"Ye'r lucky I spotted ya when I did. If yer'd flown on like that yer ship coulda blown up before yer'd made it ter the ground." The stout shipyard owner glanced at the battered ship which was smoking ominously and rubbed his large belly. "Well, good riddance I say by the looks of it. No offence ma'am but whoever sold you that piece of crap musta been hopin' ter make some easy buck from ya. But ye'r in the right place now, I tell ya. 9500 credits yer said, eh? Well, I got me three ships that fit yer budget."

The shipyard owner waved his dirty hand towards his business and you could see ships of many different sizes all over the place. Most looked quite a bit larger than the ship that was smoking behind you and from the brand names you could see you gathered that this man dealt in the more luxurious kind. He even had what looked like a brand new Mattiz grande, the kind of ship high-ranking gouvernment people chose for transortational purposes. For most of these ships you didn't even have to check the price tag to know they were well beyond what you could afford.

The shipyard owner was a fat, balding man who, by the looks of the very tight suit he wore, believed himself to be a lot thinner than he actually was. His hands were smudged with grease, but his face was surpisingly clean. He was also definitely the talkative kind, for you couldn't get a word in while he took you to another end of the yard. He kept pointing at the ships, telling you with some exageration what kind of buyer he expected for that model and what features it was equipped with. He was obviously quite proud of his business.

He took you to a hanger in the back and opened the large doors. Inside you could see several ships, each much smaller than the ones outside. This was obviously the hangar where he kept the vessels he deemed not suitable for public display.

"There's my first option fer yer." He pointed at a small, black ship on his left hand side. "A Vixen 3001." He explained rather unneccesarily as the name was painted in red letters atop the metal. "She's not too great looking from the outside, but they don't come more reliable than the Vixens." He might exagerate here and there but he spoke the truth this time. This Vixen model was easily fourty years old, but Vixens were known to make it to fifty years without breaking any engine part. They had all sorts of troubles with bolts and screws on the interior, the 2000 model had had computer problems, but whatever happened, a Vixen would keep flying. It's space-folding capabilities were not great, but with 2.01 lightyears a day you could do worse.

The Vixen 3001 was a small ship, though. It had 3 cabins, so you could take two passengers and with some creative remodelling you could carry as much cargo as your previous ship could. The price -2500 credits- was reasonable. With this ship you could continue living the way you had previously, but it was definitely not an upgrade.

"So whadda yer say? Wanna check the inside or move on straight ter the next option I got fer yer?"

Let him talk, let him talk. Do not interrupt, do not interrupt. Do not fuck this up, Charlie.

While the shipyard owner led her around, blabbing on about something or another (She really wasn't interrupted despite what her mock interest expression would say.), Charlie was thinking about what her next steps would be. Sure, she might have had her ship for years but, uh, there wasn't exactly a lot of love between the two so a part of her was glad to see the ship go. (Although, she was not glad for whatever sized dent got taken out of her funds by the purchase of a brand new one.)

Back to the present, the shipyard owner had introduced her to the Vixen 3001. Immediately, Charlie was taken by the ship. She'd seen a model similar to this on one of her expeditions with her father so she was already rather familiar with the specs of it. And the reliability of it made Charlie somewhat eager to check it out herself. She was confident in her abilities that, should anything go wrong, she could fix it. Sure, it wasn't necessarily a step up from her old ship but she was doing well enough with the old ship before everything went to hell.

She could handle this ship and whatever it had to throw at her, she was sure of it.

However, she was not going to rush into it. While 2500 was a pretty good price, she was not going to jump into a buy without at least seeing the other ships.

Blue eyes moving to the owner, she gave a polite smile before responding. “I believe I'd like to see the other two ships before I make a final decision.”

The shipyard owner took you a little further into the hangar, towards a dark grey ship quite a bit Larger than the Vixen. The Queen Elisabeth was a ship designed for hauling cargo. A decade ago the Queen brand was associated with a large network of mansmugglers, giving the brand a bad reputation. The scandal was complete when it was discovered the top of the company knew about the design and building of the hidden compartments meant for human trafficking. The top people were arrested, some investors took over, even changed the brand name, but they never stood a chance against the angry media and the company went out of business.

The Queen Elisabeth, as well as the Queen Victoria and the Queen Mary were really fine ships though. The problem now was that with no mother company backing the brand and delivering spare parts anymore people had to either search the second-hand markets or find other creative solutions whenever something broke. While the ships were still good and spare parts still available through less-than-direct channels, the price for these ships had dropped 30%.

The Elisabeth had 7 cabins, two of them double, so it could house 9 people. It also had three cargo sites which could be protected by force-fields allowing manipulated atmospheres if you were carrying important or sensitive goods. Next to that the main cargo bay could hold nearly three times what your previous ship could hold. For 5800 credits, this was definitely a step up.

Beautiful Charlie admitted to herself, staring at the ship with unabashed awe in her eyes. To think, a Queen ship just prime for the taking. Was she supposed to not be drooling over it? Sure, some of the parts may be a bitch to deal with when they reached the point of no return. However, Charlie was confident in her ability to... figure something out.

To be creative... yeah, I can definitely do that. And 5800 credits? While costing a pretty credit, it would all be worth it. No doubt. I've paid more for worse.

But, even though she really just wanted to just take this ship as her own and explore it, she knew that she should at least look at the last option. Although, her mind was pretty much already made up. Then again, she could be surprised, who knows?

“How about we see the last one? Just to cover our bases, here.”

The third option was a very impressive one. The Centaur brand was known for basically making small flying hotels and this version was no different. It had 4 crew quarters, twelve double guest rooms and about as much cargo space as the Queen Elisabeth. It could maintain a speed of nearly 3 lightyears a day for weeks without failing. It had several area's where the guests could relax, including but not limited to a bar, a pool and a gym. If you were planning on ferrying people around the galaxy, this was certainly an interesting option.

"I feel for your situation, captain. Yer ship breaking down the way it did, really unfortunate. Bad business from the one who sold it to yer I say! A shame to us credible dealers. Tell yer what, this baby is worth a little more, but I'll make this an even 9500 credits, just fer you."

For 9500 credits this was truly a beautiful ship. It would cost you everything you had, but then you'd be able to carry quite a few people around per tour.
