Harry Potter-esque RP?

Alright, Im not the biggest Harry Potter fan and a lot of the story of Harry Potter kinda bothers me... But would anyone be interested in an RP that involves the WORLD of Harry Potter without any of the plot from Harry Potter? Id also like to change around the spells because I think most of them are lame/generic/simple and can use an overhaul to something more exciting/awesome.

Anyways, hiding from Muggles, being in a school for witches and wizards, the different houses, all of this sounds cool to me. Id just rather ignore the whole Harry/Voldemort vein... However, Im waaaay too lazy to make an OoC for this (Im a perfectionist and would have to make the OoC waaaay more extravagant than need be)... so would anyone want to make this RP with me??? If not, and I got enough interest, I might throw together an OoC anyways. Lemme know what you guys think!!!

On a very awesome HP fan site (where you can take online hp courses and they dont play its real courses http://hogwartsishere.com/ ) mentions theres one in Salem, Mass (hahahaha) idk if they made it up or if J.K. actually mentioned it, but i think that'd be awesome.

Im glad to see some people interested. RumikoOhara, I would love some help if you'd be willing. Shadow and Serinaty, you guys seem pretty knowledgeable as well.

I like the idea of putting a school in America. Salem, Mass. would be awesome. Im picturing an awesome old/creepy castle that would be used for the school. Furthermore, making our own houses would mean removing the actual canon HP story fairly easily. If we did a school in America, we could make our own houses, though, some people might be disappointed not to be in their favorite Hogwarts house.

Here are some of the things we'd need to think about:

• What kind of school do we want/ setting-- America? If so, we need to create the school, teachers, classes, etc.


• What kind of magic do we want? The same magic as the canon story? Do we want to be strict on specific magics or should we leave it open to the player?


• What kind of conflict do we want to have? Will there be an evil professor or will there be some sort of external antagonist?

If we are serious about going through with this, it will be OUR rp and not just MY rp. :)

EDIT: If we change the setting to America, it might be a good idea to keep the spell-system. Otherwise, we run the risk of changing TOO much to the point where you could barely call it an HP RP.

I'd keep the spells. I'd love to have it set in Salem, Mass. I think the houses would have to be different named, but could provide the same ....functions. like ___=Gryffondor ____=Slytherin. If I may suggest some house names

House Foxglove: Color, royal purple and silver, Foxes for their symbol.(the Ravenclaws)

House Florifun = Soft brown and black, Otters for their mascot (The Hufflepuffs)

House Prydion = Bright red and white, Eagles for their mascot (The Gryfondors)

House Viserious = Dark grey and gold, Bears would be their Mascot (The Slytherin)

And maybe it could be a huge castle in the woods thats hidden by magic. It could have the same classes, we could offer up people to play both the students and the teachers. Whatever strikes their fancy. (I personally would love to play a potions teacher and a student. I'd be willing to play Headmaster if no one else would want to...mostly cause i have an idea for it.)

I like those house names except for Florifun, haha. I particularly like foxglove but maybe thats just because it reminds me of foxhound. :P Also, I might change some of the symbols/mascots. One or two of them could use something more magical/mystical/mythical. :)

I also agree that we can keep it open for players to be professors or students. That way, if someone has a cool idea for a class that isnt normally in the Hogwarts curriculum, they can play the professor who teaches it if they so please. After the initial applications, we can create some NPC professors and, if a new player comes along, we can have the professor leave and a new professor (the new player) come in.
