Sorry for my absence! A Volunteering position suddenly turned into a Volunteer Leadership position I was not expecting at all so things have been hectic.

Look at you posers, having to bang dragons or sell your soul for magic when you could just play a lute for some. Anyways, here's Wonderwall. - Bards

Sometimes we live in a society. Other times, a society lives in us. Occasionally, society.

@Irredeemable You might not care about crew mortality rates but you have to remember how said crew got killed in the first place: weapon malfunctions.

The crew is most likely going to die with something about their mortars misfiring or otherwise going kaput and if that happens, the mortar is also going to become warped and damaged to the point where it can't be used assuming it still in one piece to begin with. Your rats might be expendable, but your mortars and the price you pay to have them commissioned and fielded is not.
Finished NS. Their stats are as follows:

Richness - 5
Military - 1
Population - 3
Control - 4
Knowledge 4/5 (Waiting on additional Strengths/Weakness)
Faith - 2

@Irredeemable Given what I'm presuming is the current state of technology relating to gunpowder, I doubt you want to actually be using mortars unless you want to go through artillery crew on a daily basis.

Early mortars were inefficient at the best of times and extremely dangerous at the worse. The fact that the GM said most gunpowder is old, wet and in otherwise not top quality would suggest that trying to do use mortars would be exceedingly hazardous to one's health and the health of everyone in the nearby area. You're honestly better off just have a catapult or trebuchet with firebombs since at least operating a catapult won't result in the machine itself exploding half the time.
@ArisenMoon Literally if the word Bamboozle was turned into a tribe of rats.
Reposting just so I don't have to hop between threads.

@Elgappa I'm thinking of having either Hamsters or Lizards. Maybe some larger, more docile animals are okay with Rats putting howdas on their backs and carrying stuff that way.
@ElgappaSay what would be the equivalent of of a horse or a pack animal for the rats and are the crows the only ones who work as mercenaries sometimes?
Putting this down just to record ideas mostly

@Irredeemable@Elgappa

It could be that gunpowder exists but its barely understood beyond "don't set it on fire unless you want things to burn or go bang" and rats themselves can't make it and thus can only scavenge it from firecrackers.
