MOLE MONEY, MOLE PROBLEMS PART 1

Uskriss was down in Little Chinatown when he felt it. Deep below his feet, there was… a rumbling. Almost like an earthquake…

No wait, that was Alex Wang’s Teriyaki noodles getting to Dathan’s gut. Wincing, Uskriss waved a hand in front of his face, guiding a breeze past his nose, making sure the fart was disprersed.

”Sweet Mother Sky, Day, what in the hell? That’s rancid!”

Grinning wickedly, Dathan slurped up the last of the cheap noodles and fish, and tossed the empty paper cup, plastic fork, and used napkin into a nearby trash can. “What, Uskri, it had to come out sometime, and besides, it’s natural! Us Renores are protectors of nature and all, right?”

Calling upon Yarheg Rockmantle, his earth spirit, Uskri fixed the foundation of a dangerously-tilting apartment building, setting it straight, causing nearby pedestrians to stare at the structure in awe. ”Cow shit’s natural too, little brother, yet I still cleaned it off my boots whenever I stepped in it.”

Dathan shrugged, and was about to say something, when there was an actual earthquake, or at least, what felt like it, to Uskri and his younger brother. Nearby, pedestrians started to run in terror in every direction. It was chaos.

Grabbing his brother, and simultaneously drawing upon his astral sense, Uskri looked at his brother in the eyes, making sure he understood everything. ”I don’t know if this is a Meta attack or a magical one, but I know one thing for sure: that was most certainly not natural. Go, get these people to safety.” Nodding, Dathan ran off, shouting for people to follow him, that he’d keep them safe.

Meanwhile, Uskri went to an empty lot, and stepping into the loose dirt, started burrowing down, using his astral sense to guide him to the…. tubes(?) that were causing the disturbance.

----------------------------------------

After the Earth’s visions faded away David was left in a confused and drowsy state. His mind felt clouded and his vision blurred, but reality gave him a literal slap in the face when the windows in Carmine’s car shattered, the glass popped the airbag in front of him, along with cutting him across his cheek, causing him to flinch in pain.

David cursed slightly as he felt for his wound, wet, but probably not serious. After a few more collisions the dirt from the surrounding tunnel walls began to kick into the car, sparing a quick look at Carmine, David could see he was out cold, and with the airbag in the way David’s secret would be protected.

“Then it’s time.” David mumbled as he summoned the Earth’s power and a blinding light surrounded him, in an instant his body had been switched out with the one the Earth had granted him, becoming Terra Firma once again. After clicking off his and Carmine’s seatbelt, he gently held him, positioned his back against the roof, and kicked off. The sound of metal tearing echoed throughout the tunnel, as he flew up he spared a glance at the car, it’s ruined chassis began to catch flame as it fell past his view.

“Sorry.” David whispered as he flew upwards, turning and twisted as the tunnel did. He finally reached the point where they apparently fell and David felt mostly relieved, especially after seeing the crowd of people that had gathered by the hole, staring at him as he floated up. “This is actually a really dumb idea, what if whatever did this came back up?” David said as he stared back at them.

“Well, we wanted to see what did.” A couple of them replied.

Speaking of which, it would be incredibly irresponsible not to investigate. Not to mention I’m actually personally curious as well.

“Did you do this?” Someone spoke up accusingly, looks like someone had just seen the HOH announcement.

”No. But I’m going to find who or what did.” David said as he brought himself closer to the crowd, towards ground level. ”Take this man to a hospital, please.” David asked, gesturing towards anyone in the area.

“A-alright.” A slightly overweight man said as he nervously walked up, accepting Carmine’s body. “G-g-good luck down there.” And with that the man ran off, David could only trust that the other man was a good samaritan.

After casting a glance at the hole, and the crowd, David jumped down. This time his journey was much smoother.
--------------------------------
Uskriss’ time as a mole was, thankfully, quite short, as he dug himself to a tunnel rather quickly, and popped out from the dirt wall, taking a deep breath, filling his lungs with sweet, sweet oxygen.. He had air while digging, he just didn’t want to breathe in dirt, so he kept his mouth shut. Shaking his head, and flinging dirt everywhere, Uskriss looked up, and then down. There was nothing but sky overhead, so, he supposed, he must go down.

Sliding down the (oddly smooth,) tube, feet kicking up dirt and gravel, Uskriss was on high alert for anything, keeping his astral senses ready. But when he exited the tunnel, he wasn’t exactly sure what he was facing, only that it was quite… weird. Several giant wormlike creatures were crawling away into tunnels, further into the ground, and from the brief glimpse he got, Uskri didn’t like what he saw. They couldn’t possibly be natural. Something did this.

“So… What exactly am I looking at here?”

A worm dropped down a few meters away, but it continued onward by diving into another tunnel closer to the other worms.

”That’s what I want to know too.” David said as he dropped in from the same tunnel the previous worm had dropped in from.

As the worms began to clear out or move more further away, several smaller creatures revealed themselves. They angrily chittered between each other before shouting in their strange language and rushing at their two new intruders, each creature carrying some sort of spear or bladed weapon. As they closed the distance they seemed comically short, almost in the four foot range, but they all decorated themselves in some kind of bone armor, all dirtied by the dirt they seemingly lived in.

Uskri, somewhat surprised by the sudden voice, looked to the source, and saw some… flaming… fire guy. Could he have been behind this? However, Uskri wasn’t about to point any fingers, and the man DID say he wanted to know what was going on as well, so he supposed he could trust him.

While the mole people came out, Uskri studied them carefully, making sure to memorize their astral signature, which was, to be quite honest, pathetically small. Although, Uskri realized, that could work for their advantage underground. They’d be practically invisible.

”Hey there. M’name’s Uskri, you some fire spirit or something?”

As he said this, a mole man, chittering, threw a spear at the Shaman, and it flew past his head harmlessly, clattering on the rocks and gravel behind him. Cracking his knuckles, Uskriss smiled broadly, as he rushed into battle.

”So it’s gonna be like that, huh? Works for me!”

Dashing forward, almost quicker than the eye could follow, Uskri dropkicked the offending mole man, sending him flying back over his fellows, and slamming him into the wall. Leaping to his feet in one fluid motion, he started to strike at the moles around him, grinning and laughing as he dodged and parried their attacks with ease.

”Is that all you got?”

”Names Da, I mean, Terra Firma! As for the fire spirit part, heh, not quite.” David said, trying to play off his mistake with a cough. He shot his gaze at Uskri to see if he was alright as the Moloids began to rush them, he had given half a step in his direction to try to protect him. But seeing in the man in action stopped him short, if he had a mouth right now it would be wide open.

Holy shit. I need to learn how to fight like that too. Something about fire spirits too? David thought as he stared as other man continued to effortlessly toss around the moloids, but a spear whizzing past his head drew his attention back to the creatures.

”So you’re trying to be a hero too? Small city huh.” David spoke as he threw his fist into one of the many creatures swarming them, the skull helmet shattered as the creature’s body slid across the cavern. David’s own attacks weren’t anywhere near as smooth as Uskri’s own moves, but the classic one-two wasn’t failing him here.

A few of the moloids apparently gave up on the idea of fighting David and Uskri as they took a position behind their more aggressive comrades, and blew into small whistles or flutes around their necks. Several odd tunes, if you could call them that, sounded and the ground began to rumble.” Well Uskri, you asked if that was all! I think we’re about to get an encore from those worms!”

As if on cue the ground underneath David ruptured and a nightmarish maw of a hundred teeth swallowed David before he could get over the image. David managed a loud curse as he was quickly swallowed, he could feel as the teeth scratched and clawed against his new inhuman skin, but it was over quickly as he was swallowed. He tried to get a grasp on the inside of it’s ‘throat’ only to slip and fall further into it, the chunks of rock it was swallowing didn’t help either, causing him to tumble deeper in.

”No way I’m getting eaten, by some overgrown earthworm!”

His body crackled with electricity and he drove his fist into any part of the worm he could, but the rocks coming in absorbed it and shattered under his hands, or the worms own contractions threw him off balance to much to affect it. David shouted again, his body responded by this burst of emotion by surrounding itself in fire, and his body shot through the ‘top’ of the worm’s ‘throat’. It’s blood and pieces of it’s spiked carapace shot off it’s body before him, as his body dove through the air in an arc, leaving a trail of dying fire behind him as he calmed down again.

The worm hadn’t made it to it’s intended exit in time, it contorted and spazzed while David was inside, and it collapsed to the ground with a violent thud as David bursted through it’s side.

As a mole man leaped at him, shouting some chittering war cry, Uskriss punched him in the chest, sending him flying up in the air, and laughed. ”An encore, eh? Wonder who the maestro is, then!”

Punting another mole man into a group of his compatriots, Uskriss noticed the creatures pulling back, and blow on some sort of whistle. That’s when he felt the trembling below his feet. Wait, is it going for Terra Firma-

When the worm ate his firey companion, Uskriss was worried, but he couldn’t take any steps to assist him, as he was presently occupied with another one, quite similar to the one that had gobbled up his flaming friend, dropping from the ceiling, mouth-first.

Dodging to the side, Uskriss let the worm slam into the ground, and as it started to burrow through the earth quickly, he grabbed it, his broad arms barely wide enough to get a grip on it, if it wasn’t for his strength, he would’ve had no choice but to let it slip away. As it stood, though, that wasn’t going to happen.

Ripping the worm out of the earth, Uskriss, with a feral smile, began spinning it around, slamming it into the other worms that had begun to come out of the walls, ceiling, and floor, using the worm’s great bulk as a weapon. It worked pretty well, actually. The first few ranks of mole men were completely squashed, and those that weren’t defeated, scattered, running down tunnels new and old, simply hoping to get away. The worms, however, suffered a worse fate.

Imagine a train being spun around, and being used as a weapon. Now imagine that the worms in question were made of tissue paper and jelly. That’s an apt description of what happened. With his weapon battered, bloody, and the host around him decimated, Uskriss turned his attention to Terra Firma, just in time to see the fire man explode out of the worm’s mass, covering him with worm goop.

Laughing, and smiling broadly, the shaman gave two big thumbs up, and said, “THAT WAS AMAZING, MY FRIEND! COME, LET’S FIND OUT WHO’S BEHIND THIS!”

David was slightly shaken from from being swallowed, but hearing Uskriss’s enthusiastic voice centered him again. He felt like it’d be a while before he got used to how crazy having powers would be. ”Oh yeah!” David shouted back with the same amount of fervor his new ally had.
There was some activity on the interest check I think. From what I remember Hellis never said anything but a few of the others basically assumed this was dead, and I guess Hellis just assumed that the rest of use grew disinterested as well. I'm not really sure. I mean I was content to wait, the gm said he/she was workin on the first post not long before that.

It could still be the case that he/she's still workin on it, maybe it'll be the magnum opus of first posts, who knows?

The room around David was moderately spacious, the walls surrounding him where white, one wall featured a set of large windows looking down from the second floor, a tv set to the local news was hanging from a corner, and a brown wooden table in the middle of it all. The table itself was covered in spread out notes, books, and a couple laptops. David had told Carmine that he needed help tracking down another lead, but the real reason, he had to learn more about his powers, and the last version of ‘him’.

As it was he had far too many questions, and the only ones with answers were dead, so he planned to pick over their leftovers the only way an archeologist knew how. But first he had to find said leftovers, and this was bound to be a long process, not something meant to be completed in an hour. So David had decided the time for a break was due and signaled it by stretching his arms outwards and yawning. “All work and no play makes Dave a dull guy.”

“The Shining?” Carmine said, “Is that what you’re referencing?”

“Nope, I’ve never seen that one.”

“That’s a shame, but I think there’s supposed to be a rerun tonight”

“How convenient.”

“This channel always shows ‘classics’.” Carmine said while he threw up air quotes, he changed the channel a moment later and he was right. We’re professionals, is it really okay if we’re so easily distracted? But the movie was interrupted a few minutes in by another broadcast.

“What the hell?” Carmine muttered out as he tried changing the channel, the tv flickered several times but it showed the same man talking each time. Carmine and David both settled in, whoever this was they’d gone through the trouble of hijacking the airwaves for something, and David felt that it was going to involve him somehow. And he was right, the Hounds of Humanity began to talk about their reason for being, their dissatisfaction with the world, and how they were leading a crusade against meta humans among other things. They want to wipe out everyone who isn’t human, they’re crazy. Surely they realize that here are metahumans who side with humans, no, who are human?

The casual mood that he and Carmine had adopted that night was long gone, and even though the broadcast had ended, an ominous feeling had invaded the room. David and Carmine were unable to make more headway on adding to their notes and decided to retire for the night.

The university’s library had begun closing down so David and Carmine decided to go their own ways for the night, except that David had nowhere else to go, so Carmine offered to lend him his couch for the night. It was a decently long drive, almost an hour now, the whole trip David had been giving serious thoughts to his own future, while the radio news and late night talk shows kept talking about the HoH. Not only were they still talking about the HoH’s announcement, but apparently they were no claiming responsibility for a few attacks. David felt a responsibility to attack these hounds, stop them somehow, but he wasn’t a cop or a psychic, he had no way of finding them, and he hoped the same went for them.

Although his mind wouldn’t be one of the ones affected by the nexus’s arrival, and with no powers outside of his other body, he would have had no idea anything happened. But the Earth itself was affected, and via their connection, so was he. Multiple visions flashed in his head, some he thought were memories, some were just weird and out of place. Trying to latch onto something to avoid the overload of images he reached out, and felt something. In an instant his senses were overwhelmed, instead of the inside of a car he found himself surrounded by a heavy fog, when he looked to gaze down at his own hands David saw his body had changed. It seems at some point he had called for his powered body.

“When did I?” David whispered to himself in confusion, looking around, he thought he could make out the silhouette of someone standing in the distance, the fog made it hard to determine any discernible features.

“Who are you?” David yelled out. The head looked as if it moved slightly to face him, and then it looked away again. How rude.

“Oh shit?” Carmine muttered as soon as he realized he was driving through an earthquake, or at least he thought he was. A low growling sounded from somewhere underneath him, he almost assumed it was part of the earthquake if it didn’t sound so guttural, so organic. He had intended to pull over his car so he and David could take cover in a building, but something forced the ground underneath them to become unstable.

What carmine didn’t know is that underneath him a group of massive worms had been tunneling for their masters, pre digging tunnels in preparation for an invasion of the surface. However, psychic waves emanated from the Psionic Nexus unsettled and even confused some of these creatures, causing some of them to dig even further to the surface, where their psychic induced spasms induced a slight breach in the earth. After a few seconds, their psychic inflicted confusion passed and the worms retreated deeper into their own lairs in fear. Unfortunately for Carmine he was one of the few to be around these small breaches, and fell into the tunnel after the worms.

Having already fallen Carmine knew he couldn’t escape via the door anymore, so he cursed out loud, honked his horn, desperately hoping someone could save him somehow, but a few seconds later the Earth had swallowed him completely, and his car started tumbling down as if falling down a tunnel. A few moments later he passed out due to the multiple collisions the car took, along with being tossed and turned like clothes in a washing machine. Both his and David’s bodies jerked wildly in their seat belts as their car fell, the varying sounds of clanging metal as the car slid down the tunnel.
@Afro Samurai

Well you should know that we are a lot more active on the discord. But the Hounds of Humanity arc just started, here's the starter post. roleplayerguild.com/posts/4254042

There's also a season 1 summary up on the first ooc page, or at least it links to one. You'll find it super easy.

Location: Local Department Store
Time:1:30pm

David stood amidst the ruined shopping aisle, various products lay scattered around, some were battered but intact with only a few scratches or small dents indicating anything had happened. Most looked as if they had been thrown and dragged around the entire store, existing now in multiple pieces, or thrown out of their containers and scattered into the surrounding area as a part of the debris. The aisle shelves bowed outwards slightly to reflect the damage from the earlier supersonic screaming, and the lighting fixtures in the area blinked incessantly as if desperate to stay on. The floor tiles were also scattered into dozens of tiny pieces, along with being turned into finely crushed powder from underneath David’s feet as he slid. He turned around to face the voice from earlier; David knew he was in trouble, the other man seemed to fancy himself as a hero as well, only he seemed to be lacking in costume and appearance with only his welding mask offering any real protection.

Listen to me; this is all a big misunderstanding!” David pleaded, he really didn’t want to get into a fight with a hero, it certainly wasn't the ideal debut.

“A misunderstanding huh? You look at this aisle, and tell me that this is a misunderstanding.” The man spoke back accusingly.

David wanted to explain himself, but trying to blame it on a bird lady with no witnesses wasn’t going to help him. But it seems the man no longer had any intention of talking and flew into a dive, aiming to drive his fists into David’s chest. David swiftly raised his arms up to block the man as he rammed into him, as their bodies collided David was thrown through the wall and outside, leaving an more than obvious hole in he wall. The hero that had just hit him followed after him in the air, clearly intent on continuing the fight outside.

Outside a small number of police cars blocked off a part of the road, apparently ready to move inside had they been called inside. Thanks to the hit from the earlier hero David was on course to crash right into a car and the men hiding behind it. So he desperately tried to correct himself mid-air somehow, and from what he believed to be a miracle or luck, David was able to adjust his body so he was now facing the road. In the split-second he had, David thrust his arms out and pushed his body upwards, so that he wouldn’t come careening into the car. The back of his hand accidentally crushed a side-view mirror, and scratched the top of the car as he lifted off into the air only to be grabbed by the leg. The hero that had sent him flying had continued by following up into a spin and threw David down back towards the road. David landed leaving a small depression in the road as he bounced and skidded across the road, giving off a grunt as he crashed into the ground.

“Usually I get a name before I get rough with my partners.” David quipped as he began to rise onto his feet again; although this other hero was strong, he wasn’t tough enough that he could actually take David down like this. But between Berenice’s screaming, and this new guy’s pummeling, David was starting to feel it.

“Sledge, when you’re sitting in wherever they put super villains you can tell’em Sledge sent you.” He said, with a hint of pride in his voice, it seems he has experience in the hero world.

Then you can call me, Terra Firma.” The name sounds cool to me, and it’s somewhat related, so let’s see if it’ll catch.

Sledge came down again, seemingly ignoring David's words, coming at him just like last time, except there was more space between them now. David narrowly dodged Sledge, grabbed him from the side, and slammed him into the ground stunning Sledge for a few seconds.

Logically there was no way the cops could tell what either hero was really like, but they apparently decided to take their chances with the human looking one as they opened fire on David. However, the bullets pelted off him harmlessly, a growing amount of bullets bounced off him and fell onto the ground. Although David was currently bulletproof, he wasn’t used to it and jumped slightly as the guns went off, instinctively using his arms to guard his head and body.

I need to get out of here, no telling how things will escalate. Not to mention that I actually don’t want to hurt anyone, much.

Sledge shook himself and rushed David with a right hook; David dodged it but received a blow to stomach for his efforts. David threw a fist out himself, and followed up with a jab to the other hero’s head. Sledge had managed to catch the first punch, but found himself surprised at the power behind it, because of this he didn’t see the other punch coming and it hit him just off the side of his face. The mask dented with an audible ‘clang’ and Sledge flew back with a guttural sound, he tried to get back up but collapsed back onto the ground after softly mumbling something.

Alright he’s down for a little while now, maybe I can use my lightning to blind everyone and get away.

David held out a hand in front of him and electricity began to crackle between his fingers for only a moment before it dissipated, as if responding to his desire a new feeling began to take hold. Streams of yellow energy gathered around his body, David began to direct them towards his hand and a yellow orb began to form itself. It grew to the size of a football before David noticed the cops yelling to each other about something. This is definitely a good time to book it.

Don’t blink or you’ll miss this!” David shouted as he slammed he orb downwards, it exploded and a brilliant flash of light exploded outwards. David flew towards the fallen Sledge and took off with him, intent to lose any cameras following them in the alleyways. As the light dissipated the nearby cops realized both ‘metahumans’ were long gone.

Location: Park
Time:1:45pm

Sledge awoke to a man shaking him awake under the shade of a tree.

“Sir, are you alright? Were you mugged?” David asked, now human again, doing his best to keep a straight face by swarming the man with questions.

“Huh, where am I? Who are you?” Sledge asked as he groggily rubbed his face, before quickly coming to reality. He quickly patted himself down, apparently checking for his wallet and mask, both of which were in his pocket and backpack respectively. He stopped as he gingerly rubbed a new bruise on his face.

“Calm down, you're in a park. Are you missing anything, do you remember your name?”

“No,uh, I'm fine. Uh, did you see how did I got here?" Sledge asked, seemingly regaining his calm.

Damn, he didn't give his name, oh well. It's fine I guess, I did the same too. David thought to himself as he continued to act innocent.

"No I didn't, I was out here on a walk and I spotted you."

"Thank you, but I'm fine. I gotta get going but thanks for checking on me." Sledge said, seemingly earnest in his thanks, he quickly stood up and ran off.

As soon as the man was out of sight David collapsed onto the tree behind him and let out a heavy sigh. Man that was exhausting, I did that to protect your identity too, but I’m not even sure I protected mine well enough.

“Ah, wish I could call Carmine to bring me to the university. That Berenice thing left me with a killer headache." David mumbled under his breath as he massaged the side of his head.
Your post apparently.
