When does one decide enough is enough?

Greed brought war. War brought hope. Hope brought greed.

An endless cycle, but how does one break it?

The stories and legends speak of a man mad enough to change the fate of the universe.

Can those bound to an ancient grudge find a way to let go, or will yet another world be consumed in the flames of war?

Anyone can pick up a rifle. Not everyone can refuse to fire it in the face of adversity.

The Federation

By the 22nd century, humanity begun the beginnings of space colonization. Civilization was expected to change as a whole, as new tech was ushered out to supplement this new venture from agricultural irrigation systems to simpler goods such as the medicine taken for a cold.

They were wrong.

The field of space colonization led to massive pool of greed. Companies looked for the highest dollar and countries were keen to claim territory on an extraterrestrial planet. Everyday people were suddenly locked in an everyday struggle to survive... until tensions boiled over. Years of greed shattered any semblance of relations countries might've had as Earth was plunged into war that smashed civilization itself into ashes.

Yet from such a devastating war that nearly drove humanity to extinction, hope arose from the ashes the war created. Carefully planned talks between diplomats and anti-war demonstrations by protesters paved the way to peace and prosperity, leading to the creation of a unified planet where borders no longer mattered.

Under the guidance of the Federation, humanity now worked for the betterment of its own, but history tends to repeat itself.

Now, thousands of years later, the Federation is a shadow of its former self. The noble goals that backed the creation of the Federation have been all but abandoned, and unrest nips at the very core of it. A rallying cry is sorely needed to unite the splintering Federation, or like glass, differences will lead to the shattering of a galactic-spanning civilization.

The Vanguard

No one knows where exactly the Vanguard came from, nor do they know where it started. Most sources believe that the source of the Vanguard comes from a scientist whose name, unlike his work, remains lost to history. Considered insane by his colleagues for his clearly inhumane practices, the scientist sought revenge after his work was seized.

Using what assets and secretive connections he still had, the scientist formed the basis for a strike force hidden directly under the nose of the Federation. Filling the ranks with homunculi and synths, he created an army loyal to him and himself only.

However, the stories say he could only control it for so long before the scientist seemingly disappeared.

Without a master to control them, the Vanguard continues its endless quest to destroy the Federation while being constantly fueled by factories and laboratories that support its warmongering. Millions of lives have been claimed, and millions more will be taken until either the Vanguard destroys itself or destroys the Federation--their sworn enemy for ancient reasons they themselves don't understand nor remember why.

Fighting is their livelihood, threatening to bring humanity back to the stone age unless stopped.

Synths

Synths exists as an umbrella term including actual synths, cyborgs, and droids. Employed by both the Federation and Vanguard alike, synths appear different in any section or sector of the universe. Some may appear human, while others, such as construction synths, may appear greasy and rusty overtime due to constant usage to build or tear down. The only real difference between the two factions' synths are that the Vanguard strictly uses Synths for their war effort whereas the Federation uses them for anything--from foot massages to conducting wars.

Homunculus

Homunculi solely belong to the Vanguard, being that their creation was labeled inhumane (and in those that believe in religion, an affront to god(s)). Forcibly aged in stasis tanks and with the Federation's destruction implanted in their genetic coding, homunculi appear as fully grown humans despite only being mere weeks, months or years old. Additionally, like a Synth, homunculi also come in different variations, dubbed first generation and second generation.

First generation homunculi are all but nonexistent now. Reliant on the food-like paste that keeps them from breaking down both in mind and person, first generations were used as the opening strike against the Federation. As a result, the majority of them have been killed, and those that still live often suffer the same fate to remove them out of the equation due to their overreliance on the paste.

Second generation homunculi are, in other words, the next model from their predecessors. Imbued with the same fervent hate for the Federation, second generations only have to rely on the paste in extreme circumstances, and can function without it for long periods of times.

In retrospect, the paste is what exists as food for homunculi. Without some of it (depending on their generation), they are likely to lose their minds and go rogue before their bodies begin to fail, leading to death.

Other quirks that the homunculi have is that despite being nearly identical to humans outside of a few differences, they don't really have names, instead referring to each other as their gear says. For example, one might be called TS-207, which means Test Subject 207. That being said, it isn't uncommon for homunculus to name themselves after words they might hear or read. One might take the name Lexington after reading a sign directing traffic to the Lexington district, or another might take the name Charlotte after hearing someone scream in an attempt to locate the person.

Humans

Humans are more or less the entirety of the Federation. Unless one is born into high status or knows how to play their cards right, a human's life is often rough, being oppressed by the elites and forcibly conscripted. However, actual humans exist within the Vanguard as well, yet with a frightening twist. Those that were not killed on the battlefield or executed and instead were captured or fled to the the Vanguard's aid are turned into what are essentially human copies of homunculi. Having their minds forcefully and violently wiped, the humans within Vanguard know only one thing: to destroy the Federation.

Regardless of whether you read the above or not, if you made it this far, allow me to congratulate you, but now to the nitty gritty. This is an idea that I've been experimenting with and might end up writing as a novel, and therefore I'm looking for someone to help me test the water and expand my ideas (I do have some more but I didn't want this to become an infodump) for any future instances of this RP. 

That being said, I was thinking our characters could exist as part of the Vanguard faction, with them eventually finding out their reason for creation and maybe putting a stop to it. However, if you're still interested, I do have some requests that I ask of any possible partners browsing this thread.

1) That you be at least 18. Not because of smut (which I'm not looking for), but because of possible graphic scenes. It's scifi and all, but it's still war.
2) That you post at at least a casual to advanced level. No Free RPing here.
3) That you are okay with an average post speed of maybe 1-2 posts per every few days to a whole week. I'm not looking for a RP where I have to respond every day. I have other RPs too, and I may have a job soon.
4) That you actually talk in OOC or PM occasionally. It's hard to RP with someone when they're silent.
5) Thread preferred. Will only use PMs for mature stuff.
6) Seeing as I got most of my influences for this RP from animes, I would like to keep it anime.
