Current So I'm not cool enough to do it, but I think a Pokemon based Nation RP would be cool. Jussayin.

Today is a day of sadness. It is the day I quit partaking of the drink of my lord and savior, Lord Coffee Bean. I shall be very grumpy for the next three weeks.

Genres/Other

I'm all about that fantasy. I can mix it with other genres, such as sci-fi, slice of life, etc. but I generally stick to fantasy settings. As long as something supernatural or mystical is afoot, I'm interested. I generally like adventure, exploration, and conversation more than action and fighting in my roleplays as long as everyone is having a good time. I enjoy tabletop RPGs such as Dungeons & Dragons, Scion, Dungeon World, and Ryuutama.

This is how the character sheet is looking so far, but I've been working on ideas for the combat and how it should work. Basically, my idea is to treat it like your abilities have "cooldowns", temporarily unable to be used after you use it. These cooldowns would be only on abilities, so things like basic attacks, ranged, melee, or magical, wouldn't count. A basic attack of any kind would be like "The swordsman swings his sword at X, and manages to hit!", or "The pistol user aims a shot at X, and manages to pierce X's armor!", or "The mage points their staff at X and shoots a magic missile from the orb at the end, hitting X".

These would be purely damage of slashing (swordsman), piercing (pistol), and magical (mage). They would each have strengths against different things. Slashing could be excellent against tentacles or anything with flesh, while pistols would work extremely well on armor or carapaces, while a magic basic attack would be good against most things unless they had high magic tolerance.

You would then get 4 abilities unique to that class which would do extra things. Our swordsman might get a Flurry Strike attack, which allows them to go into a frenzy and zip from one target to the next, up to 8 targets to deal moderate initial damage with a bleed. Or pistol user might get Bullet Storm, which would allow them to let out a barrage of bullets in a target area, inflicting critical damage. The mage might get an ability called Meteor, which would summon a large fiery rock from the sky to plummet to the earth and cause massive fire damage.

The cooldowns for these abilities would be stated in "posts". So, Flurry Strike cooldown = 1 Post (so it's able to be used every other post), while Meteor might have a cooldown of 2 posts, due to it's power.

Of course the classes will either be made by us communally, or players can craft these classes themselves and the GM can review it to make sure it's all okay.

Any and all feedback is welcome.

Here's the CS so far:

You've been summoned together to the battle against the monsters and madmen who plague our world. Every time you and your stalwart companions defeat one of these bosses, you will drive it back into the Nether... for a time. Eventually they will crawl their way back into our world, and you will need to defeat them again. This is the never-ending cycle of madness that permeates our world, but you can alleviate it all the same to provide humble folk some peace and tranquility in their lives, a respite from the chaos that they have endured so that our world may thrive anew.

What happens if you yourself die, you ask? Worry not, heroes. We have placed your soul in a Reliquary, so that if you perish in battle you will come back here so that your flesh can be remade as many times as necessary. We will provide you with weapons and armor so that you can be best equipped to handle the threats that loom on the horizon. We are in your debt, heroes, for we could not do this without you all.

Name:
Place your character's name here, whether it is a code name, a nickname, or just their first or last name. Be creative, but try not to name them close to the other names of the characters in the RP. Having two Zephyr's running around would be confusing.

Age:
Self explanatory, but should reflect how you roleplay your character.

Gender:
Male, female, or androgynous?

Race:
This section is a work in progress and will reflect the options available to pick in the roleplay. Each different race will have bonuses to go along with them passively. If you want a race included, you need but mention it and we might be able to work something out for you.

Class:
This section will be where you list your class and will reflect the options available in the roleplay. Because of the sheer amount of work that goes into making classes, we wont be taking suggestions for classes right away, but as time goes on we can include more. It's mostly just because of the workload involved, not pickyness or exclusion. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Powers:
This is the area where you put Powers, such as magical ability or supernatural strength, etc. etc. These will be tied into your class and we will have a list for you to peruse.

Skills:
Though this may seem like the area to put Powers, they're actually quite different. A skill can include things like “charisma”, “agility”, “reflexes”. We'll have a list written out for each class to be able to choose from.

Persona:
This is a personality section, yet it will mainly reflect how you might act in battle. Are you brave and foolhardy, cool and calculating, or a coward and backstabber? Most of the time, this will go hand and hand with your “class”. i.e. mages might be more cool and calculating, whereas warriors would be more brave and foolhardy – however, you can make your character a bit more unique than that. Have fun with it.

Background:
This is mostly a fluff and flavor section to give your character more of a presence. Keep it somewhat short and sweet. It can be expanded as you keep roleplaying the same character, to include their exploits in combat.

Bonds:
This section will be for you to begin writing down your relationships in regards to the other characters as you guys battle alongside each other. Do you hate that stupid archer because they accidentally put an arrow through your shoulder during that fight with the Minotaur? Or do you cozy up to the druid so they can mend your wounds, even if they are a tree-hugging hippie? Bonds will be in a format like below:

Name of Friend Here | Their Class | How your character feels about them

  • A list of the fights you've participated in together and how the outcome went can be put in a list such as this.
  • It might help you keep track of your adventures together with the other roleplayers.

Other:
The ever-famous “Other” section. Personally, I always try to include a song that fits my character into this spot. This can be instrumental music, pop music, etc.
The grandiose ball room resembled an odd mixture of high tech meets medieval, with nobility and officials milling about in their finest, whether that be a decorated uniform of a general or the flowing ball gown of a lady – to contrast this, robotic sentries sat motionless at their stations near the entrances and every couple of feet around the walls. They were mostly ignored, unless you were trying to get into the party. In which case you had to present the uniquely crafted ring that had been sent out as invitation to attend this gala.

Shara played with the ring she had received, twirling it around her ring finger over and over again. She had abandoned her usual attire for this gala, instead being forced into a simplistic black dress cinched at the waist with a wide band. On her right wrist was a rather peculiar bracelet, and she wore flat shoes. No one couldn't force her into anything heeled. Heels meant tripping, and tripping when you were in her line of work meant something worse than a sprained ankle.

As she walked up to a sentry to be permitted in, she had to wonder where her partner, Atlas, was. She held out her ring for the robot to scan, and the robot let out a small beep as the light from it's singular eye pinpointed the signet on the face of the ring. “Welcome to the gala, Miss Kazan.” It finally said as it regained it's upright posture.

She felt her heart leap to her throat. What the fuck?! How does it know that name? She pulled her hand back and glanced about, making sure no one was close. “T-thank you.” Shara mumbled and marched away from the sentry with a determined stride, refusing to look back at it. If it knows, then somebody else here knows. The person who hired me? That would make the most sense... Whatever! I'll think about it later, this isn't the time for that. She glanced about the room, looking first for Atlas, who she did not yet see, and then for the Archduke. She had received a photograph of him, and she visually recalled it in her head.

Male, mid to late thirties, usually wears ornate armor, even to events such as these... As Shara scanned the crowd, she noticed a small gathering around a male fitting exactly that description.

She couldn't help but think that the cape was a bit... flamboyant. As she examined him, his eyes flicked to her and she felt a chill run down her spine as they locked eyes. He gave her a small smile, polite if you didn't notice the look in his eyes. Why does every single nobleman have to be a lecherous pig? Shara couldn't help but suppress a sigh and return the smile charismatically. She was here to get closer to him, and he was used to people giving him praise. He seemed self-important, even from this distance.

She faded into the crowd once again, so that she could watch him from a distance. Those around him seemed to hail from all walks of importance. Out of the fourteen, at least four were extremely well off merchants – the way they held themselves without the proper etiquette demanded from nobility was an easy tell. They didn't hold themselves like warriors, but a surprising amount did. Five warriors, or at least people used to combat, stood around him. Three were in the clothing of generals in the Empire's army, while two seemed like extremely lethal mercenaries. The two mercenaries, one obviously male from his muscled body and the other androgynous, set Shara slightly on edge.

Out of the fourteen, nine were not born nobility. That surprised her greatly, men like him usually didn't associate with anyone less than a lordling. The other five were nobility, three men and two women, obvious from their attire and the way they looked down their noses at everyone save for each other and the Archduke. The group was so varied that Shara could have spotted something amiss a mile away, yet no one else seemed to pay the odd gathering any mind. I guess that's what kind of power comes with being the Archduke.

She would have to learn the names of those in question, yet how? How do you approach people mingling with somebody that high up on the social food chain? She looked through the people again, trying to pick out one of the weaker links.

Bingo. One of the merchants, a chubby man wearing slightly less expensive clothing than the rest. They could follow him out of the gala, and begin there... She would record the appearances of the rest of those gathered. She wouldn't touch the mercenaries with a hundred-foot pole, yet she still included them as she activated her bracelet. It barely made any sound as it snapped photos of each of those she indicated. She made sure to keep moving and appearing to mingle with the other guests. Most everyone, especially the younger noblegirls, only required her to compliment them and give them a small bow. They would walk away pleased and happy after receiving flowery words, and they helped keep her cover up.

Now, where was Atlas and what was he doing?
I'm willing to continue with a limited number of people. We could make it fun.
I'm actually going to be changing my character's first name so that it isn't so close to Yuki. I can see the two getting mixed up if we're not careful. I'll update it in her character sheet. :]

Also also, I'm seeing a lot of people mentioning their characters being in delinquent groups or having delinquent friends; given the OP for the IC will be going up tomorrow at the latest, just posting to say that if you want any of your characters to have connections and established relationships in advance of the RP, now's the time to sort those out.

For one, I don't mind throwing Kiyoko into someone's delinquent group; anyone want a lazy, hedonistic spinster rolling with their crew?

I agree with you. A lot of the characters are 14, so we could all be in the same class, or know each other through mutual acts of delinquency.

edit:

Yui Nagisa is now known as Hikaru Kousaka. ^^
I can post again and try to keep the story going?
That was so freaking... brutal. I can't help it, I laughed at some parts. okay, at all the parts.

Basically this how I imagine you looked throughout the post:

At the beginning:

Middle to end:
@notdeadyet That's okay, I'll start working on something and post it here for other people to critique and add on to. It's a community project after all, it seems fitting. :]

EDIT:

I've been working on it, I just wanted to let you guys know. :D
Oh okay, I didn't know if what I had was too strong or not (since she could theoretically have a lot of shadow summons out at once, or some very big ones.) I wanted to make something that other people could have fun using their powers on, so my character's power is essentially punching bags or training dummies until she melds the smaller ones together. I'll give her the ability to phase into shadows or something, if that's okay?

Are we mostly fighting other magical girls/humans or do we have any monsters we might face?
A spin-off 1x1 between @Desire and myself with our characters Atlas and Shara.

As you rest in your room, a soft scraping sound echoes in your ears. Whether you're asleep or merely meditating, this sound jolts you to awareness and you search for the culprit. A slim disk, the size of a small plate, has been fit underneath your doorframe. When you touch it, you feel a prick on your finger from a beam of light, and then the disk whirs to life and you are greeted by the holographic visage of an Oxidal Female.

"With the looming war between the Warden Kingdom of Juren and the Empire, many would assume that is the most prevalent threat to peace. Gazes have long since been turned in breathless anticipation for the tensions to rise and escalate into a catastrophe between the two sovereign powers.

While the collective gaze has been distracted, none have noticed the strange happenings within the very Empire itself. Missing persons in the thousands have been reported, peasants living in rural areas and in the slums of the cities, unimportant to those with power. An unwanted problem, so they put the issue to the wayside for many months.

Now, however, the issue has become much more pressing. An Erdevar Ambassador from Juren brought his twin daughters with him to Asturias, and they were whisked away in the middle of the night. Due to any negative reverberations this may cause regarding the war, the Ambassador has been put under "house arrest" within his quarters in the royal palace, unallowed to leave or message Juren regarding the matter.

And now I'm contacting you, Atlas the Shadow and Shara of the Veil, in regards to a very delicate mission. Without proper evidence, we cannot hope to put the most likely suspect under questioning. Who is he, you are probably wondering? The Archduke Viktor, uncle to the Empress Katarina. Both of you possess skills which will be crucial to this task, and you have limited time to get to the root of this.

I have secured you a place in the royal gala taking place on the morrow, pray attend and watch the Archduke's comings and goings. If you speak a word of this to anyone other than eachother, you will find it to be a very sore mistake.

Vi."

The disk powers down immediately after she says the word "Vi", and offers no other identifyer besides those obscure letters. As you inspect the disk, something catches your eye. A ring with an odd signet on it, imbedded into the back of the disk. Plucking it out and wearing it will prove that it seems to be fit perfectly to your ring finger, and when equipped it seems to make you feel more powerful, as if supplying you with life force.

Left without much choice, you feel conscripted to attending the gala. You have heard rumors about your partner to be, perhaps you've ran into them once or twice but cannot remember the incident completely. Whatever the case may be, you hope that you they will not get in your way.
