day. Anyway, there was something we wanted to talk to you about, relating to the upcoming attack. It's Tzirret; I'm...worried about him. He's young, and doesn't have a whole lot of training. He has improved since we left Bruma, especially with his confidence, but I think he might be getting overconfident about this attack. He wants to join the fight to help protect his friends, which is definitely noble, and I like that he is the kind of person that is willing to take that risk, but I don't think he should be in the battle. With his level of training, he could still easily make mistakes, and if something goes wrong...he might not get a chance to improve ever again."

Now that he was actually speaking to him, Peiter was having a more difficult time than he imagined voicing his concerns to Gallus in the way that he had planned. He normally was not nervous around Gallus, even if he was his alpha, but this matter had been weighing heavily enough on his mind that he was having difficulty concentrating. Thoughts continued to find their way into his mind on what might happen if he could not convince Gallus, or anyone else, to prevent Tzirret from joining the fight.
