They were only supposed to be data, characters for a video game played worldwide by kids and adults alike. Digimon: digital pets whose purpose is to be cared for by their partners, called Tamers. Of course, Digimon are also capable of battle, having destructive power of their own that can be augmented by the use of "D-Cards" carried by their Tamer, and scanned into their handheld Digivices called D-Scanners. The game itself and all its concepts were created by the gaming mega-corporation known as D-Connect. Thanks to Digimon, D-Connect has become the largest and arguably most powerful company in the world. As the popularity of Digimon exploded worldwide, so too did their influence on things like economy and even politics. As for what really goes on within D-Connect's high offices, no one actually knows, though rumors and speculations are all over the place. D-Connect only became the center of even more speculation when suddenly beasts started emerging from machines and other electronics with ties to the internet. D-Connect called them Cyber Beasts, and theorized them to be made of corrupt data from rejected Digimon designs, but came under fire with accusations from all directions. In order to save face, D-Connect greenlit "Project Destiny" wherein they searched their gaming databases for the top Digimon players around the world, and sent each of them a cryptic email inviting them to take a "tour" of D-Connects main headquarters in Tokyo. These players, these Tamers - should they choose to accept the invitation - would have their lives changed forever. Because you see... Digimon are no longer just a game.
This is a setting based loosely on Digimon Tamers, where digimon in that world was just a popular franchise. The same applies to Cyber Beasts, but this setting will incorporate a few aspects of Savers/Data Squad as well as Tamers. Basically D-Connect will recruit the best Tamers from within their player database and give them "real" Digivices designed to resemble the D-Scanners, but with a "real" Digimon stored within it. By scanning a specific D-Card, said Digimon will be temporarily manifested into a physical form that can fight against the Cyber Beasts with the Tamer's help. Of course, like most Digmon stories, there's more to this setup than meets the eye, but you'll have to play and survive the game in order to learn those secrets.
