The path the ravine was dark, gloomy, and positively dreadful; Which is to say it was exactly like the rest of the World of Wasted Dreams. Tatsumi began the trip feeling confident. He was ready for adventure, ready to prove himself to the group. But soon that changed, a sense of dread slowly consuming him as they drew closer to Paraanon Ravine. He wasn't sure if it was just an effect of this world or if he was just getting jumpy... or maybe there really was some sort of danger. He began throwing glances over his shoulder, convinced that something very scary was following them. Something overwhelmingly powerful. His hand drifted to the hilt of his sword, ready to draw at any moment. Am I just being paranoid? No one else seems scared...

At least none of the humans in their party were. He cast a glance to Mu and his monkey companion Jin. The monkey was nervous too, to the point of shaking. Animals do have a certain sense for these things. Maybe there is something following us. He heard Macey dismiss the monkey-like man as a stranger. Tatsumi cast her a friendly smile, "No need to be so cold, Macey. I have a feeling we're going to be stuck together for a while, so I think we should all be friends!" He announced enthusiastically. He really was seeking the friendship of the group, even the more aggressive members like Akemi and Sinthe, that was simply Tatsumi's nature.

And then footsteps could be heard advancing towards them from the mist. Tatsumi tensed, preparing to draw his weapon. He had a feeling that vigilance was an incredibly valuable trait out here. However the mist parted to reveal an old man that appeared to be in a very sorry state. His eyes were clearly gone, and although his cries were barely audible it was obvious he needed help. Mu and Macey instantly announced their suspicion of the man, but Tatsumi was foolishly not so cautious. "C'mon, he's just and old man, and he clearly need some help. Are you alright sir?" He said, approaching the man.
I'd say I have the same opinion as Windel.
Tatsumi smiled at the talk of a job. He was eager for adventure, and was ready to prove himself to the others after the rather embarrassing incident at the well. He didn't really catch the details of their job, besides the fact that it was at a place called 'Paraanon Ravine'... not that that meant much to him, since he wasn't exactly familiar with the geography of this place. Tatsumi smiled at Jenniver when he saw her. She was the first of the group whom he had met, so it was nice to see that she was still safe. His smile faded as Sinthe took her comment a little too harsh. He seems a little... touchy. Tatsumi noted to himself.

Next to speak was Akemi, who appeared to have resuscitated from her 'excursion' with Sinthe, with a new 'companion' already running from her clutches. I'm going to avoid her... she's a little scary. In his opinion the fox girl appeared to be a nympho. He sighed. No matter how he felt her help would be needed, so he would have to try to get along with her.

And then Macey and Monkey Boy/Mu introduced themselves. And Jin, an actual a monkey. A monkey is a very interesting choice of travelling companion, but they seem alright. Tatsumi blushed slightly as Macey referred to him and Mari as 'father and daughter', but he smiled at the trio. "A pleasure to meet all of you... you're right, Macey, this place is bleak, so it is up to us to make the best of it. And a job sounds like a good start... better than hanging around this gloomy town forever." Tatsumi furrowed his brow as Mari explained the mayor's actions. That doesn't make much sense to me, but it's probably best to leave it be for now. I don't really know the ways of this place, and a lot is still a mystery...

Mari seemed to evade his question about the danger she was in. It was clear enough that the question made her uncomfortable so he let it be, but that didn't mean he wasn't concerned. She seemed scared of whatever this 'danger' was. She began to break off from the group. "I'll see you later then. You take care of yourself too, and check in with me sometime after we get back..." His sentence drifted off. He didn't really know the girl but he was still concerned for her. She was in some sort of trouble, that was clear, and it felt wrong for him to leave her. He shook his head, turning back to the assembled group of Hunters. "Well, we should be off then. We've got a job to do." He turned towards the town gates, heading off for Paraanon Ravine without checking to see if the others were following him.

This might not have been so bad if he knew where Paraanon Ravine. Hopefully they would follow.
Tatsumi was slightly taken aback when the girl didn't let go of his hand, but shrugged it off. She was just a kid, and all by herself, it wasn't surprising if she was a little clingy. Plus he could already tell that she would be a big help. She knew a lot more about this place than he did, if anything it was a stroke of luck that he met her.

He pondered her words. The villagers almost sounded like actors putting on a play. He had a million questions, but decided to ask the ones that came to his head first, "Why? What's the mayor's purpose? He must have some kind of... reason to be giving them roles? And... are us Hunters a part of his game? Are we 'Actors' too? What about you? And what do you mean you're still in danger? What's dangerous here besides the monsters?" He was aware that he might be asking a few too many questions, so he cut off his line of inquiry as they approached Macey and Mu.

He realized he probably looked a little odd to the pair holding the little girl's hand, but he got over it. Tatsumi was not the type to let himself be intimidated by other's opinions. Mari asked if they knew him, "No, I'm afraid I haven't met them yet," He looked towards the black-haired girl, "But I do remember you from the square... you came with the strange masked man. I... I lost my cool there... Anyways, I'm Tatsumi, pleased to meet you two..." He suddenly realized he should probably also introduce Mari, "And this is Maribel... she's from here, unlike us." He said, nodding towards the young white-haired girl.
Tatsumi reluctantly accepted the hand of the young girl he now knew as Maribel and rose from the ground. The monster's ignore her? She's different, not like the villagers, that much is obvious. Tatsumi returned the young girl's smile. It was clear that the girl meant well, unlike the seemingly soulless villagers. "I'm Tatsumi... pleased to meet you, Maribel. So, you come to visit the villagers? Don't they seem... I dunno, a little strange to you? It's almost like they're... empty, not really there. Maybe I'm just imagining it..." He shook his head, moving to exit the alley.

He thought about what she said. No parents, huh? Even if the monster's don't bother her it must be rough, and she must be lonely if she comes here for company... He looked out towards the area outside the walls of the village, pointing towards the horizon and turning his head back towards Maribel, "So, you don't live in the village? Does that mean you live out there, all be yourself?" Inside, he felt an inexplicable empathy with the girl, like he knew what it was like to be by yourself.
@Diggerton

So I just realized that Tatsumi's CS has his name as "Takumi"...

Huh

Idk how I managed to completely change his name between my CS and the IC, but I did
Tatsumi was pulled out of his self pity by a sudden voice. He quickly wiped away the tears on his face, turning away, trying to hide the fact that he was crying. But the girl already knew. I must look pitiful... some monster hunter I am... He looked to the girl. She seemed oddly familiar. I definitely know her from somewhere, but where? He realized he was gawking at her, and that he should say something quickly, before he looked like an idiot. "I... You're right, I must look pretty pathetic to the monsters, don't I? Some Hunter I am..." He sighed. "Anyways, I'm... I'm fine."

That's right, if I'm going to survive here, I can't break down because of something like that. I need to be tough... I'm going to have to see a lot of people die here, I think... He looked over the girl, trying to place where he knew her. She was fairly young, no older than 16 by the looks of her, with white hair. He shook his head. Maybe he really didn't know her. "Say, where are your parents? Is it safe for a young girl to be wandering out here all be herself?" He remembered the 'God's Hand' again. "This village doesn't seem all that safe."
Windel, is this 'young girl' young as in like 10 years old, or a teenager, or what?
Isn't alchemy a type of magic? I'm just wondering.

It was sort of the ancient precursor to Chemistry, and mainly centered on people trying to turn base metals into gold.
@Diggerton And thus, one more soul took his first step on the dark and cold path of failed heroism.

I'm sure Tatsumi's spirit will be thoroughly broken. Or he'll die.
