Welcome to the League

March, 2019

The PFL officially began on March 2nd, 2019--with an announcement of some magnitude. Though smaller in scope, the hope was that the PFL could come to own niche markets previously dominated by college markets, expand into Canada and Mexico and generally provide a bridge between the superstars of the NFL and the unpaid players of collegiate football. With only 8 teams in a North-South conference, many were wary of what kind of future the PFL had.

March 2nd, 2019
The Vancouver Leopards struck first, flying in both former University of Oregon Head Coach Kellen Sharp--who had been a rising star and many assumed destined to become an NFL head coach--and former Baltimore Ravens Defensive Coordinator Braden Weiss.

Reports from sources close to the front office indicate tentative interest in former NFL Head Coach Alexander Thompson as a candidate for the head coaching position in Anchorage. They reportedly flew him in early this morning and are expected to have him meet with the owners and other staff this week.

March 5th
Quebec City interviewed Gabriel Thomas, a former XFL and NFL head coach and consultant for a possible coaching position.

March 8th
At the end of the week, reports surfaced that potential candidates for Quebec City had flown in Walter Lerenti and Rylen Erickson for potential interviews.

San Antonio Bullfrogs, of the PFL, re-branded as the Austin Rattlesnakes March 15, 2019
This morning University of Texas alum Darian Stone announced that he had recently finished negotiations to purchase the San Antonio Bullfrogs, a team in the new Professional Football League. On top of this he added that he was moving the team to Austin and re-branding the team as the "Austin Rattlesnakes". We have this quote from him:

" I believe Austin is a better choice for the start of this team, and for the future of the PFL as a whole. The PFL was started as a way to bring professional-level sports to College dominated cities, and Austin is one of the prime examples of this. While the Longhorns at UT have popularity all around the city, people in Austin have always had to root for professional teams from either Houston, Dallas, or San Antonio, being in between all three. I am hoping to give them a Professional team they can root for from their very own city. " - Darian Stone, Owner of the Austin Rattlesnakes

The Rattlesnakes are placed eighth in the draft order for the PFL's first draft, and Stone is two weeks behind other owners in the league to hire coaches. The nation looks to him to see what he can do with his limited resources, and see if his dream of a great Austin team can become a reality.

"Hello everyone; I'd like to thank all of you for coming to this press conference on such short notice. I can't apologize enough for the circumstances but I'm gracious for your time," a man said, standing at a podium with one other person in a chair behind him to his right. The man standing was somewhat aged being in his early 60s, with thin peppered hair. In front of him was a small crowd, mostly reporters, and the flash from the cameras could be seen and heard in the otherwise quiet gathering.

"For those of you who don't know me, my name is Tom Bergen. I was born and raised right here in this great town of Montgomery, Alabama. Through my life, I have been blessed with many successes in several fields of business and have lived in areas all across the United States and have visited many nations worldwide. However, I must say, there's something special about being here. Anyway, I promised these reporters a news story, so I guess I need to provide." There was a small clamor of laughter from the crowd at the statement.

"Every now and again, an opportunity arises that a man just needs to take a risk and gamble on. Many of us will have heard by now of the Professional Football League and of several of the teams that have been forming and already establishing an administration. Vancouver Leopards, Quebec City Bulls, Austin Rattlesnakes, the Anchorage Abominables, and others. But, if you're like me, you have to wonder: why not Alabama? After all, is there any place that has a deeper love for football than our great state? Well then, I'm sure many of you can already tell where this announcement is going" he said, a broad smile on his face. "So, let's not waste anymore time."

Banners unfurled on either side of him, revealing the logo of the team, apparently dubbed the 'Montgomery Stallions.'

"Yes, that's right, I am proud to officially announce the Montgomery Stallions as one of the teams partaking in the first season of the Professional Football League. For a while now I've actually had the approval from the PFL Head Office and the arrangements had already been made so it's not surprising that a lot of you were expecting an announcement like this. In fact, while I was finalizing arrangements with the city regarding a bunch of boring financials and other devilish details, I have already made several hires. For that reason I'd like to introduce the General Manager of YOUR Montgomery Stallions, James Thompson."

James stood up and walked up to the podium, visibly nervous and perhaps even shaking despite the small smile on his face. He shook hands with Tom as a public show of good faith before taking the mic from the new team's owner. "Okay, well, as I'm sure you can tell I'm more than a little nervous to be up here. Obviously there are a lot of challenges ahead for this team and this league, and I've signed up for a lot of work, but being in front of a camera makes all that seem small-time." He was smiling as he said it and the crowd responded with some light snickering, helping to ease his anxiety. He had a moderately thick southern accent, appeared to be in his late 30s, and had dirty blonde hair with vivid blue eyes.

"Anyway, I will make this quick. I love football; I'm a total fanatic. I took this job to put together a winning product that will entertain viewers. Most importantly, though, I need to make one thing clear. Call me Jimmy; only my mom calls me James and let me tell ya, it's not a good time when she does." He smiled again, suddenly having a small bit of swagger on stage in place of anxiousness. "With the PFL side of things covered, Tom let me get started and I'm proud to announce that the Stallions have a full coaching staff already. For our head coach, we have reached an agreement with Bill Farro and we are bringing in Zak Palmer as the Offensive Coordinator. We really think that with their combined offensive expertise and experience that our vision for Stallion football will become a reality. For our Defensive Coordinator, we reached out to a young mind in William Lloyd who we believe will be able to blossom under the experienced eye of Farro. All three of these guys are renowned schemers and we think that will give us the edge we need as a team. We look forward to putting together a roster hand-picked for our coaches to generate excellence. Thank you; Go Stallions."

Jimmy walked away from the podium, taking a seat next to Tom who rose up to thank everyone to coming and that the conference was over. As soon as he said it, the crowd began talking feverishly and some reporters immediately got in front of their cameras in order to relay a summary; it made him nervous to know that he would be included on the news, his earlier swagger having drained.
