Jason stood alone in the Valley, white snow surrounding the young dragon rider as he waited for word from the fellow human villagers on wheter or not the enemy had sank its fangs deeper into his home country, and if it would be safe to have Atalantia come out from hiding, or if enemy spies were still very active in this area. He held his Jacket tight around his shoulders, since it was cold outside. His sword hung at his side. A lone warrior in a hostile white world. The idea amused Jason. Still nobody came to him yet, and the wind was picking up. Soon the boy would have to head back to the house that he was using, or die of frostbite.

Echo squinted her eyes, pulling her scarf tighter around her face as she hunkered down against the cold. She wasn't really all that worried about falling off Haku, her saddle and harness kept her firmly on the reptile's back. We should land soon. This storm is getting worse. She told him. She felt his agreement in her mind and soon he began dropping altitude. They soon broke out of the clouds and began drifting lower. The wind wasn't as fierce as they went lower. The dragon landed in a small clearing and Echo slid off his back. She patted him on the nose. "You stay here while I scout ahead. With your black scales you would stand out too much against the snow." Haku narrowed his eyes. I don't like you going alone. You always manage to get into some kind of trouble when I'm not there. Echo smiled at him. I'll be fine. I have my flute and you won't be far. If I get into trouble I promise I will call. Haku huffed before finally agreeing. Echo smiled and began walking in the direction she had seen the town in. It wasn't long before she stepped out into a clearing and paused. There was a lone figure standing in the snow facing the forest. Echo rested a hand on her flute case, wondering if she should proceed or retreat.

Jason noticed a figure appear in the distance, after hearing a loud thump of something heavy hitting the ground. Atalantia, there is somebody else here, and I don't like the situation. I could use your help. He said to his dragon waiting in the forest. How is it that when I'm not around, Stone Ears, that my warnings fall on deaf ears and you get yourself into trouble? Came the response of Atalantia. She took to the sky quickly before slamming down behind Jason, landing heavy to stir up that extra fear in their enemy's heart. Her black scales made her stick out in the white landscape, as her tail flicked back and forth. "I'd explain yourself and the loud noise stranger, Atalantia here hates being disturbed while she is resting."

Echo felt her heart leap into her throat and Haku instantly responded to the brief flash of fear he felt coming from his rider. He took to the sky and soon landed beside his rider. He snarled, baring his teeth at the male and the female dragon. He angled himself between the two of them and Echo, gently beginning to nudge Echo back towards the forest. See?! Every time you are left alone you get into trouble. He growled, narrowed eyes still on the figures across from them. Maybe they are the two we've been looking for? Echo protested, laying a hand on his side. He glanced at her before turning back. Who are you? Are you working for the dark king? Haku growled at them.

Jason watched as the girl's dragon appeared. He heard what the male Dragon had to say, and was about to respond when Atalantia stepped in front of him. Watch your demands, No-fire (which is apparently the same as being talked down to but for dragons), Because I will tear out the throats of any beings threatening him. She growls back. "Atalantia. Calm down." Jason says beforewalking next to his dragon's head, rubbing her neck. "No. We are one of the two remaining riders, as I suspect you are as well."

Haku let out a loud growl and took a step forward. Echo hurriedly wrapped her arms around her dragons neck to calm him. In doing so her cloak's hood fell back, revealing her pointed ears. "So you are the ones we have been searching for then." Echo said, soothingly rubbing Haku's snout as she faced the male and his dragon. "I am Echo and this is my dragon Haku. We have traveled from Ellesmera to find you." She said.

"Yes, the Dwarves wandering through told me that you had left in search of me. So it seems like the time has come for us to join forces and fight the enemy that killed the great and powerful Eragon. Before that, I wish to check on the town, its awfully quiet even for a day like this." Jason says to the girl and begins walking towards the town without another word, as he turned, the gourd on his back could be easily seen. Which would most likey raise questions, since so few others carried gourds like Jason did.

Echo nodded at his statement. She raised an eyebrow at the gourd but she really couldn't question about him carrying odd things. She carried a flute didn't she? Besides, she had seen stranger things. She padded after him, Haku staying by her side.

Jason approached the town slowly, something was off. There were no fires going in the fireplaces, and nobody was moving about in thier house. It seemed wrong. Atalantia, sensing the boy's feelings went into a more defensive mode and began scanning the perimeter.

Echo knew something was off the moment she stepped into town. With her heightened senses she could tell that no fires had been lit recently and there was no sound of movement in the house. She quietly drew her flute. Haku, seeing that, tensed and became alert. Echo slowly approached a house, peering in through the window.

Suddenly a black arrow flew towards Jason, the top to his gourd popped off and out came a wall of sand which intercepted the Arrrow. Jason turned slowly towards his attacker, only to see the dead bodies of the former inhabitants of he village lying dead while 20 plus urgals aimed their arrows at him, and the dragons. A few let loose eary towards Jason, and the sand formed a sphere around him, where hrough a small crack the boy could be seen standing inside.

Echo heard the hiss of an arrow and whirled around just in time to see a wall of sand rise up in front of Jason and deflect the arrow. She watched as the sand formed a sphere around him. Echo raised her flute to her lips and a sharp note rang out. A fierce wind rose up around the urgals and their weapons flew from their hands. A slightly deeper note followed and the ground rumbled as roots exploded from the dirt and wrapped around the urgals, lifting them into the air and holding them in a tight grip.

"So the enemy is here. Guess we will have to deal with them. Atalantia, they're all yours." Jason says, and the black dragon looks up and lets a loud roar escape her mouth as fire left her mouth and covered the urgals who were being held in the air by Echo's magic. "They can't survive that." Jason said as he watched that.

Echo nodded at Jason's words and knelt down. She placed one palm flat against the ground and closed her eyes. Haku stood protectively over her as she concentrated. "There are another 30 or so in the forest behind the town. They were sent here to seek out the rider residing among the humans of Palacar Valley." She said as the wind brought to her the sound of the enemies hiding in the forest. The only reason she knew this was because she heard a few of them talking about it. "There is a Shade, mostly Urgals and a few Dark Elves." She said, opening her eyes and standing. She grabbed her long bow and quiver from Haku's saddle and quickly strung the bow: hooking the bottom of the bow in the strap on the heel of her right boot and bent the bow across her body, stringing. She plucked the string and, satisfied with the tension, notched an arrow. She didn't draw but rather held the bow to the side, relaxed. However she could raise the bow and fire all in a matter of seconds if she needed to.

Jason listened to the girl. "They killed my friends here. They will not survive." He said, as his sand shield disappeared and the sand returned to his gourd. Then he knelt down and felt the ground himself. It was too wet. He woudn't be able to grind it up to create sand. Jason was stuck with only what he had in the gourd on his back for now. That was plenty. He could kill them easily enough

Echo headed towards the forest. Stay here for now. The trees are too packed together for you to fight properly. She told Haku. He growled but obeyed. Echo silently entered the forest, moving like a ghost between the trees. She used her keen hearing to silently make her way to where the enemies were hiding. She didn't bother looking behind her, knowing Jason would follow eventually.

"Shukaku Sand Shield!" Came the sound of Jason's voice from behind Echo, instantly sand leaped up in a sphere around her much like it had for him earlier, the dull sound of arrows from the ambush hitting the shell echoed inside of it. It was obvious Jason had justave her from and ambush

Echo nodded to him in thanks and spun out from behind the sphere, letting loose several arrows in quick succession. They slammed into their targets and Echo retreated back behind the sand wall. She waited for a moment before spinning out the opposite side, catching the Urgals off guard and that allowed more of her arrows to hit their targets. She had taken out about ten of them by now and she took out another five that tried rushing at them.

Jason nodded back at the girl, then as the sand wall dropped he thrust his hands towards the enemies. "Sand Coffin" He said as the sand wrapped itself around all the enemies. Not allowing them to move. The urgals and dark elves were soon begging for their lives, offering information and anything to survive. A normal rider would have let them go, but Jason closed his fist. "Sand Burial!" And the sand coffins tightened, blood exploded out as they died. Though one sand moutain exploded back open as the shade came out.

Echo watched as Jason trapped them and held them in the air. She stepped forward, about to start questioning them as they pleaded they had information to tell. However she flinched back in surprise when the sand closed around them. Blood exploded out and it was thanks to her fast reflexes that she escaped from being doused. She heard something explode and she whirled around, letting loose an arrow at the Shade who had been about to throw a spell at Jason. It pierced his heart and she watched as the beings skin turned transparent then split apart as the darkness erupted from him. Echo flinched as the unearthly scream pierced her sensitive ear-drums. The shadows dispersed and Echo turned to face Jason, expression unreadable. Haku appeared at her side, having made his way through the trees. He growled at Jason, having seen what had happened in his riders mind. We could have used them to find out information! Why didn't you kill them after rather than before?!
