Welcome to the Wild West.

First a little mood setting music:

Backstory:
June 1883, the Wild West is in full swing. The nefarious outlaw Jesse James was gunned down one year and two months ago and the West is open for the next great outlaw. The area just around the border is a center for everything great and terrible about the West. Ranchers herd their cattle to rivers to drink, bandits ransack trains, rob banks, topple carriages and steal horses, bounty hunters then track down these outlaws and bring them to justice.

Any man can make a living here, only if of course they have the necessary skills to avoid being shot in the back and tossed in a shallow grave in the middle of nowhere. The place is a constant danger to unwary travelers, the smartest decision one can make in this territory is to always carry a weapon on them, whether it be a revolver or a knife. Nefarious outlaws wander the land, carrying on them crime and cash payment for them to be brought to justice.

Map:

- The black lines are railroads, players may jump on trains to travel quickly around the map.
- The brown lines are the roads, simple dirt roads but still roads.
- The blue lines are rivers, often you will see farmers herd their cattle to these.
- The green areas are forests, inside of these may be animals which you may hunt and skin or even outlaws who set up camp deep in the forest.
- The black dots are the towns/outposts.

The towns/outposts in depth: Buildings in the Wild West were primarily made of durable wood, due to the high temperatures and humidity, fires were common.

Canaan - The largest of the towns, it has a bank and a population of around 4000 people. The town's layout is like that of any other Wild Western town. It has a high Mexican population dude to being right near the border. A large bank, a railroad station, a schoolhouse, multiple general stores, three saloons, multiple gun stores, a famous brothel, houses, a sheriff's office with a jail and a large hotel.

Bethlehem - The second largest of the towns in the area, it has a population of around 2500 with a bank. The town consists of a bank, railroad station, schoolhouse, three general stores, a saloon, one gun store, a brothel, houses, a sheriff's office with a jail and two hotels.

Gold Springs - The third largest town, it is a mining town with a population of 1500, majority of the men here work as miners. It consists of a bank, railroad station, schoolhouse, two general stores, a saloon, one gun store, a sheriff's office with a jail, a hotel and the mining center.

SweetWater - The fourth largest town with a population of just under 1000. It is a common place which travelers go through, because of this, there are more stores and hotels. The town consists of bank, railroad station, schoolhouse, four general stores, three saloons, three gun stores, two brothels, houses, a sheriff's office with a jail and three hotels. It is also the only town in the area that has a Federal Courthouse in it.

Buffalo Gulch - Not really a town as much as a place known notoriously for hosting outlaws and criminals. It sits far northwest away from every other place for good reason. There's low law enforcement here, if someone kills another then that person is either shot quickly or the murder is ignored, depending on the people involved. It has a population of around 500 people. This place has two general stores, two saloons, one gun store, three brothels, makeshift houses and two hotels.

Fort Hadley - An abandoned military fort, it has since been taken over by settlers looking for a place to find refuge from the cruel West. The outpost has a population of around 350 people. Inside the fort is a general store, a saloon, a gun store and a hotel. People live in rooms inside the fort.

Bounty list: As of right now. there are five wanted criminals on the bounty list for this area. Each of these criminals are wanted dead or alive. Payment may increase if the criminals are brought in alive, though some of them may have equal bounties dead or alive. Over time, wanted criminals will be added and removed from the list as the story progresses. Player characters may find themselves on the list if they decide to commit numerous nefarious deeds.

Rules:
1. No godmodding. Your character is a normal human being, no superpowers, etc.
2. Romance, comedy, drama, all that stuff will be in this RP. Please don’t take the romance past PG13 while in the IC, any further and you take it to messages.
3. Proper grammar is needed to participate in this RP.
4. No one liners, please try to post at least a paragraph each IC post. If you are in dialogue with another RPer’s character, then do a collab and put that in your post.
5. Be respectful and kind to your fellow RPers in the OOC. Don’t be an asshole.
6. For now, I am limiting each person to one character in the RP, maybe later on I will allow you to have more characters.
7. Your character can die, usually only if you try something really stupid in the IC, such as charging at 40 armed men with just a dagger.
8. I am always open to suggestions to improve the RP for all involved, PM me if you have any ideas or suggestions. This isn't just my RP, it's all those that join its too.
9. Have fun. PM me any questions or concerns.

Character Sheet:
Username -
Character Name -
Nickname - (if any)
Age - (18 - 50)
Occupation - (Bounty hunter, outlaw, sheriff, etc. Use your imagination.)
Gender -
Height -
Weight -
Appearance - (Pictures or explanation, or both)
Clothing -
Starting location -
Skills - (What is your character good at?)
Weaknesses - (What is your character bad at? Also includes injuries, diseases, etc.)
Weaponry - (From the items you can select)
Equipment - (Non weaponry your character has. Things such as water canteens, a horse, etc.)
Personality -
Biography - (Doesn't have to be too long)

Weaponry: These are the weapons available to your character in the RP, any weapon that has “Selectable” (in bold) next to it is one you can choose for your character when you do your character sheet. You will be able to find all these weapons in the RP.

Revolvers:
Colt 45 – (Selectable) The signature weapon of the Wild West, when people think of the Wild West, they think of this gun. It is very common and all around useful. It is a six shot revolver.
Bull Dog – (Selectable) British made, imported over from Europe. Small enough to conceal in a pocket, it is less common than the Colt 45. It is a five shot revolver.
LeMat – A rare firearm in the West, it is very powerful at close range and medium to far as it is a hybrid of a shotgun and revolver. The top barrel fired .42 bullets in a 9 shot cylinder, the bottom barrel fires buckshot.

Rifles:
Winchester 1873 – (Selectable) A common lever action repeater rifle associated with the Wild West. These are wide spread and for good reason, they are strong and reliable.
Spencer Rifle – (Selectable) Another lever action rifle, it is similar to the Winchester except that it is shorter and lighter.
Colt Revolving Rifle – This less common rifle is like a revolver in rifle form, it is powerful, accurate and reliable.

Shotguns:
Coach Gun – (Selectable) An extremely potent weapon at close range, this double barrel shotgun will leave a hole in anyone or anything unlucky enough to be shot by it. These are common among coach guards, which is where the name comes from.
Blunderbuss - A muzzle loaded firearm, it is less common among those in the West, but it still can be found. It is a powerful weapon at close range, it would be considered an early version of the shotgun.

Melee weaponry:
Dagger – (Selectable) Carried by many, these are useful for those you want to stab who are right next to you. Just don’t try to charge someone who has a gun with it, that doesn’t tend to end well.
Sabre – (Selectable) Leftover from the Civil War, these swords can be found across the West. One who is skilled in the art of swordfighting is not someone you want to face in melee range.
Machete – An import from South America, these crude and brutal blades can easily slice off limbs.

Throwing weaponry: A maximum of five throwing knives can be equipped to your character at the start of the RP.
Throwing knifes – (Selectable) Small but deadly if in trained hands. These are silent and great if they hit a vital area on the opponent’s body.
Tomahawks – Great for chopping or tossing at someone’s skull, these are found on Indian’s in the area or may occasionally be bought from merchants.

Other weaponry: These are not classified with the other weapons.
Bow and Arrow – Still used by some Indians, this perfectly silent weapon is deadly in skilled hands. Arrows have to be created, found or retrieved.
Gatling gun – Sometimes found in random areas, these large lumbering guns are rolled around to be used. Leftover from the Civil War.

Stuff to be added to the OOC:
- A map.
- Explanations of the towns and the area.
- My own player character.
- Notable NPCs and factions. Also a most wanted list with bounties.
- An IC.

The accepted character list may be found on this thread. Once your character has been accepted, post the sheet onto that thread.

My own character's sheet.

Character Sheet:
Username - Heat
Character Name - Barrett Ford
Nickname - "The Artist"
Age - 27
Occupation - Bounty hunter
Gender - Male
Height - 6 feet even
Weight - 170 pounds
Appearance -

Clothing - He wears the sames clothing as in the picture. A black cowboy hate, a brown leather duster, a red collared shirt, black pants and black cowboy boots. There's a pistol holster on his belf and a holster for his shotgun on his back.
Starting location - Buffalo Gulch
Skills - He's an excellent shot with his pistol and shotgun, having used them for years. He's also a solid hand to hand combatant, able to brutally take another man down with little trouble.
Weaknesses - He can't swim, if he's in water deeper than he can stand in then he's screwed.
Weaponry - A coach shotgun, colt 45 and a dagger.
Equipment - A canteen full of fresh water, a deck of playing cards, a bag for his money, his horse Rio and a pair of dice.
Personality - Barrett is a little crazy from all the things he's seen, yet he's been around long enough to know how to survive out here in the West. He considers himself a funny guy and will often crack jokes about whatever situation he is in. He is considered extremely ruthless as he will do whatever it takes to get the job done, when he's chasing down a bounty, hes not afraid to take down anyone who gets in his way.
Biography - Barrett Ford was born to his mother and father in West Texas, his father was a soldier, a respected one who fought in many battles against the Indians. His mother worked in the saloon as a waitress. His father wasn't home very much, but when he was, Barrett liked to spend time with his son as he was the only child of his parents. He had a normal childhood, finishing school and taking a job as a miner in a nearby town where his mother and father lived.

His life seemed like a normal one until a mining accident occurred, part of the mine caved in, crushing eighteen men, killing all of them. Barrett himself just barely avoided getting crushed and watched his best friend die terribly. From that point on, at age 17, he decided to give up being a miner. His family disagreed, but Barrett had convinced himself. After hearing many rich stories about legendary bounty hunters and outlaws, he decided to head West, ready to become a bounty hunter.

For the last ten years that's what he has done. He's earned himself a reputation as one of the premiere bounty hunters in the area, amassing a good amount of money and fame. He currently lives in Buffalo Gulch, ironically the place most known for being where the people he'd get paid to look for would hide. Barrett realized this early on, which is why he lives there. If anyone is stupid enough to flee there, Barrett will be there waiting.

Username - Assallya
Character Name - Yasmine Torres
Nickname - None as of yet
Age - 21
Occupation - Harlot
Gender - Female
Height - 5'1"
Weight - 108 lbs.
Clothing - Yasmine wears very little, letting her clients see what she offers, often while hanging from a window. What she does wear is most often tight to accentuate her curves as opposed to the wide petticoats of a proper lady which encourage a man to chaste thoughts.
Starting location - Buffalo Gulch
Skills - Carousing, plotting,
Weaknesses - Any sort of combat
Weaponry - One good knife inside of thigh
Equipment - None
Personality - Yasmine has experienced a lot of loss in her short life. As a result she's become rather cynical. She does, however, have a soft spot for nearly any man who claims he adores her. For him she'd do anything. Unfortunately, most men see that as an opportunity to get a quick tumble for free and she keeps falling for it.
Biography - Yasmine was born in Mexico and grew up around brigands and all manner of unruly sorts and her small town was home to two bandit gangs in particular.. When the policia ran through the town to collect the gangs shooting was wild and fairly indiscriminate. Generally, any who lived in the town were considered accomplices. Her entire village gone, the houses fired, Yasmine barely escaped with her life. She wandered for days in the desert until she was picked up by some merchants who gave her water and took her to the nearest town.

Near penniless in a strange town and unsure if the policia were looking for her Yasmine had little choice but to use the last of her money to hire a coach and travelled north. There, with no money at all left, she turned to whoring. She has been doing so for a year when one of her "clients" told her of his love and desire to marry her. She moved with him to Buffalo Gulch where he promptly dumped her in favour of another strumpet. She has been whoring there ever since.

Post it on the character sheet page.

A prostitute could be an interesting character, especially in a near lawless place like Buffalo Gulch.

Well, I had considered having a map and a matching tattoo that together would find some lost gold that me ol' pa, one of those banditos I mentioned, had gathered during his crooked life.

I figured that was a bit over the top :)

A little, but I'm sure you could have a great character who tries to become the head of Buffalo Gulch or something, I'll leave it up to you to decide where you want to take the character. ;)

May I ask why the weaponry is so limited? If you like I can supply a pretty good list of weapons that were created during that year.

Those were the weapons I found right off the abtou while googling weaponry during that time period.

I'll happily see your list and see if I can add the stuff from it to the OOC weaponry list.

I should point out that the LeMat revolver doesn't fire exclusively buckshot as far as I know. It has a nine round cylinder AND a seconday barrel which contains the single buckshot round. How one fires the second round or how one reloads tbe buckshot I do not know. That information wasn't in the postapocalyptic book I was reading.

It was on some site I checked for gun information and Wikipedia. Maybe I got it mixed up.

*grins* I don't claim to be an expert either. I've looked the LeMat up on Wikipedia after reading Deathlands. The novels features Dr. Tanner who wielded one.

I also like quick loaders, volcano guns and pepperboxes.
--Volcano guns were more accurate and powerful then their revolver counterparts and are reminiscent of miniature lever action rifles.
--Pepperbox pistols and rifles have one barrel for each round and are mostly break action like a shotgun and are known for their inaccuracy, stunning rate of fire and horrible reload times.
Quick Loaders, which I learned about playing "Gun" for the Xbox, are revolvers that feature a break action that pops out the entire cylinder. You then pop in an entirely new, fully loaded, cylinder. Very fast to reload but the break action portion tends to make the gun more fragile and less accurate.

It's also important to note that this is the era of "The Gunsmith". This was the last era where a lone craftsman could craft a legendary weapon. All you have to do is look at the "palmloads" of the era to see what the zany gunsmiths of that era were capable of.

Check this link out.... It demonstrates how innovative they were back then.
