Jack Hathoway

Name: Jack Hathoway

Nickname: The Greenhorn

Age: 20

Appearance: A young Caucasian man, standing at 6'1" and weighting 160 lbs, Jack is quite plain in his appearance. His skin is slightly tanned due to constantly being out in the sun, which compliments the stubble on his face and his dark blue eyes. His hair is short, messy, and brown, the 'typical' look of a young Caucasian man.

Biography: The son of a farming family, Jack never enjoyed the simple lifestyle of living out in the homestead, tending the crops and raising cattle. The memories are fuzzy, but at some point in time during is preteen years, he decided to head out for adventure. The journey wasn't easy, but he was lucky to finally stumble by a nearby city. It was here that Jack found other kids just like him. With a large group together with a common goal, they became street urchins, committing petty crimes, and becoming a down-right nuisance. For years Jack lived out in the streets, stealing, lying, and sneaking his way out of situations. Life was good. Everything changed for Jack when a fellow gang-member(and founder, Howard O'Connor)killed a man when he started to attack the boys for stealing a precious item of his. The Law was close on their tail, with Jack and his peer running for their lives. Unfortunately, both the boys were caught, and sent to jail. Although it was clear that Jack never committed the crime, nor' was he involved in it in any way, he was still charged with guilt by association. The local Sheriff, having known Jack in an almost personal level(due to taking him down to the station many times), did the least he could do; a public whipping.

Half a month after said events, Jack was soon released, and had a sudden change of heart. Quickly denouncing his old ways, much to the anger of his gang-mates, Jack tried many ways to search for a regular job. Of course, he found one at a local saloon, cleaning dishes. It was not until he reached the matured age of nineteen did his lust for adventure return. This time, Jack went on to ask the Sheriff for a favor; to help him become a Deputy. To this day, Jack has shown to be a loyal and gentlemanly character...though the memories of his past still haunt him, for he has never heard of Howard O'Connor and his old gang ever since. Jack is currently looking for a way to go out into the wild and seek a teacher, not only to see the world for himself, but to become independent from the law enforcement; as a Gunslinger.

Equipment: A golden pocket-watch, a Winchester Model 1873 slung over his back with a bandoleer(Ammo - X), and a law-enforcement issued Colt Action Single Army revolver(Ammo - X).

Skills and Flaws:

God's Luck - "The Lord himself has touched this boy's soul.": A stroke of luck is all it takes to change a life-or-death situation in your favor. Jack is known to get away with things no regular man should, earning him a reputation in his city as being almost untouchable. Even if that's not the case, you gotta admit....he's a lucky son-of-a-gun.

Expert Brawler - "That boy may not look like the toughest nail in the box, but he can pack one hell of a punch!": In his early days as a street urchin, Jack was taught how to brawl in case things went south for him. Learning wasn't easy, but it paid out in the end. When it comes to a fist fight, Jack knows just how to knock a bigger man flat on his ass better than anyone else.

Scarred on the back - "He's a fine young gentleman, but not every good person is born a saint": Jack's only real tough times were the ones as a street urchin. Before he originally became a Deputy, he was infamous for stealing, pickpocketing, and other shenanigans. It wasn't until he was caught in the vicinity of a fellow street urchin's action of murder that he decided to change his ways. Public lashings usually don't leave your memory.

Shy Fella' - "What do you mean you have to use the bathroom? This will be the eight time you've gone, what is wrong with you!?": Unfortunately for Jack, making friends is not his specialty. Although it is very clear and apparent that he has a good heart with pure intentions, his approach is not always the best. Of course, it can be something fixed, but just how long will that take?

Viper

Name: Jasper Maxwell Ford
Age: 21
Alias: Viper
Gender: Male
Previous City of Operation: Los Angeles, California

Appearance: Stands at 6'0 with a semi muscular build, mostly in his upper body. His hair is black and spiked up around the back of his head with a single green streak going down the middle. His eyes are that of a serpent's, light green with a slit iris. He usually wears a pair of aluminium frame sunglasses at all times. He usually wears a white tee shirt with a black collar and lining around the hem and sleeves, a black metal watch on his right wrist and a white and black checkered pattern band on his left wrist. Below he wears dark blue jeans with a brown belt complete with silver buckle and a chain connected to his belt which is usually attached to his wallet. Below he wears red and white sneakers with a thunderbolt symbol on the outsides. In colder weather he dons a dark green jacket with white sleeves and a serpent eye image on the back.

Powers: Jasper's powers are based on being able to shift parts of his body into more reptillian versions of them which can vary but usually amount to a single whole being.
- Bone forearm blades: Viper's standard method of attack, similar to how fangs retract into a serpent's mouth, a pair of forearm length sharp bone blades can retract and extend from Viper's forearms. They are sharp enough to damage metal and can cause serious injury is used against flesh.
- Venom sacs: A space beside Viper's lungs is replaced by a pair of venom sacs, allowing him to exhale a cloud of poison at his opponents. This poison can vary from a paralytic poison to stun those who inhale it or a more dangerous substance that can kill a victim within a day if an antidote is not administered.
- Retractable fangs: Inside Viper's mouth a pair of fangs lie in wait that can be used to bite enemies and inject them with poison. Like his venom sacs, this can range from a paralytic to a more fatal concoction.
- Hardened scales: When fully transformed, Viper's body becomes encased in rock hard scales that act as a perfect set of armour. The scales are tough enough to withstand gunfire and can also allow him to survive extreme heat.
- Serpent lower half: When fully transformed, Viper's lower half becomes akin to that of a naga from mythology. When shifted this way, Viper can use the serpentine tail to both move faster and fling himself akin to how a serpent flies, reaching up to 23 kph. This lower tail can also be used to ensnare victims and crush them with increased force.
- Forked tongue: Like most snakes, Viper can use his forked tongue to smell and detect vibrations, allowing him to track criminals and suspicious smells.
- Infrared vision: Like most snakes, Viper's eyes are naturally equipped with an infrared vision he can use at night. This is the one power he can use without having to transform his body, due to his eyes being stuck as serpent's.

Abilities/Skills:
- Physically fit: Whilst not particularly athletic, Jasper is in good shape and is a decent enough runner so he won't tire particularly easy and he can hold his own in a fight without using his powers.
- Decent memory: Having once worked as a coffee barista, Jasper knows how to memorize multiple orders at once and so can remember a lot of information at once so long as he lists it in his head.
- Sociable and streetwise: Thanks to his job, Jasper knows how to be sociable and is decent at getting information from people on the streets.

Equipment:
- Serpent's Eye Medallion: When Jasper is in human form, this medallion is sunken into his skin and invisible. When he is transformed, the medallion shows itself, fused into his neck and chest. It is theorised that if it were ever removed, Jasper would die and he has not managed to remove it himself yet.
- Antidote pouch: Usually kept at his belt, Jasper keeps a small collection of antidotes for the various poisons Viper can hit victims with. This is in case he needs to save someone he bit or if his poison hit a civillian.

Personality: Jasper is generally very easy going and laid back. He's a very sociable guy and is prone to chit chat about unimportant topics. He also has a sense of humour, both about himself and those around him. He can take a joke about himself quite often. He has something of an ego, mostly regarding his appearance and particularly his hair. Due to his easygoing nature, Jasper is also somewhat lazy and often prefers to pass over tasks to others. Deep down, Jasper has a deep seated fear of his split between his human side and the new reptilian form that has been created thanks to the medallion. He fears that he will never truly be a whole being, either human or reptile and deeply fears being rejected by other human beings for his differences. Though he never lets this show and keeps up his easygoing facade.

History: Jasper was raised in California to a pair of rich parents, his father a film director and his mother a casting agent for an up and coming young actor. Money was never an issue during his childhood and thus he was able to live a life of luxury, spoiled rotten with possessions and friends as they all flocked to his wealth and overly sized house. His childhood, whilst it lacked a lot of parental guidance, was a happy one as he coasted his way through life on a wave of wealth and fame.

Then came the day that his life started to cave away from beneath him. His father became a laughing stock after one of his films failed to make back even a tenth of what had been spent on it and his mother was fired from her job thanks to casting her up and coming actor in said film and thus ruining his career. The house and most of Jasper's possessions had to be sold gradually as time went on and his friends slowly dribbled away when they realized that Jasper was actually pretty obnoxious once you got past his wealth.

Eventually came the day when his parents saw how high Jasper's spending had been and decided to kick him out of the house after finishing high school. Out of spite, Jasper stole an artefact his father had bought at an auction many years ago and was taken in his parents now fired kindly maid, Arianna. Jasper was left to live in Arianna's apartment with her and started job hunting, applying what little skills he had to the world of work. It eventually landed him the pathetic job of a coffee barista and he struggled to pay his half of the rent from week to week. It didn't help all his old friends openly came in to mock how far he'd fallen in life, whilst they had moved on to higher education and jobs provided to them via nepotism.

At the age of 20, Jasper was looking to sell some old junk of his to try and come up with his half of the rent that month when he came across the item he'd stolen from his father. The serpent eye medallion. Jasper had no idea the medallion had been found at an ancient Aztec temple over 50 years ago and that it had once belonged to a now long dead race of reptilian beings who had breeded underground, away from surface eyes. Casually trying it on, Jasper was suddenly imbued with its great power, his DNA warped and melded with that of the ancient serpentine race, giving him the ability to shift back and forth between each side, but always bearing some resemblance. In human form, Jasper's eyes are always reptilian. And in his fully transformed state, only Jasper's face remains human.

Unable to remove the medallion, Jasper viewed his new state as a curse and was forced to don his shades to hide his eyes. However, one night when he was working the late shift, a robber arrived with gun in hand. Some instinct within him called out and he leapt in, biting the man's neck and paralyzing him with venom. Astounded, Jasper continued to test his new found abilities with the help of Arianna. Before long, he finally plucked up the courage to announce himself publicly as Viper, a super hero to uphold justice.

Now, after only a year of his superhero career, he was called upon to be a part of the Argonauts. Leaving Arianna behind, he made his way to locate them and etch his name into history... and possibly find a way to end the medallion's curse upon him.

Other:
- He has a natural weakness against cold temperatures and climates, and thus, tends to avoid cold areas.
- He enjoys some summer sports but, surprisingly enough, loathes surfing.
- His lucky number is 19.
- Viper's arch nemesis was known as "Snake Charmer." He has not been seen since a car pile up three months ago.

Sorry for just kinda shooting this out there, but no-one was replying to me whether this was still open or not, so eh whatever.

The planet of Ravage, humanity's lone rock of survival. After having crashed upon the planet and being left to develop for 150 years, civilization has formed into something of a western world, small towns and cities of stone and wood. Crime is common, bandit gangs and crime lords rule the wastes and law enforcement is rare, only seen in town organised militia and sheriffs. These days, anyone who can use a piece or has any experience in shooting is highly sought after. Carving ones own fate in Ravage is the only way to survive.

Setup

The year was 2157. The lush blue and green planet of Earth was slowly turning grey. Resources were running out, the atmosphere was choking its inhabitants and land was being swallowed up by an ever encroaching ocean. With lives beginning to fall apart, the last hope of humanity was poured into a single expensive project. Space travel had been conquered a long time ago and alternatives for habitation had been looked into. But the other planets in their system had been pillaged too and unfit for habitation. So humanity was herded aboard the 12 ships that made up the “ARK fleet” and set off for the stars.

After 200 years of cryo stasis, automated systems and travel, the ships encountered something they hadn’t planned for; A horrible incident on their travels brought the entire ARK fleet crashing down upon the closest planet to them, a dry and desolate land of sand and rock. Most of the crew manning the ships died on impact and the cryostasis banks containing their human cargo spilt out. With no chance of escaping, humanity was forced to settle down and use whatever they could. Using the technology left behind in the ships, humanity turned the 12 ARK ships into the 12 major cities of the world. They used whatever terraforming technology that was left to try and change the desert and canyon planet into something more manageable and using the ship’s engines and power cores to provide power. Their development was rough and spanned many a man’s life time.

Now, in the year 2502, the planet now called Ravage has become humanity’s lone bastion. The 12 major cities have become the centre for politics and economics across the planet. Technology is isolated in pockets from these cities, some given to flourishing new towns. Buildings have been constructed from the relatively sturdy and easily formable Slakestone. Most of the local wildlife has been identified, some used and some feared. Law is nearly non-existent with no overarching police force across towns, instead using Sheriffs to keep the peace and organized militia. Crime is everywhere with no clear law enforcement and so the need for bounty hunters and assassins or anyone who can handle a piece is at an all-time high. These days, the current generation don’t even remember how they came to live on their new, dusty home world…

Mechanics

Currency: When the ARK ships first crashed, humanity had brought some forms of currency with them for historical value. When society first began to reform, ways to print money were discussed and eventually put into practice, using the American Dollar as the blueprint. However, their records were damaged from the crash and thus the name of this currency was forgotten. Thus, the currency was referred to as “Heads” due to how all forms of the coin feature a face. Cents are referred to as skulls. Players will be expected to keep track of their money but GM will be keeping track too. Every player gets to start off with 10 heads and 50 skulls.

Bounty: Ravage has a long memory. Whilst you're free to act as you see fit, if you perform enough criminal acts, tick off the wrong people or just get involved in things you shouldn't be involved in, a bounty will be placed on your head. The bigger the bounty, the more hunters will start coming after you, the more NPC interactions and dialogue will change and some towns and cities won't even let you in if your bounty is too much. Be careful of your actions when you travel the wastes.

Exploration: Ravage is a pretty big place. Whilst there will of course be a main overarching plot for you to follow, feel free to wander off the beaten trail and go exploring. Be careful though, the wild is called that for a reason.

Ammo count: If you're wielding a gun, this is something you'll want to keep track of in battles and when using your gun. Depending on the weapon type this will vary between players, but you'll be allowed some stock of ammo before we begin. More will need to be purchased during the RP, however. I'll once again expect players to keep up with their own ammo count, but again i'll be keeping track too to help out.

Rules

1. All of RPG's usual rules.
2. No godmodding whatsoever.
3. GM's word is law but if you have questions for character building or certain situations, go ahead and PM me.
4. Post length and quality. I generally expect high quality but don't feel too bad if every post isn't two paragraphs. For battles and simple actions, I don't mind short paragraphs. No one sentence posts though, ideally.
5. You're starting out as semi experienced and you'll grow overtime, so put some work into the arc of your character's skills and experience.
6. I generally expect a fair amount of attention and not getting left behind. Make sure to PM me if you're going to be away for a while, I will listen.
7. If you get hit, take the hit. No miraculous dodges if a post explicitly states you take damage. I guess this plays into rules 2 and 3 but... eh, I like to be careful.

Sci-fi Western style RP

Think Trigun and a hand of Fallout with a mix in of bits of Metal Gear Solid in terms of characters. There will be no Raidens, promise.

The general premise is that humanity fled an Earth depleted of its resources and has been forced to settle upon a desert planet, now called Ravage by the locals. It has been 150 years since this occurrence and humanity is scraping a living in small towns and thriving cities, creating a semi western styled environment. There is no governing police force across Ravage, and so, crime is common and the need for someone who can wield a weapon has never been higher.

While there will be an overarching plot, it's pretty open ended and you can basically just go exploring ala Fallout to find new towns and mysterious places.

There will also be a crime mechanic where continuously doing criminal acts will affect character interactions and whether you get attacked by bounty hunters.

That's pretty much the idea!

Yo, can I still get in on this? Just spotted it and my brain is BUZZING on superheroes atm.

Dren had made it outside, free from the fray and any further combat. He didn't know what was going on and he didn't want to be a part of it. All he wanted now was to abscond from this ship and make tracks, hoping none of those soldiers recognized him or his entire reputation could be ruined.

But on arriving to the side of the ship, he realized they'd taken off again... amidst all the chaos and dancing he must not have noticed. Too far to use his short range teleport spells either... there was no way down from here without landing the ship. And he couldn't do that on his own...

Well, considering there was fighting going on, the best course of action for now seemed to be to hide. So that's what he did, making his way along the side of the ship quietly and seeking a little solitude until this all blew over.
