A day had passed. The newcomers had been introduced and most people were recuperating from the trial; a trial with a heavy hit. Not only did they lose a doctor, they lost a brother. As expected, it took a toll, as every death before did; yet at this rate it wouldn’t be long before there was nothing left to take.

Even from people like Max, one of the most upstanding and just individuals, could death take a piece of his mind. As he stood up from his bed once more, the effects of this could be seen. Where there was once a noble and confident fellow stepping outside into the world, a brooding dead-serious man now walked the hallways of Axis-Mundi.

As he passed the break-room on the first floor, he couldn’t help but notice the infinites trying their hardest to overcome their situation. They choose to keep going and endure the pain, but there was something innately wrong with that. This would keep going, and for every day they endured another would always come. There was no enduring this; it wasn’t a game of attrition or survival. There was a time limit, and Felix’s death taught this to Max.

If they didn’t find a way to escape soon, they would never; with those thoughts, Max made his way to the cave; on his way however, the sound of music drew him in. It reminded him of the party, and of his brothers beautiful display.

As he got closer though, he stopped dead in his tracks, they were Alice and Ice talking with…one of the new kids. Before any could spot him, Max swiftly moved behind a wall next to the door and kept listening.

Most of it was uninteresting chatter, but one thing certainly wasn’t…Alice had been talking to Parker behind all their backs, and discussed something of utmost interest. It would require more looking into in the meeting.

But then the new kid suddenly decided to leave the room, and it forced Max to leave unseen as well. Whatever conversation came after was not within his earshot, as he was now getting in position in the cave, where a faithful meeting would take place soon enough.

This situation really was ridiculously horrid…

Snow never expected these lowly humans to understand reason, but to see these ultimates lose their shit so fast, it was disappointing. Yet even though she was prepared for it, it was very disheartening to be so utterly disregarded by everyone, who either just ignored her, or even antagonized her. There was no doubt in her mind now; this game would crack them, and they would not live to see another day.

As she peered at the ultimates on display in her handbook, she assessed their credibility and chance of survival:

Ando was much too cowardly to try and kill someone, but if he kept antagonizing everyone with his bold bad boy demeanor, he would surely end up dead sooner rather than later.

Hisakawa and Damian were living in their own world, which denies them potential allies; nobody would probably even notice them disappearing.

Kara was the most naïve and sheepish girl out of everyone, so it wouldn’t be farfetched to manipulate her into her own demise, while Hibiki’s completely blank and voidless appearance indicated he was not going to even bother trying to protect himself.

Lilly couldn’t even talk…so neither could she scream for protection.

Taka seemed to think he could take everything on his own, which to be fair, was probably a safer bet than relying on others; perhaps there was a chance for him escaping.

Davis seemed to think he could take on the world, as well as everyone, at the same time. If it wasn’t for his ultimate talent, he’d be dead already.

Alice’s talent though… it was a death sentence all on its own, nobody in her right mind would let her run around freely, as most of the group seemed to agree with.

Neola’s talent could prove to be a problem, if she ever learned enough about one of them, who’s to say she wouldn’t impersonate them and kill, leaving the impersonated with the blame. But instead, she was looking after Kara, who probably meant she had a soft heart, but it remained to be seen if Neola could end up saving Kara, or Kara taking Neola with her.

That just left Aurel, the boy who helped Snow. His talent would make him a very dangerous enemy, but as it currently was, Snow didn’t think he would even accidentally harm her. He was already a good sidekick, but maybe his sacrifice would be required in order for her to survive.

Suddenly, her attention was brought back to reality, as Neola told their little group she had to visit the…bathroom of all places; Snow couldn’t help but roll her eyes. There was no reason for idle chatter like this, as most people were already planning their surviving tactics right now.

“Your bladder can wait; I want a map of this place, so I’m gonna need pen and paper, cuz I don’t think that dumb toy would leave a map hanging around here.” She put her hand towards the group, clearly expecting them to provide.

Saber of Whitehall

Hilltop Church

The situation really wasn’t in favor of Saber. Not only was she outmaneuvered and outsmarted; she was outnumbered. There was not a single mind alive who would place their bets on Saber winning; and yet, there was no sign of doubt or fear within her as the situation worsened. Perhaps she was used to these events, or perhaps there was simply no reason for those concepts, but the Saber in the here and now was simply not about to be struck down so easily.

Staying as she was would be completely useless, as both berserker's fist, and the lightning bolts would hit her full force, but surrounding her from every direction were summoned skeletons, making an escape very risky as well. But in this chaotic moment, chaotic movements were required.

And so, Saber placed a hand on her stomach reinforced with a barrier of wind to reduce the damage of the uppercut. While the momentum of the punch and wind caused her to spin around her axis; she used that rotating movement to her advantage, releasing deadly wind slashes against Darius and the skeletons. After reorienting herself, she then used one last wind burst, and propelled herself out of reach of the lightning bolts just in time.

“Man you almost had me there didn’t you? Although I can’t really consider it skill, what with the guy in the back shooting his ass off to save you.”

Hilltop Church

It was certainly an unorthodox way to defend yourself from an attack; but the skeletons that appeared out of thin air did block the wind slash. Although it was aggravating to watch the master run away, the servant facing her now required all her attention. As the skeletal minions were being summoned, Saber was trying to figure out what class she was fighting against; due to his ability to summon minions, as well as weapons, it seemed like he was a caster, but his movements were so weighty and bold; they were clear trademarks of a berserker.

But then, another servant joined the fray, sending bolts of lightning straight at Saber at the same time as the other’s rampaging assault. It caused a visible frown to appear on Sabers face,

“Two versus one? where is the honor in that? There is no glory in comb… Oh fuck this facade! I am not dealing with that right now.”

it did not seem like the odds were in her favor but then again, when were they ever?

“If you want to play it rough, I’ll answer you gladly! come at me then!

In a single, swift action, Saber raised the sword once again, allowing the wind to gather into a condensed and stormy gale, before she swung, releasing a violent slash of wind, aimed directly at the summoned skeletons. The lightning bolts and arrows that might have struck her down, instead bent along the attack - her Protection from Arrows - tearing apart the ground around her, but leaving their target unhurt. Now all she had to do was kill the maniac.

As Berserker closed the distance, Saber took her sword in two hands and was ready to fend off the attack. In a fluid motion, her sword touched both axes; yet withholding a blow of such immense strength would be straight up suicidal, so instead of blocking the axes head-on, she guided them away from her body and to the ground, shifting their direction without losing momentum. immediately After the axes reached the dirt, Saber placed a foot on one axe to keep it there, while swinging an wind empowered sword slash at the exposed arm holding the other axe.

on a day quite eventful, right after a trial took place, a lonesome figure was seated on the edge of his bed. There was a certain melancholic aura surrounding him as his eyes peered at the badge in his hand. The badge that was awarded to him for his ever vigilant work as an upholder of justice.

The thoughts in his mind drifted back to the day before, where he was frozen in place, a bullet flying straight past his head. He wanted to leave that place, to go as far away from it as possible, and never come back. But there was simply no way he could do that without reaching the core first. But to do that, he had to, once again, become the person that he’d banished so long ago.

Clenching his hand in a fist, Max stood up and raised his arm; and in a violent throw, the badge flew through the room, chipping a piece of the wall that it landed on. Where he was going, he did not need nor deserve that badge.

And so, the infinite police officer left his title in the corner of his room, and stepped outside.

Even though he could no longer protect the infinites, it would be awfully stupid to not make himself known to any newcomer; and maybe he would find a new conscript in it too.

As he made his way to the elevators, he passed a crying Emily. But as much as he wanted to give her the support she deserved, she would be a liability, a hindrance. So he walked along, not giving her a single glance.

It didn’t take him long to reach his destination after that, and as he turned the corner, he spotted them. But it seemed like they were already in conversation with Daimyon, who even now had not lost his blissful attitude. As Max leaned on the wall to listen to the discussion, he wondered what drove that man. It was hard to tell if the poet was indifferent, naïve, or just incredibly hopeful.

The other two showed much through their body language and short words as well. The boy looked like he’d been in this game for quite a while, he was getting used to it all, but there was still a sense of dread within him, which he cleverly hid with a smile. The way he spoke was very chaotic, but there was sincerity to his words; all things considered, there was potential within that boy.

The girl however…she just woke up in an unknown place, at an unknown time, and she probably heard the sounds of strangers…And yet the first thing she does, is attract them all. She was distraught and wanted answers. But the ones who panic are the ones who stay behind, and the ones who stay behind, are the ones who die.

After the group exchanged names and information, Max decided it was time to test these new recruits. There was no way they hadn’t spotted Max by now, so it would only be creepy if he did not do something, and as such, he pushed himself from the wall he was leaning on, and started walking towards them. But as he did, he took on a rough posture; and that combined with his already high length created quite an intimidating appeal.

“Tell me, do you know why you are here.”

The rest of the trial went by in a flash, and true to his word, those who were still fooling around or obstructing the trial were send straight to hell, for to him, they were dead. And yet, Alice’s distorted laugh and subsequent attitude towards it all still caught Max off guard. As much as he wanted to resent her for it, it seemed like there was too much wrong with Alice to take her serious, so he simply ignored it.

But then the blackened was revealed. Mercy; both the victim and the murderer. Many conflicting thoughts raced through his mind as he was watching the execution of a dumb robot which was somehow supposed to satisfy the crowd. Such a coward; to take her own life before ever hoping to be reprimanded. Such an abhorrent monster, to murder Felix, and then don’t even try to get out, letting him die in complete vain. Such a tragedy; that the human mind could be twisted so badly.

Even as Ice lost his temper once again, Max had already lost the adrenaline; the anger; the spark to keep him going. All that was left was a husk of his former self. However; there was one emotion that was left lingering in his heart.

Resentment. Max was no longer going to apprehend Davis for the crimes he had committed. No, the only possible outcome now had Max’s hands gripped tightly around conquests neck, squeezing until the only sound emanating from that mastermind was the pop of his neck. There was no use trying to protect anyone anymore, for it was only a matter of time before they would all turn on each-other, for that was the curse that this place forced on all who entered.

However, seeing Ice and Alice fueled by the same emotion that now Powered Max, he saw an opportunity; a means to an end, and for that, the husk of a man now strolled towards Ice.

“Matthews…Masson-“ He said, his voice so soft it was almost whispering. “If you truly seek revenge,” His eyes peered at those of Ice, something so dark and sinister within them that it could turn his irises the shade of red. “Go to the cave where it all started tomorrow.”

And with that, he walked away.
