Welcome
to the universe...

The Supreme Cosmic Entity is at it again, stitching together the fabric for a brand new universe. With every pass of the cosmic needle the universe comes that much closer to completion, but before then there's one little thing that must not be forgotten: bringing in a pantheon to keep an eye on the thing!

This is where you come in. The Not-So-Supreme Cosmic Entities, you've been called in to oversee the latest in the SCE's grand collection. As gods, you'll be responsible for the stability of the universe, seeing to any tears in the fabric and generally trying to keep the ol' Supreme Cosmic Stick-Up-the-Butt off your case. But, as they say, with great responsibility comes great power (or something like that). You've got free run to do whatever you want, so why not do what all gods do best: smiting mortals!

Oh, but it looks like there are no mortals here to smite. Guess you'll have to put some of that Nigh-Infinite Divine Power to use setting some things up first.

Who are you?
Somebody important, I bet

What is a god? I'm sure we could get very philosophical answering this question, but this isn't Navel Gazing 101 so we're going to skip that whole conversation and go straight to the meat of it. You are a being of pure cosmic awesome: you may be old, you may be new, but regardless of age you are bigger, stronger, smarter, more magical than literally anything that isn't another god. Keeping universes is your bread and butter; it's literally why you exist. Do note that though gods are infinite, the universes they maintain are not. This may not be your first universe, and chances are good it won't be your last. Some of you may even already be acquainted with each other from previous gigs! Hopefully that's not too awkward. Imagine running into a coworker you didn't like and thought you'd never see again, yeesh.

Gods come in many forms! Some gods look like people! Some gods look like spiders! Some gods look like an all-encompassing abyss of your every failure and shattered dreams! Some gods look like kittens! If you can imagine it, and sometimes even if you can't imagine it, it can be a god. Don't... try not to go too crazy with that. A gold robot with laser eyes and a bad comb-over is one thing, but a 12.6-dimensional omniwolf made of legos and swiss cheese is stretching things a bit.

Welcome
to the... world?

Gods have free run of an entire universe. That's a lot of space! Often, gods rarely even have to see each other most of the time, much less interact in any meaningful way.

Unfortunately, due to the economy and a series of budget cuts, the SCE is working small today. This universe consists of the Sun, which doubles as the SCE's base of command, and one single habitable planet. Creating stuff, especially big stuff like an entire 'nother planet, is a lot of work that nobody wants to do, so you're all gonna have to stake your claims on this one little world. If you're quick, you might even be able to get an entire continent to yourself!

The Phases of Creation
Only gods last forever

This roleplay will have phases. They're pretty basic though, so don't worry too much about them. Here's how the order is going to go:

  • Creation: In this phase, all the big stuff is gonna happen. Altering the landscape to suit your needs, adding little quirks and concepts to the world, making myths, what-ever. At this point mortals do not exist, and they will continue to not exist until the next phase. You are free to lay the groundwork for your race, e.g. sculpting bodies out of clay or preparing other animals to be raised to sentience, but nothing with more than an animal level of intelligence will exist during this phase.

  • Dawn of Civilization: This is the real meat of the story right here. At this point, the SCE will allow gods to imbue their creations with intelligence, and you will be free to guide your race however you like. Heroes will appear, nations will rise and fall, and through it all the gods will be working in their mysterious ways. At this point it is very likely that you will develop multiple characters, perhaps a champion of your god, or another notable mortal. You can do pretty much whatever you want, keeping in mind that the Age of Creation is over and done with, but please for the love of SCE if you're going to go all Zeus and Leda on one of your mortals just fade to black.

  • Armageddon: The final phase, this is the point where the threads that once held creation together begin to unravel. Guide the mortals to a dignified end, or watch them squirm as the world is consumed in fire and ice. Keep an eye out, however: if there are holes appearing in the universe, there's always the possibility of something sneaking through them...

And that's it
For now...

That is the whole thing right there. So! Ask some questions, let me know if you're interested, and I'll put up a character template or something later and if there's enough interest we'll go build a world.

This... This sounds awesome.

When I manage recollect my thoughts, I'll hopefully have something more notable to say. Right now, my mind is focusing all of its attention on running wild with this idea.

Tatsua Aiisen, you have never failed. I always consider it a privilege to be able to be in the same roleplay as you~

Edit:

I'm assuming that we all are just like most monotheistic gods: omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient divine deities whose only differences are what they look like and what they are called.
But, I may be wrong and so permit me to ask:
Do we "Not-So-Supreme Cosmic Entities" favor a specific domain? For a fairly standard if not cliche example, the "Cosmic Entity of Fire and War" or such.

Or do we perhaps all have equally powerful omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience (minus, of course, the fairly supreme SCE), and any mention of being in charge of a specific domain is simply because our sentient raccoon worshipers just happen to think that we like that sort of thing,

I'm considering making a Djinn-like Goddess, mainly because that's something that might interest me more than, say, a generic war god with a funny hat.

gods will all have particular domains, so think like greek gods, but slightly less dysfunctional (or slightly more dysfunctional, depending on how this plays out). you are totally free to tell your raccoon people whatever the heck you want however, so if you want them to believe that you created everything that is and that tatsua's character is this universe's equivalent of the devil then i say more power to you!

Oh man. This interests me. If possible, I'd love to join in on this, even though I'm new. I'm planning on going with a more abstract god, rather than the normal Greek God expy that many god-makers tend to favor. Is this allowed?

by all means, be as creative as you like in making your character. we're at four players now, i'm thinking an ideal number would be six to eight, so we'll wait a bit longer and in the mean time i'll get the character template up and you all can start making your gods.

Name: Djinn, the Goddess of Ceaseless Warmth, the Mirthful Flame, Candle of the Heavens.
Domain: Magic
Personality: Djinn is a strange and energetic Goddess, one who prefers the tastes and touches of a mortal body to an incorporeal, omniscient thought-form. Once she starts smiling there is no force in this universe than can bring her down, and she can only get even more excited and cheerful the more you try. Distinctively unpredictable and chaotic, she has been known to possess a mischievous streak, particularly targeted at her fellow Gods.
Appearance: In her most basic form, Djinn is an unquenchable, smokeless flame that is amorphous in nature, changing colours and shifting between forms freely even with no observers present. She is, however, known for transforming often, and is especially fond of taking mortal forms to enjoy her share of earthly pleasures.
Symbols: Fire.

Name: The Spiral
Domain: Chaos and Dreams. The Spiral has the power to alter reality to frightening degrees, mimicking the dreamscape sentient beings visit when they sleep. This power is near limitless, just like that of the world inside the dream, but is restricted, as the Spiral cannot physically exist in the same world as the others, and must be invoked. Objects that bear the shape of the God's namesake produce the necessary energies to channel his powers, but ultimately, the Spirals need to be more complex and large to fully recreate the land of dreams, otherwise the Spiral would exist without limit, in every single organic being, due to the spiral helix of DNA. Otherwise, the Spiral exists to create chaos, the necessary changes in reality, social upheavals, natural disasters, and most importantly, anarchy. This is often caused by a major Spiral symbol staying in a place for too long, producing a curse, or somebody living around a spiral object for too long, inciting strange, ideal-changing dreams.
Personality: The Spiral has no obvious personality, as it cannot properly communicate with the outside world, however, it does have goals, often voiced by its two avatars, Lucid and Manic. The Spiral's goal can change from benevolent, to corrupt, to outright incomprehensible. The way people see it is even varied inside the myths of its worshipers, sometimes shown as a Benevolent bringer of change, or a destructive force of Chaos. Until something finally breaches the barrier to its home dimension, the world will never know its true self.
Appearance: The Spiral has no known appearance, and is mostly depicted either as its namesake or a giant Hermit Crab, wearing a Spiral seashell. The Spiral's two avatars in the physical world, Manic and Lucid, have distinct forms, however. Manic takes the form of a man in a time-displaced entirely white business suit, down to the shoes, with blonde hair, a yellow bowtie held together with a pink and purple Candy Skull, and a perpetual shadow over his face. Lucid takes the form of a stone statue, held together by bronze joints. It has a crescent moon for a head, and the statue portion of its body perfectly reflects the body of the person it appears to.
Symbols: The Spiral is primarily associated with its namesake, and the color green. However, ti also has other symbols, such as the Impossible Triangle or Penrose Steps.
Trivia: Inspired by the film Inception and the manga Uzumaki, so if you're familiar with either, you might be able to see what's coming, with enough unique twists, of course.

The fact that I was late in granting such deserved praises shall be a stain on my life's honor.

There goes my favorite Asura-like triple diety idea of growth, change, and decay.

It wasn't so much chaos as I wanted to be change.
Ahh, a motherly deity with such unwavering love and kindness that in the form of a youthful maiden of growth would seek the growth and strength of her children, to watch them advance up the food chain, to strive to be the top! Indeed, this maiden of unyielding encouragement shall seek to strengthen their bodies. And then when they reach that peak, she would take the form of a wise mother of change and seek to challenge her children with such change, to see how well her people confront and overcome difficult but not impossible challenges, to forever prevent the god-killer that is stagnation and idleness. This strict but kind mother will seek to strengthen their minds. And when all challenges have been won and her children sharpened into their best, the motherly love must cast back her tears and bite back her cries as she becomes the wicked crone of decay and force strife and struggle upon her children, to give them the wisdom of pain and weakness. Though seemingly cruel and evil, this most loving crone shall temper their understanding and spirit, to bring forth a challenge that shall either forge selflessness and virtue into her children or have them fall into selfishness and greed.

But enough of that. Maybe I'll go for something more standard that I normally do. Maybe just a kind deity of birth and creation. Something simple, preferably something that could help be a foil / support of the other gods.

Edit: Rereading that rant, I can probably twist "change" into something akin to "struggle" or "strife..."
