Bio

New roleplay: https://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/189457-the-eye-of-the-needle-where-fantasy-and-sci-fi-collide/ooc

Hey, I'm Catharyn! I joined the Roleplayer Guild on 2nd Feb 2011, then rejoined on the 17th Jan 2014 after Guildfall.

I was active every day until late 2015, accruing (i think) around 7k posts across dozens of roleplays. Then, I started working and had to gradually slow down my RP schedule. In 2017, I officially went on hiatus when other commitments got fully in the way of roleplaying.

This continued until the COVID-19 pandemic hit, when I suddenly realised I had a lot more free time in lockdown! So in mid-2020, I returned to the Guild with a vengeance. I also managed to get The Cradle 1x1 off the ground - a story i've had percolating for almost a decade.

My posting schedule has slowed down a bit now that the world has opened up again. I still love science fiction, fantasy and espionage themes, and generally aim for around 300 words per post.

Haven't read the specifics just yet... but I am interested in making a politician of sorts.

Great We're going to need politicians.

Excellent, oh, and one more question Cathy. Conceivably, would the characters from the last roleplay exist, though before everything they went through the last time? I was just thinking that it might be interesting to encounter the previous characters at some point along this story. And Cathy, don't forget, we do have a wiki we can refer everyone to.

I wouldn't be too worried if you wanted to use Darik. This is more of a reboot than a sequel and all the great characters are welcome to return.

I'm not sure that's finished either
Sauron, okay i've got you. Yeah but remember it only has around 20,000 pledged full members. Having a massive tower like that is redundant and doesn't fit with the image. Corporation headquarters with millions of workers would have massive towers that huddle around the Skytower, not a supposed charity. . The ancient organization would more likely own a whole host of small businesses and properties, gradually gaining control etc. What do you think?

@Catharyn Speaking of factions, were you alright with the Corporation (BAAC) included in my CS? And if so, should I create a Faction Sheet for them?

Yes it was great . Sure, if you want! Every bit of information is welcome. . I like reading corporation information. By the way, your character picture is broken :(

Right now, the one I'm leaning towards the most would be an assassin of sorts, "working" for the BESC. Someone who would kind of play the role of a "bad guy", working for the government. For now at least, where or what he ends up doing later as the story progresses is still in the air. He might continue working against "most" players and their agendas or he might be swayed to some other side. Who knows~ : )What do you think about that?

Sounds good . Assassin is such a generic job though, remember there are a whole host of roles available in a corrupt fascist government!

It went from the Central Government of Babylon creating strife and tyranny until the military did the Politics Dance and earned the votes for their candidates. After that happened, BESC tasted power and became disillusioned, becoming the ones to once again create strife and tyranny?

As for the BESC, I like the idea of a UNSC type dictatorship. A good intentioned move to create a better government that went bad.

Sorted then. :)

I'm going to wait until the major factions are put out before going anywhere further with my character idea.

I'll try and work faster.

Perhaps they've become a UNSC like dictatorship after years of them being an untrustworthy arm of the government. Military coup or a slow takeover through multiple elections being in their favor. SPACE-POLITICS!

Yeah I thought a slow takeover would be interesting. Shading it from the public eye whilst quietly gaining the support of politicians and parties etc. I like space politics.

Ooh wow, nice faction Sauron! I think we can accept that, there are a few things we need to revise though. Firstly with your character, he's overpowered. He can't be three meters tall to start off with, that's almost 10 feet tall! He's also a tiny bit too old. Humanity has greatly increased their lifespan but 353 isn't consistent with the improvements. Take one hundred years off that age and it's just about okay.

Secondly, there are some very tall towers in Babylon. On the outskirts the buildings are relatively low down by comparison and a massive tower out there would cause massive suspicion. Could we not make it a little more inconspicuous? Maybe knock off a couple of floors and such? Underground facilities are okay up to a point but there may or may not be something else under the ground which could interfere with it.

Lastly, could you explain in a bit more detail, Arthur's motive for changing the Order's ideology to worship death? Either on the thread or in PMs if its important that it remains a secret. Just want to know so i can work some bits and pieces around it. It's perfectly alright, i was hoping for some goals more economically or politically minded because i was thinking about having them be a contender for a hostile takeover.
Good luck :)

Include the name, history, structure and hierarchy etc, and unique weaponry and tech and you'll be fine. I'll get back to work on the OP. After describing Edessa, Actim and Réunion i'll get onto factions, tech and weapons. ^^ Sorry i'm so slow.
There could also be the possibility of when multiple Knights are present at a battle, they can link their shielding together to form a bigger force field and start protecting other soldiers or establishing a perimeter. Whole is greater than the sum of its parts etc. Just an idea. It'd be mighty good if you want to write up the official Faction sheet for the Knights Templar/ Red Cross if you have all the ideas straight with the group. :)
Ooh. That's an option. It would make it more skill based rather than just 'our organization is incredibly wealthy and i've just bought a shield that protects me.' Of course the battery will run out as the kinetic shield works overtime to stop high velocity rounds etc. Interesting...

Mayhaps the field is projected from their forearm so it can be brought up quickly and taken away quickly

Interesting, explain a bit more?
Xanndros, what kind of character ideas are you toying with?

It's starting from roughly the same time as the first iteration Siphy, sorry it's not made that clear. The OP is a dream had by one of my characters at the start of the roleplay. Good to pique peoples interest. May or may not happen.

Sauron do you imagine they might use an expensive sort of kinetic barrier, like the kind used to shield spacecraft, as their defense? So projectiles would be absorbed by the field which is powered by a battery pack somewhere on their person. Makes more sense than a conventional shield which could only be so strong and unwieldy in a modern combat situation. It also means they have a hand free to use their gun. . What do you guys think? I don't know about you but i'd be more afraid of a big armored man walking through a battle and not going down, even with focused fire, than someone behind a shield.

NoSoul! Good to see you again :) I'm glad veterans have arrived because this is a big project and i could do with your insight. BESC (Babylon Executive Security Command) has replaced CSEC as the governing military body. What powers do you think they should have as opposed to centralized government? Are we having them as a kind of UNSC type dictatorship or an untrustworthy arm of the government or what? We didn't get their motives etc clear last time and it really bugged me.
I suppose you're right. Swords are about as popular as they are today; used more for ceremony and as a wall mount for rich collectors. I'm not big on swords being used as a primary weapon in a world where everyone has a gun which can rip you limb from limb and there are Orbital defences which can put a round through an invading capital ship, just logic really. I can see their merit in close quarters though, and with an ancient organization such as the Knights Templar it is only right they have their own piece of history.
