"I never said I wasn't joining."
Alice looked at her jigglypuff and raichu. Jigglypuff huffed and did not look very happy. Raichu took a hesitant step forward. Alice frowned.
"They both look hesitant...in one way or another. They appear to not have heard you very well either."

Pidgeot made a sound as if she were sighing. The bird pokemon shook her head.

[Olive Fontaine]

”Hmm. Well we’ll see how they react when we start the game.” Charlotte faced her Pokémon and gestured towards herself. “Come on, guys, let’s play!” They followed her as she ran over to their side of the field. Riolu appeared to be stretching while Pi the unown floated leisurely behind.

A moment later, Charlotte asked “Mind if I serve?” Once Alice and her team were ready, she would take a center position and send the ball slowly flying over the net. If they managed to return it, the game would officially begin.

"um....ok."

When the ball was served....

Pidgeot tried to peck at the ball before Alice or whatever other pokemon stepped forward even got a chance to reach for it. Alice frowned and shook her head. She did not approve of that. Raichu backed away. Jigglypuff, who had finally stepped forward, pouted and looked quite upset. Jigglypuff inflated a bit.

Alice stepped forward.

"Let's try again. Pidgeot step out and let someone else play, ok?"

Pidgeot looked upset as they returned to their pokeball on their own. Alice sighed and shook her head. She tried to get Raichu to step onto the field. She succeeded in the end.

The blonde girl made a shocked face which quickly melted into laughter. She recovered the ball as Alice swapped her team member out.

“Okay, now for real this time. Your move!” She was obviously humming with excitement as she served the ball over a second time.

Jigglypuff missed. The little pokemon got upset. Raichu would try to hit the ball, but trip and fall. Alice ran over to make sure that he was ok, and to try and calm down Jigglypuff.

The game would continue once she succeeded doing both of those things. Alice tried to hit the ball back herself when the ball was served again. Jigglypuff would try again, only to hit the net and he would pout again. He hated losing like that.

Raichu looked like he was feeling bad.

”Riolu, knock it back!” Charlotte had called out. Alice had returned the ball starting things off. The dog Pokémon hustled over and bumped the ball back with joined wrists. Jigglypuff managed to get under it and hit it back, but it was stopped mid-way by the net.

“I guess that’s one point for us. But don’t worry guys, we’re just getting started,” she encouraged. The next chance she got, Charlotte bounced the ball practically right to Raichu, implicitly inviting him to try again.

OOC - Your Pokémon can use any of their moves to hit the ball and play along in this game. Once you hit the ball back, I would appreciate a chance to say if and how my team responds. We don’t have to commit to playing out the full game; we’ll just score a few points and handwave the rest when we’re ready to move on.

Alice did her best to play the game. Jigglypuff would simply keep trying to go after the ball. He tried to use lullaby, but Alice stopped him.
"That is cheating, Jigglypuff!"

Jigglypuff got mad.

Raichu got nervous and accidentally almost shocked the net when it used an electric attack. Alice gasped and tried to calm him down. She succeeded of course.

Charlotte jumped back as Raichu fired off an electric attack, missing the volleyball but almost frying the net. “Amazing…”

“Huh, guess that’s two points,” she said, still somewhat in awe from seeing the move at close range. She walked the ball over to Alice and smiled. “Here, why don’t you guys serve this time?”

Raichu blinked.
"............"

Alice blinked. She managed a nod.
"ok."
She handed the ball to Riachu, pointed at his tail, and tried to encourage him. Jigglypuff huffed.

Raichu did his best, and it just barely made it over the net. He had used his tail to do it. Riachu blinked in surprise. Alice smiled at him.

Charlotte clapped for Raichu’s success, but then quickly snapped into directing her own team. “Now Pi, it’s your turn. Send it back!”

The unown quickly floated over to intercept the ball, spinning around and humming with excitement. When it caught the ball, it reared back its head, closed its massive eye, and then slammed its face against it. The volleyball was launched back into the air. It wasn’t a powerful return, but it would clear the net.

“You wouldn’t expect it, but he’s actually gotten pretty good at this!”

Alice tried to hit it and missed. Jigglypuff tried to go after it and missed. Raichu flinched and its' tail somehow ended up smacking the ball. The ball was about to just go over the net again. Alice blinked.

Pidgeot remained in her pokeball, upset. Vaporeon raised an eyebrow as she watched. Ninetails frowned. Persian yawned and rolled onto his side, about to take a nap, bored.

”That’s the way, Raichu!” Charlotte cheered. “Now Riolu, it’s your turn!”

The Pokémon broke into a sprint and dove for the ball. He managed to hit it as he slid across the ground, but the wall went wayward and landed out of bounds.

“Your point. We’ll get you next time,” she added playfully.

Alice blinked.
"Um...Alright then."

Raichu looked surprised. Then, the pokemon looked like he was going to blushed.
"Rai.....chu.....?"
He looked away.

The game continued on for a bit longer.

Alice and Charlotte had just wrapped up their game and were winding down when someone new came out to join them. It was an middle-aged woman with short brown hair who was carrying some items on a metal tray. Charlotte winced. "...Mom?" she said in surprise. The woman was dressed very properly and had a put-together air about her. She was one of the administrators of the school; the one who had adopted Charlotte after the death of her parents.

"I remembered that your club was having its first meeting today. I thought I would bring some special treats for you all to celebrate!"

"Oh, mom, you didn't have to -" the young girl said, somewhat embarrassed by the situation. "...you really didn't have to."

As she approached, it became clear that the treats were a series of colored pastries and some chilled juices of different varieties. "Don't worry," she said. "I won't stay long. I've got work to do."

"We'll, I've got to say, your timing is pretty good. We just finished playing pokemon volleyball." Charlotte went for an apple juice first and took a sip of it to cool off. She gestured to Alice, offering her some.

"I heard about that dear. I see you brought out one of your favorite unown for the game. Who ended up winning, anyways?"

"We decided to call it a draw." Charlotte said happily.

Alice blinked. She took a step back.
"um....hi."

Raichu immediately hid behind her again. Jigglypuff huffed and went back into his pokeball. Persian yawned. Vaporeon simply blinked. Pidgeout was still having a fit and the movement the pokeball suddnenly made showed that. Ninetails narrowed her eyes.

Alice tried to reassure raichu. She tried to calm down pidgeot and jigglypuff. She checked on the others to make sure they were still alright. She declined the snacks and drinks.

The administrator seemed a bit disappointed, but she left her special offerings out and returned to the school after a few minutes.

Alice seemed somewhat preoccupied dealing with her pokemon, so Charlotte felt compelled to give her some space. "Thanks again for playing. Pi, return." The P-shaped pokemon buzzed and disappeared with a shimmer. The tile in her hand briefly glowed blue again as this happened. She put it away and looked at Alice again. "I'll hang around and see if there's anything else going on with the club, but I think the meeting time is almost over for today, isn't it?"

Alice nodded.
"Alright."
She picked up the pokeballs that held pidgeot and jigglypuff. Persian yawned, got up, and walked up to her. He would return to his pokeball himself. Ninetails would follow suit. Raichu whimpered before he went back into his pokeball, looking nervous and sad. Vaporeon would silently go into her pokeball.

The new kid walked out to the field. He had a Glaceon walking with him. "Sorry about the tardiness, I was catching a Shellos. I'm Aster by the way."

Alice nodded.
"Alright."
She picked up the pokeballs that held pidgeot and jigglypuff. Persian yawned, got up, and walked up to her. He would return to his pokeball himself. Ninetails would follow suit. Raichu whimpered before he went back into his pokeball, looking nervous and sad. Vaporeon would silently go into her pokeball.
