E: It's not necessary that Shannon join Arnold's guild, both guilds and towns fit equally well in the bio, it's just a matter of switching some words. Whichever fits the current circumstances best.

Shannon, the Amaura

Name: Carrol Shannon. Although he doesn't dislike the name or its descendant Carl, he instead takes pride in his tribe's name, Shannon.

Species: Amaura.

Gender: Male.

Level: 8.

Shannon's voice, as is typical for his species, can be very forceful when need be, so even in his young age he can sound an intimidating cry. His icy power is not well-developed yet, but Shannon can breath a stinging gust of frost to defend himself. An early trick his species learns is to manipulate the charged particles powering his crest, releasing an electrical pulse to stun an opponent.

Bio: The Aurorus tribe from which Carrol came was made up of the Shannon family, and lead by elder Alaois Shannon. The Shannons occupied a wide range of tundra and taiga at the base of a series of near-Polar mountains, and their power serves as an indirect safeguard against other encroaching species. While Aurorus are not Pokemon inclined to combat, Alaois's Snow Warning amplifies the climate that keeps the territory exclusive, and gives strength to the other Ice-types, the task maintained by Abomasnow within the range itself. Carrol hatched into this peaceful environment, and from birth he looked up (in every sense of the word) to the towering figure of Alaois, even more so than he did his own parents. Carrol proved to have no lack of ability himself, although not a Snow bringer. Carrol could manipulate ice and aurora with subtlety and travel with endurance and patience. Crowning his talents, however, was his voice, singing clear and cheerfully along with his elders and peers among the Shannon.

Ceaseless efforts to impress Alaois and learn from him did not go unnoticed. The elder was aging, and Carrol seemed the perfect candidate for the next leader once he matured. Although talk was light and patient, it wasn't hard to predict what would have occurred: Alaois would pass on and his Snow Warning daughter Etna would lead until Carrol wooed her and took the Shannon into his care. The inevitable, unspeakable catastrophe took form in the eruption of a million-year dormant but monstrous volcano on the range above the tundra. Forests burned, glaciers melted, and the plains were covered in ash. Etna died by chance, crushed by a stone hurled by the explosion. Alaois never recovered from the loss.

Following the grief-driven death of Alaois, the Shannon left the plain for parts of their range that had fared better. The ecosystem, however, had been dealt a mortal blow. With no artificial cold on the plains and the permafrost irrevocably destroyed, the border of the Polar realm was pushed back, and tundra became fertile, if wintry, grassland. While other species eventually adapted to the warmer climate and more aggressive newcomers, the Aurorus had held the over-specialized niche of providing snow to a now-dead biome, and were not built for the rocky environment of the mountains. The Shannon, though leaderless, made the decision to abandon their home and their natural life rather than stand their ground and dwindle with the years. Carrol and his family migrated to seek a town where Pokemon of any type could shelter. The journey was not as long as they had expected, but the town they found presented a crisis: It was too small to support the entire tribe without crushing the native population under the burden. Two Aurorus stayed, but the remainder moved on. That was how the Shannon tribe died. No town could support them all, and they no longer fit into any natural habitat. At each settlement some departed.

Kiera and her son Carrol were strong and patient, though Carrol had been struck terribly by the death of Aloais. By the time the Shannon reached Allure town, they were all that was left, and they had traveled the furthest. Kiera supported herself in Allure with her strength and size, carrying smaller Pokemon when the need arose, knowing that despite their love her son would find another parental figure, as he had done before with Alaois. Carrol, indeed pining for a new hero to look up to, disillusioned by the death and separation he had seen, latched onto the most powerful figure in town, Arnold the Guildmaster.

Tap tap tap. A patient wait in the early morning chill, then a wooden latch opened. The stationed 'mon recognised neither the figure, nor the fuchsia glow in the darkness. Whoever had knocked had drawn back again. "Step into the firelight," the query came, perhaps with a little too much suspicion. Whoever it was didn't seem urgent for help. Then why this bothersome time of morning? "Why're you here? Who's knocking?" The figure approached calmly, and the lights revealed themselves to be crests above a pair of serene eyes. "My name is Carrol, for myself," the Amaura complied, in a melodic voice that promised peace, if not friendship. "But know me as Shannon, for those who are gone. I wish to join your guild."

Appearance: Shannon has a long, sweeping tail, at least in comparison to other Amaura, which helps him keep his lofty head balanced. Like others of his species, Shannon's crests change colour with mood, but they usually tend towards a purple-ish pink.

Differences: Shannon's level-up movepool will include more sound and song moves than usual. Moves learned will be Sing, Relic Song (although it has no extra effect for him other than being boosted by Refrigerate), and Perish Song.

Well, I think that turned out quite nicely, probably better than the delusional Baltoy I had before. Anyway, this is my first roleplay in a while, so I'm looking forward to it. ^.^

Destroyed by the forum reset because sticky notes are apparently a bad place to keep backups, that's where they've gone. -.- Luckily they were two fairly mediocre character sheets anyway, so no huge loss. I'm going to see if they can be recovered, but probably write something new anyway.

Mmm... Definitely interested, as the mechanics look very nicely adapted for roleplaying and the story is interesting, although the rejection of retroactively changed movepools and typing, and to a lesser extent about 228 of 721 species of Pokemon does put me off somewhat, especially as I can't really see the reasoning behind it.

Question: How do we account for France/Kalos having a canon classical era stretching back several hundred years, and why has no-one yet seen fit to make enough voyages around the globe to discover North America and Europe before now?

I'm assuming your answer to this is that the Pokemon world's geography and ours are no longer implied to be analogous, and are completely different. Kalos and Unova are comparatively tiny landmasses far, far away from Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh, and exploring a big empty ocean is accepted to be a waste of time. Kalos will be 'discovered' in the next fifty years and then brought up to speed on technology somehow, and Unova has yet to be settled but for that mysterious 3000-year-old dead civilization that a lot of regions seem to have.

I'm also assuming that there will be no mega-evolution, obviously. No big loss there.

Oh, one last question: ...How exactly do you justify the aforementioned typing and moveset (level-up and egg moves, of course) changes not being present in this roleplay's canon? Is this an outright modification to the canon, or can you explain it by 'different regions have different populations of the same species, which later on exchanged genes/moves/elemental affiliation when contact was made'? On a similar note, does this apply to basic alterations/inclusions to battle mechanics, for example Triple and Sky Battles, the Knock Off buff and other move alterations, and type-based immunities (Grass to spores and powders, Ghost to trapping, Electric to paralysis, etc.)?

Please don't see any of this as an attack on your opinion of how the Pokemon world could/should have been some ninety-ish years later, the decision just confuses me. I'm assuming you selected the four regions you did because they're all based mostly on regions in Japan (or so I'm told), and, barring the anorexic blank-eyed fairy cat (which is easily explainable), none of the fifth and sixth generation Pokemon are related to the first through fourth generation evolution families.

Oh, REALLY last thing this time: I'd love to have dibs on Staryu/Starmie for character-owned Pokemon. :P
