"Me? Bother the thief?" Maucolyn scoffed, "As a merchant, I can honestly say that is the last thing I wish to do, young miss. I agree to your terms on the condition that this boy not shoplift my wares again."

He glanced at the boy as Raine went to place the coins in his open palm, "I'll be more than happy to leave him alone if that so be the case."

"Agh!" Maucolyn cried. He scrambled to catch the coins as they fell, his brow furrowing in a less-than-pleased manner. His love for money being much stronger than his irritation with Raine, however, he hurried to collect the coins without complaint and quickly counted them before motioning for Leon to let the boy go. Leon set the boy on the ground and untied him, clearly disgusted by the corruption of justice he had witnessed. He was given 5 silver pieces as payment for catching the boy.

With that, the party dispersed, leaving only the boy and Raine once more. The orcs sighed irritably as they left, muttering complaints to each other in their orcish tongue. The boy, from his position on the ground after being untied, shot her a baffled look before diving for the broken table, obviously looking for the object he'd dropped.

Elspeth's eyes lit up, evidently recognizing Rowena's voice now, "You! You're the one that's been botherin' me in my dreams."

Rowena's smile quickly faded into a frown, "Bothering? Ah... I'm sorry if you found them unpleasant. But there's a good explanation-- I promise. There are a few others like you, though-- they should be here so--"

Rowena stopped suddenly, lifting her head to look past Elspeth and down the hallway where two girls stood-- almost as if she sensed them rather than heard or saw them. The closest had long red hair pulled back into a braid. She seemed to be much shorter than the woman who lingered behind her with short brown hair pulled up into a loose bun. Their manner of dress seemed quite similar, a detail that Rowena quietly took note of as she called out to them.

"Oh, good. Two more," she smiled with relief. Her gold irises drifted between them with an otherworldly sheen. With her hood still lowered, she appeared to be human, albeit somewhat foreign. "I believe the others will be here soon. But... until then, please come with me."

The inside of the shack was very worse for wear. Rusty shovels, hoes, and an old axe were stacked in a cobweb covered corner. Dusty wooden crates lined the room in disarray-- it was too dim to read their faded labels. Two broken flower pots lay shattered on the ground; the shards of clay rested on the scattered soil. A few pairs of gloves, a mud caked coat, and some filthy looking cloth cluttered the workbench that was placed beneath the grimy light-shunning window.

"Z-zanna," the girl seemed to choke on her words as she continued trying to catch her breath. She turned away from Brande suddenly and coughed hard into her palm.

"Oh," she muttered with frustration. Turning back around, she held open her hand to reveal a good amount of blood. She apologetically began to wipe it on her dress while stifling another cough with her clean hand. "Sorry-- I... I need to sit down for a sec."
Posts will be up tonight, guys! Working on them now. Stand by for a another update once that's done.
I think there's a Brad Paisley song about this sort of thing...
"Doctor? Remember where I told the Inn was?" Abel nodded at the old man's directions.

Then looking at Abel the old man said "If you hurry, you can borrow my horse. It will be faster than running. The doctor is not as strong and fast as your friend here."

Abel withheld the urge to scoff. Strong and fast maybe, but not very smart, he inwardly muttered to himself as he shot a glance at Steven before turning to start unhitching the cart. But then--

"You know... a horse sounds like a good idea."

Before Abel even got a chance to lay his hands on the ropes, Steven had miraculously overcome being out of breath within the few seconds they'd been conversing, forwent finishing his cup of water, and began unhitching the horse. Slightly frustrated, Abel shrugged it off. That's nice of him, I guess, he grudgingly thought as he stepped to one side of the horse. Again, before he was able to mount the beast, Steven's foot came careening towards his head as he quickly mounted it from the other side. The bottom of Steven's boot managed to graze Abel's nose as he tried to get out of the way, leaving a scuff of mud and lingering soreness.

"Your horse is very well trained," Steven said to the old man-- completely ignoring Abel as if to rub it in that, in spite of the fact that the old man had very clearly been speaking to Abel, he had insisted on going into town on the horse in his own Steven-y way. What a belligerent asshole! Abel had been wrong about accusing Steven of being stupid! He was indeed actually just a glory-hogging ass! He got Abel to leave so he could play hero with the girls! He'd probably seen the lion before hand and that's why he was trying to annoy Abel to the point of leaving! And now this!

I hate you. So. Much. Abel mentally seethed, rubbing his nose. Even so, if someone really was injured, it would do no good to make them suffer because of Steven's insolence.

"Further down the road," Abel answered before the old man curtly, "Across the bridge, into the town. Take a sharp left after a few houses and an alley. Town square will be right there." Boy, Steven sure loved making people repeat things they'd already said for no reason. Almost as much as he enjoyed repeating himself, he reckoned. Or maybe he just liked the sound of his own voice.

"You should really take Sรครคtur here into town with you, by the way. His mother is worried sick about him," he gestured to Sรครคtur, who was looking quite forlorn from his seat on the ground. Abel gave the kid a sympathetic look. Yeah, I'd feel that way too if I was forced to go anywhere with this idiot, he inwardly sighed. But it couldn't be helped. The boy needed to be taken home right away. Witnessing someone being mauled by a lion was no doubt a sore sight for a child to see. He needed to be with his mother.
@taistelusopuli That's okay. There's still quite a bit of inconsistency, but I'm used to it.
Ahhh I was nearly finished with mine :( I'd started writing it last night.... I wrote of Abel untying the horse from the cart and Steven getting on it as he did this in spite of the fact that the old man was speaking to Abel.... Abel figured Steven would ask someone in town where the doctor was and was going to lament over the fact that Saatur was left behind. Was Steven not purposely overlooking the fact that he didn't know where the Inn was?
@Dervish@Undine

I hear what your saying and I totally agree. I don't want to discredit either of you or come off as rude, but again I really must apologize for my need for a short hiatus. Like I said before, I know it's not very fair to those who have been active and communicative. Ever since our first drop out in the very early days of the RP, I've been trying to get over this salty taste in my mouth. I'm usually much more organized both in the IC and OOC. With everything that's been going on, I've been seriously slacking. I'm honestly ashamed at how passive I've been as the GM of this roleplay. This week long hiatus is all I humbly request so I can regather my thoughts and get the ball rolling more smoothly than it has been. I'll most definitely be getting more strict with my posting time limit as I have in past roleplays.

I can't figure out why I was trying to be so lax about that rule this time around (I always usually a little more lenient in December, since that tends to be finals season for many people who are in school, but it got out of hand this time). While it is evident that stuff like that does affect interest, I still take it more personally than I should when I'm constantly messaging someone to post, they let a month slide by and ignore my messages while they respond to other roleplays... and then they say "Well, it's been a month now and I've lost interest." Especially when I've made it quite clear that if someone is ever feeling stumped on what to post, I'll do whatever I can to help fix it story-wise. But that is neither here nor there....

All I can say for now is I'm sorry. It will only be a week. I wouldn't do it if I didn't think it absolutely necessary and I would really appreciate a little bit of patience while I recoup. As it stands now, me and Jenno have been talking about moving forward without replacements for the time being. We'll puppet the characters. So there's no need to worry about the hiatus going on longer than I said it would. If anything, it will be shorter. Just give me a little time. It will be worth the wait.

@Kaithas No worries. I know how the holidays usually are. Your guys' characters are in individual scenarios for the time being, so there hasn't been a huge rush for you guys at the mansion to post. Just try to get it up as soon as you can so Jenno can put up a response. He was wanting to wait until everyone at the mansion posted, but I'll likely have him start responding individually.

@lydyn @NightFlight Thank you, I appreciate it.

Alright, well McHaggis has decided to quit. I'm afraid I still haven't heard from Scrapula. At this point, I feel like it's appropriate to look back to a certain paragraph that was highlighted in the first post of the OOC when the RP began and I was searching for people....

"Please keep in mind that with roleplays such as these it is crucial that I accrue a group of players who understand the concept of the word 'commitment'. I am flexible and can be very accommodating, but communication is key. Life happens sometimes, but there are few excuses for not being able to shoot me a quick message before you afk. I plan to keep this ball rolling once it gets started and I won't allow anyone to ruin everyone's hard work with made up excuses. If you are not a player who prefers to see roleplays through until the end or communicate to the group if you need to take an extended leave of absence, you are welcome highly encouraged to get the hell out of this thread. If you think you may not be able to commit shortly after making the cut or submitting an application, please let me know. I promise I won't be angry."

Now... it could be because I'm pregnant and my patience is at an all time low whilst my temper is nearing an all-time high these days, but I thought I was pretty clear. I do REALLY appreciate those of you who have been posting and communicating with me when you can't. It really means a lot to me. I've been working really hard on what I have planned for the story and was very excited to get into it with all of your amazing characters, but with all that has been happening, I myself am starting to lose my enthusiasm.

In light of all this, I need to take a short break and think about what to do. If Scrapula never gets back to me, then that's another two people I have to replace and I really really really hate doing that. Frankly, it's a huge pain in the ass. With the lull in posts that's been going on with the holidays, I know it already feels like we've been on a hiatus, but I need to take some time to recoup my energy as well as find replacement(s). Once my ducks are all in a row, I would like to pick up where we left off again. You guys deserve my best effort and a full cast and none of this is fair to those of you who have been actively participating and churning out fantastic posts at a pleasantly consistent pace.

I'm very sorry to do this, but it's a necessity for me and the continuation of the story at this point. I will try to have everything ready by January 11th. You may expect a message from me then. Until then, please feel free to message me if you have any suggestions or ideas for the story. I really don't say that lightly-- this is OUR story and I want it to be awesome for EVERYBODY.

Again, thanks for your patience and hard work, guys. I promise I'll be back.
Alright, I'm not seeing that @Scrapula has made any posts for a very long time now, so I'll be continuing the scenario for that one tomorrow unless I hear back.

@McHaggis might not be getting my messages since I see they've made posts recently. I'll try PMing them....
@Scrapula@McHaggis I know Christmas is coming up soon, but any news on when you guys can get a post up?
