Bio
I am a Roleplayer with an interest in science fiction and fantasy, with a preference for Casual. I have been roleplaying for several years, and have even taken a stab at running a few RPs.
Outside the Guild, I am an Australian science student, gamer, musician and roleplayer (that's right, IRL too).
Divinus: The God Roleplay, Mk III We are new-born gods, summoned into an empty World by the powerful and enigmatic Architect. Our purpose is to create and fill the world of Galbar and the godly Spheres surrounding it, although with such a diverse pantheon there is all manner of disagreement over what to fill the world with. I co-GM this roleplay. I also play as Ashalla, the Goddess of the Ocean.
Divinus: The Deity Roleplay Mk2 We are new-born gods, summoned into an empty World to create a Universe where the last one was destroyed. Some wish to build it up, others wish to tear it down, and there is great conflict over what kind of Universe to create and what to put in it. I play as Teknall, the God of Crafting. He's a nice guy. I was also promoted to co-GM about half way through.
The Horde of Evil Under the command of a Dungeon Keeper, a horde of powerful beasts, monsters, warriors and demons sweep out to pillage the world beyond and battle against powerful foes. But a horde of the vilest beings in the land is far from cooperative... I played Torrens Igneus, a cunning fire demon and veteran servant of Dungeon Keepers throughout the ages.
Dungeon Keepers In this iteration, the Keepers arrive on a new world, in the land of Cyprus. This land is small and rich with resources, ripe for conquest. Yet it is ruled by a powerful and strangely unified nation of humans, with a King who has more power than he should... I GM'd this one. I controlled King Reginaldus, the sorcerer king with the power to read and manipulate people's minds while they slept. I've played in numerous past iterations before, although not all were on the Guild.
Sanctuary In a land where magical crystals power modern technologies, a terrible Cataclysm strikes the capital city. Spirits good and bad are unleashed upon the populace, and the military seal the entire city away behind an impenetrable wall. The spirits fuse with many people, granting them powers but also driving many to evil and violence. The players must try and survive in this post apocalyptic cityscape, and maybe even find a way to escape. I played as Zachary Mason, a kind-hearted, prodigious engineer, who is possessed by Kaa'is. He gains powers to control metal and read machines, but Kaa'is also drives him to become physiologically addicted to murder, an addiction he tries to suppress.
BattleCorp: Combatant Creator Tabletop section. The gist is that you get to invent your own special moves when you level up, tailored to your hero. I played David Pierce, a serious and dark gunslinger.
I do like knowing how many characters my post has. It gives me an accurate indicator of size.
Hi! Thanks for all the hard work you're putting into bringing this site back to what it was. ^.^
I was wondering if you plan to make it so you can click a PM and go to the last post like it used to be. Haha. It's a bit tiring having to scroll and scroll to get to the last post.
Not a huge deal, but I know a few of my friends really liked it that way more.
Or maybe it could be changed to show the newest post at the top instead of the bottom when it comes to PMs. Something. <3
Click the chain-like symbol next to the name of the latest poster in the PM, and it takes you directly to that post.
We've been having a few requests for this. Perhaps it needs to be made more obvious and intuitive for users. Some kind of sign or label should do it.
P.S. I personally like the dark-coloured background. Of course, I would agree that some of the bright white parts don't look the best, although it may not help that some of said elements are built in to the browser (eg. the scroll bars which pop up in oversized signatures or in the post editor).
These parts are NOT "part of the browser" - the browser only falls back to determining the styling of these elements when these are not set by the site (or when the browser has been explicitly told to override the styling). A few lines in the CSS file (or whatever is used for styling the site) could easily fix these sidebars for you.
Ah, I did not know this. My apologies for my ignorance. In that case, making scrollbars which match the colour scheme of the Guild would be a nice and hopefully simple stylistic feature, partnered with a similar colour scheme for the editor.
Technically, you're meant to use human servants/slaves. If absolutely necessary, you could get away with transmuting humans into some imp equivalent (which is what I have observed Cav has done for The Flesh, which is understandable because there is little or no believable way to get humans to work for that abomination without dying). If you have no means of obtaining human help now, what you could do is build your Heart yourself (at minimum you can find some shack/cave and enchant some rock and call that your Heart, although you might do something fancier with Runes), then create minions to go enslave human workers.
If you are near the Ashmarch or Kythnos, then enslaving some of their inhabitants or tricking them to do your dirty work would be easier than the Cypriots. Hey, you could even break out a bunch of prisoners/slaves from those people and put them to work as your own.
Of course, you could always go the more traditional route of simply enslaving villages and, until you get your own industry going, pillaging all supplies from villages, but that would have the drawback of drawing a lot of unwanted attention rather quickly. You may be able to get away with snatching a few individual farmers, provided you somehow shield their minds from Reginaldus' detection. Considering that Emily and co are aware there is someone who pries on them in their sleep, they may consider it a good idea to shield their Dungeon from such intrusions (using Runes, probably), which would incidentally serve the purpose of hiding workers too provided they don't escape.
These are just suggestions, of course. Ultimately it's up to you how you want to tackle it.
Reginaldus also woke with a start from the psychic shout. He was breathing heavily and for a moment fear flitted over his eyes. Never, for over two hundred years, had he been caught inside someone else's mind. And never had he ever encountered such a mind possessed, consensually inhabited, even, by such spirits. And why had he never noticed this girl before?
All this worried him deeply, so he got up to pace for a few moments to calm his nerves. His position as most powerful being in the land was challenged by this girl's presence, and as such he felt threatened. However, he soon calmed down. Even if this girl and her resident spirits rivaled him in direct magical power, he still held a great advantage, for he had the kingdom of Cyprus under his command while this girl was lost in an unfamiliar land. Plus, he knew more about her than she knew about him, although that was still insufficient to determine what she would do next. For all he knew, this girl might inhabit the land quietly without raising a challenge, although that was uncertain. Plus, this girl seems to need to sleep, which again puts him at the upper hand, for Reginaldus was confident in his dominance over all who slept under his watch.
Feeling in control once more, Reginaldus exited his bedroom to get breakfast before attending to the business of the day. He would have to keep an eye on that girl, but at the same time he would have to do so carefully to avoid provoking her and her spirits further.
I tried to think of ways to show rolls nicely inline with IC posts, but didn't come up with much.
The only way I can think of, besides an obtrusive block code, is to use the acronym/abbr html tag to display the dice roll on hover. So you could make a custom BBCode that takes the roll ID, displays the roll results in the hover, and then let someone write their action (as a result of the roll) inside the tag. Similar to the implementation of URL=, but hover instead of link.
I agree. If you are going for an integrated dice roller, you may as well have special BBCode which you just enter the roll ID and it shows and links to that roll. Such a link would also provide access to the relevant part of the rolls history.
Why not have, under the rolls tab or in your widget, a button which inserts the roll into the post? Like the quote button.
P.S. I personally like the dark-coloured background. Of course, I would agree that some of the bright white parts don't look the best, although it may not help that some of said elements are built in to the browser (eg. the scroll bars which pop up in oversized signatures or in the post editor).
P.P.S. There is no [noparse][/noparse] in the BBCode Cheat Sheat (that noparsing the noparse tags claimed there was a misalignment error, btw, although I don't blame it). Neither are there tables. Were there meant to be tabs too?
We've all been busy, except for me, but I'm living on a timetable on the other side of the world to all you guys so I suppose that's to be expected.
P.S. I've just noticed the new banners. They're cool.
@Mahz, When you implement the notifications for the Mention system, I have noticed one thing which could possibly cause unwanted behaviour. You will need to make sure that @Mentions in Convos don't send notifications. It would be inconvenient to receive a notification for a thread which you can not access (since aside from notifying people, @Mentions are also good for linking to people). Just something to watch out for when developing. I'm not sure if you had thought of that already, but I thought I'd bring it up.
If you do grant GMs the power over posts in their thread (something which could possibly be abused), then a system which puts the post in a large hider would be safest, for it allows the post to be hidden from view but still available to be read if need be. But a Report button to call a mod to a particular post would be a good idea too. How about give the mods the power to put posts in large hiders? Another tool in their toolbox.
Hiders are BBCode. Put the post in a hider, and I can just go in and edit my post to remove it.
Take away my edit powers, you say? That also removes the right for someone to have control over their own posts, it's effectively deleted them (as you can find most deleted posts anyways through cached versions at Google or via the Wayback machine).
By large hider, I meant something which functioned in a similar way as a hider, not a BBCode hider (although I wasn't clear). Some option which hides the whole post's contents until you click on it. Whether such an option would be useful or not, though, I'm not sure.
