Altum patrolled the dark depths alone, having wandered off again from his band of Merbrothers. He had been doing that a lot lately it seemed but frankly he couldn't really bring himself to care. Over the years he had spent with his new family, in this new life, Altum learned the rules and laws that all mermen were expected to abide by. Everything forbidden and taboo to their culture, the highlight of which being the mermaids. Hauntingly deceptive witches that masqueraded as one of their own but in truth were anything but. In the beginning Altum took everything they said to heart, having no reason to believe otherwise.

But as time went on and Altum began familiarizing himself with his new lifestyle, now comfortable with the dark waters that surrounded him, he took more and more time to himself. Finding his mind wandering and losing himself in his thoughts, he began to wonder if these supposed "sea witches" were really what the men said they were. Altum didn't have any memories of his previous life but the one thing that he held onto like a lifeline was the vivid memory he had of that night. The beginning of life anew for him. The maiden that saved his life had to have been a mermaid. He realized that now. But what he saw that night didn't fit anywhere near the description what he had been provided of the vile beasts. Unnatural beauty, voice rising and falling in the most enchanting song he had ever heard, hair and eyes that glowed with the haunting light of the moon itself.

Never speaking a whisper of this, Altum held the memory dear to his heart, secretly aspiring to someday meet his beautiful savior, even if it meant being bewitched like the mermen claimed. It would be worth it. Compared to most of the mermen in his tribe, Altum was still young, having been "reborn" only a couple hundred years ago. However, he was already finding himself tiring of the endless fighting. There seemed to be nothing else filling his time these days. There was something exhaustingly familiar about the battles, the rallies, the scouting parties, something that tugged at the back of his mind that may hint at his life above. Altum wanted something more to life than pointless violence. He had yet to even catch a glimpse of the elusive mermaids and would honestly believe them a myth if not for his dying dream.

The scent of fresh blood roused Altum from his reverie. Suddenly alert, he hesitated for a brief moment before speeding off through the water towards the smell. He would definitely receive a harsh scolding for not sending a message back to the tribe and wandering on his own again. Altum didn't care anymore. He didn't really find himself fitting in with the others and their ideals anyway. Getting closer, he slowed his pace, cautiously creeping upon a wreckage but he didn't sense anyone nearby. Observing the bodies that still floated in the water, Altum judged by their wounds that this was the work of sharks. But sharks wouldn't do this without reason, would they? Could it have been another tribe of mermen? He had heard rumors of ruthless mermen that slaughtered without due cause. Going against his better judgement, Altum decided to follow the faint blood trail that led away from the wreckage, if only to give himself something different with which to fill his time.
Haven't been able to post yet. Been really busy but I'll get on once I'm home and have a computer in front of me (typing this from my phone).

Name: Altum (pronounced all-toom)
Age: Turned in the year 1700 at the age of 24

Specific Skill: Does having quick-thinking and a sharp mind count?

Personality: Stoic and indifferent to most people, prefers to keep to himself. Can get outgoing and rowdy around people he trusts and in the heat of battle. Respects honor and loyalty above all else. Considered a strategist and skillful tactician due to his honed intelligence and logical thinking. Retains the British accent from his human heritage.

Background/History: As a human, Casius was a pirate sailing the turquoise Caribbean Sea in the late 1600's. Serving as Quarter Master aboard the reputed Screaming Siren, he was in charge of keeping order among the crew. Casius's older brother Cyrus having been elected as Captain for his ruthless prowess in battle and Casius himself elected to serve under him as Quarter Master for his logical efficiency and uncommon intelligence during that era, together the duo led an unstoppable force.

One stormy night, as they were on their way to the port of Nassau to splurge their most recent plunder on drinks and wenches, Casius was thrown from the ship into the turbulent waters below. Fighting as hard as he could against the thrashing current, Casius soon found himself losing consciousness. On the brink of taking his last breath, he thought he heard singing. A soft lilting song that held an air of sorrow to it. Thinking it was his dying mind playing tricks on him, Casius closed his eyes against the darkness but not before catching a shimmery silhouette of a tailed maiden making her way through the waters towards him.

Upon waking, Casius held no memories of who he was, not even his own name. The only thing he did remember was the ethereal beauty of that maiden in the night. Out of instinct, he immediately began to panic as he noticed the dark waters around him but soon realized he was able to breathe. Almost a second later he also noticed the tail where his legs used to be.

Wandering alone in the deep where even the sun couldn't reach, Casius was found by a band of mermen scouts somewhere off the coast of the Greek Isles. They gave him the name Altum after the Latin word for deep sea and took him in as a brother. He now spends his days training and fighting alongside his new family, secretly hoping to someday catch a glimpse of the mysterious sea maiden that saved his life.
@CharmingDevil he's awesome and I LOVE that you used Hook for the pic! My mermaid Arys could be his mermaid if you like. Check her out and see if she is someone you would picture saving him. Either way, add him to the character tab.

Awesome thanks! When thinking of who to use as the face of my pirate merman, Hook was the first to come to mind haha! I love your Arys and wouldn't mind if you want her to be Altum's mermaid savoir. Especially if she loves nighttime it would make sense for her to have been around when he fell. My only concern with the connection is her deep fear of humans, especially men. What would be her motive for saving him? If you want to keep it secret for later plot development, that's fine. Just thought I'd bring it up.
Finally have my CS ready for review! Please let me know if anything needs to be changed or added!

If anyone wants their character(s) to be linked to Altum in anyway, let me know! I don't mind if someone's mermaid wants to be Altum's "mysterious maiden". ;) Otherwise, I'll just leave her as a dying dream for now.
@CharmingDevil That's fine with me xD No magical boys . . . as of now. That will come later, I assure you xD

Sweet! Thanks.
I totally face palmed at that last line lmao! I would love to join this as a magical boy but if it's not allowed I might still be interested in joining anyway. I don't usually RP girls so my character will probably end up having a very dominant masculine personality if that's OK?
@Belle Awesome thanks! I'll start working on a character!
I'm interested in joining as a Merman if still accepting new characters?
Inane had just stepped through the Gate leading from the Underworld to Earth, the portal fading behind him in wisps of subdued purple shadows. Looking around at the tall brick buildings flanking either side of the alley told him he had successfully arrived in New York. Inane remembered hearing from some of the condemned humans how fantastic and majestic a city New York was, though he had never actually been here himself. Taking one look around was all Inane needed to conclude that he wasn't too impressed. All he saw was crumbling brick and concrete and the air reeked of sewage and pollution. Humans were an odd species indeed if they were content with calling a place like this home. Running a hand through his short brown hair, he muttered a quiet, "Might as well get this over with," before stepping out onto the sidewalk.

The deafening sounds of the city became increasingly more audible now that they weren't being muffled by the alley. Inane was no stranger to loud noises but these were different. Honking cars, people trying to talk over one another, street vendors shouting to get the attention of those passing by. Frankly, it was obnoxious. Inane was grateful he didn't have to frequent the human world on a regular basis. Gathering his bearings, he took a moment to decide where to start looking for the Goddess he was supposed to be partnering up with. A moment was apparently all he needed as a second later a bright aura barreled into his chest, effectively making him lose his balance and fell to the rough ground with a strained "Oomph!".

Inane didn't need to look to know that he found her. The blinding light that emanated from her was proof enough. Normally those that encountered a God or Goddess would be instantly calmed by their aura but Inane found her presence annoying. It might have something to do with the way her aura choked out his own, painfully burning away his shadows. Inane scowled at the concept that his bright cousins held that kind of power still over those of his father's lineage. The task he was sent here for just got that much more demeaning. He ignored her offered hand and instead pushed himself off the ground. "Apparently you're blinding yourself as much as you're blinding me. Do they not teach you how to walk where you come from?" Dusting off the dirt from his black jeans, Inane glanced at Julia briefly before averting his gaze elsewhere. "The name's Inane. Now, do you have any idea where we're supposed to go from here?" His father had avoided telling him much in a weak attempt to force Inane to work with Julia. Irritatingly enough, it was working...
