Attention players! This IC is officially begun! Read the introduction is the 0th post, and then let us know whether you'll explain how you got to the gallows! We'll be starting, if you'll forgive the pun, with your characters hanging on to life. You'll need to devise a means to escape. Assume that any possessions you have are otherwise located, and that you are wearing sackcloth. If nothing proves sufficient, than perhaps the will of Vicaria's gods may prove merciful?

@kalleth not trying to be confrontational, just trying to make sure I know what I did wrong so I don't repeat. Still kinda new to play by post.

Is it because I put interaction between bloonwb's character salim and Aleksander, or the npc guard and Aleksander?

If it's the former, I was going off of what bloonwb posted. My quote of salim was taken directly from him. If that's not ok, then I will avoid in the future. Still learning the ropes.

If the latter, I noticed other people dictating npc behavior, it seems a good way to move the narrative along. Again, still learning.

I appreciate any advice or help.

P.s. in tabletop we always referred to metagaming as dictating the characters actions with our of character information for an advantage. In play by post, does metagaming mean determining other people's characters actions? Just trying to get a grasp on the terminology. Thanks again.

NPC, in any RP means a character that is not playable by one player. Some GMs will say that "their NPCs" can only be played by them, but then, by definition, that's not an NPC. its a Playable Character. The guards are ok to kill, if we're going by typical RPG logic.

Then again there are plenty of people on this site who define things differently...

I'm not trying to be a hardass or anything. But just so I can set te record straight, I'm fine with players introducing NPCs and controlling them. But what I will say is that you'll need to be comfortable with me controlling them also. I liked what Empath did because it was funny. And your response to Bloo was fine, considering that you were responding to his action. What I was objecting to was just your dictating of Empath's NPC's actions. You can attempt to do things, and then it's up to me and possibly the person who introduced the NPC to figure out if what you attempt succeeds.

I guess this is more character driven than anything though, so I won't really mind unless you give yourself god powers and succeed at everything. I encourage you to fail, to make the RP more interesting, and to see where it takes you. However from now on, I'll try and accept creative and thoughtful explanations for stuff. As long as you can justify it to me, I think it'll be all good.

Empath's most recent post is the example I'll use. D'ren is a boxer, and he punched the crap out of those guards. And then...decapitated them. Yeeeeah, that's a little crazy. But I like it, so my arbitrary will allows it to remain. Mwahaha.

That actually brings up a good point. I didn't realize that the crossbow guard and the guard making his way towards us were the same guard until your most recent IC post (which was brilliant by the way. I loved the brief glimpse into that guards past day.)

It was mostly a misunderstanding I suppose. But I'll try to be more perceptive in the future so as to not control other people's npc characters.

Other than that, so far so good?

D'ren may be more experienced at fist fights, but every incarnation of D'ren can use weapons. I assumed this would be a light-hearted RP kinda in between Evil Overlord and Heroes and Villains thematically. Once D'ren gets away from the NPCs, he will be more talky and less actiony anyway.

This is what I think happened. In kalleths narrative, he introduced a lone npc guard, moving through the crowd. Then, infamous empath, correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems you introduced a new guard wielding a crossbow, that's the way I took it.

In my narritive, I assumed there were two guards, and I went after the one in the crowd. In kalleth's narritive there was only one guard, crossbow guy and guy making his way through the crowd were the same. Thechnacally, who was right depends on if infamous empath intended to create a new guard, or use the lone existing guard.

However, I feel it doesn't really matter, it was all just a simple misunderstanding either way and I don't think we should focus on fault. I'm really enjoying this rp, and I think good vibes going forward is the best plan.

I'm digging kalleths world he built for us, and I'm really liking the rest of our characters interactions.

I will state this personal disclaimer ---> I officially allow any and all narrative use of mundane npcs that I create such as guards, random bandits, unnamed hirelings, etc. By my fellow players and of course by the GM

Yes, I did do that, for the sole purpose of escape. I assumed there would be more than one guard at an event as big as this. Unless Kalleth specifically said "only one guard attended this huge event", I still dont think there's a meta-gaming issue.

My NPCs are easy to identify: they have no names. If I bring in a character with a name, they are a character I intend to play. I can count the number of times on one hand that ive brought in a named NPC who was allowed to be used/killed by other characters.
