Rukeewei did not exactly settle, but again, he did not run. He gripped Ariel's hand tightly, looking over Sabine in particular with a mix of fear and suspicion. "How do you know? They say the moons make them go crazy; how do you know its safe?"

"We are always very aware of the moons. Even if you cannot trust my word, the moons will not be full for almost another month, regardless. You are not in any danger from us right now. You will never be in any danger from us." Meesei said reassuringly.

Rukeewei remained steady, though his tone was at least slightly calmer. "Just...what do you want with Ariel? What kind of help do you want from her?"

Meesei was calm and diplomatic, and made sure to stay calm in her voice. She could see there was a chance of getting through to him, so she did not want to make any mistakes. "Alchemical help, naturally. There is a poison that is a great danger to us, which is being used by our enemies. Ariel is one of the few people who stands a very good chance of being able to develop an antidote. We would like her help. We can offer considerable financial help in return, and I can even offer a large reward for a completed antidote."

"What kind of reward to you mean?" Rukeewei asked hesitantly.

Meesei responded in an almost matter-of-fact tone. "Ten thousand septims."

The room went silent. Ariel was frozen holding Rukeewei's hand. She was facing Meesei with a blank expression. "You didn't just say 'ten thousand,' did you?" Ariel asked through her shock. "You didn't say what the reward would be before."

Sabine put her hands together on her lap and nodded with a small smile. "We need the antidote."

Ariel's bulging eyes wandered in front of herself. Her relatively level tone was an attempt to not be so bewildered. "You said you had organised. I never could have...ten thousand..." Ariel lifted her arm to Meesei and gave her a worried look. "That's too much, surely. You know you don't need to. I'm helping as a friend and a sister!"

At this point, Ariel was so distracted that she had almost forgotten about explaining the rest of the situation to Rukeewei.

"That is the amount I would offer anyone who could bring me a permanent solution to this weapon." Meesei responded. While it was true that she expected Ariel would have the best chance of creating a cure, she would reward anyone else who could complete that task as well. "I will admit, forfeiting that amount would have a definite impact on us, even if I source the coin from multiple clans, but the cost of not curing this poison is far, far greater than every single coin in every clan's coffers combined. Anything I can do to motivate a quick and effective antidote for the poison, I will do."

Suddenly, fear was not the only thing on Rukeewei's mind. The talk of the reward had rendered him speechless for a short time, and while he was still unmistakably afraid, he was now willing to talk about more than just his fear. "So you will pay us ten thousand septims, and all my wife has to do is make a potion?"

"I imagine it will be a more complicated task than that, but essentially, yes. However, to be able to work on it effectively, she will need to be able to join us in Skyrim for at least a year's time, unless she devises an antidote sooner. Just to compensate her for the work, I can offer to pay all of the debts both you and Ariel have in the city, and help make sure your businesses remain stable in that time." Meesei explained.

Rukeewei stared ahead blankly, his expression doing little to hide the conflict within him. "That is...a lot of coin. But, what will all of this entail?" He began, turning to Ariel and grabbing her hand in both of his. "I don't want to lose you for a whole year. Even more with travel. To imagine you across the world, surrounded by lycans...I would worry myself to death."

By Ariel's expression, she was still unhappy about the prospect of being rewarded so heavily for something she would try even without the financial incentive. Still, Rukeewei's concerns came to the forefront again. Ariel pat Rukeewei's hand and looked at his chest nervously.

"Well, there comes the second thing. You see...I wanted to explore the possibility of you coming with me." Ariel let out a single, anxious laugh and gave Meesei a glance. "I admit, visiting a...an entire clan of lycans is something I am worried about at well, but I trust Meesei if she thinks it is safe."

Ariel looked up at Rukeewei's eyes and continued. "There would be many things to sort out, but with what Meesei can provide as a down payment, you might hire an extra pair of hands or two to help your brother while you're away from the inn."

Rukeewei held his hands up and almost recoiled back in surprise from Ariel's suggestion. "Wait, wait, you want me to come along with you? All the way to Skyrim? All of this just seems so bizarre, so...insane. I mean, you're saying that you're friends with werewolves, and...crocodiles, and they want to take you away to a frozen, far-away land so you can earn a fortune making some kind of antidote. This all has to be a joke, right? A prank that you are all conspiring to play on me?"

Meesei shook her head. "I wish it were. If so, we would not have to face this danger that is always looming over us. The poison that I want Ariel to help cure, it rips our souls from our very bodies and sends them directly to the Daedra Clavicus Vile. It is a fate worse than death itself, and it is only because of the severity of the situation that I would even think of asking this of you and your family."

Ariel nodded. "If I did not know Sabine's family for as long as I have, I would think the same thing, Rukeewei." She pursed her lips and glanced at the floor. "This is not...normal. I won't pretend that it is. It is something that is generally kept out of public news." Ariel raised her palm and tilted it in a calming gesture with her speech. "It's strange, I know, it is a lot to take in. Look, perhaps instead of throwing everything at you, you can ask questions, yes? Ask anything you like, we won't keep anything from you, Rukee dear, I promise."

With a still worried brow, Ariel forced a smile to try and encourage Rukeewei. She wished that this was easier but there wasn't likely any way around the shock they put him into.

Rukeewei had thusfar been in too much shock from everything he had been told to consider what he might want to ask them. He had only barely come to terms with the fact that he was still in the room with multiple lycans and not making his way out of the door. Even though his fear was steadily diminishing, the notion that he might willingly travel to en entire clan of lycans still seemed insane to him. Regardless, after Ariel suggested that he ask some questions of his own, he paused to collect himself and simply asked the first question that came to his mind.

"Okay, okay, so...just how did this all happen? All of this doesn't make sense to me. Why are you friends with lycans? Why is Sabine a lycan; why did you come to Black Marsh with them to begin with? If you didn't tell me about this, then is everything you told me about your past true?" Rukeewei asked.

Ariel breathed in to speak after Rukeewei's first question and she held her breath as he added more and more. His last question caused her to close her mouth and let out her breath to try again.

"Yes, what I did tell you was true, everything I did say." Ariel slowly explained through her guilt. "I am a witch, I was in a coven in Vos, in Morrowind. I grew up there with my sister after we were taken in as orphans. I did want to move away and I was interested in Thorn after Meesei suggested it. It's just..." Ariel paused to rub her ear. "I...omitted a few things. It was Sabine's secret, really. It wasn't mine to reveal. I'll tell you how this really started..."

Ariel sighed and looked down, thinking. Finding out where to begin was hard, much more finding out how much detail she wanted to go into. She traded a glance with Sabine, who was remaining patient and quiet opposite the couple.

Ariel finally started with a low voice, occasionally looking at Rukeewei but mainly avoiding his gaze. "When Sabine was a girl, we had a group of cultists come to the coven. It was not uncommon, as witches often knew how to contact daedra on their summoning days. These cultists wished to contact Hircine, so we gathered the materials for the ritual. After trying for a long time, we knew that the ritual had failed and Hircine would not be speaking to the cultists. They were angered, thinking they had been tricked into giving us useless payment. They ended up transforming into werewolves in front of us and attacking. A few people were killed, but they were driven off. But...not before Sabine was struck by one."

Closing her eyes and bringing her forehead to her hand, Ariel hinted a twinge of emotion through her tone. "She was horribly wounded. We healed her, but she had been infected with lycanthropy. We did not remove it in time before it set in. We...contained her at first. The others wanted her out. I tried to convince them to help me find a cure, they told me that I would do it on my own and I set to work. I tried everything I knew of, devised knew things, became so involved that...I tried methods I felt deep regret for. Nothing worked."

Ariel lifted her head, taking a respite from her darker memories by explaining the facts. She made gestures with her hands to motion her words. "One of the things I discovered was a method for suppressing the beast spirit of a lycan. To force them to transform back into their original forms or keep them in their original forms. It was an inhaled substance. Unfortunately, it was no cure, in fact, it made the condition worse. Each time a lycan beast spirit was suppressed in such a way, it came back enraged and stronger later on. It dominated the mind of the host. There was no chance of controlling it under such conditions."

Sabine was looking off to one side at this point with a hand wrapped tightly around her other arm. Even coming to terms with such memories in the past did not make their discomforts completely disappear.

"Anyway," Ariel continued, lowering her hands and head again. "After a while, I knew that Sabine's best chance would be to get onto mainland Tamriel and find a place to live in the forest. I...had nowhere else to bring her. Taking her to anywhere civilised would risk the lives of those she was near. Staying with me in the wilds might have had me killed; her beast spirit saw me as...well, we were not on good terms. And as for a cure..." Ariel's next breath was shaky. "I had no cure. I was just...trying things that were hurting Sabine. I couldn't stand to keep going. She was going to die in a cage otherwise. Her beast spirit knew how to hunt for food on instinct, so I knew that she at least had a good chance at surviving. A better chance than anything else. It was the hardest thing I have ever done to leave her there."

Ariel had to pause with her eyes tightly closed, but Sabine's gentle voice chimed in. "Then I found Meesei."

That caused Ariel to look up and give a sad, tight-lipped smile. "That you did." She paused to allow Sabine to continue, though she didn't. Eventually, Ariel picked up again. "I did not see Sabine again for several years after that. The coven was not fond of my actions and banished me. With nowhere else to go, I set up a shop in Vos. Then, one day, Janius turned up in my shop and I...through means of my own, found out he was a lycan and tracked him to his pack. It was there that I found two things. I found my sister again, amongst a new family, and I found that their purpose for being near Vos was that cultists of Clavicus Vile who had been brewing something of a war against Hircine had a leader there. A leader who had procured my suppression gas from my old coven. You see, Meesei was no ordinary lycan alpha. She is something of a leader herself. The champion of Hircine. She and her pack are on such missions often, hence why they often travel."

Ariel nodded to Meesei. "I told Meesei what I knew and I took steps with the pack to go back to my coven, destroy my notes and any suppression gas they had, and then...I couldn't stay in Vos any longer. I knew the coven would come after me, or lycan hunters, or even more cultists of Clavicus Vile. With my words and Sabine speaking more about what happened, Meesei resolved to head south to have Sabine speak to the Hist to help with the horrible things that she...experienced. At my hand and all the matters surrounding. In return for my help with the gas and essentially giving up my life in Vos, Meesei repaid me by guiding me to Thorn and helping me to set up a new life here. The rest is nothing you don't know. Well, the Hist ritual worked, thank the light. There is that. Oh, and the war between Hircine and Vile has been raging for some time now, away from the public eye." Ariel had her hands clasped tightly on her lap. "I think that is all. I am not proud of it, but that is the truth about Sabine and me."

Sabine tried to reassure Ariel by bringing a hand to her upper arm and smiling.

While he was not quite as confused as when their lycanthropy had first been revealed to him, Rukeewei still had quite a bit to take in with Ariel's explanation. Her story matched up closely enough with everything Ariel had said so far to him about her past that he could see she had not been directly lying, but she had obviously withheld quite a bit from him. Regardless, he now had answers, even if it was going to take him a while to process it all.

"So you went through...all of that before coming here. And that's why you trust all of these lycans?" He said before turning his attention more directly to Meesei. "But are you really sure you need Ariel for this? I know she is a skilled alchemist, but...there are a lot of alchemists in the world. Do you want her help because she has worked with lycanthropy before?"

Meesei lightly shook her head. "It is more than that. We destroyed Ariel's notes on the original suppression gas, but that could only delay them for so long. After a few years, they were able to create a new formula for the gas. Then, they modified it into the weapon we are facing today. We need Ariel because that weapon is still based upon her original creation, and she has the best chance of finding a solution."

Rukeewei looked away, still largely uncertain on everything that was being so quickly presented to him. After a few moments, he looked back to Ariel. "So...what do you want to happen?"

Ariel returned Rukeewei's look. Her answer was more confident than any previously given. "I want to help. Not for the money, but for Sabine and her family. They're in danger." Some uncertainty returned. "It will be hard to leave the shop and the inn, but I would like for you to come with me, Rukeewei."

Ariel looked away. "I'm sorry that I kept these secrets from you."

Rukeewei brought his hands up and slowly ran them down his face. "I...I don't know. This is a lot to ask. Even if it's not forever, a year is a long time. How would I explain this to my brother, or the rest of my family? They aren't going to just accept us going all the way across Tamriel to live with a whole clan of...lycanthropes. I'm still not comfortable with that, really."

"I know lying is not particularly pleasant, but it is a necessity for us." Meesei pointed out. "I would not recommend mentioning what we are to anyone. You could say that we are bringing you traveling as a...vacation, or something of that nature. Out of gratitude for how you helped us before."

Rukeewei was silent for a while, not really acknowledging anything Meesei had said. Eventually, he opened his eyes as he spoke. "It's not going to matter what I say, will it? It's your sister; I'm not going to be able to stop you. No matter the danger, no matter...anything else, you're going. Aren't you? I..." Turning towards her, Rukeewei pulled Ariel into a hug. "I don't want you to be there without me."

Ariel didn't pretend that it would be easy. She witnessed the very same thoughts coming from Rukeewei as she was having when she was told. She had it in her mind that a believable story would be a special commission for an alchemical medicine that would require them to travel. However, those sorts of details could come later.

The current detail was Rukeewei's acceptance. Ariel was pained at the struggle he had deciding, but felt her stress begin to melt away in his arms. She returned his hug and breathed out into his shoulder with her nose. "I don't want to go without you," she said in return.

They remained embracing for a few moments longer before Ariel slowly pulled halfway out of the hug. "There are a lot of other things, many particulars to work out. I'm unsure how I could feel any guiltier about throwing this upon you like this." Ariel looked down again. "Is there anything else you want to know?"

While Rukeewei was embracing Ariel, he spoke in a nervous, somewhat stuttering voice. "I...I guess I will have to. Be there, I mean. There's just...so much to do, and who could we possibly hire, even with enough coin? Who can we trust? I mean, I don't know any alchemists that are nearly as good as you, and my brother doesn't get along too well with strangers. This is all just so much so fast."

Between his words and his overall expression, it was quite clear that Rukeewei did not want to leave. He was still afraid of the prospect of being around lycans, and he was not going to be happy leaving his business. It was only become of his love of Ariel that he was agreeing, Although, he did start to look at Ariel with some uncertainty as well after a few moments.

"If they had not come along, when were you going to tell me all of this?" Rukeewei asked.

Ariel continued with her look of regret. "Like I said, it wasn't my secret to reveal. It was Sabine's. And her pack's." Ariel traded a look with Sabine, who gave a small nod.

"I trust you, dear, I do," Ariel looked up to Rukeewei again. "But I couldn't have told you in good conscience without betraying the trust Sabine put in me." Ariel's words began speeding up again. "In honesty, I don't know if I ever could have told you without her permission. Perhaps if lycans did not have such a reputation? I was uncertain enough about what your reaction would be. I suppose after all this I was just..." Ariel paused, took a breath, and slowed down. "I was afraid of how it might change your opinion of my friends and me."

"It's just...I never expected this. I thought you left all that crazy stuff in your life behind when you came here. I knew you didn't have a normal past, but I didn't think that would be coming back here to us. I thought we would just live in peace." Rukeewei said, speaking as much to himself as he was to Ariel

Rukeewei breathed out slowly and deeply. "I think I need some time. Just some time to myself to think, to figure things out. This is all just so confusing." Quickly letting go of Ariel, Rukeewei stood up to his feet and took a few unsure steps towards the door. "I just need some time."

Rukeewei's words did not help with Ariel's anxiety. She was struck with some silent shock when he got up to leave all of a sudden. Thankfully, she found enough courage to reach up and speak. "Wait, Rukee," Ariel said. "This will be the only time I let my past drag us away. I promise." She lowered her hand, not keeping him from leaving if he needed to. "I love you."

Rukeewei stopped only briefly to turn back towards Ariel. His expression held both fear and regret, for different reasons. He was not quite as afraid of Meesei or the rest of her pack as he was when their conversation began, but he was still afraid of how this was going to affect their lives. He was afraid that he was going to be leaving his life behind, but at the same time, he understood completely why Ariel was doing what she was doing. His personal wants, the needs of his family, and the needs of his wife were all pulling in different directions. Needless to say, he was feeling torn and wanted to find a way to calm himself down.

"I know, I know, I just...still need some time, okay?" Rukeewei responded as he continued out of the door.

Meesei knew that there was little she could, or should, say in this situation. She was much more of a stranger to Rukeewei than Ariel, and it was Ariel who would be able to reach him most effectively. "If you need any time with your husband, we are not in any rush that would require us to take action today."

Ariel remained in still shock for several seconds longer, staring at the door. She only turned to Meesei and Sabine as an afterthought.

Sabine had her own look of fear about her. She sat tensely in her chair with no lack of guilt in her thoughts.

"We would have needed some time anyway, but thank you," Ariel said with a calmness that contradicted her face. "You had best not trouble yourselves, Rukeewei and I will work through this."

Ariel brought a hand to her side and lifted herself out of her chair.

"He is just scared, sister," Sabine said. "It is okay, talk to him when he calms down, he would not..."

"I know, Sabine, I know," Ariel laid a hand on Sabine's shoulder and tried to smile. "I just didn't want to hurt him, and I..." Ariel's eyes reddened and she tightened her lips. She tried finishing her sentence, but it came out as a sob.

Meesei could sympathize with Ariel, particularly the uncertainty of what Rukeewei was going to do or think about the whole situation. Meesei had left her home without a word, so she had not experienced it herself, but she had seen the effects of fear and uncertainty before among members of the clan. "For people who have only known a normal life since hatching, it takes time to come to terms with this kind of information. All of us, our lives have been filled with turmoil, but I suspect this is all new for Rukeewei."

Standing up from her bed, Meesei approached Sabine and Ariel. "Is there anything you need from us? Anything you feel that might help? I have always found that people are more accepting of us the more they can relate to us. You would know better than I what your husband might find the most sympathetic about us." She suggested. Of course, that was only if Ariel felt that any further action was needed. Doing nothing could be the best choice to allow Rukeewei to calm down.

Ariel took a moment to scrunch her eyes and regain enough composure to answer.

"I don't know. I think it is best to just let him calm and think for now. To take this all in." Ariel opened her teary eyes to Meesei. "I'll try to talk to him later, and maybe have him talk to you or someone else in the pack. Would that be alright?"

Regardless of the answer, Ariel closed her eyes and bowed her head to wipe them on her sleeve. "I can't say what he will decide. I do know that he isn't rash. I just hope it wasn't wasn't a mistake to keep all this from him until now."
