Bane sighed and said “Dante?”

The vampire nodded and leaned forward and said “back during the last war between the purists and the government, there was so much bloodshed that many thought the whole planet would die in war. So there were peace talks held and they all tried to come to something to stop the fighting. But it went no where until someone came out of the blue and made everyone stop. The words they spoke some how made everyone see the damage being caused. Peace talks went on and when the fighting didn’t stop still because of morons and bruts, the third party made them stop with their fighting and power. When peace was fianlly restored; the third party vanished without a trace…”

Matias silently listened in on the impromptu history lesson. He felt like he was listening to some amateur writer explain their synopsis for their next novel– not that the events that transpired these past few days didn't feel like he was living said synopsis. At the end of Dante's lesson, he shuffled in place and raised an eyebrow.

"Okay? And this is relevant why?"

Dante sighed and said “well…it could be that old dna is related to the war back then…maybe they think it’s the dna of the third party…” bane glanced back and added “ya, and if they think the story is true, there has to be a reason why they are looking for them. Ans how the boss relates”

Dante rubbed his neck and added “I wonder if it’s linked to the people being taken as well…”

"That..."

Matias shook his head.

"That doesn't even make sense. It could just be old because the person's old. Aren't you guys hundreds of years old or something? I doubt any of you were part of this 'Third Party' crap, whatever it means. I think you're looking way too deep into this."

He raised a finger.

"The boss didn't even want us knowing who she was. She just really values her privacy."

Bane glanced back and said as they pulled into the office parking lot “Matias, the last war was over a thousand years ago. None of us were around. And that dna looked about that old…”

Dante said as they parked “and if she is somehow linked to this…it means a she’s a lot more then elemental”

Matias blinked when Bane uttered "thousand". Were they reading the same report? Matias was starting to doubt himself.

"Well, what does it matter that she's a part of this 'Party' anyway? That's cool, I guess. Well..."

He looked towards the door.

"I suppose the puritans would want to know about that. Pieces of shit, always getting in everyone's business..."

His hand reached for the door lock and unhinged it, then his foot joined in by kicking the door open. It wasn't violent, but it was certainly audible.

"Alright. Lead the way."

Dante moved out and said “I think it’s more the mystery around the party and how they really stopped the fighting. But I bet there’s more to it we don’t know. But let’s go find out”

They all got out but when they did they heard an alarm going off. Bane looked around and said “what is that?”

Matias thought he had set something off with his crass exit. His heart jumped to his throat at the sound. He tried to look around for threats, clues, allies, but there was nothing but his own group, himself, and the screaming building.

"The hell do we do now?!" he hissed, "Someone's gonna see us!"

He reached for his gun, swearing under his breath when he felt nothing but his holster. He grumbled some more as he crawled back into the van's crevice to retrieve a replacement. When he emerged, his eyes widened as they detected movement from what seemed like the upper floors.

"They're coming down... Whoever the hell they are."

Dante shook his head and said “it’s inside the building. We didn’t trigger it. Something is happening g inside” they heard blasts and screams inside the building. Bane cursed and said “someone is hitting the building. We have to go in and get people out now”

None of the blasts hit him by any means, but Matias was still sent stumbling back. Supporting himself with the back of the van, he looked towards Bane, his eyes widened and furious.

"Are you crazy?!" he barked, "I'm not going in there! I value my damn life!"

From above, there was a loud crash. A silhouette leaped from a broken window and was propelled forwards, a blue streak following their departure. Matias needed nothing more than the wings to put two and two together before the figure disappeared into the distance.

"Puto... Alright, fine, but only because the boss is in there."

Dante pulled his sword free as the guys ran for the doors, bane shifting part way and taking out the door. People were running and screaming as blasts came flying. It looked like the attackers were upstairs near…

“Crap, they are heading to Midnights office. They must be after her for the bills she’s been working on in the courts to get more protections for the other races. We need to get up there”

The continuous blasts were so thunderous and the screaming so ear-splitting that Matias could hardly understand a word that anyone was even saying. Nodding to feign understanding, he pushed a few people along to the exit to hasten their dash to safety. His breathing peaked, his brain going haywire with the onslaught of noise and noise and more and more noise. He darted upstairs nonetheless, following behind the others. He only prayed that this would be quick; he hardly expected it to be easy.

Bane was pulling people out of offices and Dante used his speed to open doors and help people out. When they got up’s they heard yelling and shadows flying around. Three purists were at Midnights office door; trying to get by the shadows blocking the door.

Bane moved to Matias and said “crap, she’s pinned”

It was difficult to see through the crowd, but Matias caught a glimpse of the puritans and the shadows holding them off. It looked like there were only seconds left before it would get truly ugly.

"Well? Don't just stand there."

And with that, he leaped towards a random puritan, setting aside the consequences in favor of violence.

Bane nodded and Dante jumped after him, slamming into another and throwing the next into the wall. Bane barreled thru the rest of them and said “get in there and make sure she’s alright”

The shadows moved for them and showed bodies of purists on the floor and Midnight standing there, panting and covered in blood. “How did you…”

Matias ran for the door the moment the opportunity came. He nearly tripped on what appeared to be a corpse and saw several others along with Midnight, thankfully living.

"We can't chat right now," he panted, "we have to go. Now."

Midnight likely didn't have a chance to respond before Matias put his hands on her, attempting to pull her along.

Midnight shook her head and said “there are others they are after. It’s not just me. There are others in danger” Bane looked into the doorway and said “we have to move boss. We can’t hold them off forever”

Through grit teeth, Matias exhaled. He looked back at Midnight, his grip tightening on her.

"So?! Are you just gonna stay here and die because someone else is in trouble? Cut the crap, this place is about to blow!"

He pulled again, this time much more forcefully.

She pulled back and said “I can’t let innocent lives be taken cause because I’m at danger as well”

Bane cursed and said “boss we are working on it. We have to get you out or it’s going to go worse and on top of that look worse that one of the lords of the court stayed behind to fight instead of getting out”

"Oh my god, that's fucking it."

Matias's hands lunged and gripped some bloody fabric, his knuckles whitening from the tightness. Then, with the power of a thousand Suns, he yanked Midnight forwards. Whether or not he succeeded in moving her, he stumbled back from his own strength, his head receiving a nice smack from the floor. He let out a short scream, grasping his head and shutting his eyes.

"For five seconds, would you just listen to any of the shit I say?! Any of it?! I'm so damn tired of arguing with you about everything!"
