When I was younger, I used to wanna be Woody/Buzz from Toy Story when I grew up.
For me role playing is simply an exercise in Writing. If you want to improve your Role Playing ability, work on your writing ability. The best way to work on your writing ability is to read books authored by people who know how to write and do it very well. If it is one of those "I couldn't put it down" sort of books.
