TIME SKIP
Date: November seventh 1879
Time: 6 am
Weather conditions: The light is still dim outside in the chilly autumn air and the sun is slowly making an upwards path into the sky. It's partly cloudy, and it looks like it will remain the same way the whole day. A slight breeze, and the temperature is a bit cold, seeing as it's both early in the morning and that winter is approaching quickly. About 36 F or 2 C. A light dusting of frost covers the ground like powdered sugar
-Greta-
Greta started in surprise as a loud explosion further into the forest bellowed, almost losing her grip on the branch that she was holding on to. Quickly readjusting her position with the reflexes only a vampire could posses, she watched as smoke started rising up into the sky. Unsettled, she glanced around, her eyes not picking up much that seemed unusual. After the boom had dissipated into the chilly air, Greta took a deep breath, and looked up into the sky. The moon was slipping down the horizon-it'd be dawn within two hours at most. She jumped down from the tree, landing effortlessly among the underbrush of twigs and spiny bushes, dead leaves crackling under her feet.

Greta peered into the shadows, looking for the elusive individual who had set the bombs or whatever they were. She was interested in finding this person-it seemed like they shared a common enemy, as she could faintly pick up clipped voices conversing a hundred feet or so down the path, talking about those "cursed vampires" and their "disgusting tricks". Hunters. Greta hurried down back into the village, moving with a superhuman speed. She couldn't afford to be seen at this time, especially since she was on her own and it sounded like there were at least three or four talking. Greta's senses, speed, and strength were all pretty average for a vampire. Average for a vampire was enough to take down a single human in a few seconds; but when it was a whole group of them, a vampire had to rely on the powers they had naturally been given after turning. Greta's gifts lacked the firepower needed in a fight. True, she could find someone's weakness if necessary, but this was only vital during combat if she could actually act upon it. She quickened her pace, hoping to bypass a confrontation.

Greta sighed in relief as she reached the outskirts of the village, walking briskly onto a street and making her way to the town square area. Locals were out and about, which was strange for this time of night. What had happened? She approached the nearest villager she could find, a gangly man with dark brown hair and a kind expression on his face. "Excuse me, sir," she said almost timidly, catching his attention. "Do you know what's going on?"

The man shrugged, a small smile playing at the corners of his lips. "There was a fight of some sort I think, probably just a tavern brawl," he said with a soft chuckle. "Though the loser of the brawl seemed strange...whitest skin I've ever seen, blinded by something. I'm not too sure. His teeth were peculiar as well, hooked and wicked-looking, almost like fangs. The more superstitious lot are spreading rumors about him being a vampire, but that's just nonsense," he continued.

"Thank you very much," Greta responded quietly, nodding a polite goodbye and walking in the direction of the cottage she and Stella shared. Unlike the man she had just encountered, Greta knew better. There was a vampire somewhere out there, and if there was one, well, there could be a multitude of them lurking in the shadows. If all of them could join and fight for a common cause...why, the possibilities were endless!
