Kay kissed John back before he spoke and she got up off the couch. She was just thankful that he wasn't giving her all the pity over everything or seeming to be humouring her for the sake of it. "remember to get some rest, see you in the morning" she replied to him, before exiting the room and heading to the spare room that Chas showed her to, bringing her bag whilst she was at it. It was only when she got to the room and sat down on the bed that she truly realised how drained she felt, dropping her bag on the floor by her bed, she climbed I to bed still dressed, pulled the duvet right over her and closed her eyes. "please don't let me have more nightmares..." she wished to herself in a whisper before yawning and drifting off to sleep.

Luckily for her, all night she didn't have any more nightmares but it wasn't considered a calm sleep either which was pretty normal for her. She woke in the morning, and rubbed her face with her hands, refusing to be awake in this very moment and yanking the duvet right over head with a grumble at being awake. She wasn't particularly a happy morning person but knew she'd have to get up soon if she wanted to check in on Serena. For now though, she was going to be stubborn and refuse to move as she comfor

John had tried to work all night but he didn’t last and was passed out in the chair by the desk, snoring softly. Serena had woken up and was slowly getting up, changing and moving to the door to see if anyone else was awake. Then she stepped out and headed to the kitchen, planning on making breakfast. She didn’t see John so she started to make pancakes, humming to herself.

"Kay you need to get up and get in the bathroom. You can't stay in bed all day." Fee scolded her in her head, knowing that now she was able to have a comfortable place to sleep, she really would remain there if no one made her get up. "Fee shut up...I'll get up when I'm ready to" Kay replied back, annoyed that she was being nagged. Yet when she turned over she did get a wiff of herself and crumpled up her nose in disgust. "okay, you win, I'm getting up" she sighed, sitting up and pulling herself out of bed, seeing that she had new belongings that Serena had bought now in her room. Smiling softly, she leaned down and grabbed the towel and other bathroom supplies, bundling them up inthe towel and walking to the bathroom, where she turned the shower on, waited a moment for the water to heat up as she got undressed and eventually stepped inside.

Her wounds from the day before had healed up, but she only took note of how good the hot water felt as it ran all down her, as she got washed. Like Serena, who was humming to herself in the kitchen, Kay started singing to herself in the shower, unaware if she could be heard or not. She had no idea who was up or around but she quite frankly didn't care.

Serena was making crepes and dipping sauces, humming turning into the song 'Can't Stop the Moonlight' and she started dancing around the kitchen, her eyes closed as she did. She was dancing around happily when she heard steps behind her but she didn't stop, flipping the crepes in the pan and singing more.

John was still passed out in the work room, snoring louder as he turned his head.

Kay got out of the shower feeling a lot more refreshed and certainly smelled a lot better. She perched on the edge of the bath to dry off properly and sort her hair out a bit, tying it in very loose braids so it was out of the way as she got dressed into clean clothes. Stepping out of the bathroom, she headed down the hallway and into the main area, where she heard Serena humming to herself in the kitchen, to which she was walked over and leaned against the doorway. "Morning" she greeted smiling, glad to see her new found friend in a much more upbeat mood. "This smells amazing" she added, seeing what she was making, not remembering the last time she had crepes.

Chas wasn't around as he had a shift to do of actually being the cab driver he was, but that didn't stop him from making calls between customers to see if there was anyone who could grab him Kay's old files and find out who 'treated' her and at what hospital. He made the promise John that he would try and get as much information as possible, and he had no plans on breaking that promise. It was still seered into his mind at how urgent John was considering this information to be had, and almost how personally hewas taking it on Kay's behalf.

Serena stopped and turned around, then smiled at her. “Sorry, I have the song stuck in my head. I was never good at getting them out...I am almost done. Just need to cut up some fruit. You want to check on the master of the dark arts? I think I heard him snoring in the other room...” she smiled and waved her hand, her shadows moving and grabbing a knife and fruit, starting to cut it up. She had better control since she had gotten better rest.

John grunted in his sleep, a nightmare starting to form. A demons seal, a little girl crying out, John being slammed against a wall of fire.

Kay smiled and nodded, she was just honestly glad that she was in a far better mood and looked well rested now. Seeing Serena in such a way made her now glad that she got John to use the spell on her to make her sleep. She noticed also how much better control she had of the shadows, "sure" she replied, walking into the main room and seeing John asleep exactly where he was last night. She recognised that his sleep was starting to give him a nightmare and walked over, placing her hand gently on his back, rubbing it. "John.. John its just a nightmare, wake up" she spoke, softly at first but loud enough to try and stir him. She hoped that she could wake him from his nightmare just as he did for her the night before.

"come on John, time to wake up. Its just a nightmare, I'm here, it's okay" she kept saying to him, not knowing what he was dreaming about, but hoped just saying to him that she was around would help in stirring him awake.

John stirred worse then when her voice hit his ears he shot up, breathing hard and looking around wildly. He saw Kay and sighed, rubbing his face. “Thanks love...wha time is it...” Serena walked in and frowned. “It’s time for breakfast, come on you two. John? Is Chas coming in? Should I save some for him?”

John stood up and said “he has a shift this morning, but I’m sure he would love some food when he comes in later”

Kay quickly dodged him sitting up abruptly, but stayed close as he looked around rapidly before sighing and calming down. She was about to reply to his question when Serena appeared and answered the question for her. "Serena insisted on making some crepes and stuff for us, woke up to find her already making them in the kitchen." she smiled at him. She stood back to let him get up and hovered to wait for him before walking into the ktichen to the dining table and sat down. "so he's a legit cab driver then?" She couldn't help but ask John. "how long is his shift?" she asked again, unsure if John would know or not but figured he could do with some kind of small talk that wasn't about his nightmare. If it was late at night and just them, she may have tried asking him about it, but she figured now wasn't the time at all.

She then turned to Serena, "So you slept well then?" she asked her, "oh, and thank you to your shadows keeping watch last night" she added, even though she didn't think it was highly needed because she was with John, she did appreciate the fact they and in turn Serena was still watching out for her, even with Serena asleep at the time. Though she couldn't help but wonder if they were spying on them when they were playing tongue twister with each other and if they somehow let Serena know,

John sat at the table and said “I think eight hours? I’m not really sure these days...is the tea on?” Serena walked over and set the mug in front of him then looked at Kay. “Like a puppy. And your welcome. They are my eyes and ears when I’m awake, but they are good for sensing danger if I’m asleep.” She set the food on the table and said “dig in while they are warm. I think i saw some nut spreads around here somewhere...”

She went back to look and John looked at Kay, “I’m alright. Just a nightmare about the mistakes I’ve made in the past...nothing to worry about...”

Kay nodded at John's reply, thinking it was admirable and somewhat baffling how Chas was able to keep a proper job whilst doing what he did with John. She then looked at Serena as she replied to her and smiled, glad that it was a good sleep. At the suggestion of digging I to the breakfast, Kay had no qualms of doing so, picking up her cutlery and doing exactly that. "these are good Serena!" she commented after her first mouthful, before yet again turning to John, "seems both of us have a past that still haunts us" she said to him between mouthfuls of crepe and fruit.

After that she barely spoke as she continued to eat as much as she could deem necessary before leaning back in her chair and sighing happily that she substantially full. "did you find anything else out last night about anything?" she asked him evenfual

John ate slowly as Serena found the spreads and set them on the table. He looked up and said “kinda. There is more to that shadows watching over the bird of life thing. I found reports of huge fires in places that were random, but the night seemed to swallow them up? Sound familiar?” Serena looked up and said “you think Kay’s mother had a shadow watching over her too?”

John leaned back and nodded. “Yes...I think it’s a partnership as old as time by the looks of it”

Kay listened to what John was saying about what he found out and she found it incredibly curious to say the least. It didn't ring any bells to her, so she shook her head but she became more curious when Serena suggested it was to do with her mother. "it doesn't ring a bell with me but I blocked out a lot of the day of when we were told she was found dead somewhere, or so they thought was her body. I can't remember much of it." she added, "but if she did have a shadow watching over her I didn't know anything about it" she continued. "do you think there'd be a way to find any of those answers out?" she asked them both, wondering if either or both had any possible answers to it.

Serena frowned and said “I’m not sure...I can read shadows but only of the living and objects...” John rubbed his chin and said “we could find the reports...maybe use some magic along the way...have to be careful with magic dealing with seeing the past. It can be a little tricky”

Serena looked at Kay and said “did you ever see her body?”

Kay listened to the two of them reply to her, understanding that it could be tricky in some ways when dealing with the past, even if she wasn't fully clued up on everything involving this world of such things. "I understand" she simply replied before looking at Serena, shaking her head. "I never saw it. Was only told about it, like I said my mind if foggy on a lot of details, but I do remember seeing my mother leave the house to go out one day, and she never returned. That's it really, apart from being told she was gone and presumed dead." she explained. "In the book I was reading, it said that if a phoenix dies for good, there wouldn't be a body anyway, as like in the mythology we just turn to ash surrounded in fire." she added.

John nodded and muttered “it would be a big blaze...historical...” he looked at Kay and asked “when exactly did she go missing? What year? A being like her dying would have had a huge fire to mark it. Enough that a lot of people would have noticed”

Serena nodded and added “if we can see if and when a huge fire was, and where, we could get some clues. I can read shadows in locations as long as the stuff there has been there long enough”

Kay listened to what John was saying and explaining, and at his question, she had to think to make sure her maths was correct and she was remembering correctly. "well, I'm 31 now so it'd have been 1999" she replied after Serena said her bit about how they could use the year to try and do some digging. "September of 1999 to be precise if I'm remembering correctly" she added. She hoped they could give her answers and closure about what happened to her mother by finding out her location of her death. If they could find out where she died, maybe, just maybe Kay could go there and get the closure she so desperately needed as well as possibly some answers or some clue to finding out more about who she was.

John got up and said “to the internet we go. We search for local big fires that could have happened in September of 1999, it’s odd it’s right before the new century.” He walked back to the work room and Serena smiled. “You go help, I’ll clean this up and make a plate for Chas when he gets here...”

She started to clean up, lost in her thoughts as she did. The date seemed really familiar, but she couldn’t place why.

Kay nodded, and let him get up to go to the work room, she looked at Serena who told her to go help John, "if you're sure, thanks Serena" she replied, getting up from her chair and headed to where John was. She walked in and saw him logging onto the Internet and walked over, perching on the spare chair beside him. "how come you think it's weird it's before the turn of the new century?" she couldn't help but ask him, having never really thought about it before now. She just always thought of it as the year she was nine years old, and considering her birthday was in May, she hadn't been nine for long.

"is there anything I can do to help? Maybe write anything you find down or anything?" she also asked him.

John looked at her and said “there’s a myth that there are certain kinds of creatures that have to either die or take new life before a turn of a century because the flow of magic changes when the year does. It’s a theory though. There’s a pad and pen on the other side of the desk”

Serena was finishing with dishes when a pain hit her head. She stumbled and grabbed the counter, the room spinning for a moment as she felt the pain hit and run thru her. She closed her eyes, hoping the pain would pass but it was taking its time.
