[OOC] Moonstruck [Mako's Mermaids][Closed]

Whether you've seen H20: Just Add Water or not, that's okay, just know that this role play idea is greatly inspired by the show and even borrows some of the landmark names. This is just to see if there would be any interest.

Setting: Fictional small town, near the sea where there is a mysterious island called "Mako Island"

Small bit of the plot 4 girls visit a mysterious island and end up with mermaid abilities. This role play will be how they handle this. There will be adventure, romance and drama!

Longer Plot

Four girls who do not know each other very well and are very different from each other come together when a class assignment leaves them stranded on the mysterious Mako Island. They are taking a class on the environment and are tasked with testing the water quality around the Island. Their boat breaks down and they paddle to the Island and try to call for help, but they can not get cell phone signal, so they decide to get to higher ground, to see if that would help.

Things at this point start to get really weird. While walking around on the island one of the girls falls into a hole in the ground that leads to an underground cavern that is actually the bottom of an inactive volcano.

Inside the volcano is the most beautiful looking pool of water that leads out to the ocean. The other girls follow when the first girl tells them they have to see this amazing cavern. The walls are covered with little blue pebbles that look like crystals, the water is glittering blue and seems magical. They are in awe of it but soon realize they are in a bit of trouble. There are bubbles forming on the surface of the pool, so one of the girls figure it is connected to the rest of the ocean.




They jump in the water and just as they do, the full moon passes over the opening in the volcano the light shines down on them, making it look like they are trapped in a beam of light. The water around them starts to bubble and they are transfixed as the bubbles start to swirl around them and up toward the opening in the volcano. Unbeknown to the girls, Mako Island just bestrode them the spirits of mermaids.

For the first 24 hours, nothing is different, but the first time they get wet after it has been 24 hours... they find out they are mermaids. Only when they are dry do they get their legs back.

To start each player will play a girl, one of the mermaids. After the girls get settled, we can discuss the possibility of adding some romance drama into their lives. So we are clear, this role play is LBGT friendly, so there can be F/F if you want your character to be part of a F/F romance. Just let me know! Please share any ideas, suggestions that you may have for the role play.

(Her top is the same as in the picture as well. It is made from the same stuff the tail is made from and can not be removed while in mermaid form. It looks similar to a bikini top to the untrained eye.)

Power: She has the power to manipulate water, move it, shape it, control it.

Bio: Nixie has always grown up fascinated with Mako Island. She and her family have picnics there once a year on the beach, but her parents are not aware that she visits the island more often than that. One of her friends owns a boat, so she talks them into taking her every chance she gets. This year at school, she and three of her classmates are assigned to do an environment report for one of their classes. The teacher wants them to check the water quality near the mysterious Mako Island. Her friend can't take them, so she borrows his boat, unaware that they had been doing maintenance on it earlier. As they get closer to the island, the boat dies and they have to paddle the rest of the way to the beach. The girls try to get cell phone reception, but need to find higher ground.

What they find instead is the bottom of the volcano that is now this amazing looking cavern that has crystals all over it's walls and a breathtaking pool of water that leads out into the ocean. Getting in that pool changes their lives forever.

Other: She is bisexual and leans toward liking other girls, though hasn't told anyone and isn't sure she ever will since where she lives is so close nit, everyone would know. Their coastal town is like any other place, some people are all for the LGBT and some people are not, but that's life. Her movie star crush is Emma Watson and Demi Lovato. Demi is her favorite singer. She is a Harry Potter lover, lover of old Disney and Nickelodeon shows, adores animation and is a bookworm. She is also interested in animals and wishes to work with them in some way and is very serious about keeping the environment clean.

She has a younger brother who is 6 and an older sister who is 17. She and her family live at the lighthouse.

“Mom!” Jamie yelled. He was throwing all his clothes around the room, looking frantically for his new Superman T-Shirt. It was really cool and it even matched his underwear, not that he would tell anyone that. “Where is my shirt? It was just here! I’m going to be late for school.” He ran toward his bedroom door and yelled again. His poor mother was at her wits end. She held her infant daughter on her hip and was trying to get her six year old adopted daughter from Japan to eat her cereal. Her husband had already left for work, leaving her a messy house… as usual.

“James Alexander!” Susan Patton yelled. “I’m trying to get Aya to eat and the baby is crying. Can’t you wear any old shirt?” She sighed, dropping the spoon into the bowl of milk. Aya was still not used to them and could barely speak English. The poor girl. Her husband had a job high in power, so it had been easy for them to get the adoption to go through, but Susan hoped their chaotic household would not scar the girl.

“No!” Jamie pouted. Why did they have to get another sister? They already had the baby for goodness sakes! The eleven-year old pulled at his curly red hair and groaned in frustration. Being a kid was hard. “I need the Superman one. Everyone will think I’m cool,” he whined.

“Aya, food,” Susan said. “Please eat. I know it is hard to understand us, but it will be okay soon.” Aya would be starting a multilingual kindergarten who would help her learn more English. Finally, Aya started to pick at her cereal.

“Thank you.” Susan left the girl in the kitchen and went to Jamie’s bedroom. She walked over to his dresser, bent down and picked up a shirt, throwing it at her son’s head.

“I looked there!” Jamie said, his eyes wide in amazement.

“Mom magic,” Susan answered. “Get dressed. We have to get you and Aya to school.”

“Hi!” Jamie ran into his classroom, giving his friends high fives. He and the others went to their seats and waited for their teacher to start class. Things were different today, because there was a new kid.

“Dylan, you can share Jamie’s table. Jamie will you show Dylan around today?”

“Sure!” Jamie answered, waving at the new boy, ushering him to the empty seat next to him. “Hi. I’m Jamie. Do you like super heroes? Who is your favorite?”

Iris lives with her twin brother Cameron, her mother and her father in an average three bedroom house. There’s nothing special about the family. Her mother is a stay at home mum, her father works at a restaurant as the head chef. The two siblings work there as wait staff. At school, Iris falls in the middle ground of classes. She doesn’t fail but she doesn’t excel, except for maths class, where she does extremely well.

Elliott rolled out of bed a full hour after he was supposed to with a groan, his eyes still glued together by sleep as he slammed his hand on the alarm on his bedside table for the umpteenth time. He yawned, heading into the shower. Ordinarily, he would just go back to bed but he had plans and if he didn’t stick to them, Noah would kill him. He had blown off far too many plans lately and this was a big one he knew he couldn’t miss. Standing in the warm shower, Elliott wondered how he had been persuaded to go camping in the first place. He wasn’t exactly the active type any more, preferring instead to stay indoors and glued to electronics and Wi-Fi. Rubbing shampoo through his hair and soap over his skin, he quickly finished off his shower and stepped out. No matter about that now. It was too late to back out.

Dressing quickly and warmly, he pulled on his walking boots and scooped up the heavy backpack of equipment before locking up his dorm room and heading down to his car. Noah and Bethany were at a different university campus altogether and he would be meeting them at the campsite they’d chosen. Stuffing his things in the boot of his car, Elliott programmed his sat-nav and set off. The woods were a good hour and a half away from his campus so he was certain the other two were already there.

The car ride was dull and uneventful. There was almost no one on the road at six am in the morning but that made things much easier on his sleepy mind. As he expected, Noah and his half-sister were there and waiting, leaning against their car. Bethany looked as pretty as ever, even without the usual make up she wore. There was no need for it when they went camping. Elliott parked up, getting out and retrieving his things. “Morning guys…” He greeted with a sheepish little smile. “I know. I’m late.”

“We knew you would be. We’ve only just gotten here ourselves.” Noah grinned cheekily. The only time Elliot was ever on time was when Noah told him an earlier time than when they were meant to meet up.

Elliott swore softly under his breath, realising what had happened. He yawned, slinging the backpack onto his shoulders. “Where are we going then?” He asked, hoping they didn’t have to hike too far. The morning mist still hung in the air and he wasn’t sure how easy it would be to hike in such poor visibility.

“This way.” Bethany led the way, navigating with practiced ease. She was the youngest but she was their best navigator, naturally skilled with a map and a compass. “It’s not too far. About fifteen minutes away if I’ve done my calculations correctly.” Elliott groaned but nodded and followed. “Shush, Ell. It’s not that far. You’re lucky Noah won the rock paper scissors game. I would have chosen a spot way further in.”

Bio: Andrea was born into a small family, her mother works as an elementary school teacher and her father works as a marine biologist. She has an older sister who is in college she only sees her over the summers when she comes and visits they are very close Andrea is an average student her worse subject is math but excels in history. In her spare time Andrea usually is seen either shopping or enjoying her time at the beach, she also has a passion for music and usually sings and plays guitar. She is also seen as a nerd as well enjoying video games and books Andrea also works part time as a babysitter when she isn't working she is always seen with her friends.

Audrey sat in the back seat of a mustang quietly looking out through her sunglasses out of the window having to be required wear sunglasses to hide her eyes from the sun so that no one would see them unnaturally red when the sun hit them, when she was inside they would be back to their normal human color. In the two front seats were two other vampires one of them was a female she wore a black leather jacket along with a black tshirt under it along with tight leather pants her name was Karla. The one who was driving was named Carlos who was also the man who turned her into a vampire. "We are just scouting out the area is all so don't worry we will get you home at a decent time." Karla said turning to look at the red head sitting in the back. "I don't have to be home early it's summer and my family has gone out to visit some friends." Audrey said with a shrug of her shoulders.

When the car came to a stop outside of the woods Carlos turned off the car and then Karla got out of the front seat pulling it down for Audrey to come out next. Audrey took a moment to relax looking towards the setting sun feeling more of her new found strength coming back to her, the redhead looked towards her maker for a moment he pulled out a map of the area with a few marked places. "We got a few sightings of wolves in the area, all we need to do for the clan is to go to each of the locations and see if theres any markings that they have made. And since Audrey here is from the area you get to go look in the north i'm sure you know the area better then any of us."

Carlos said with a smile."I know the woods very well, I guess i'm going alone then?" Audrey asked taking off her glasses putting them in her pocket. "Yes, though we trained you and you are really strong so you can handle yourself I think." Carlos said looking towards Karla pointing towards the east having not killed anyone before except for her first feeding where she killed a homeless man, she never killed unless it was self defense.

"You go east, and i'll take the north. We meet back here in two hours." Carlos said putting the map back in his car and locked it then both of them headed their separate ways leaving Audrey alone by herself to head towards the north.A few minutes as Audrey walked through the woods she could hear loud howls in the distance the cool summer air touching her already cold skin, she could get the smell of wet dogs in the distance.

Since we've got everyone for the role play, I'm going to start laying down a little ground rules.

1. This will be a high casual - low advanced role play. The minimum requirement is a good solid 3 paragraphs (or the equivalent.)

2. Posting speed. While I'd love for this to be very active (once a day posting), I know we all have lives outside role playing and some of us have several role plays, so please try to strive for posting at least once a week, more is great. Do not post back to back. Wait for at least 2 players before you post again. Be aware of each other and do not leave anyone too far behind. We are all most likely on different time zones.

3. Feel free to post in OOC often! Share any ideas you have.

Since this world has mermaids, I'll consider other mythological elements in the future. But before you decide to bring in a "name element" post your idea in the OOC and everyone can vote on it. If the voting is a tie, I'll will decide which way to go.

As far as romance, action and drama. What does everyone want. I know some people crave romance. I know I get bored if there is not "some" romance. I would like to let any romance happen naturally, though. I'm pro LBGT. Show of hands; is everyone okay with that? Because my character may be bisexual. I did not mention this, but I'm going to add it to her CS once I hear back from everyone. With all romance, keep to the rules of this forum. The main focus will be the 4 as they build their friendship and figure out how to survive in a world where a single drop of water will turn them into a "freak" of nature and get them sent to a science lab for testing.

If you are using a NPC a lot, list that person's name and details in your CS, so we can have a list of who we have. Each person are in charge of their families NPCs. School NPCs and random towns people NPCs are for everyone to control.

Bio:
Losing his wife early into his daughters life, Damon worked hard to raise his three sons and his daughter as best he could providing them with whatever he could. Growing up in Australia with three older brothers, Tristan learnt from a young age how to look after and defend herself. Hanging out with the guys helped her to grow into a beautiful, confident young lady. Wanting to do her best and help her family in anyway she could, Tris threw herself into her studies, raising her grades so that she could make her father proud. Managing to transfer into a great school, Tris and her family packed their bags saying goodbye to their family and friends before heading off for a great opportunity. That's when she found out about Mako island.

Getting put into a group at school for an assignment; her and three other classmates borrow a boat heading out to the island to gather data for their environmental report. Getting closer to the island they began having troubles; the boat dying causing the group to have to paddle out to the island and make their way onto the beach. While looking to try and get a signal so they could call for help they stumble upon an mysterious cavern hidden at the bottom of a dormant volcano; seeing no other way out the four girls get into the pool, changing their lives forever.
