Slower paced Shonen adventure?

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to play around with the Shonen genre with me, with us trying to make the characters and heroes' progress more realistic in pace and hopefully keep thing challenging instead of one shotting the earth as a whole. We would all start with a young man of ten to thirteen years of age and go from there, going through Shonen to hopefully Seinen territory later on.

The plot is still vague in my head, so any interest and help is appreciated, if even to chuck in a character concept that would fit that you had been craving to try! The pace would be a bit like a video game, with short interconnecting stories full of action mingled with slower paced character development and training periods making arcs ending with a 'Boss', the later being in gangs that would make seasons once all the gang have been defeated and/or befriended.

I'd be making a girl, Shounen nowadays have badass girls, so yeah I can make this character be the rival type of character as oppose to the boy and develop well.

Power wise, I personally think it is best to start with no or little powers at all, we settle things with smarts and fists.

Story wise, it should be not cliche lol, make it more wow factor kinda like Akame Ga Kill or Attack on Titan but not to gory, Shounen territory still.

Hmm I could get into this if maybe you had a more concrete plot. Do you have any ideas? Like a set universe or set limitations? Anything at all to give us a sense of what the world would have to offer us?

Yeah, what type of verse is this? Earth? Other planets? Altered Earth? Yeah we need to know the concepts and more plot, I'm all for it!

The best way to determine the verse is by making the character first then your mind will open to determine what verse.

Are we Soul Repaers.a are we Ninjas? Are we Saiyans? This is an example, what are we? Obvious is human but what are we called? These are the questions that will arise.

I agree, and am up for suggestions, but for now I think that we can go two route; the usual Shounen route with physical combat or the altered route of psychological combat, or we can go for broke with a mix of the two.

If you want to truly epitomize the shounen genre, the main character needs to have spiky hair. The more absurd, the better.

Now, I got a basic origin for these little brats we will go around creating eventually, should this get enoughapproval, this will be the basisof the plot and setting.

The start goes as this: Otherwordly Clockwork, with a mix of Lovecraftian inner voice and mechas made of the scrap heap. Our boys (and some of them will actually be girls) will be orphans abandoned at birth in what is called the Ragdoll Ophanage, a desolate place where strange and bodiless beings dwell, taking care of infants in exchange for merging with their lifeforce and thus become truely alive inside their host body. Some are benings in temperaments, some are malicious, but all are unknown in their true intentions. So the Orphanage is actually an old scrapheap in the world this take place, and parts found withing can be learned about and used to make all manners of things, with daily edible trash used as food.

The matter is that once each host reach the start of their puberty they feel agreat urge to leave, the inabitants of the Orphanage becoming sinister and worriying to them. Since our characters just reached puberty themselves, it will be time for them to leave and do whatever we choose as a first plot hook.

Would that be an interesting base for you all, or should I try again? Tweaking is fine with me, so don't hesitate to nay it or suggest changes.

Also, of course there will be flahy spiky hair involved somehow!

So, power wise... what will it be like? what type of powers will we have? Elements? Illusions? Mecha? etc..

Mecha for physical and otherwordly mental powers for the more subtle battles.

Steampunk Mechs and Psychics? That's the vibe I'm getting from this, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

What's the world like outside the Orphanage?

I see it as fairly barren, save for high-tech and gilded cities of massive proportions.
