What's up? I'm just a user - you might even call me AGenericUser. Sometimes I do an obscure little thing called roleplay - maybe you've heard of such a thing before? At any rate, there's not really much to tell you about myself. I like JRPGs though, so there's that I guess.
Oh wow, came back to a sudden wave of activity. Left at like, 18 posts, and I come back to 45. Thought I was seeing things. Sorry I couldn't get a post in - was off on an excursion for most the day. I'll try to get one up quick though - though depending on circumstances I mightn't be able to make a whole lot of posts after tomorrow, for three days... but I'll see what I can do about that. No way I'm letting some measly excursions hinder my quest for Gaea.
But yeah, should be able to get a post up soon and all that. And after all those things this week, it should be smooth sailing from there on - in both senses.
Well, things were turning out well for Kobalt. The archer he'd attempted to tail had heard his words, and had appeared behind Kobalt - having leapt down from the trees. The archer had been traveling the forest from the treetops, it seemed - which was a clever and rather interesting plan, even if it weren't something Kobalt would consider using. The archer boy introduced himself as 'Romand Lei Vester'.
'Alright, good. We've made eye contact, so we're set.' Kobalt thought as he glanced at the archer, who had begun to speak - including a mention of how Kobalt apparently saw the boy in the trees. 'Didn't really see him up there, but hey, it'll do. Sounds better than me just yelling at some trees and hoping someone's there, that's for sure. Wouldn't be a great first impression.'
Kobalt began to go through the motions - the motions of introducing himself to another person. He felt that he was getting quite good at it, as the boy in front of him held out his hand - which Kobalt reached out and shook. "The name's Kobalt Zaffre." He introduced himself with a calm tone. "I'll promise you - I know my way around a fight. It's what my family's built on... so, yeah, guess you could say I can fight." He finished his explanation, then looked at the archer, known as Romand. "Gettin' a hunch that you're an alright fighter. Saw a few of your shots earlier... they were pretty good."
Romand had also asked a question regarding Kobalt's weapons - more specifically, how he used them to catch up to him. Raising his left hand upwards to show off his gauntlets, he began to speak. "Wonderin' about these, huh? Can't blame you. These're Whip Gauntlets - I call 'em the Twin Thunderbolts. They're pretty crappy at large ranges - they're great for close to mid-range, though." He continued. "Caught up to you by launching myself with these, I guess. Not that easy to explain, so just keep an eye out next time I use them."
After this, Kobalt glanced over at Romand's weapon. It was a bow, unsurprisingly enough, though it had a rather elegant - even beautiful azure blue design. It was certainly very stylish, though Kobalt found himself wondering more about the utilities of his new teammate's weapon. Could it transform? Did it shoot special arrows? What was his Semblance? Kobalt considered asking, but those questions would likely be answered in due time, within the heat of combat.
"Probably best not to dally too much." Kobalt took a singular step forwards, which was followed by a look at his new partner. "Now that we're all registered in this whole partners business, we should be able to get this over and done with pretty easily. From here, we've only got to get to the relic. Should be no sweat for the two of us, I reckon."
While this Romand fellow was new to Kobalt, he seemed like he'd make a good partner. He seemed like he was a capable fighter from range, and he approached situations carefully - as evidenced by him taking the higher route, the treetops. It seemed like Kobalt had gotten lucky, regarding who he was partnered up with... so far. Interactions: @Darshadow
Not even a day had passed since Eliza had arrived on the small Windward Island - located in the Southern Seas of Aruth. Eliza hadn't set foot on the island before, yet she'd always had a vague interest in it. And the reason for such an interest was simple - what manner of lost artifacts from the old world laid in wait, cloaked by the deep blue veil of the seas? The very possibility of such things intrigued Eliza Rebargo.
Eliza stared longingly at the sea ahead of her, her mind still on the treasures the sea could hold. She did spy dark clouds looking overhead in the distance, but they didn't really hold her attention... at first. What did catch her attention, though, was a rather loud noise ringing through the island that was quickly followed by powerful gusts of wind. "W-whoa?! What's this all about?!" Eliza yelled out in utter surprise, having been caught off-guard, quickly drawing her shield from her back. But by that time, the unusual event had ceased. "I've seen storms, but nothing like that...! That was... a mega storm or something...!"
But at that time, a young voice rung out from behind Eliza. "That's the rock... Gullspire Rock. It's been like that for a while..."
Eliza turned to face the source of the voice - a young boy with jet black hair, and a bandage on his arm. "Hold on, little guy! You alright? That was a pretty scary storm and all!" She questioned, quickly crouching down to meet the boy's height. "If it happens again, just stand behind me! Nothing gets by my mighty shield!"
"I'm not a wuss, you know," The boy scoffed. "I'm not scared of it... it's happened a lot of times already. They're calling out divers to stop it... somehow." He added as he glanced over at the rock - and the storm clouds above in the distance.
"Wait, for real...? I didn't hear anything about this. What a time to drop by this place, huh?" Eliza laughed - it was quite the coincidence. "That'd explain all the diver-looking guys I saw, though... since I'm here, though, I should probably help out. It'd be wrong not to... I wouldn't be able to call myself a diver if I just ignored something like that."
The boy looked up at Eliza with a neutral expression, then reached into his pockets. A few moments passed as he sorted through various things, only to eventually pull out a small note. Taking steps towards Eliza, the boy reached out and passed the note to Eliza, who accepted it and began to read it.
Eliza's eyes darted over the text. An odd storm has appeared near Windward Island. It is unnatural and may be caused by some ancient device. Windward Island hereby requests any divers brave enough to travel to Gullspire Rock and to end this unnatural storm. Payment: 500 shelma, plus any artifacts found... It was a rather interesting note, though certain things piqued her interest more than others - in particular, the artifacts... yet that was nothing compared to the 'ancient device' mentioned.
It was an interesting explanation for these storms, which'd apparently been racking Windward Island as of late. They didn't seem to be any ordinary storms, at least to Eliza. She'd never experienced a storm so powerful that it caused such powerful wind gusts and even quaked the earth... so, what if the source were that of an ancient device, capable of causing such things?
'It's only a possibility, but it's an intriguing one... Eliza thought to herself, pressing a finger to her chin. 'A device that's causing these storms... could the ancient people make something like that? That'd be pretty advanced... but that just adds the question of why they'd make something like that. I can't just let this go unfound. I was already planning to tag into this diver thing, and now? There's nothing in Aruth that'll get my mind off this! I need to know the truth behind these storms, now!'
"Uh... I'm still here." The black-haired boy spoke. "Why're you just staring off into space?"
Eliza smiled. "Well, I was just thinking about these storms and all..." Eliza paused. "Anyways, thanks for that note - I didn't have a clue that stuff like that was going on here. It's some pretty neato stuff, so I'm gonna have to give it a peep. That's my duty as a diver, after all."
"You're a diver? I've always wanted to be a diver, but... I'm not a good swimmer." The boy explained, tilting his head downwards - as if ashamed. "Can't be a diver if I can't swim, right? I just wish I could."
"'You just wish you could?'" Eliza repeated, looking at the young boy. "Y'know, you don't have to wish - if you put your mind to it, then you can definitely do it. That's what I reckon, and I reckon I'm right. So you go out there - and work towards becoming a diver! Sure, you mightn't be able to swim, but neither did I - and here I am now. So, you go out and train yourself... and you'll be a diver sooner than you'll think!"
Looking up, the boy nodded. "I'll... I'll try my best."
"Rightio - that's the spirit!" Eliza replied, and made a thumbs up gesture with her right hand. "Anyways... I'd better be off, if I want to help out with this storm problem. You'd better remember what I said, too! You'll become a diver in no time if you listen to it - I'm sure of it!" And with that, Eliza headed off at a somewhat slow, relaxed pace, hoping that she'd inspired the boy in his endeavors to become a diver.
Eliza's travels eventually led to the docks of the island, which were positively buzzing with activity. Numerous divers from all across the world had set foot onto Windward Island, no doubt seeking to be the ones who solved the whole situation with the storm. Some looked a little fresher to the whole diving business, while others seemed quite a bit more experienced, to say the least.
'Dang... this storm stuff is interesting, though. I'm just dying to know if some device is causing it... because if that's the case, then I'll have to snag it before anyone else!'
"To leave a mystery unsolved is a true crime - and I'm no criminal!"
Age: 24
Gender: Female
Home Sea: Sea of Stars
Aether Sign: Sun - Lightning Focus
Aether Abilities:
Magnetization: An Aether ability making use of electromagnetic fields. Eliza enchants her shield to have the properties of an electromagnetic field - then enchants her blade with electricity. Upon hitting a target, they will become magnetized, being drawn to the shield at a slow pace. Utilizing this ability allows Eliza to take an enemy's attention - however, it does use her aether quickly, so she must use it sparingly. In order to fully utilize this ability, a metallic weapon and shield are required.
Energy Pulse: By slashing her blade against the ground, Eliza can send a small spark of electricity forwards. This spark travels on the ground, and has a low range - roughly six metres. It's not very potent, but it allows her to do at least some damage from range.
Motivation: Eliza, as a lover of things from the past, wants to discover all she can about the world's history - along with making a name for herself.
Personality: Eliza can be summarized as a fun-loving tomboy who'd pursue her goals to the end of time, though she tends to doubt herself - even if she does come off as a little careless.
A young lady with almost insatiable curiosity - at least, regarding the world and its history. Eliza takes an interest in ancient objects like relics and talismans, and enjoys analyzing what purpose they may have had in the past. This interest in the past stems from her family's influence, who are historians themselves. Thanks to this, Eliza has a deep respect for her parents. However, with this in mind, she also feels as if she has high standards to live up to, and while she'd like to say she's definitely capable of it - beneath the surface, doubt regarding this lingers...
Another thing Eliza particularly enjoys are thrills, as she's a bit of an adrenaline junkie. Heading out into danger is an exhilarating experience for her that well and truly gets the blood pumping, for better - or for worse. However, she's not willing to just throw herself into certain death, as she knows better than that... Similarly, she also enjoys trying out new things around the world, and rarely dismisses something as pointless... unless she's tried it already.
To other people, Eliza comes off as excitable and jovial, especially around those she considers friends. However, she has trouble making criticisms of anyone she's acquainted with - as she doesn't want to offend them. She's the type of person to put others over herself, as she desperately wants them to like her. However, to people she doesn't particularly get along with - or sees as a threat, she becomes stand-offish and snappy, her words having far more of a venom to them.
Eliza's main flaw relates to Pride. She believes she's great at what she does, and believes that she can do anything... so, failing to do something hits her hard. It may take her a while to regain her groove after such a happening. Another weakness of Eliza's is that she's not particularly intelligent, outside of history and has trouble explaining things... outside of history, of course. She's rather self-conscious about her intellect and hates being wrong - which can often irritate her. Essentially, she believes she knows more than she actually does.
Along with that, Eliza's primary fear is that of being forgotten, whether that be short-term - such as being left out of something, or long-term. Working with ancient things from several hundreds of years back in the past made her realize just how easily something can be forgotten... and so, she wants her name, and the Rebargo family name to live on as long as they possibly can... as those who located the ancient city of Gaea.
History:
"I'll become a Diver, hell or high water. Then, I'll finally find Gaea!"
Eliza was born in the Sea of Stars, into a family of historians and divers - who sought to unveil whatever secrets the seas of Aluth held... whether that history be above the waters, or within the deep blue below. Yet, the one mystery that nagged away at them was the lost city Gaea... though, despite all the effort they placed into locating this ancient civilization, they never found the city. But a flame still burns for the Rebargo family's goal to locate Gaea... and that flame is Eliza Rebargo, a self-professed Seeker of Gaia.
Eliza is the oldest daughter of three siblings, herself included - whose early life was positively filled with reading tales of adventurers who headed off, exploring the lands and uncovering all manner of things lost to time. Following in the footsteps of her parents, Eliza aspired to become a Diver - her ultimate goal to do what the rest of her family couldn't, and that was to find the lost city of Gaea. No matter what anybody said, Eliza was set on her path. From the age of twelve, she began to train herself in various skills, for when she became a Diver. She would often practice swimming out in the Sea of Stars - and would often practice using various weapons on practice dummies. She particularly enjoyed utilizing a shield - blocking attacks from the enemy would prove useful in combat.
Eliza was capable of utilizing Aether, though her capabilities are average at best - however, even still, she enrolled into the Aetherium, in hopes of becoming able to utilize Aether proficiently. While she wasn't the best student by any means - prone to tuning out when bored, particularly in lectures... but eventually, she managed to control Aether at an adequate level. And from there, only one more step remained... actually becoming a Diver. By now, Eliza was twenty years old, and she felt she was definitely capable of becoming a diver, thanks to all her training. So, she waved farewell to her parents, promising them that she'd definitely become a Diver - and that she'd 'find Gaea, no sweat!' When she arrived at the Sea of Ancients, Eliza headed to the Diver's Guild almost immediately - and signed herself up just as fast, and found that she had what it took.
Being a Diver proved to be quite fun for Eliza... and not only that, but it felt like finding Gaea was closer than it ever had been before, though she was still a rookie diver. From there, Eliza began to take up more and more Diver missions, though two years later - she chose to head to the Southern Seas, for a little time off - and to search for any artifacts that may have gone unfound.
"Eliza... I've heard that you've been trying to become a diver." A tall, bespectacled orange-haired man spoke with a clear voice. "However, please... do not feel as if you are forced to become a diver. Remember - this is your life. It's not anyone else's to steer however they choose."
With a shake of her head, Eliza quickly refuted the man's words. "Dad...! I don't feel forced to become a diver at all. It's all a hundred percent of my own will, and nothing less!" Eliza responded. "I've wanted to be a diver since I was a kid, and I didn't - and won't - let anything stop me. Those're the facts, dad."
Adjusting his glasses, Eliza's father, known as Lepon chuckled. "Why, it's good to see that you're so passionate regarding diving... even through all these years. If the years weren't catching up with me, I'd still be scouring the seas, for-"
"Gaia!" Eliza finished her father's sentence enthusiastically. "The ancient capital of mankind, now lost underneath the waves of Aruth!" The very thought of the city enthralled Eliza. A presumably prosperous city from the past, now fallen to the sands - or rather, seas of time.
Once more, Lepon chuckled, then nodded proudly. "I've taught you well, I see." He pointed his finger, and waggled it back and forth. This was one of the characteristics of Eliza's father.
"Well, yeah! You guys - I mean, you and Mum did a great job raising me and all. Without you two, I don't think I'd have realized how cool the world's history is. It kinda... speaks to me, I guess you could say?" Eliza tried to explain. "Anyways... there's just something really fascinating about things left from older times, right Dad?"
"You know fully well what my answer to that question is, Eliza. I don't think I need to answer it, but," Her father added with a kindly smile smile. "You're completely correct. Even things that others might dismiss as minor are major to us. For instance - this coin, from a civilization long gone. Some may pass it off as junk, yet to me? It's nothing short of an artifact." Lepon reached into his pockets gently, and before long, his hand resurfaced, now with a coin that well and truly seemed ancient. Any sign of a shine was long gone. Lepon handed this to Eliza, whose eyes searched the coin like a hawk. Foreign patterns marked the coin, and it was rather rusted, to say the least... but that was to be expected of a coin in the sea.
"I could be wrong, but... I've never seen a coin like this! Is it from an ancient civilization... Maybe it's from Gaea?!" Her tone was one of excitement as she uttered this, still eying the coin for any hints to its origin. It was well and truly unlike any coin she'd ever seen.
"We never found that out." Lepon explained. "It's certainly a possibility that it came from Gaea, though. It's unlike any other coin, in terms of patterns that I've ever seen. I did some background research, too, and it doesn't seem to have been created by any of the Seas, either... so, I am almost certain that it is a relic from the old world."
"I wonder what that old world was like. I bet it wasn't as watery, for one. But really... what was it like? What was Gaea like?" Eliza spoke. "It's almost incredible to think that however many years of history the old world had, it was all wiped out by the mother sea... yet some of it still remains, deep in the depths of the ocean. It really makes me want to find everything I can from those times, and figure out everything I can about them."
"Eliza,' Lepon addressed abruptly. "I want you to keep that coin."
"Huh?"
Lepon's kindly smile returned, as he met Eliza's eyes. "Consider it a good luck charm... I sure did, back in my diving years. It's only fitting that the next diver of the Rebargo family carries it with them, too. But, if I let you keep that coin, I want you to make a promise. I want you to solve the mystery behind that coin - I want you to discover what I couldn't, as a Diver. So, do you accept?"
"Y-you want me to do what you couldn't...?" Eliza questioned. "That sounds... kinda impossible, if you couldn't manage it, dad..."
"No-"
"Shut it, dad! I'm still talking! Geez." Eliza retorted with a sly grin. "Sure, it might seem impossible, but I know that there's a chance, no matter how small it is, that I could discover both the truth behind this coin... and Gaea!"
Lepon nodded, then hugged his daughter. "Eliza... I'm so proud of you. Now get out there, and show the world who's boss! Leave no mystery undiscovered!"
"To leave a mystery unsolved is a true crime... and I'm no criminal!" Eliza uttered with a serious, determined tone... before cracking up into laughter. "That... sounded lame, didn't it, dad?"
"It did... but it certainly had some charm to it..."
Gear: Currently, Eliza is equipped with a wooden sword - and a metal shield, both of which are key to using her Aether abilities. Eliza thinks they'll do. Along with that, she carries around a necklace with a single, rusted coin attached to it. The origins of the coin are unknown, though Eliza seeks to solve the mystery behind it.
Other: In terms of combat, Eliza's style is more or less to draw an enemy's attention and block their attacks with her shield. Like, I guess you could call her a tank...? Maybe? She's more effective with physical attacks than Aether, at the very least.
She's reliant on having metallic weaponry equipped, if she wants to utilize her abilities.
Nice! It’s good to see a variety of different abilities being brought in. My only question: if her sword is wooden, how does it conduct electricity in her sword attack?
... Oh. Oh.
My bad there! I changed the shield to metal for that ability, but when I was doing that, I think I must've neglected to change the sword, as well. Quite the blunder, I'll admit...
I'll change it in a bit, but one part of me's entertaining the possibility of her not being able to use her electrical abilities until she gets a metallic weapon. That could be a potentially interesting thing... maybe, not sure on that yet.
But yeah, that was an error on my part. My bad, and sorry about that.
Pushed out a few edits to my form, which are in bold. Most notably is that I changed her from being a Water element user to the Electric element user I was hoping to make her. Her water abilities admittedly weren't doing it much for me.
Unfortunately I didn't add a theme, so I am just one half as cool as you guys. Maybe. Feel free to pretend I did, though! That's what I'm doing, pretending I did it. Maybe I'll get to adding one sometime.
I was getting some major Xenoblade 2 vibes from this, so I'm glad to see that it wasn't just me! Always a good thing to hear that something's inspired by the Xenoblade series. However, if there aren't soldiers that are yelling 'don't forget me', then there might be a bit of a problem. Jus' sayin', because those are always highlights.
Anyways, for my character sheet, I'm planning to make a few changes in eight to twelve hours or so. In particular I'll probably be revamping her Aether Abilities - and maybe adding a few more tabs that should flesh her out a little more, motivation wise and all. I'll be putting any changes in bold text on my form, just in case some of it's been read already, too. Won't be able to get these changes in immediately because school and all that, but I'll have them in... soon!
Kobalt strayed not from his path - he didn't know if it headed to wherever he needed to be, but all he could do was hope that he was heading the right way. It wasn't exactly the most thrilling nature walk - the Emerald Forest wasn't the most diverse forest he'd seen. Sure, if you liked trees, you were in for a treat, but so far? He'd seen nothing but trees. It was much like some sort of forest maze. It wouldn't be too hard to get yourself lost in such a vast, similar looking place.
'Still... can't believe Ozpin just flat out dropped us into a place like this. Didn't think he'd be the type to do stuff like that - but that ain't a bad thing by any means. If you can't handle this place, you aren't fit to be a hunter.' Kobalt reminisced, a hand onto his peaked cap - as the previous fight had thrown it slightly ajar. When he felt that his hat was back in the perfect place, he boarded his train of thought once more. 'Speaking of which, can't help but wonder how the other guys are doing. Most of them looked pretty capable, so I doubt any of them got splattered onto the grass or bested by some second-rate Grimm. Hell, I haven't run into anybody, now that I think about it.'
'Anyways, that partner system Ozpin mentioned... first person you have eye contact with, you're teamed with. Wonder how they enforce that. I'm sure some dumb sod's tried to lie about who they saw.' Kobalt continued his walk, still not noticing anything of interest - but emerald green trees, as far as the eye could see. 'I'll need a partner here, anyways. Apparently that's a prerequisite to whatever we're doing here, if I ain't remembering wrong or something like that. Sounds like I'm gonna have to be on the prowl for a partner, then. May as well get this whole business over with.'
After a few more minutes of walking, something finally caught Kobalt's eye, far off in the distance. He was equally curious as to what it was, as he was excited to finally have seen anything of note within the forest. What he spotted as a mass of black - likely a Grimm - being assaulted by some form of thin blue projectile. Kobalt assumed they were arrows... though it didn't matter what they were.
What mattered, is that a person was nearby. It was in Kobalt's best interest to get a teammate, so he needed to catch up to whoever had shot that arrow... not that he'd seen them, but it was still worth a shot.
"Running ain't gonna get me very far... so, looks like it's high time for me to bust out a trick." Kobalt muttered to nobody in particular, as he pointed one of his gauntlets at the ground, then fired off a rope as far as he could. Said rope dug into the ground firmly... and then, Kobalt motioned with his fingers inside the gauntlet. With an audible click, Kobalt was pulled towards the rope with high velocity. Another motion of his fingers withdrew the rope from the ground, which almost instantaneously retracted back into his gauntlets. Eventually, Kobalt came to a stop utilizing his gauntlets to root himself to the ground. He'd reached the area where the Grimm was... if it hadn't been killed. The source of the arrows had killed the Grimm. 'I think I'm close, at least... keep this up, and I'll find whoever this archer is, hopefully. Would suck if they're already in a team, though.'
There was no sign of whoever this archer was, but they couldn't have gotten far - unless they had a Semblance or a weapon that allowed them to traverse the landscape quickly and easily. So instead... Kobalt thought it'd be best to yell out and hope that the person heard it.
"Good shootin', whoever you are! You got a partner!?" Kobalt yelled out. "We're screwed if we don't have a partner, don't think we'll be allowed to finish this whole course thing without one. I ain't a fan of that, and if you ain't a fan of that too, it'll probably be best if you join up with me or somethin'!" Kobalt ceased his yelling. It wasn't particularly his style to yell so loudly, but hey - he needed a partner... but, he could only pray that the archer was nearby and didn't have a partner, for it'd be incredibly awkward if that were the case. Hell, it was already pretty awkward to be yelling about requiring a partner... Interactions: @Darshadow
