Background: Swims-With-Pride was the youngest of the three children born to his mother, Sings-In-Rain, and father, Walks-Over-Mountains. They were merchants who owned a general store in Leyawiin. As such, Swims found that his life was fairly boring early on. He did not take to the merchants' trade like his older brother and sister, so he always felt out of place in his family. As a result, he always found himself looking elsewhere to keep himself entertained whenever he had the free time.
Early in life, he found a friend in another adventurous soul named Veria. Like himself, she enjoyed exploration, and was always willing to take on a challenge. Both of their families came to know one another simply through their mutual desire to keep their children out of trouble: something they found themselves in quite often. Eventually, Swims and Veria decided that they wanted to become a pair of adventurers, and started working towards that goal. Swims split his time between working in his parents' shop to earn gold, and the fighters' and mages' guilds for training. Once the pair had earned enough to pay for their equipment, and felt they had received enough training, they decided it was time for them to begin their adventuring career, unaware of exactly how much danger they were stepping into.
