Tony Stark was rich. Wildly so. And he had a taste for the finer things in life. So maybe, just maybe, this would be better than her previous studio apartment. She might actually have a full kitchen to work with and a bedroom that didn't have a full view of the bathroom. The young woman had to admit that as scary as it all was, it was also completely exciting. She had no idea who her other new team mates would be but – She suddenly felt very self-conscious. What if they were better than her? For all she knew, they were all trained fighters and hackers and whatnot. In the words of Director Fury himself: “She's just a waitress.” The Council, whoever they were, along with some of the Director's advisers didn't seem very hopeful for her after finding her YouTube channel. She was whimsical – It wasn't a crime! But was she fit to train with Captain America? Seriously; one minute, she's serving him pie and milk only to turn around a second later and be his apprentice. She used to box... But that was ages ago. She hadn't fought in, what – Six years? But the Captain had asked her and she didn't want to disappoint him.

It was all pretty intimidating as she waited for the ding of the elevator. She had been directed to the 93rd floor by a rather out of shape man that insisted that he be called “Happy”. It was a peculiar nickname for a man that didn't look particularly joyous, but perhaps it was on of those ironic nicknames. Like a large man called “Tiny” or a skinny guy called “Fat Joe”. Nonetheless, she thanked him promptly and had made her way to the elevator with her things and her dog. She had a lot of different ideas of what her new home would look like, but she still found her breath stolen when the elevator doors opened to reveal the most elegant room that she had ever seen. The view of the city was gorgeous – But how could it not be when “Avengers Tower” was the tallest building in New York City? [Besides the Empire State Building, of course] She walked out of the elevator before the doors could close, struck into silence by the sheer amount of space from the open floor plan.

She didn't have to ask where anything was besides the rooms and bathrooms – There was a bar and kitchen to her right, a sort of “common area” right in front of her, and every other part of the open space seemed to be work space. There were six sets of stairs that lead up to six doors in a circle like the large room was and she was able to get a good look at them, noticing that they were numbered one through six with various symbols on them – Cap's shield, Thor's hammer, a black widow, Iron Man's arc reactor, a target, and a green “H”. There was an extra door though it bore no symbol; it simply held nameplates like one might find on a teacher's door. She made her way up the stairs that lead to Captain America's room [or so she was assuming], though she turned right where the extra door was between his and Thor's room. Apollo. The code name that S.H.I.E.L.D. had allowed her to take was on one of the nameplates. Smiling, she ran her fingers over it before looking for a handle. None of the doors had handles. Curious, she pressed her hand against the door and jumped back, startled when a small blue pad extended from the door. She looked around, unsure of what to do about it.

She finally came to the conclusion that it was a biometric scanner and placed her hand against it, praying that she didn't set off some alarm. There was a thin blue light that scanned her hand. “Agent Apollo. Avenger Apprentice. Identification verified. Welcome to Avengers Tower Miss Torres..” J.A.R.V.I.S. seemed to have been “woken” when she checked herself in, the door sliding to the left smoothly. The room was...Okay, it was just a short corridor with six doors, three on either side. She moved down the hall until she came to the door with her name on it, grinning at the colorful decorations on it. It slid open without prompting, only furthering her state of awe as it revealed a small room that fit a queen sized bed, a vanity, two doors [one she assumed lead to a bathroom and the other to a closet], and a desk. It was large enough to have her few cherished items – that she wasn't carrying with her – scattered and placed neatly on shelves.

She removed the leash from her pup's [and the term is used lightly because the dog came up to her knees] and smiled as she immediately pounced onto the bed and made herself comfortable. “Happy here, Yum?” Astrid's voice was melodious as she pat the dog's head and glanced over to see her sugar glider's cage sitting on a shelf, the small creature within resting happily. Satisfied, she set her bags down and headed back out, scratching at her arms a bit. “Anybody home? Besides the invisible robut man?”, she called out as she exited her room and stood in the corridor of mostly closed doors.

“The others will be here shortly.” Tony flashed a charismatic smile as he exited the elevator and glanced up to see Astrid at the top of the stairs. “Tony Stark, nice to see you again.” As she walked down the stairs to meet him Tony made his way to the bar to grab a glass of whiskey. The younger woman took a seat at the bar and returned the smile. She wasn't exactly a friend of Tony's, but he had come in a few times with Steve to the diner and she had performed at one of his parties the previous year. “I did some more research on you. And you are a very interesting lady. Boxing and MMA champ with no losses on your record? I heard you punched a car and sent it flying.” He gave a wicked grin, intrigue in his eyes as her cheeks turned bright red. “I... Well, yeah.” It wasn't something that she talked about a lot and he seemed as though he were about to ask her how - A subject she didn't feel comfortable discussing with a human. And him of all people. He wasn't exactly famous for being sensitive. It wasn't that she didn't trust him. She just... Well, she didn't trust him. She was saved by the ding of the elevator, the tattooed female turning to see who stepped forth, her tongue fiddling with the piercing in her lip.

"Best two of three, Winghead!"

"I can do this all day, Barton." Captain Steve Rogers said with his arms out, then immediately going in to a defensive stance. Captain America and Hawkeye were in the training room. A room with steel walls, the floor made out of a soft foam, around was training equipment, weights, punching bags, and other various equipment. Clint Barton, also known as Hawkeye, wore a sleeveless S.H.I.E.L.D. workout shirt, cargo pants and boots. He was sweating and breathing heavily as he stood up. Steve Rogers stood in a classic military standard outfit. A tucked in t-shirt, black cargo pants, and boots of his own. His blonde hair a little messed up, but other than that, he wore a small grin. "I don't want to ruin your reputation..." Rogers said. He has been in this new era for a little while now, and after all he and the rest of the Avengers have been through together, he has finally connected with them and trusted them as friends.

He laughed and went at Rogers again. Rogers pushed one punch away, bending his other arm to block another blow. He walked backwards as Clint hit punch after punch. Clint kicked, Steve grabbed his foot and flipped him. Clint did a backflip, landing, then sweeping his leg again. Rogers jumped over it and sent a blow to Clint's abs. He backed up, but returned with a counter to Roger's other hit. The blow would have made a normal man double over, the Rogers barely felt anything. Barton swung again, but all his attacks were pushed aside. Rogers elbowed Barton, twirling behind him, and wrapped his massive forearm around his neck. Barton struggled for a few seconds until he tapped Steve's arm twice.

Rogers let go, Barton gasping. "Damnit Steve..." He said after regaining his breath. "Ever thought of joining the UFC if this whole Superhero thing doesn't work out?"

"The what?"

"Never mind..." Barton said with a laugh, grabbing his bow and quiver from a table. Rogers followed his lead, grabbing his iconic vibranium-steel alloy shield. "You think there'll be more stuff in Stark's fridge than veggie protein shakes and whiskey?" Hawkeye asked. Rogers shrugged. "If i learned anything from the army, its that you can't be a picky eater..." Both men walked in to an elevator, and Rogers pressed the button. Both Hawkeye and Cap looked to their right to see a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent staring in awe. Even today Rogers was a living legend, a man out of time, someone everyone seemed to respect no matter who they were. Rogers gave him a small smile and nod, and agent eagerly returned it. "I am a huge fan, Captain Rogers... Its such an honor... I'm just a tech guy, don't get to see much inside my office..." he said nervously. "Well its a miracle on what you do... All this stuff still seems like magic to me." Rogers said, referencing the advanced technology Stark has put in to this place. The elevator stopped on a mid floor, and the agent said his goodbyes.

The elevator started once again, and Rogers mind drifted. Today was the day that Natashia and him got their new Apprentice. Someone clearly incredibly strong, and fit to be a part of their group, even if Director Fury and his friends didn't think so... Looks could be deceiving though. Steve knew that personally. Astrid had a gift. and she could use that for good, and hopefully he and Natashia can train her to use it.

The elevator doors finally opened to their floor with a ding, Rogers and Barton both stepped out. Barton went straight to his room, while Rogers went in to the kitchen to see Stark and the waitress he knew for quite some time, although he can't really see her as a waitress anymore. "He's a little upset that training didn't go his way..." Rogers explained to both. He gave a nod to Tony, and went over to give Astrid a handshake. "Miss Torres. I see you already met the.. what was it, 'genius billionaire playboy philanthropist'?" Rogers asked with somewhat of humor.

“Don't forget hero.” Tony smirked and rose his glass towards the other two in greeting before turning his eyes back to Astrid. “Oh, we're already preacquainted. If this superhero gig doesn't work out for her, I'm definitely hiring her to cook around here.” He gave a light chuckle and sipped at his whiskey while Clint gave his own half smirk and went for a water from the nearby fridge. “I was just telling Cap that he should join the UFC. But Tasha said she's seen the girl fight before. I trust her judgment on that. And Cap's seen her strength. Can't argue there.” Astrid gave a nervous nod, secretly a little star struck.

She wondered if maybe she should have worn something more formal than just a button down – that showed enough cleavage that Tony kept peeking – a DC hat, and daisy dukes. Well, they weren't formally dressed either. Tony looked like he was about to flop on the couch and stuff his face with popcorn and Little Debbie treats. “This place is...amazing... Thanks for getting my stuff from my apartment.” She spoke with a light Cuban accent as she turned her back on the men and slid from her seat to move and look around the place one more time. The setting sun was casting a soft pinkish purple hue over everything that made it all the more breathtaking. Behind her, Clint adopted a sly grin. While his friend Tasha had seen the girl fight, he hadn't. He just wanted to see what she was capable of.

Tony didn't bother warning him not to, just giving a shrug and watching him creep up behind the girl. Astrid's eye twitched involuntarily as she heard the creeping footsteps, the feeling of being watched washing over her. Just as Clint's hand grabbed onto her left shoulder, she reacted immediately out of sheer instinct and grabbed it, turning around while twisting his arm and holding it there while his face contorted into pain. Without warning, she shoved her open palm against his chest as if to just push him back, but released his hand at the same time and sent him flying across the room and into the bar.

Tony had ducked out of the way, immediately whining about his broken glasses and the loss of his alcohol. Embarrassment washed over Astrid as the elevator dinged again and Natasha stepped out with Bruce, a teenage girl that was a bit on the short and thick side, and a tall boy with a serious demeanor. Tasha's blue eyes flickered about to observe the situation before a faint smile curved on her lips. “I probably should have warned you beforehand; don't sneak up on her.” Clint grunted in reply as he staggered towards Bruce and the short girl, allowing them to check out the damage done.

Tasha turned to see Astrid casually making her way back upstairs, but she knew the girl was horrified. There was something different about her from other people. She wasn't exactly human and there were things about her Tasha was curious to know about. She remembered watching her for two years. She was a predator then. An apex predator. But she just disappeared one day. Tasha had never been able to follow her to where she lived but she remembered that after the first two years, she hadn't seen her again for a while. When she popped back up, she was living in a crappy apartment and working as a waitress by day, an RN by night, and who knew where she went on her weekends off. She was different. Happier. Sweeter. Like a normal person her age.

She motioned for Steve to follow, heading up the stairs and into the apprentices' dorms, down to Astrid's room. Astrid sat on her bed, forlornly petting the massive creature she called a puppy. “You alright?” Tasha already knew the answer to that. Astrid shook her head, her blonde ponytail swaying. “I could have killed him. I haven't even started training yet but I almost killed one of the Avengers. Some hero I'm turning out to be.” She gave a light sigh, knowing that it wasn't her fault. Not really. Being here was making her jumpy. She had begun to realize how many scientists and government agents there were going to be around the place on a daily basis. Humans. It made her skittish and had begun to drive her even more paranoid. “Twenty-eight. That's how many times I've broken one of his limbs or put him in the hospital just during training alone. It's fine.” Tasha smiled at her, taking a seat on the bed next to her.

Steve shook his head in disapproval as he saw the grin Clint had on his face, and figured he would learn on his own of how strong Astrid is... but he wasn't expecting that hard of of a hit. He immediately went to Clint's side, making sure he was alright. Just scrapes, and many bruises he'll feel tomorrow. He turned to see Astrid going for the stairs, and Natasha telling him to follow her. He made his way upstairs. "Didn't your mom tell you know to sneak up on women, Birdie?" Stark asked from downstairs, where Clint made some sort of grunt. Bruce seemed to like it, although the nervousness he had at that moment. They all knew what excitement did to that man.

Rogers knocked on the door before entering, seeing the large dog on the bed with Astrid, and Natasha. He listened to them talk, his arms crossed. "He should have known not to try and do stuff like that... We're all here for a reason. You've got some potential for greatness, Miss Torres. And sooner or later they're going to see it." Rogers said. Steve usually gave an aura of reassurance and confidence... but he knew what she was going through. Steve felt out of place when he was unfrozen. He was in a completely new world with new technology, morals, and not to mention super heroes... But he proved to everyone that he can help. And now he was the leader of earth's mightiest heroes.

“Thanks, guys.” Astrid offered them both a light smile though she wasn't completely sure about this. Romanof was about to comment but tilted her head to the side and gave a nod. As she stood, she offered Astrid a smile in return. “I've got a mission in Barbados. I'll be back as soon as possible. Don't worry, you won't be too bored. S.H.I.E.L.D.'s letting us use a lot of their training facilities and equipment to make sure we whip you into shape. My personal favorite is the one in Brazil. I used to train there with Clint. Best part is the beach house and swimming after training.” Okay, that made her feel a little better. The idea of traveling the world to be trained by superheroes in exotic places was something that she liked the idea of. She gave Natasha a soft wave as she left before turning her gaze to Steve. As soon as the door closed, she hung her head and sighed. “I don't know if I can do this... If I do, then that makes me a traitor.”

Steve smiled a bit when he saw Astrid's face when Natasha talked about travelling the world to train. He gave a nod to Natasha as she left, and then listened to Astrid's comments. It was Steve's turn to sit next to her. "I was always the odd man out. Always the underdog... he stood up and walked towards the window. "some seventy years ago, i was a scrawny kid, getting the shit kicked outta me in every alleyway in Brooklyn. And then I knew the importance of power and strength... even when i was ready and eager to help, i was used as propaganda, no one trusting me in actual battle... but i proved them wrong." He turned and gave a smirk. "And when i risked my life and woke up here... Stark made it very clear that i didn't belong with a genius, two gods, and an invincible rage monster..."

"It was frustrating, humiliating, and i was scared, and alone... but i had these thoughts. I thought of the kids playing ball on the street when no cars were passing by. I thought of the family having a picnic in central park. I thought of all the bullies who picked on me, who would go through what i went through but with bigger, and badder people. And sure enough, i have a place here, as the leader of said genius, gods, and rage monster..."

"It won't be easy... It won't be fun at times, and there will be cases where you will feel useless. But you have this gift, and Agent Romanoff and I training you, you will be able to do the same all of us do: To protect the world from anything that put it in danger... plus the benefits of being a part of the Avengers is pretty good. A pool with a view, access to any city in the world, free television, and a lot of apple pie... but just not as good as the kind you used to serve me." Steve said with a smile, hoping to get her spirit up

Astrid listened to the Captain speaking, but it was hardly comforting. She knew everything that he was telling her already and she knew that she was capable of handling anything that they dished out. She'd make a great superhero. Confidence wasn't her issue at this point. She had thought it over and reminded herself that most of the others were humans and she should never feel inferior to humans. Fear was her only obstacle. She looked Steve straight in the eye with her brows pinched together as her expression grew serious. "I don't know if what I'm doing is right. Or safe. People like me... Mutants. This world isn't safe for us. I've heard and seen what the government and scientists do to mutants and now I'm involved with the most secret government agency in the world. They know my name, my face, where I live, and one third of what I'm capable of. What's going to stop them from turning me into a war machine?" The fear was in her voice now as she hugged her dog close, burying her face into the tan and black fur.

"If you stay true to who you are, and what you believe in, no one will ever take control of you." Rogers said reassuringly. He assumed she knew a lot about his past from how she reacted to his little speech (Which he often forgets everyone does), he wasn't going to bore her with more information on how he has had many issues with not only S.H.I.E.L.D., but his own American Government as well. "I'm new to this whole seeing gods, and people with powers. From what I've seen though, you are not a test subject, or a pet, or a toy. None of you are. And i will do everything in my power to make sure you don't end up as a war machine..." Steve said sincerely, putting a hand on her shoulder lightly to try and get rid of some of that fear and uncertainty from before. She was now his and Natasha's responsibility. They were to train her in combat and in being a part of the team... and he had a feeling she was going to be a good match for the Avengers.

Day Two...

Natasha was still on her mission in Brazil, so that left Steve to start the initial training with Astrid. Everyone was a bit surprised when she was the first one up, though she hadn't slept much. She never did. She took her "nap" and was up again at four in the morning for yoga. After that, she had made her way to the gym and beat around the punching bag for a while, though she was half-assing it and more so just hitting it softly to the point that it didn't even really move much. When six o'clock had rolled around, she rooted around in the kitchen for some food and couldn't find anything that she'd ever want to ingest and had managed to procure a car so that she could go grocery shopping. She enjoyed being back out at the farmers market and was reluctant to leave even though she looked forward to making a meal. It was seven when she got back and there were signs that others were already awake as well, though she proceeded with making the meal. She had her earbuds shoved in her ears as she danced around in her pajamas, having rolled up her sleeves so that she didn't get them too messy. She was caught up in the music, in the middle of a samba, when she felt eyes on her. Her back had been to the dining room the whole time so she hadn't noticed the gathering of the others. Her face turned bright red and a faint shimmering red light came from her though it disappeared as quickly as it had come.

"What was that?" Tony's face held a puzzled expression as he sat at the table with a knife in one hand and a fork in the other. Astrid feigned ignorance and gave her own puzzled expression. "What was what? The dance? It's called samba. You should try." She recovered quickly and gave a polite smile before moving to serve everyone, "You were glowing." Tony persisted, looking to the others as if asking them to back him up. "Well, I did get a lot of rest, so thanks for noticing." Astrid beamed a smile, continuing to feign ignorance as she piled everyone's plates. "What's all this?" Clint looked eagerly at the food as though he hadn't eaten in months and Astrid was glad of the subject change. "Steak omelets. You've got your basic egg omelet but it's stuffed with sauteed portobello mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, bell peppers, and cilantro. There's also hash browns and steak stuffed in there. And then there's some toast and blueberries and strawberries. With choice of milk, orange juice, or freshly brewed coffee." Clint was ravenous as he dug in, complimenting the food in between bites. But Tony wasn't letting the issue go. He stared at her intently to the point she was getting uncomfortable. As she rounded the table to serve his food, he squinted as though doing so might make her glow again. Instead, what he caught was the sight of her arms, as she hadn't rolled her sleeves back down.

"What the hell are those?" He grabbed her by the wrist and further shoved up her sleeve to reveal a number of various scars, some of them showing prominently under her tattoo. "Nothing!" She yanked her arm back and continued serving the food, saving her own plate for last. There was an awkward silence as they ate and Astrid could feel the gazes burning into her. "Do you cut yourself? You don't seem like the depressed type." Tony watched her carefully, Bruce turning to look at him. "Everyone's entitled to their secrets, Tony. Not everyone is as open as you are. Leave her alone." His voice was calm as he tried to mediate the situation. Tony simply rolled his eyes and went back to his food, muttering under his breath about there being no secrets between the Avengers. Though Clint simply lifted a brow. Astrid sat and ate quietly, staring at her plate for so long and so hard that her vision got blurry while she retreated into her thoughts. She knew she'd have to tell them. If she was really going to go through with this, they were going to find out anyways. She was only making it worse for herself if she didn't say anything. She previously hadn't been sure if Steve knew what mutants were - Mutants tended not to make themselves known it wasn't really public knowledge. Though he didn't seem fazed by it yesterday when she told him that she was one.

"So, how'd you get super strength?"

She was pulled from her thoughts when Tony spoke up again, much to the annoyance of the others. Before anyone else could tell him to leave her alone, she straightened her posture and provided an answer. "I'm mutant. And...something else." That was enough to make their jaws drop. There were rumors of them existing, so the two other apprentices were a bit mind blown to actually be sitting in front of one. Tony and Bruce seemed to be studying her while Clint didn't seem as fazed (much like Cap hadn't), and Thor just looked confused. "What do you mean? You do not look mutated to me." He looked at her closer, squinting his eyes as if looking for some flaw. She sighed and scooted her chair back some, relaxing her shoulders. "Some of us look it and some of us don't. Mutants are what humans call us. Technically speaking, we are homo sapien superior. The next step in human evolution." Thor nodded as though he understood, though Astrid wasn't sure if he did. Then again, she (nor any of the others) understood how technologically advanced his world was. "So... You were glowing?" Tony gave her a look as if daring her to say no.

There seemed to be a collective intake of breath when she exhaled and gave off a light as though every molecule of her being, from her hair to her flesh to her nails, seemed to have had a light turned on inside. "I can do a lot more than you know..."

"I'm here."
"I'm gonna need a rain check on that dance."
"All right. A week next Saturday at The Stork Club."
"You've got it."
"Eight o'clock on the dot. Don't you dare be late. Understood?"
"You know, I still don't know how to dance."
"I'll show you how. Just be there."
"We'll have the band play something slow."
"I'd hate to step on your..."

Steve woke with a start, looking down at the clock it was 4:00 in the morning. He heard someone exit their rooms. One trait that Rogers thought was both a gift and a curse: his peak human hearing made him a very light sleeper. He decided to get up as well. He walked in to his bathroom and took a shower. He exited in his usual attire. His short blonde hair neatly done, and in a gray therma-fit S.H.I.E.L.D. shirt, some black cargo pants and boots. He did what he usually did when he couldn't sleep: workout. He did pushups, sit ups, crunches, jumping jacks, you name it. As he did so all he could think about was how Astrid was going to do today. It was her first day of training, and Natasha was still out, so it left him to teach her. When it looked at the clock he realized that he had been working out in his room for some time. Two hours.

He sat up, and looked around. His room was spacious, but not too large. It had two windows that showed the New York Skyline, a comfortable bed, and all over the room were 40's antiques. A very old Brooklyn Dodgers poster (his favorite team, and was shocked to hear they moved to LA), an old Uncle Sam poster, photographs of family, and two on a small night stand next to his bed. One of Bucky Barnes, and the other of Peggy Carter. He sat down at a table, and opened a file he had opened many times before.

He read the names and looked at the faces of the people he fought alongside with during World War II. All fantastic men and women who risked their lives. Most were deceased, others were retired like Peggy... but he could never get the courage to see her face. He also flipped past a man named Logan Howlett, a man who seemed to survive more things than Steve did himself.

He heard chatter from downstairs... they were all up he guessed. Closing the files, he made his way downstairs just in time to see Astrid glowing... Everyone was in awe, Stark was speechless. "So... ah... when were you gonna tell us?" Rogers asked, not meaning it in a harsh way, just a simple question. after all, if he was going to be her mentor, he should have known about this kind of stuff.

“I was sort of going for never.” Astrid flinched at the sound of Steve's voice as though he had reprimanded her. The others gave her a puzzling look and she simply shrugged. “You all know how humans feel about my kind. I wasn't exactly keen on shouting it from the mountain top.” She crinkled her nose before shoveling more food in her mouth to avoid concentrating too hard on the way the others were staring at the light emitting from her. “What else can you do? ” Of course Tony was all too happy to push the conversation, leaning forward. But she went tight lipped and simply stared at her plate, becoming increasingly uncomfortable.

"Stand down, Stark." Steve said her him walking over next to Astrid, putting a hand on her shoulder. Tony gave a scoff. "I'm no soldier, Captain." Stark said, raising his eyebrows. "Then back off. That civilian enough for ya?" Rogers asked, his Brooklyn accent protruding from his anger. He always seemed to get worked up with Stark. They were both exact opposites. "I'm against secrets as much as the next guy, but we all know that pushing others to tell these secrets don't end well for us." He looked at all of them. "We've all had our secrets, and in time we told them..."

"So leave her alone, let her train, and in time when she trusts us, we get answers." Rogers looked down at Astrid, then everyone else. "We didn't run out of food yet, right?" He asked, walking for the fridge.

Astrid released a breath that she hadn't known she was holding when Tony finally stood down though she could tell that he wasn't quite finished with her yet. She quickly finished the small portion of food that she had fixed for herself and turned as she stood, plate and glass in hand. "I went out on a grocery run earlier. We're fully stocked on healthy food. I'll replace the alcohol I destroyed yesterday."

A light smile was given as she nodded towards the microwave. "Your plate's in there. Same as everyone else." She moved towards the kitchen though it was only to deposit her dishes before giving a sharp whistle. The large dog of hers came bounding in from the terrace and followed her down the hallway that lead to the gym. As she had been before, she wasn't really trying, barely tapping the punching bag in front of her with a light frown.

Steve opened the fridge, and then watched Astrid walk up the stairs to get her dog. When she left Rogers went for the plate she left, and took a bite. It tasted really good... but then, everything he's eaten has tasted a lot better than the stuff he had in his old life. He gave Stark a look, then looked back down at his food. "What?" Stark asked.

"Just give her space, alright? She doesn't need anyone interrogating her. She clearly didn't want any of this being told. We also know how you are with others." And with that he stood up, putting his plate in the sink, then making his way down to the gym. He watched Astrid punching the bag like he's done so many times. He walked up next to her, setting up a punching bag on to a hook with one hand a couple feet away from her. "The best way to hit is to keep your arms close to your sides, and up, to cover your head." Steve said casually, as if nothing happened in the room. He knew sometimes that talking about something doesn't help. He wrapped tape around his knuckles, giving a glance over at her. "Gives you a lot more agility, and defensive options." he added, making a few light jabs at the bag himself.

"I don't need to defend myself in a fist fight. I can bench press a truck." Astrid sighed miserably before throwing out a left hook that caught the bag and ripped the hook from the ceiling, sending the bag crashing into the wall and damn near through it. "I don't know what I'm doing here. I don't belong here." She sat down next to her dog on the floor, petting the furry creature as she watched Steve work out. She had seen him faux boxing with a few of his fans in the parking lot a time or two but she'd never gotten to really watch him throw a punch. He wasn't bad. But she found herself zoning out and calculating everything about his moves in silence, deducing that she could take him down. She hadn't seen Thor or Hulk fight before but she knew their strength was more on par with hers. Still, she was thankful that Captain saw something in her. She just wasn't sure taking his offer was right after turning down her friends.

Steve watched the bag hit the wall, feeling a bit offended as she mocked the way he fought. He shrugged, and kept punching the bag. "Suit yourself." He said calmly. He knew she was strong, but without technique, and the power of Dr. Banner's other half, some of the people they go up against can do a number on her.He could give Thor a run for his money for a bit before going down... He didn't want to try and fight the Hulk. He made quick dodges, imagining a little fight against an enemy, and just as Astrid did moments ago, knocked the bag right off the hook and in to the wall, although not strong enough to make a dent in it.

At her words and put his hands on his hips, and looked around. "But you are. Something inside your head said that you belong here." He said, looking at her massive dog now. "When most people hear what this group of people consist of... They usually think that we don't even belong here. We prove them wrong. Not all of us are. But from my experience... 'your kind' has saved my ass a ton, as well as the world. You haven't even shown what you're capable of. You can't say that you don't belong here... I'll be the judge of that." He gave a small smirk at the last comment.

"Now if you want to start your training... You gotta get up."

"I can't fight." Her statement was plain though it almost came out as a warning. "I.. I don't remember a lot from my time in the ring. All I know is that the last time I got into a fight I blacked out as soon as I got hit and when I regained consciousness I had destroyed an entire house. If my friend wasn't as gifted as she is she would be dead right now.... I can't control myself in a fight any more than Doctor Banner can control the Hulk when it gets out." She stood up and shook her head, lowering her eyes. "I will do anything else for this team but fight. I'm not going to kill someone."

Steve listened to her story, now understanding just what she meant. He's fought along the man a few times, and with each fight it seems he can get more and more control of himself. "I'll talk to Natasha, and ask if Bruce will be able to help with that... As for the combat, we don't have to start it now." He said, kneeling next to her. "Since Natasha isn't here, i think i can start your training off right. We can start off with Espionage. Or learning about certain weapons that we've collected over the fights, tactics... Any sound interesting?" He asked. He was a master at pretty much anything that had to do with being a soldier. Stealth, hand to hand combat, firearms, espionage, explosives, the list goes on. Truth be told he rather enjoyed the thought of training someone. The last time he's helped train anyone was Bucky Barnes... But he was long gone..

She was slightly relieved but still clung to the fear that haunted her dreams, the fear that had plagued her since she was a child. But she felt safe with Steve. She didn't quite trust the others, but she trusted him about as much as she could. A sigh came from her as she sat down next to him, a sharp take of breath coming from her as she realized how close she was sitting to him. She gave a weak smile and an awkward cough as she turned her head to hide the blush. "Espionage... I could be good at that."

Steve nodded. "yeah, I can see you doing that..." He said with a small smile. He got up, and held out a hand for her to hoist herself up as well. He noticed she had a slight blush to her, and he suddenly realized that she was rather attractive. Although he was a super soldier and an icon for many, he still wasn't much of a ladies man. "Now as you'll start to realize, Natasha's way of doing things and my way of doing things are completely different..." He said. "We're both good at what we do... but she seems to take morals out of the equation most of the times. So before she can teach you her techniques, I'll teach you mine."

He lead her out of the room, and in to another much smaller room full of computers and high tech equipment.

"Espionage is all about stealth, and gathering data... S.H.I.E.L.D. is known for the latest in technology, and its pretty simple to use, I'm not really tech savvy." Steve gave a smile again. "I'll teach you some tactics in the training room, then once you've got a hang of it we'll hit a simulation camp so we can gather some intel. You can choose the location when we get there. sound good?" He asked, crossing his arms.
