How would an infected react to suffocation / having something cover their face? I might as well ask about drowning as well. Also, if something was in the way of where their body is regeneration, would the body regrow around the obstacle? Just thinking of some logistics of these predators' abilities.

If something is obstructing a bodily function, they would forcibly eject it by shifting around the body in a way as to remove the the obstruction.

As for suffocation... As I said, they would eventually manage to remove the obstruction, whatever it is, but they may go dormant for a bit while the body works on removing it depending on how long they go without breathing. If they were chasing something when their nose and eyes were covered, they will use their ears to track down their prey while the body works on removing whatever is blocking their other senses.

For drowning... Their body would eject the intruding water from their system as they float up to the surface of the water due to their density. They can also swim, although clumsily. If there is no surface to the water (like a completely flooded room) then it will have the same effect as setting them on fire (where the fire will continuously be fueled by the regenerating skin and organs), and they will constantly remain dormant. However, they will reawaken quickly as soon as their body is freed from the water-filled environment..

If part of one is cut off, like a limb or their head, and is put back before they regrow that piece, would the piece reattach?

Depends on how long its been separated. If it was very recently the two pieces would work together to re-attach. If it's already been quite a while, it will grow a new one instead of re-attaching and the old one becomes a discarded body part with no function other than to rot in the streets.

Though the only criticism I have to give is that the numbers and "zerg-rushing" are FAR too exaggerated for what I intended XD. These infected don't group together and swarm as often as zombies do. They often just appear together in packs (mostly 4-8 infected together). Though the sound of the speakers will probably draw different packs together (besides, infected only come from people who survive their wounds after being cannibalized, so there will be a lot more dead people than infected people). So having numbers amounting to a "crowd" or "swarm" in one place is a rarity for infected.

But considering the city-wide speakers activating and Mr Smiley's dinner-bell tingling, I could see a swarm like that forming . I'm just saying this so it doesn't happen too often in your posts. They are hunters after all, who don't just randomly wander, gather, and chase. They can easily stay silent and hidden when they are not alerted, waiting for any unlucky prey who sets off their senses.

If every WMD was powered by WD40, there would be a lot more WMDs in my grandfather's closet. Still, it is amazing how easy it is to make something terrifyingly deadly out of everyday materials.

@ IVIasterJay: Are you attacking the same infected that attacked Mach? The ones outside the convenience store that Chenzor is holed up in? The ones that ran away so I could get across the street and into said convenience store?

He mentioned in his post that he was attacking infected that had previously been trying to break into the store. So as far as I can tell, that seems to be the case, IInflex.

Problem is that both you and myself had already said the infected that was attacking you had taken off down the road... its the only way I got into the store. The departure of that particular infected was instrumental in me getting across the street. It would not have happened as such if I saw the infected's head blow up...

Should I just ignore it??

Let's say that this went down:
Morgan entered the store.
Infected chased her.
Infected got distracted by someone yelling down the street. Yay food!
Casey smashed through the boards to enter.
Ian targeted the infected as it moved down the street, rather than right outside the convenience store.

Does that work?
