"You don't believe in magic." Rachel nodded. "That is understandable, if it's been blocked for so long. But blieving in magic doesn't make you crazy. And I've only ever know one person who can fly. He said he tried a broomstick once but that didn't quite work out." She looked at you thoughtfully. Finally she said "How about this: You take a day to consider what I told you. Think about being able to move 'stuff at random', look through these books. I'll come back tomorrow and we'll see how you feel."

"I was raised to believe in logic and all that. If I can see it then it's real. I've never definitively seen proof of Magic and thus I do not believe in it. "He said with a matter of fact tone. "I'll do it. Just because I'm curious and I'm not doing anything better tonight. "He said looking at the magic book section. He didn't know if she was for real but she felt like she was. He shrugged as he looked at the book she had shown him before.

"Alright." She nodded to him. "Whatever you find tonight, there's no need to be afraid. You're not alone. I will see you tomorrow, Owen." She headed for the exit. But before she went through the door, she looked back once more and said "You can't experience the wonder untill you're willing to believe." With that she left the store.

You can't experience the wonder until you're willing to believe... Those words would be with you tonight.

As soon as she was out the door, Owen started to read the book he had been given. He didn't know if he could understand it but he kept repeating what she had said like a it was a mantra he couldn't forget. He wanted to believe but he didn't know what else he had to do.

He was so focused on the book that he hadn't even made dinner for his brother yet or barely done any work other than read his book. There was something there and he was just waiting for that aha moment.

There was no aha moment. There was store closing time, there was a hungry teenager wondering when he would get fed, there was the passing of time as it normally did, but no aha moment. Rachel had said that your ability to move stuff was related to magic. Perhaps you should try that. Once your brother was asleep, of course.

You can't experience the wonder until you're willing to believe...

Owen didn't even notice the whole passing of time and he figured hat Alex would come down to the store wondering were his brother had gone off to. Owen raised his hand and tried to move a book by just yelling at it. "Move! Come on move!" He yelled before he got an idea in his head. He calmed himself down and thought in his mind 'I believe that I can move this book by a though". He had no idea of this would work but for once Owen was believing even though he was sure his brother was still awake.

The book didn't move, didn't even stir. He looked pretty foolish staring at a book like that. Did he really think he could make it move just by looking at it? Wasn't that the stupidest thing he'd ever thought? Magic? Yeah right. Next he knew he'd be pulling a rabbit out of his hat. If thete really were magic, wouldn't the world's problems be solved? Wouldn't his parents still be alive? And that woman, she was just toying with him. She was just trying to see how gullable he was, right? ...right?

Owen had no idea what he was doing. The woman had been really vague and he thought he believed. He had tried and nothing happened to the book so why bother? It only ever worked when he was scared or worried. Never when he was calm. Owen just felt defeated. His huge try had failed yet again. This woman was just some cruel person to get him to think like that. He had tried to believe and nothing happened.

Loud music suddenly came from upstairs where Alex should be sleeping. Startled you realised it was midnight. Well past young teen bedtime even on a weekend night.

Owen jumped nearly a foot in the air as he was startled at the noise. He didn't look at the book but the usual conditions for his power to work had occurred just then. Owen stormed up stairs and started banging on the door. "Alex! It's past midnight! Why the heck are you sleeping?!" Owen yelled through the door.

"just the one song!" Alex called back through the door. "Dad would've let me." Alex adored his father. Lately he was using this reason to try and guildtrip Owen into getting his way.

"It's after Midnight, Alex!" Owen said not taking his nonsense right now. He knew he was trying to manipulate him and it wasn't going to work. "Dad would have yelled at you to Go to sleep. Come on,Alex. It's late. "Owen said trying to keep his cool right now.

"You suck!" But the music went down. Yup, Alex was having issues. Still, it was after midnight for you as well and tomorrow was a saturday. The store needed to be open for business again tomorrow.

"I'm sorry, Alex but you gotta sleep. "Owen said through the door. Instead of quitting and going to sleep, Owen went back downstairs to try at the whole moving things again. He would try all night if he had to. He was used to all night binging and his counted. Owen sat infront of the first book and tried again. He was thinking to himself 'I want to believe. '

Nothing happened. No matter how long you thought you wanted to believe, the book didn't budge. Any other object didn't budge. You grew tired. This wasn't like studying. There the mind kept itself occupied. Now you were just continuously telling yourself you wanted to believe. No matter how hard you tried. No matter how much coffee you poored yourself, eventually you noticed your head was resting on your arms on the table.

The clock noted 8 am, which meant the store should open soon. But just as you realised that with a start, your hand hit against the mug, spilling fluid all over the book. Damn it!

Wait a minute... Didn't you distinctly remeber setting that mug down further away from the book so as to prevent this? Or had you been too tired to notice where you put it down last time?

Owen had figured that the woman was a lunatic who had guessed dcoredftly with the book. Just telling him one vague thing was not enough for him to understand how to move things with his mind. It wasn't like he could think about a ham sandwich and one would appear as commanded. That was not how the world worked.

Then the cup moved. He knew it moved since he hadn't left his chair since he sat down earlier. It might have been nothing but it felt like he had done it. He had wanted the cup closer but now it had spilled everywhere. Owen quickly cleaned it up and opened the store. He would be exhausted but at least he had a little proof.

The day was rather busy, leaving you with little time to think and no time to try and make something move again. Around noon your brother dropped in, told you he was hanging with friends today and wouldn't be home for dinner. Rachel didn't come until just before closing time. She browsed the magic section, waiting for you to finish with your last customer.

Owen let out a sigh as Alex fled the area as usual. They had grown so far apart over the last few years and Owen had been trying to do something about t for awhile now. He looked over at Rachel and just felt mad. He stormed over to her and gave the girl a glare. "So thanks for dragging my hopes around. I tried to believe I. Fairies or whatever I needed to do but I barely moved a cup. I'm not entirely sure I didn't use my hand and forgot about it. You're vague little tip didn't really help."Owen said clearly cranky from

Owen looked a little mad but he calmed himself down. "I managed to make a cup hop a little. So no I was not throwing fireballs around. My brother kept distracting me. "He said calming himself down.
