<Sheets>

Several bounty hunters join Darth Vader aboard the Star Destroyer Executor to discuss the terms of a particularly lucrative bounty...

Table of Contents
- Sheet Thread
- Wookieepedia - The Star Wars Wiki. This is the source we're generally using as a reference for this RP. Unless you've read the comics from the 70's, I'd say everything is here.

TL;DR Summary

- Post Character Sheets in the Sheet Thread (see link above) for approval.
- Star Wars Universe
- Rebellion Era; Probably 1BBY to 1ABY roughly
- The Tengaru (I made it up) System of the Outer Rim; Contains the planets Tengaru, Rhysul and Urtan.
- Characters will be mercenaries or other freelancers hired by Tengaru's hereditary ruler, the Sultana, or part of the Rebel Alliance's intelligence section assigned to it.
- Advanced -- that means two paragraphs or so per post, not 'you have to write a novel.'. My favored mode of posting these days is a two to four paragraphs, keep the plot moving, avoid big long posts (except maybe the intro)
- Collaborative GMing; I have final say, but I want to encourage people to have ideas on side quests and so forth.
- Multiple characters allowed to create a wider, fuller picture.[/list]

In Character Info
BREAKING - Sultana of Tengaru, JYS AKENDE, assassinated by anti-Imperial pirates in attempted coup. COMPFORCE elements assist loyalist government in maintaining order upon request of the head of the Interim Government, Chief of Planetary Defense, General ZIROTH ADARI.

[video, of a lantern-jawed man in a dark green uniform tunic with medals and a yellow sash across the shoulder, as well as a ceremonial sword and blaster, staring directly at the camera in resolute fashion.]

"We cannot allow these off-world malcontents to destroy the harmony of our planet for their grievances -- there is no disagreement that is worth resorting to violence to, and the safety of our citizens and serenity of our planet are our primary concern. We will not allow these rebels to continue to endanger Tengaru's children for their own macabre political game. To give into these terrorists would be to dishonor what Sultana Akende stood for her entire life. I have requested the assistance of the Empire, and Moff Silar has granted that request, in order to keep our planet secure..."

In other news, CEO of Vivon Industries, KELS LANDE, bid for a contract with the Imperial Navy to supply engines and other parts to their fleets in the Outer Rim. In a statement released today by the corporation, Lande specified that certain streamlining measures would be necessary to make this contract profitable..."

- Holonet newscast

The news always spins it, especially when the news is run by the government, as the news always is these days. The reality is that a year and a half ago, the Sultana of Tengaru survived an attempt on her life, but was forced to flee; a stunning betrayal by the CEO of Vivon Industries, the general commanding her system's military forces and a Hutt crime boss who stood to benefit from the arrangement. Jys Akende, the Sultana, was not actively a Rebel, but she was keeping her options open and sitting on the fence. As Sultana of the Tengaru system and owner of Vivon Industries, hers was very much the final say over certain affairs, a system that endured for many centuries despite its flaws. The biggest bone of contention was her refusal to cheapen her rates for a parts contract to the Imperial Navy; to compete with other bidders, Vivon would have had to cut wages and lower their labor standards. And so, despite the large amount of money involved, she turned down the chance to bid. There were some who were unhappy with such a status quo, but there was little they could do with the Sultana alive; she was popular. Overthrowing her was not enough; she had to be assassinated.

The Rebel Alliance was blamed, turning the populace against the Rebels and putting them firmly in the Imperial camp. General Ziroth Adari was made the governor of Tengaru, publicly reluctant to take up the role, privately eager to sell Tengaru to the Empire for his own enrichment. On the advice of Kels Lande, Adari quickly made economic 'reforms' that turned the industries of Tengaru into sweat shops, practically slave labor camps. With the assistance of the Empire, he was able to establish an authoritarian dictatorship over the planet and quashed dissent while he and a circle of conspirators, industrial business types, made lots and lots of money.

The problem was that the Sultana was not dead, and she was no pampered noble, with just a title and a lot of money. She had a ruthless streak and a will to avenge herself, as well as to liberate the system her family ruled benevolently for centuries. With the assistance of Rebel Intelligence, she faked her own death to put the likes of Adari and Lande at ease. The Rebellion could only do so much to support her in the fight; they set her up with a couple squadrons of starfighters and an Intelligence Special Operations mission group, codenamed KOWAKIAN, but the brunt of the fight would have to be carried on through her own considerable resources. The royal family, as it turned out, had money and assets covertly stashed away for just an event, along with the infrastructure to support an insurgency in the event of a coup. There were citizens of Tengaru loyal to the Sultana still, but they wouldn't be enough to fight supporters of General Adari and the Empire at the same time -- she needed more.

On the advice of Shal Brey'ey, a paraplegic Bothan veteran of Clone Wars-era covert operations that was hired as a second opinion outside that of the Rebel Alliance's Special Operations advisors, the Sultana put out the word in smuggler's ports and other fringe worlds, from Mos Eisley to Nar Shadaa, that she was hiring bounty hunters, mercenaries and other sorts; an army of scum and villainy, intended to fight a guerrilla war to take back her system. Not everyone in the Alliance is happy with this solution, but the Sultana is in charge of the Rebellion's presence in her sector. Perhaps because she has a flare for the dramatic, she's called these beings her 'army of scorpions, here to sting Tengaru's enemies." Interestingly, the Scorpion is the symbol of Tengaru's royal family.

Out of Character Info:

The characters would be various elements of this "Army of Scum and Villainy." Bounty Hunters, mercenaries, smugglers and other fringers. These people are possibly in it for the money, possibly in it for the ideas, or maybe they want to make money and kick the Empire in the dannybags. For whatever reason, they've signed on. On the other hand, the Rebel Alliance is supporting Jys Akende's operation, though Shal Brey'ey sort of pulled a fait accompli on high command by setting this up; she figured it was easier to beg for forgiveness than to ask for permission. The Alliance has a Special Operations Mission Group in-system, to handle agents, logistics and the dissemination of intelligence, though also to act in a limited fashion in the field as well. They are, however, heavily augmented by the Sultana's freelancers. It's entirely possible, also, that there might be a starfighter squadron or two involved, but Starfighter Command and the Alliance Fleet are stretched thin, so it might not be always possible to count on such support...the characters will find that they are often on their own and improvising.

The storyline would center around a group of operatives in this "Army of Scum and Villainy," perhaps on one of the Sultana's so-called "Scorpion Teams." These teams are patterned after the Rebel Alliance's Special Operations Division in that they have a broad mission objective; fuck with the Empire. Sabotage, piracy, assassination, hacking, theft and all manner of things are allowed (though outright terrorism against civilians is not -- military and political targets only, per the Rebel Alliance's charter.) These teams rack up the pay according to the types of targets and operations they carry out and how significant they are. The Sultana has a lot of money and a grudge; the Alliance has a considerable intelligence network and can provide information...but what is needed is muscle; the characters and those like them.

Also, since this is a war storyline, we can always have the characters of the players who leave offed and make room for new arrivals to the Sector and the Sultana's private war.

Multiple characters are allowed -- just be sure you can handle the load and make the characters different in personalities; this isn't a Clone Wars plot, after all. For example, if you want to have an assassin droid and an owner (say in the vein of Revan/Exile and HK-47), I'm all for it. If you want to play the crew of a small ship, go for it. A small group of mercenaries led by the main character? Sure. I just ask that there be some friction/differentiation between characters and they aren't Frick and Frack, Heckle and Jekyll...Tomax and Xamot. You get the idea.

For running the RP, I intend to share the GM responsibility a bit -- this is a collaborative process and while I have specific ideas on plot points, I want others to feel free to propose scenarios and quest-items and so forth, as well as to play the role of the antagonists (there will be many and varied) and to add to developing the setting our characters will be playing in. We should, above all, feel invested in this RP together and share a collective sense of ownership and interest in keeping the plot lively and, above all, awesome. On the other hand, I'll retain the ability to settle disputes as the thread owner, but I'm hoping we don't come to that.
