Why the hell are some of them like 16 minutes long? They're skippable, but sometimes I'll forget that whatever playlist I'm listening to (I have no idea why I listen to playlists on Youtube) has stopped and I'll check the window and there's some goddamn longass ad that is basically an entire episode of some talkshow. How is it that the ad can take up 5 times as much time as the video it's attached to?

Because they're skippable. So it doesn't matter if the ad is 16 minutes long because anyone who doesn't want to watch it only has to listen to the first five seconds of it.

Also, the ads are not specifically matched to certain videos. You know that, right? It's all selected by computer systems, which I doubt take into account the length of the actual video.

Eugh, you're right. And I get that ads are important to keep Youtube free and up and everything, it's just a little odd those could be considered ads still.

Why not? If they can get you to watch a 15 minute ad then good for them.

Ads allow the web to be relatively free to browse.

I'm not going to argue the morality of using it, but I will argue the stupidity of trying to spread it. It's self-destructive behavior.

Give me convenience or give me death. I was only suggesting it because apparently it's such a hardship for the OP he had to make a thread about it.

Nah. It's not really a hardship, I'm just pointing it out? I mean, I probably sounded whiny. It's basically in my genetic code.

I know that it was an innocent suggestion

But I have a radical opinion about the whole thing.

Hypothetically, if everyone started using AdBlock then ads would become useless and everything would change. We would end up with new kinds of ads or fees. It would definitely ruin AdBlock and possibly ruin the web.

So I see every occurrence of someone suggesting it to someone else, or in other words, someone pushing the percentage of AdBlock users more towards critical mass, as a big no-no.

But you can turn adblock off and even put websites on a list of places not to adblock.

I don't see how that's relevant to what I'm saying. That's still either using it or not using it.

Didn't seem like a complaint to me so much as a legitimate question, hence why I just answered it instead of mentioning my own AdBlock usage. *shrugs*
