The Guild Guide: Introduction

You may be wondering exactly why you are here and it will all be explained shortly. You see, you are quite a unique individual, whether you've come to realize it yet or not. That is why we have brought you to our humble guild hall. We are a talented group of hunters. What do we hunt? Well, let's just say that the nasty bedtime stories your father told you are mostly true. You're Guild Guide will introduce you to the history and concept further in later chapters. For now, suffice it to say that you will have to buck up and face some of your worst nightmares. Crazy, right, but someone has to do it. We are the brave souls that protect the world from the darkness. Without your help, the light we carry could go out. So cliche! Shut up, it's inspiring!

i hope that hasn't scared you away. We really do need all the help we can get and can only get it from a select few like you. It's not all gloom and doom around here, though! While a member of the Kingdom Guild, you are welcome to use our hall and all it has to offer. We have lodging for those without, a kitchen where you can find some of the best grub on the east coast, training grounds, common areas, an extensive research lab and library, as well as of course the amenities that the brothel provides.

We are a family and we protect each other. You may not understand what that means, as some of your guildmates didn't when they first arrived, but trust me when I say that there is no greater feeling in this dangerous world we live in. However, your most valuable asset here at the guild will be this Guide. Keep it with you at all times and study it well. The Guide will cover the Guild's history and rules, a bestiary designed for quick reference when on the job, notes on many magical situations and items you may encounter, and many other resources that even the most seasoned hunter will use. Not an exaggeration. This book is your life.

The Guild Charter

We do have rules here within Kingdom Guild that keep us under control. Some pertain to the Guild. As I said before, we are a family. Yes families fight, but it is only tolerated to an extent. There are also rules for the world beyond our hall. The vast majority of the world does not know of our existance and certainly not our purpose. This is how we prefer it. There would be chaos and confusion otherwise. As such, many of our actions, though noble in intention, will often be viewed as villainous and illegal to the eyes of the world. Follow the rules of the Guild and you should keep out of trouble on both ends.

A member of the Guild shall not intentionally harm nor murder another member.
A member of the Guild shall not steal from another member.
A member of the Guild shall not interfere with another member's contract.
A member of the Guild shall not ignore the cries of the innocent.
A member of the Guild shall not bring our mission to the public eye.
A member of the Guild shall not be captured by law enforcement.
A member of the Guild shall not leave a hunt's remains unattended.
A member of the Guild shall not question an order from the Guild Master.
A member of the Guild swears to uphold these laws and carry out their duty to the fullest.

Library Reference
========================================================


Once you are ready to take on your first hunt, you will be given a Guild Seal. This is a very important trinket that will discreetly alert our allies of who you are. It is also enchanted to allow communication to the Guild Hall no matter where you are in the world. Pretty handy when you need information while on the job. If you request information from the Library, such as Beastiary, Geography, History, Magic, and really any other field then it will appear here after the Librarian processes your request, gathers the information, and sends it to your Guide.

Guild Supplies
=====================================================


Kingdom Guild has an exceptional Guild Supplier. Sometimes when on a contract, a certain item will be needed to complete it. Often these items are rare and can not be found on the spot. When that is the case, you can use your Guild Seal to put in a request for the item. Our Supplier will process the request, use his resources to get the item, then update this page to let you know where you can find it. Be forewarned, he is the best and the price reflects it. His serivices can be expensive and his price is not always monetary. Exercise caution.

Contacts
==================================================


This section of the Guide will update contact information for you. The guide will let you know who is just a regular world contact or an ally of the Guild. This way you don't accidently reveal the Guild to a regular person or sound stupid in front of a Guild member.


Merlin -- Guild
The Kingdom Guild leader. He prefers to stay in study and read over his books so most members have never seen him. He has his second-in-command relay orders to the guild and post contracts. When in the field, you can use your Seal to contact him and ask for guidance, but don't expect him to be straight-forward with it. He loves speaking in riddles to test the minds of the Guild.

Rumple -- Guild
A strange little half-goblin that stays in the cellar of the Hall where he has set up his shop. You can find a number of strange items for sale their, but his greatest resource is procuring. If you need an exceptionally rare item such as troll blood or something that has gone extinct, he can get his hands on it. For a hefty fee, of course. Merlin advises newcomers to stay away from him. However, when in the field, there is no better man to get what you need to finish a contract.

Belle -- Guild
Belle is the Guild Librarian. She has read every book in the Library and can recall facts from many of them. If you want some quick information before a contract, or need emergency details in the field, she's the one to call. However, she is very busy with requests and her Seal is set to only take messages. You must leave her your request and hope she gets the information back to you before it is too late. Check your Guide regularly after you make a request.

Magic Journal
=====================================================


You are like to run into an assortment of magical items and situations while out in the field. Your Guide will automatically update whenever you or one of your teammates obtains new information about it. As you may have guessed by now, I have enchanted the Guides which allows for the chapters to be updated as you grow as a Hunter. More chapters may even appear as they become relevant to you. So be sure to check back often and I'll try to remind you when I can.


THE GUILD SEAL

This powerful and small device appears to the world as nothing more than a large brooch. However, to Kingdom Guild and its allies, this is your badge of honor. It also allows you to communicate with the Guild Hall and any nearby members of the Guild by pressing the center of the rose. Use caution, as the Seal will activate and glow a bright blue until you shut it off the same way. Concentrate on which section of the Guild or which member you want to speak with and the Seal will automatically connect you.

THE GUILD GUIDE

This is the lifeblood of a Guild Member. Anything you could ever need will be found in here when the time is right. Merlin believes in a live and learn lifestyle for the Guild. "You'll never grow as a Hunter if everything is handed to you!" Therefore, much of the book is blank for the time being. As you request certain information or experience new things, the Guide will magically update and reveal new information for you. Check back often if you wish to stay up-to-date on everything there is to know about being a Kingdom Guild Hunter.

Locations

Here you can find some relevant information about places you'll go or have visited. Mostly it will be a short description of the layout of the city using landmarks. If requested from Belle, it can become more detailed and even include maps when available.


GOLDEN CITY
[i]Golden City is city hidden away in the hills of Virginia. It is very comparable to New York City, which has become a fast growing hub for sins, crimes, and monsters. This happens when people gather and live tightly packed. There are basic landmarks around the city. City Hall, theatres, businesses, etc. are all located downtown. The schools are up on the northside, the east and west are mostly housing, and the main landmark of the south is the brothel tucked away in the series of warehouses and factories set up along the river. This is our brothel. "Beauty" is a cover for the Guild Hall which can be accessed in the back. Using some cloaking magic, anyone without a Seal can't even tell it is there. Plus, we have guards to keep away any who shouldn't be sniffing around.

The Guild Contract Board

The Contract Board in the main room of the Guild Hall is where hunters can find information on current bounties out for various creatures. It is not entirely clear where most of them come from, but given their mysterious appearances most members believe Merlin adds them. Where he gets his information is even more of a mystery. Some civilians in the world that know about the Guild may pass along contracts when they find strange activity in an area. Sometimes a fellow member may post a contract. These are usually considered favors and don't pay much if at all, but it is always worth having a high ranking member owe you one.

She thinks there is a witch in Providence. I warned her to wait until I could get there. I'm tracking a Skinwalker trying to run west and need someone to go check on her. Just find out what's going on and let me know, don't need one of you kids getting killed.

CONTRACTS IN PROGRESS

Playing With Magic
Location: Havensburg
Contractor: Village of Havensburg, written up by Paul.
Problem: Witches?
Details: Paul heard a traveler in the brothel talking with one of the Companions. He was talking about his time in Havensburg and that the people were hearing chanting coming from the forest at night. The chants sound like rituals and the village suspects some of their girls are practicing witchcraft. The Companion inquired further and told Paul that the village has no authority beside their village leader. He is a brutish and strict man that is very angry about the event. Investigation is needed immediately into the matter. We all know that witches are nearly extinct and so these girls are likely just living out the rumors they've heard. None the less, the village is scared and those girls are in danger.

Out of Character Information: The village of Havensburg is a small logging community along one of the railroads. Their village leader, Matthew Galley, is a large and strict father figure in the community. He is the only authority for miles and so the village is used to handling their own problems. Upon arrival to the town, the hunters would find that Matthew has two of the suspected girls detained. They are locked in a room and appear beaten and neglected. He has been 'lightly' torturing them for the whereabouts of the last girl that has not turned up yet.

Havensburg Description: It was only lacking more people, being that the small town's train station seemed to be staffed by less than a dozen men. As the smoke and steam from the stopping of the train engine faded away the town was revealed more fully before them in the fading light. There was a mixture of wooden buildings and brick buildings, but far more wood. There was a warehouse and office for the train station to their right, and a general store towards their left. She could see other signs poking out from rows of buildings down the main road from the train: a saloon, a bank which also housed a telegram service, then on the general store side of the street there was a notary public, and a courthouse with a jail that really didn't look large enough to be either of those things. It looked like the end of the road faced an Inn, with something that looked like a row of workhouses next to it. Otherwise, the other buildings seemed to be residences or storage buildings. If there was a church, it was likely to be on another street over or so where there were more residences. Eulalie figured the same would be true for the houses of anyone well-to-do.

Apple Hearts
Location: Kingdom Guild
Contractor: Snow
Problem: I lost my mother's locket and want it back.
Details: My mother's locket is all I have left of her and would really like to have it back again. It is a small pendant in the shape of an apple. The first hunter to get it back to me will have my appreciation. I last remember having it upstairs when I was checking in with Merlin. It might have fallen off in the tavern on my way up or somewhere in Geppetto's shop when I crossed over to the library.

Out of Character Information: The locket is solid gold and Rumple has been eyeing it for years. He constantly offers Snow deals in an attempt to get his hands on it, but she refuses every one of them.

Very good choice. He has a dark lore, stealing children with "bad" parents and then killing the lost boys when he gets told old. A very troubled character.

I'm not sure the sort of Krampus-esque peter pan story is real or not, I have a damned hard time tracking it down, and I can usually find the darker origins of fairy tales pretty quickly. I've seen a jpeg on facebook alluding to it, that's it, so it may be someone's creative thinking. I think it was more someone taking a fun twisted look at the Disney version of Peter Pan. Peter Pan was a turn of the century play, and is supposed to be inspired by the story of Peter the Wild Child in the 18th century.

Dark blonde hair, brown eyes, and a smooth complexion as afforded by her myriad of skin care products and life of leisure.

French, English, with some German if she needs it. Latin, from the Catholic Church, but she doesn't converse in it. She's better at reading it.

Outfits


Eulalie is a bit spoiled, and a bit of a fashion fanatic. She wears a lot of frilly things with corsets, laces, and layers. When on the hunt, she wears a modified riding habit with a boiled leather breastplate fitted to her form on the exterior. The breeches of her habit is made from leather, rather than the tweed the jacket is made from.

Hunting Gear




  • A pair of pistols, a pouch of ammo, and a pouch of gunpowder. This is sort of a last resort save-your-ass kind of weapon.

  • A small grimoire said to have belonged to Briar Rose, and that it was a gift from the fairies on the birth of her first child. It appears to be a tiny illuminated manuscript, bound in leather with little gems set in the front. It easily fits in the palm of Eulalie's hand.

  • A hunting knife, ornately decorated with a bone handle, in case something gets too close and she's spent her pistols. She'd really rather not have to get that far.


  • Likes


    Sweets, riding horseback, and seeing paintings.

    Dislikes


    This "Ketchup" Americans insist on spreading on their meals, wet gunpowder, and long sea voyages.

    Occupation


    Mademoiselle Bellerose is a woman of means, daughter of a Comte et de la Comtesse, and didn't require a profession. Her family keeps her on an allowance for the time being.

    Skill Set


    Lala has trained in shooting pistols.

    Magic Abilities


    Lala has trained in shooting pistols, but her real value is in her magic. She uses debuffs to hold her enemies in place so she can shoot them better.
  • Vigne
  • is an entanglement spell that causes thorny rose vines to grow up below the creature and wraps around their legs.
  • Sommeil
  • causes the creature to fall asleep on the spot.
  • Haie
  • grows a rose hedge around a person to protect them from attackers, that then have to get through the hedge.

    Eulalie has a lady's maid that attends her named Georgine Bonhomme.

    Personality


    She's spoiled, a bit petulant, and snobby. She needs work. Hopefully socialization among commoners will help her come down off her high horse. Let's just say she got into some social trouble and her parents are tired of her shit.

    Background


    A descendant of old French nobility, Lala had been residing comfortable and happily in La Havre. She is a proper lady, and rather unaccustomed to these... charming Americans and their lifestyle. She's a bit proud, as her family has a long traceable line of nobility and managed to keep a large portion of their wealth intact during both eras of revolution, and as their had a lineage their titles were restored

    Unique Abilities


    On the one hand, anytime she pricks her finger on anything she passes out cold, but she does wake up after a few hours. Her family regards this as a "streak of narcolepsy" that runs in the family. Paper cuts are a real bother. On the other, like the re-awakening of the kingdom as Briar Rose was revived with a kiss, Lala is developing a Régénérer healing power, but it may take some personality adjustments to really unlock it's power.

Our characters don't know who they are, but you resemble your ancestor in looks, abilities, and even personality/history. However, I still want to see original characters so take unique twists to them. For example, Red Riding Hood can be a werewolf, which she hates so her hood is actually enchanted to keep her from changing, hence why she always wears it. It's also a good flaw as it means it is something she must always protect and be concerned about. Their unique traits should be designed to benefit them, but also have a flaw. Character flaws make for more interesting games.If you have trouble thinking of a good character, or giving your favorite Fairy Tale that unique twist, I am happy to help and have similar descriptions like Red and Ariel for pretty much all the big players. The setting is 1850's United States and I'm looking at more of a Victorian feel with some minor Steampunk elements (mostly fashion and some weaponry, but not automatons and mechanized limb replacements, the world still looks historically accurate for the most part). Also an important note, Guild Members don't know they are descendants. Merlin is the original Merlin and he has been tracking the bloodlines, so he knows but never tells anyone about it.Contracts will be taken as a team for now. As new recruits, you will go on hunts with the other recruits and your Mentor. Also, as GM I'm likely to throw curve balls on contracts and often set up opportunities for story-driven events to happen for the guild members. This will be much more effective when Mahz adds the multiple tabs feature, but for now contracts would be posted and monitored on the OOC and the IC will just be closely monitored by myself and any co-GMs. I choose Advanced because of the level of detail I'm putting into it. I don't expect 5,000 word posts from you. A few well-thought out paragraphs will suffice.


    I've read quite a bit of the Fairy Tail manga but am not up to date (and haven't really tried to be for a while). Can I still come in on this?

    Weakness 2: Having been a witness to so many diplomatic interactions, she has a hard time taking people at face value.
    Weakness 3: She’s never had a formal teacher, and as thus her powers are mostly unformed.
    Weakness 4: She’s a hopeless romantic. She will swoon over any guy who even hints at the “L” word.
    Occupation: Daughter of a diplomat and a baker in her free time
    Skill Set: She is good at playing “good cop” in interrogations, after being the innocent daughter in so many of her father’s schemes. She picked up some swordplay, and while she is good at it, she prefers not to soil her dress. She can blend in to a crowd fairly easily, and has lots of connections she can call on.
    Magic Abilities: While she does have the ability to cast spells, she does not know it and has never tried. However, she can infuse magic into sweets, such as a spell to grow a person to fill an entire room or shrink them down to the size of a thimble, in addition to any other spell she can get her hands on. She is not a frontline fighter, more of a support party.
    Pets/Companions: She has a... cat. Or at least, she thinks it’s at least part cat, considering she has only even seen part of it at a time, and the facial structure looks nothing like a cat, with a smile wider than hers and eyes the size of tea saucers. It’s also too large, or so she thinks, to be a cat. It’s partly invisible, you see. Or all invisible. It’s followed her for her entire life, and from her ability to speak to animals he seems to think she’s some Alice woman. She accepted it as an Anglicization of her name and moved on.
    Personality: Alicia can be a bit... spoiled. She has lead a privileged life, and unfortunately, it can show. She is also a bit jaded, growing up around political corruption. However, she tries to be happy, and focuses on the positive when she can manage it. She loves people, and enjoys being the center of attention. However, her noble upbringing can cause her to accidentally come across as quite haughty.
    Background: When your father is the most powerful man in town, you get privileges. Privileges such as a private tutor for every subject, a new suitor whenever the fancy struck her, balls given in her honor because, well, she asked. These privileges extended wherever she went, a trail of diamonds followed her from colony to colony, and after the Texan Revolution, back to Spain where she learned the truth of her mother. Everyone assumed that she was a legitimate child, as they knew his wife had died in childbirth around the time Alicia appeared. The truth was much darker.
    The princess quickly became a pauper when it was discovered that his wife was not, indeed, dead, but she ran away from her corrupt husband. He had been taking bribes and selling her out to other men as part of deals, and Alicia was not his daughter, but that of a British king, the product of “negotiations.” Alicia was cast out and her mother executed, and she was out of options when the Guild found her.
    Unique Abilities: She can speak to animals and plants. However, there is no promise that they will do as she asks. They are far less pliable than humans, and if they don’t want to help you, they won’t.
    Other: She is the descendant of Alice (in Wonderland) on her biological father’s side, hence no one knowing anything about why she could hear flowers and the like. Her cat is Cheshire, he’s immortal.

    Strength 2: There is no one else alive like her, her powers are more or less unique.
    Weakness 2: There is literally NO ONE else alive like her.
    Strength 3: She looks completely unassuming, as she carries no weapons and wears no armor.
    Weakness 3: If you take away her magic, she has nothing
    Occupation: A scullery maid and a lost noble
    Skill Set: She can keep a very clean house and keep anything cold. She has learned the hard way how to keep secrets and can sew very well. Can build a shelter in a matter of seconds and learned how to eavesdrop, pick a few loose pockets and muddle through some simple locks. All the things a loyal maid picks up when she has magic on her side.
    Magic Abilities: She has Ice Magic, and can harness cold. She can make storms, conjure the icy winds, form ice into whatever shape is needed and give life to snow. However, the whole melting thing... Well, that’s a work in progress.
    Pets/Companions: She doesn’t really have anyone, she was too pretty for the other maids and too common for the ladies. She only has whatever snowmen she makes to keep as company.
    Personality: Alexandra is a timid thing, but this opportunity has allowed her to explore a bit more and experiment with what she can do, taking away some of her fear. She enjoys life in general, but is not ambitious and was very happy with her station in life. However, she has a wretched temper. She gets extremely angry at the tiniest thing, and completely loses control of her powers.
    Background: First, a brief family tree. Elsa has two children, none with any signs of magic. One child is lost, assumed dead, while the other lives on the be the current nobility. However, the younger sibling did survive, and almost a hundred years have passed and Elsa is treated more like a deity than a dead monarch, and people believe that her powers were only in legend and sorcery doesn’t exist anymore.
    Alexandra has spent her life hiding this from everyone, fearful of being taken away from her life once they discover that she must be a direct descendant of Elsa. She enjoyed her life as a maid, cleaning and gathering palace gossip. She was sweet on a young man, but then the Guild showed up. After discussing it with her mom, she decided to go and explore the world with the Guild.
    Unique Abilities: She has ice magic. Very, very powerful ice magic.
    Other: Alexandra has figured out her parentage, but is afraid she’ll be forced into the nobility if she is discovered. Also, despite being a maid, she is very fashionable and has picked up on the royal trends. Lastly, she is looking for the gloves worn by Elsa, as no gloves she has tried have helped her, and she assumes they must be enchanted.

    Wonder, we've talked, but I'll make it official that you are accepted.

    Laby, I love your Alice profile, absolutely perfect for what I'm looking for in this RP. I haven't seen Frozen, so I'll trust you that Alexandra is built as a descendant and not modeled after the actual character. That said, I like that her powers can intensify with her emotion, it's a good flaw, but just be sure she isn't willingly conjuring big ice storms just yet. That's higher level magic that she'll need to train with the Guild for a while before she'd learn. Other than that, she is accepted as well.
