As children of a witch’s commune in Southern California, Ali and Cat are well aware of the magical underground and all the intricacies of the limbo between worlds. They have a solid basic mystical education, particularly in the fields of astrology, divination, lithomancy, and herbalism, which are often derided as mundie magic.
From their divine heritage the two were born with the minor abilities to bend light and sound.
Part of what secured their acceptance into The Villa was their own custom spell, a bonding ritual that has unique effects based on the individuals involved. Because of their spell they are now able to share thoughts, emotions, and even magic just by touching one another, and each has a bond with their own familiar allowing them to communicate across species.
Nature:
Most would describe them as odd, and bizarrely attached to one another, even for twins, but their family calls them only special. They are free spirits and optimists, seeing the world through rose colored lenses and the kind of enviable cheer only the truly good and happy are capable of. Attached at the hip, sometimes literally as they go everywhere arm in arm, and usually bare footed while they’re at it, Ali and Cat are best friends and confidants in every way that matters, and even the ways that dont.
Despite their similar dreamy expressions, there are some differences. Ali is the more excitable and childish one, eager and creative, while Cat is more restrained and relaxed, mature and analytical.
Nurture:
Located in Grechuerta, California, their community is a magically isolated neighborhood that is a part of the Los Angeles Fontes, one of the more influential American members of the Incantente. Their mother is Governess Roxane Helene of the LA Fonte, and their assumed father is Anton Cabello, a nurse at the local hospital who doubles as a healer for the local underground.
There had always been something odd about the twins’ conception, but it wasn’t anything anyone spoke about in public or within earshot of the children. Whatever was off never turned out badly as some suspected it might, instead as the twins grew they brought much needed joy to Grechuerta, being both happy and sweet children as well as talented little witches. There wasn’t a single neighbor they met that didn’t love them, and their gifts were cultivated early, despite their busy schedules in mundane school with them being part of every co-ed club willing to accept them.
Anton Cabello became their mother’s lover a few years after they were born, and for all intents and purposes became their step-father. With his support and help raising the children Roxane was able to pursue her dream of becoming Governess of the LA Fonte, which held over fifty covens under its name throughout Southern California. She eventually obtained the position and became a proxy in the Incantente, joining in the campaign to obtain enough influence to pressure Mosaic into opening up to the rest of the underground.
Receiving the application, Ali and Cat put together a dual resumé-esque profile for the both of them, detailing their accomplishments and skills as if they were one person- and given their identical results on any and all magical readings and tests, the Dean didn’t bother trying to treat them as separate persons anyway.

Quintetherium:
Not a realm exactly, but rather a term meaning all of the quintessential godly realms. Many of them were forged by their residents, and are only as big as they need to be, and others are tiny biospheres attached to said realms, but on the whole they are minor things, not very large or populous and certainly not places a traveler wishes to find themselves. Thankfully these realms are cleverly designed and closely guarded, meaning breaching them by accident is nigh impossible, and only by invitation may a mortal enter. A rare occurrence to say the least.
GODS, DEITIES, DIVINES:
Slowly and steadily over the past century the gods have begun to once again take an interest in Earth. The ages where humans were novel, where their civilizations were idyllic, and the gods were worshiped the world over in a thousand different tongues, have all come and past, and they have cared little for the drab backwater the planet became, but since the great spikes in population and technology, the deaths of millions in world-spanning wars, and the returned relevancy of magic in the world, some among the gods are once again tricking, enchanting, and dallying upon the mortal plane, though still much less so than in centuries past, and sightings remain extremely rare and difficult to confirm.
ETHEREALS, SERAPHS:
Often related to or even classed as gods, ethereal beings are powerful conduits of exotic energies, often described as holy or virtuous in nature. Some believe angels to be a kind of ethereal, but on the whole not much is known about these distant beings. Rarely, if ever, have they ventured to Earth, or any other realm, and when they did they acted through blessings and encouragements upon others, never directly of their own actions.
DEMONS, DEVILS:
A true demon is a manifestation of abyssal energies. Where ethereals are associated with the free void and the unbound winds, demons are painted as anchored beings of dark fire, tethered to shadowy realms they are unable to escape - at least not on their own. They take many forms and have many powers, no two demons being the same, but all share a wicked streak as contentious and sinful hedonists. Being bound as they are, and always willing to play with mortals, they are much more well known than ethereals and thus there is a much greater understanding of them.
Terrarium:
A fancy Muze term for Earth. As far as realms go this world is not especially notable. It is not the most advanced in either science, magic, or technology, nor is it the most populous or the largest or smallest. If Earth were to win any awards it might perhaps be for most demons summoned. Rather telling really.
HUMANS:
The majority of Earth is divided among human governance, and in that they are unique. Few other realms are so vastly spread and divided as humans have made Earth. Even before their Age of Colonization humans lived on every continent and only very few islands lacked any human presence. Their lifespans are not especially short or long, lasting about a hundred years at most. Most of their race has at least some talent for magic, though very few ever realize that potential. Their technology has followed an increasingly bizarre path of development; burning fossil fuels, atomic weapons of mass destruction, even breaching the void to study space flight, but even taking these advances into account they are still vastly outclassed by other races.
Interestingly the majority of their race have forgotten the ways of magic, and over the last century a 'Masquerade' has been put into effect by the developing secret witching communities, charming and enchanting and hacking their way into obscurity from the public.
DEMIGODS, GODLINGS:
As the gods become more active on Earth, they leave behind half-blooded children in their wake. These children are mortal, and often never learn of their lineage, living above-average lives as above-average humans without ever learning a hint of magic. Being god-powered doesn't exactly equate to being the second coming of Sheba however, instead they may simply inherit the less arcane traits of their divine parents, and earn blessings or gifts here and there when their parents deign to watch over them from afar.
ABERRANTS, CRYPTIDS, HYBRIDS:
While technically these creatures have existed, and sometimes still do, in other realms, they are viewed differently on Earth. They are creatures and beings corrupted from a mundane template into something magical, usually done by gods, but sometimes done by powerful witches. These could be one of a kind individuals, and others could be a whole race of their own right, such as the transformative and transmissible strains of the many breeds of lycanthropes and strygans (which are vampires and ghouls). Never has any one kind of hybrid been populous by any definition, but that is especially true in the modern day. While magic and the communities associated with it have grown stronger recently, the rise of witches has not been favorable to ‘monsters and half breeds’, but they do still exist, though some might wish otherwise.
The Lotus Lands:
Otherwise known as Faerie, it is self explanatory that these are the home of the faeries.
FAERIES:
Meddlers in the extreme, faeries are enigmatic and cunning folk with a penchant for manipulating others on a grand scale. They have remained the most powerful mortals for thousands of years simply by virtue of their magic. They are mortal only by the barest definition; magic extends their lives for millennia, and fallen faerie knights have been witnessed being called from the grave to live and fight again. Their armies are vast and skilled, their people educated and decadent, and their realm defies each and every law of physics. Those who venture into their courts often don't return, or when they do they cannot remember what they saw.
ELVES:
As a people they are closely aligned with the Fae, entering into contract with them thousands of years ago and becoming their students, and now their allies. Some view them as a lesser faerie race, and they would not be wrong to do so. Elves have much faerie blood, and faeries have much elvish blood, sometimes the line between one and another is so blurred it cannot be measured. They are responsible for the term 'Mice' in reference to Muzes, having derided explorers as mice traipsing through the fields and gardens where they weren't wanted but ultimately were inconsequential. Given the arrogance of elves they were likely referring to all humans, but many witches adopted the term for Muzes simply because it incensed them so.
ORCS:
While that name has been vilified in popular portrayals, orcs aren't so bad in fact. They, like the elves, reside in the same lands as the Fae, but their ancestors turned away from the faerie pact. Some believe elves and orcs were the same race once, elves emerging from overexposure to faerie magics and faerie blood, while orcs became the more primitive tribal nomads spread across the far reaches of Faerie. Still, they're not the most friendly sort either, but certainly not servants of dark lords of any kind.
Darrobad:
DWARVES:
As the most advanced race known, the dwarven realm has vast mechanical grids stretching far underground. Their holds are huge deep beneath the surface and hold many thousands of citizens each, but a recent dispute with the faeries have brought their people much suffering. Farms across their many holds dried up and began to rot, forcing a people who did not know much magic to begin learning so they could break the many curses now infesting their world. Their return to the surface in search of food brought long forgotten disease and once eradicated infestations into their homes. Some holds are now believed to have more automatons than people in them, and the decline of a dwarven golden age seems set on the horizon.
HOBBITS:
A mysterious and simple folk, Hobbit villages fill tiny glades and valleys in certain parts of the surface world, where they existed as almost total unknowns to even the dwarves beneath their feet until the current crises brought dwarven traders to hobbit fields. There is very little to say about their race beyond that, they are rather boring to most.
Torunn:
Simply put? Troll Country. As far as civilized realms go, Torunn doesn't really count.
TROLLS:
Primitive and secretive, trolls are more enigmatic than even faeries. They are not particularly social, and it isn't uncommon for their status as sapient beings to be questioned. They are a diverse people that are good at hiding, and have - or possibly had - some kind of unique magic that granted them the ability to travel between worlds. Their lack of even the most basic intellectual or societal pursuits makes that doubtful to many though. Elaborate conspiracy theories sometimes hint at the trolls being more advanced than any other mortal race, but such designs are to be disregarded and mocked at every opportunity.
GOBLINS:
They used to be slaves of the trolls, though how that happened is anyone's guess. One day there was a rebellion, and what could barely be classed as a war swept over the world. Technically the was never ended, as goblins soon turned into clannish pirates once free and often annoy the trolls as much as they annoy each other.
