"Ebon Hill has always been an unforgiving place. It is a place where men die and women weep."

You are a Bogwood native who has found themselves in service to "Lord" (self-stylized) Oliver Hogwood of Ebon Hill. Who you are or where you came from is of no matter to Hogwood. The only thing he expects is loyalty to the cause; that cause being the ensured protection of the Bogwood, and in turn, Ebon Hill.

Despite your oath, however, everyone is aware that something foul is afoot within the Bogwood. Whatever powers lurk deep within the swamp may shake not only Ebon Hill, but the entire morass to its core if left to fester.

Situated within the swampy foothills of the Bogwood, the outpost that would later be known as Ebon Hill has a storied history.

Decades ago, an aging veteran by the name of Oliver Hogwood had been hired by Lord Merritt Finch of Oakenchill Point, who had sought to further secure the mysterious Bogwood and protect the Shadowspire from any future threats within and outside the quagmire. Financing the expedition out of his own pocket, Lord Finch sent Hogwood deep into the swamp alongside two companies of adventurers, mercenaries and others eager to prove themselves.

The subsequent campaign took a great toll on Hogwood's men. Many of the initial settlers had fallen to disease or in battle to the bog's inhabitants. Others fell to insanity or deserted, vanishing into the misty wetlands of the Bogwood. Still, they nonetheless pressed on, eventually settling upon a large-mound like structure in the northern marshes after weeks of campaigning through the foul-smelling much and mud.

On that mound, the men and women under Hogwood's leadership built up a series of crannogs, setting up their camp and firmly establishing the frontier. Ebon Hill, they decided to name their new home, alluding to the scarred, black wood that had been cut down to use in construction of defenses and buildings.

Since then, Ebon Hill has firmly stood as a fortified chokepoint, it seems that faith is to be shaken once more. Something foul is afoot in the Bogwood, and it may just shake not only Ebon Hill but the entire morass to its core.

Hello! This roleplay, Hogwood's Men, is my first attempt to make sense of the mess of unused roleplay/writing scraps I've had laying around. It takes place in a region known as the Starlands, but more specifically the swampy woodland within it called the Bogwood. Players will be playing characters that are under the service of "Lord" (self-stylized) Oliver Hogwood, be they older adventurers from the founding, or the aspiring youth that have seemingly found themselves taking residence in Ebon Hill for one reason or another. There's always been glory and fame to be found in getting yourself killed somehow, after all.

The Bog is hostile, and many don't make it far into their winters. But nonetheless, these men and women will have one goal: to ensure it survives at all costs. If that entices you, feel to hit me with any questions or ideas you might have—this is a somewhat impromptu-style roleplay, so anything that can help fill in some gaps is welcomed.

"Ah, for just one time I would take the Northwest Passage..."

The Northwest Passage is a fabled route through the IDFK SOMETHING GOES HERE

An era of crisis has fallen upon the once great Starlands.

Throughout the Starlands, a great fracturing has taken place upon Audric II, High King of the Starlands, falling mysteriously ill, and his court advisor, Foucaud vanishing from the capital without a trace. Each kingdom making up the realm has chosen their own truth to the event, shattering the Starlands into various factions and loyalties. Some have pledged their support to the crown, to find Foucaud and bring his assumed crimes to justice. Others have chosen a different approach, casting away ancient ties in the name of disgruntled independence or in support of Foucaud.

The island realm of Gramarye is an ancient one.

Dire times have come for Carnwynte.

Two weeks ago, a heavy mist from the sea had blanketed Carnwynte. Although the port city was no stranger to foggy days, having been settled upon the shattered shore itself, this fog was unnatural, like a veil enveloping the harbor. A great quiet has befallen Carnwynte, and no ship nor person has been seen leaving the port in weeks. It is almost as if Carnwynte had become a ghost town overnight.

As Carnwynte remains an important shipping center, the lords of the realm demand answers. However, none of them are willing to raise their forces and march upon Carnwynte; such an action would take time and countless coin, never mind risking the anger of Lord Carnwynte. Therefore, the lords have sought the aid of mercenaries; travelling swords-for-hire to heed their call instead.

You are one of these hired soldiers. Stationed at a camp located outside Carnwynte, you and some others have gathered with three goals: 1) investigate the city, 2) find Lord Carnywnte, and 3) put an end to the fog. Do so, and you'll be greatly rewarded. Fail, and your name will be forgotten to history.

Your fate—and Carnwynte's—is now in your hands.

This roleplay is invite only to people I have wrote with in the past or am friends with.

Taking place in my ramshackled mess of a fantasy setting, this is my attempt at making some sense out of it. There are some plot/setting points that I already have in stone for this roleplay, but much of it is still left to be determined. As such, I will be giving some leeway with character creation, allowing the players to build where needed. That being said, however, I do ask people to run the concept or idea across me first to see if it would properly fit into the roleplay and/or setting.

The sheet is simple. All I require is a name, picture, and concept characterization. Anything else is extra.
