So what you're saying is...

Quite the contrary. Saying it just works implies that King Crimson's rules and abilities are easy to understand/very simple when, in actuality, King Crimson is quite the complicated stand. Especially when you consider that King Crimson is actually TWO stands- King Crimson (with its time erasing ability) and Epitaph (the tiny face on King Crimson's forehead, with the ability to forecast events.) Both of these belong to the split personalities of Passione's boss. King Crimson is Diavolo's stand, while Epitaph is Doppio's. While Doppio seems to be unaware of his other-side, and unaware that he has access to King Crimson, Diavolo is fully aware of Doppio and makes proper use of his Epitaph.

English motherfucker

The applications of King Crimson are seemingly endless- I mean, think of the possibilities in your head. However, it can't do much outside of comhat. It is solely a combat-based stand, and not even a good one, as all it can do is dodge and sneak around. Much like Yoshikage Kira's stand is solely for assassinations. This presents an interesting duality in JoJo, after Stardust Crusaders, where the protagonists have stands that have more utility in their everday, normal lives, while the antagonists have stands that are only useful for their villainous lives. Compare Giorno's Gold Experience with Diavolo's King Crimson- Gold Experience (not even Requiem) is perfect for someone like Giorno, who could, rather than keeping up with the drug trade, start selling parts from rare animals he's made to the black market. Or helping the meat trade by creating large amounts of livestock for them to slaughter. Meanwhile, King Crimson can only murder people with its ability. Perfect for a mob boss who reigns by fear alone.

How the fuck does this work

King Crimson's ability doesn't actually erase time, per say. Rather, it stops time, entering what many time-using stands call their world. Once inside, King Crimson's ability erases the memories of those few seconds it was inside its world, which causes confusing jumps to everyone, even those outside its pathetically minuscule range.

Surprises and sneak attacks work surprisingly well on this stand, as it has very little "permanence", meaning any substantial attack on it could be a nigh lethal blow to its user. However, it would be in your favor to plan these surprise attacks around King Crimson's ability and not your own- though consideration on your own abilities and limits should be had. For instance, if King Crimson has already used its ability, it is best not to try anything too simple, for one reason: Forecast. King Crimson can see actions that are about to happen while it is in its world, however it can only see a short time into the future. Only enough to successfully dodge attacks you've already attempted, and prepare itself for whatever you have left to attack with. Complicated attacks or moves (See: the first fight between Buccellati and The Boss) that go well beyond King Crimson's Forecasting range are enough to confuse the stand and its user just long enough to escape or go through with your attack.

Then explain King Crimson.

King Crimson erases time, like a video editor, kinda. Once it does, it puts the user into a time erased 'world' where the user can escape the action they erased time to escape.
