When I was explaining this RP to a friend some months ago, I summed the concept up as, "It'll start out like a normal RP, compelling in all the usual ways with enough of a premise on its own, and them BAM, I'll hit them with something huge and devastating."

In my original conceptions the players would lose their OWN country (or planet--hadn't decided on the genre yet), but I decided this would be too much of a loss and it might hinder the story. Instead, having one player from Vicenna (which was never my intention, but I'm glad it happened that way) will help feelings of empathy. And one character's grief won't hold anything back.

I don't consider this a plot twist. This is just the beginning.

@Life in Stasis I figured it would've be along the lines of the subjugation of the entirety of Areta to the new insect overlords. Scare 'em into submission with a vast display of power and rule like gods.

I was expecting Vicenna, not bug-overlords, this RP took a really quick turn to real fantasy shit.

I actually prefer low fantasy settings, less weird stuff the better. Majority human casts are easier to empathize with. High fantasy just gets too unruly in an RP setting without a set of rules governing things like magic. The reason I put all the mages in Vicenna was so I could pretty much wipe the slate and make magic rarer than it already was.

But make no mistake, this wasn't my endgame. Seeing an entire country get destroyed is more or less a way to tell the players what's at stake. To make them really fear the consequences.

@Life in Stasis not only do I completely agree about your stance on fantasy (it's the reason I wanted to join the RP) but I also like the way you completely eradicated magic without making it simply off limits for players.. clever. I need to remember it for an RP of mine.

Well, besides Marcus, there are the mages that would have been envoy to the Prime Minister of Vicenna, who is currently at Marion Bay. Perhaps not all is lost for the Vicennean order of Mages. I hear those dudes protecting the PM are pretty powerful.

There are mages accompanying the PM but they aren't Magi. They wouldn't be allowed in the castle.

Easter is this weekend? Huh... hope the theater is open, I was gonna see the Cloverfield movie. Also picked up some crpg mostly because of its name (STASIS). I hope it doesn't suck.

I've never seen a theater close, not even on holidays. Though, I live in Vegas, so it might be different everywhere else. Everything is always open in Vegas. It was so weird when I went to Chicago for school and everything was always closing at 7 or 8 and on Sundays.

Sigh. I'm sure you thoroughly enjoyed Undertale too then. That game is so terrible, and the fanbase is even worse. :/ Did you read about that girl in Canada who played the game and then decided to stab everyone in her school, because of the game? Such a strange game that is.

Yes, I'm sure it was because of the game and not because she was very sick.

I was gifted a copy of Undertale but I never installed it. I've never had any interest in the game. Didn't even know it or its fandom existed until semi-recently. Flipped through the wiki once, decided it was another example of an over-hyped game.

I actually have pretty discerning tastes, but when I say it that way it makes me sound like an insufferable pretentious jerkwad.

@Life in Stasis I'm sure she was sick beforehand. My apologies for sounding like one of those crazy-Christian ''all games are evil'' people, but the Undertale fanbase is quite crazy. I've read some of their Tumblr stuff when it got posted on one of my favourite steam groups and decided they are all crazy people. It seems inherent to the game to me at this point.
