Hey, again. It's Crumbs. @Asuka will be joining me. We're here to do some stuff about Magical Girls (and Boys), murders and mysteries in Cairn City. I'll be copying most of the information we already discussed and compiling, here; starting with the flavor intro.
Everything smelled of smoke, and her eyes had become nearly useless; but even over the sound of an inferno, she could hear slow and heavy footsteps. Through blood and a creeping darkness, cast in the glare of tears struck by an undulating flare, she spied the tall silhouette. Against the flames, only the stark white of a mask stood out; the rest of him a shadow that danced about in tatters, the empty sockets of the mask bearing down on her with a deliberate sloth.
He's been chasing me, for a while, she thought, ever since I drove off the things around- A sudden jerk upward threw her thoughts into a panicked spiral; realizing with growing dread that she was being held by the hair, well off of the ground; her legs useless from the earlier battle, that she only could hazily recall. The white mask filled her vision, wreathed in a hood, empty eyes and a long series of scratches obscuring the momentary glimpse she'd gathered of the burning tunnel surrounding them. "You..." it was a strange effort at speech from the young girl, and a strange stillness seemed to settle in on the flames, "You were watching them kill those people," a shudder wracked through her body, strangling out the words for a moment as she thought back on stooped blade-armed fiends and myriad cries of terror.
For the barest second, she was falling, the gloved hand wrapped tightly around her hair removed. Then, she was stopped with jarring force, each of the shadow's hands a vice digging at her throat. Still suspended, her legs did not quite kick so much as twitch. The darkness encroached, seeming to allow her only another stark vision of that disapproving, wounded facade.
The tunnel seems so far away...everything seems so quiet... The Void called out to her, she resisted, but felt her Essence ebbing, Why? I helped those people...I saved them! Something in her stirred, and though the breath was being strangled from her form...her spirit reached out. Her eyes opened wide, and a radiance poured from them into the tunnel.
Where her spirit had churned, attempting to pull from the element of Light, the masked man had moved with an unnatural speed. Again, his hands changed position and her perspective switched with painful force. "Saira Embla," a sharp pain accompanied the words, but a sharper surprise, the Magical Girl hadn't expected an utterance from the fiend, "you are guilty of so little. I am sorry that this has to be your end." His words were softer than she expected, far softer than the hand that had pierced her chest, or the floor he had thrown her against. She felt the chill of Ice Essence spreading through her, and opened her mouth; only to have her words drowned out in an outpouring of blood.
Terror sank in. He was going to take her soul.
I know you, she had tried to say, You can't do this!
What called her, then, was not the Void. It was not rest, or peace. It was enslavement.
A Brief Glossary of Important Terms;
•Cairn City; A metropolitan spread with a population of ~7,000,000 people. Home of the C.C.M.P.C and various Strays. Site of Saira Embla's murder. Currently experiencing spikes in Dirge appearances.
•C.C.M.P.C; Cairn City Magical Police Coven. Acts within Cairn City to remove Dirge presence, track down Strega in the outlying area, and protect human lives and interests. All active agents are Magi with varying Ranks.
-Ranks range from D- to SSS+ and are indicative of a Magi's relative strength; but does not necessarily facilitate the attainment of a higher position within the C.C.M.P.C. Strays are also ranked by the C.C.M.P.C upon their discovery and watched/dealt with accordingly.
•Stray; A dispariging term for Magi outside the C.C.M.P.C or another such institution. These Magi usually form their own small groups, or live among the humans. Interactions between the C.C.M.P.C is not usually hostile, but given the situation; things will be changing, quickly.
•Magic; Colloquial term for the abilities of a Magi, drawn from various sources.
-Approximate Magic; This would be the area of Magic that would have unpredictable effects, but remain natural. Something like being able to change the consistency of the objects around you, or cutting the 'stitches' that surround a mortal soul. I'm thinking of these as the first iterations of the Magical Girls that appeared to humanity...so, it seems that they would have a more 'natural' attunement to their particular brand of Magic. Levels of control would vary, from Magi to Magi.
-Exact Magic; Summoning and binding familiars and weapons, and the use of Elemental Essences would be the more exact practice of Magic as humankind would interpret it; rather than the outright exertion of 'divine force', this would be rituals and contracts...all something requiring incantations, precise rituals and reagents, or an existing agreement with another supernatural entity. Anything with specific conditions that have to be fulfilled would fall in this category, though it may function more similarly to an Approximate Magic.
•Dirge; Creatures of varying shape and size, speculated to be the "price" paid for using Magic. Often nightmarish in both appearance and action, the Dirge spawn in Cairn City relentlessly; constantly seeking out slaughter. The Dirge are intelligent, there can be seen glimpses of purpose and tact in their appearances. The Dirge do not wield Magic, but are drawn to it, instead employing their own bizarre tricks.
•Strega; A Magical Girl that has broken the Bond and taken a human life, becoming something between a Stray and the Dirge; carrying the slow decay and unnatural resilience of the Dirge corruption, but with the knowledge and intellect of who she had once been. A Strega sometimes sheds the Magic she wielded in life to attain greater power, gaining almost invariably an Approximate Magic of immense power and the ability to command Dirge.

We'll be talking about stuff, here, too, probably. Hope I didn't fuck any of that up!
(Or you can call it by the full title. Crumbs and Others; Let Love Reign, Act 1, Chapter 1.)
Hello, there, I am Crumbs. You are you. Let's make something of this situation. I've got some ideas that'd work best with a 'one on one' kinda vibe going on. I do a lot of outlandish things. Or, at least, I tend to think of them as outlandish. If you're into that, I've got some ideas below. You'll probably see some things inspired by anime...some things that have to do with the metaphysical cessation/alteration of what is construed as reality...some things that, well, I dunno what they'll turn out like.
I don't discriminate against gender choices or any kind of romance; so long as it feels like it fits the story. I expect at least two paragraphs out of a post, per character (if you're juggling them and it gets rough to include everyone, I understand; I'm not perfect, myself, you know) and acceptable grammar and punctuation. I like people to be open to discussions about stuff, too. I tend to vary what genders I play, and like to have more than one character in most of my threads.
I'm really hoping you're willing to give it a shot. Y'know, writing together and s-stuff. There will be flavor text at the beginning of most of these, then a brief summary of what I'm expecting. As a heads up, I'm really flexible about a lot of things and don't mind working with (mostly) whatever ideas. I'll probably be willing to take on two RPs at a time, given my schedule and availability.
Thanks for having the attention span to read my rambling, thusfar; ideas are below. Check 'em out and let me know whatcha think.
Dissonance Dawn//Emergent Gradation
Welcome [UNREGISTERED USER], to the Camarilla Network! I am your guide, Babs; while I am currently limited by the status of your Sunderance Apparatus to an immaterial form, I assure you that I am here to guide you along the long path ahead with an ever-present smile and a wealth of information with which to assist you, the Novice Wielder! I am so very happy to make your acquaintance, and hope to be of help to you as the mysteries of your world unfold!
Right now, your Sunderance Apparatus is mostly inactive. Registration of both the Wielder and the Sunderance Apparatus will unlock much of the functionality you will need to survive in the Restless World. The Scribe who gifted this Apparatus to you has yet to scry your true potential, and is limited by their ties to the esoteric. That which can not exist in your world without a Wielder.
I have been instructed to replay their message for you, Wielder, before allowing full access to the Camarilla Network.
So, I've been toying with an idea like this for a long time. Essentially, what's going on here is that two (more, actually, later, but we're just focusing on two for the beginning) people (high school kids, duh. bc SMT vibes.) have been given Sunderance Devices (which is, of course, a portable device, that you can choose the visual design of) by a Scribe of the Restless World. Babs speaking to them, above, is a precursor to where I plan to start the beginning of the RP. You can be whatever type of character you want; we can discuss that if you're interested in this particular idea.
The Restless World is an anomalistic plane of reality that is situated squarely between the Corporeal (or 'Real') World, with no usual entrances or exits. It has existed without much tumult, under the careful guidance of the myriad Scribes who inhabit the realm. Scribes, of course, are beings created by a force beyond even their comprehension, placed in the Restless World as curators and glorified janitors; keeping the 'lesser' denizens of their domain complacent and no threat to the Corporeal Entities. While they are gifted with Intellect and Free Will, Scribes are often heavily laden with Possibility Restriction Protocols (PRP, as an acronym...said as 'purp', verbally, I imagine) relegating their potential for meddling in the affairs of Corporeal Entities and ensuring that the Restless World is kept from deviating from the delicate balance it appears to maintain.
It is from that stasis that the Camarilla Network was born. Something in the Restless World has changed; an exit, and an entrance, have appeared in the Corporeal World. The inhabitants of the Restless World, amalgamations of broken human spirits, known as Delusions have begun to whisper of a migration...of liberation. The Scribes created their devices in secret, as their Restless World fell into disorder; as the Corporeal World became more and more influenced by the Delusions set free from their long stasis. It is now that the situation has reached a critical point. Enough so for the Sunderance Apparatus to be gifted into mortal hands.
These Apparati function hand-in-hand with the Camarilla Netowrk, allowing the Wielder (i.e the Corporeal Entity) to summon forth a Vestige. Vestiges are assembled when the Wielder registers, connecting a fragment of their soul to fragments of loose souls that exist within the Restless World and allowing the resulting amalgamation (quite similar to a Delusion, really) to exist alongside its Wielder. While the Wielder's will is the guiding force behind their Vestige's actions, the abilities and personality of the Vestige its self are often extremely varied. Vestiges grow stronger as the Wielder utilizes the various functions of the Camarilla Network and Sunderance Devices.
We'll be beginning in New Bridge City. We can discuss the city, together and kind of map out relevant spots for us; as well as character ideas. I'm sure we'll at least need to discuss the Scribes, the Camarilla Network, the Vestiges and our characters. Probably the Restless World its self, too.
This is one I would like to do.

Man, that got dark. So, this one was very spur of the moment. I was thinking about a world where Magical Girls were a publicly known force. We start off with a murder that a Magi-Patrol comes across, in a subway tunnel; twelve hours after the fact. Saira Embla a SSS Ranked (yes, they have Ranks. bc we need a way to gauge how magic a girl really is) is found dead, with signs of a struggle very evident. From there, we'll decide what characters to play. I don't have much in the way of specifications, in this regard; we'll hash it out.
About the world its self. I figure that we'll have some kind of vaguely futuristic setting with some magical technologies and commodities being available to the public. I haven't decided on any specific rulesets for the Magical Girls, so we can discuss that kind of thing or just make it a categorical affair. I mentioned Elemental Magic in the intro, so that's a thing. It's not the only thing, but it's a thing. I'll provide a description of that, later.
I really like this one. Feels like Magical Girl Noir.
Sometimes, they would leave messages on the wall. Messages to the others. Crying out for recognition through a slick alias or outstanding style. In this particular alley, it was a welcome site. The colors were vibrant and explosive, the dim light cast from small gatherings amidst the litter and refuse. Coming here was more often than not dangerous, most knew. That didn't stop most people...most nights the Labyrinth was bustling in a quiet way.
Tonight, that message was a question. Scrawled over everything in haste. Large black letters plastered over the wonderworks of hallucinogenic nights and countless sloppy slurs.
Why does it always rain around here?
"Damn scribblers, man," came a familiar voice, disgusted, tinged with an accent from somewhere between Brooklyn and New Jersey, "always fucking up the scene." A can of paint was in his hand, more stuffed into a large backpack. His scowl was apparent beneath a tattered beanie and feathers of blond. His friend said nothing, but shrugged, still staring at the words; bundled beneath a wrapping of hoodies and scarves. The cold was encroaching quickly, even for this time of year. "Always the same with you. You got no appreciation for the finer things. I dunneven know why you come out here, with me." The can was tossed from one hand to another. Silent acquiescence given in acceptance and a testing spray of vile green into the air.
"I guess I like to hang out with you. I don't know, either, Gareth."
Gareth smiled broadly and gave a slight nudge to his companion, moving past them and up to the wall bearing the black words. "How about we cover it up, n'really give this place a good feeling?" He was all enthusiasm, slinging the pack from his shoulder and kneeling to begin retrieving canisters. "Which ones you wanna use tonight, eh?"
"I don't know, Gareth. How about..." the bundled one trailed off, turning to the side, shifting and peering around the abandoned plaza, "how about we leave it alone?" They seemed hesitant, somewhat unsettled by something in the distance. Gareth paid no mind, still sorting through his tools.
"Well, you got green...n'I got some pinks or purp-," he spun on his heels, still in a crouch, an accusing look on his face, "Leave it alone?!" As suddenly as he had wheeled, he turned away. "No way. This thing's a damn eyesore and I'm going to fix it," his thumb jerked over his shoulder towards the other, "if you want, go home."
"No..." the obscured friend folded their arms, running a finger along the spray paint they held, "I'm not going back there, tonight."
Silence from Gareth, an oddity aside from when that particular subject was brought up, and the subtle clinking of metal...followed by a long hiss.
"Then let's get to work. Before it starts to rain."
The one watching them almost laughed. The one that 'the bundle' had thought it might have seen, standing across the plaza, all in black. They would find the truth of the words, before long...and just how much work had been done to incite the events to come.

This one is an uncertainty to me, as a whole. Much like the idea above, this one just kind of came out of me writing some stuff down. I'm imagining this to be a bit more 'slice-of-life' style, set in a city that's mostly become derelict; ringed by massive black walls. While the citizens of the city are free to come and go (with commuters from other such ringed cities being not entirely uncommon), life within the walls is often riddled with iniquities and strife. We'll be playing some young adults that happen to frequent parts of the Labyrinth within Circle City E.
I want to explore the lives of characters within this city, while building a disjointed thread that leads to the ultimate truth of the question that may never have even been put forth by our characters. I'd like there to be a variety, here, so this one will be structured into chapters focusing on specific sets of characters.
I kind of consider this one a challenge in potential. We have a lot of room for creativity. It can end up being whatever, really. I am somewhat fascinated by that.
Rainend, when viewed from above, was nothing but a wasteland. Vast expanses of bald rocks and shifting sand. The Druids said that something had come along and pulled the soul from the land, leaving it sick and infertile. The Scavengers said it was a catastrophe of man's making, tongues of nuclear fire licking clean an over-flowing plate. Wild Cherry didn't know what happened, any more than they did; but she could speculate just as well. They were both right, so far as she had concluded. Man had pulled this dark-age on themselves in an epoch of old, through their hubris and disregard for nature. However, that wasn't her problem.
Her problem was meandering between two uneven bone spires, dragging great lengths of chain behind him. Amber eyes caught their glint amidst the grains in ghastly moonlight, watching as they snaked along in a trail that had to be somewhere near half a mile long. Never woulda thought it'd be hard to find a guy like this, came her internal whisper...a voice a great deal more sultry and like satin than her own coarse, sometimes raucous articulation, but I finally got 'em.... She still hadn't seen Rattling Jormungand in full, only catching a glimpse of his back now and again during the two days she'd been hunting him.
The Ruby Revolver at her side issued a heavy pulse, urging her hand almost-magnetically toward it; the weapon's way of demanding action. Tugging at her hip like a child. It disgusted her, sometimes, that the thing was so needy despite its power...and inability to directly communicate. She sat back against an outcropping of rock well away from the winding chains and folded the monocular she'd been spying with; letting her hand fall to the Mineral Weapon's grip, giving it a small, placating pat. She'd be moving, soon...down the steep cliff and through the dunes; giving chase to an Immortal.
Rattling Jormungand is just one, though. How many more are there? Wild put a fist to her chin and stood, staring out over the iniquitous badlands that so many people called 'Rainend'. Is he really any worse than Lady Crimson or The Duke? She doubted it, but when two of the Cardinals called out to you...you listened. However that dubious pair didn't, so far as the assassin knew, spew out noxious fumes wherever they went; at least no moreso than when anyone else opened their mouths.
Still, there were as many stories about the Cardinals as there were Immortals. Some Casteless even said that Lady Crimson was among their number. It seemed like there were all kinds of stories around Rainend. Wild Cherry didn't have one, and she knew that.
Though, it might be time to get my name out there...
Rainend: A waste-land that has persisted since the apocalypse of whatever world existed before (though rare remnants of that world still exist). It is a vast expanse of desert composed of salt-plains, shifting dunes, countless gigantic skeletons and erratically formed mountains. Many types of people live and even thrive in Rainend. Some in small settlements and others in the Cardinal Cities. Creatures of Rainend are as diverse as they are deadly.
Cardinal Cities: The Cardinal Cities are rather advanced complexes, situated in (and named after) their respective directions. The quality of life in Cardinal Cities is considerably higher than that of waste-hamlets, though more strict. Each of the Cardinal Cities has a leader. Cardinal Cities follow the Caste Index.
-The Duke (North)
-Lady Crimson (South)
-Emperor (East)
-Brother West (West)
Caste Index: A system in which one is identified by their respective Caste (via tattoo or branding) in a Cardinal City. Castes are assigned at birth and rarely, if ever, are changed. Casteless (which includes outsiders) are considered to be second-class citizens; though an outsider who obtains a permit to enter a Cardinal City will usually be treated with respect to their business there.
-Raintouched
-Casteless
-Worker
-Soldier
-Artisan
-Merchant
-Noble
Mineral Weapons: Weapons of countless shapes and form, though of limited category. A Mineral Weapon usually possesses an ego/personality of its own and binds its self to one host-soul at a time. There are countless ideas and theories behind their origin, but nothing solid has ever been proven. Mineral Weapons are often of considerable power and are imbued with traits that correlate to their category.
The number of Mineral Weapons in Rainend had dwindled over the past few decades, making them something of a rarity.
Raintouch: No one knows what causes the Raintouch to take a being, but it is a problem that has existed so long as Rainend its self. A strange sticky substance begins weeping out of the pores of a victim, sap-like in its consistency and smells of fermented fruit. The beasts of Rainend find the Raintouched to be unpalatable and tend to avoid the areas they inhabit. Raintouched are even lower than the Castless in the Caste Index and are treated with disdain almost anywhere they go.
It is a slow affliction and is spread through blood-contact. The subject will eventually become catatonic and encased in a Weeping Crystal.
Immortal: Another mystery of Rainend are the Immortals. Those who have longest wandered the wastes. They are usually deranged and have powers far beyond that of a normal being, as well as longevity and durability.
- - -
This one is really kind of up in the air; though I want to have it heavily revolve around discovering the nature of Rainend's blight and the presence of the Immortals (who will probably be Norse-mythos themed). I plan on playing 'Wild Cherry', picking up after she fails to find and defeat 'Rattling Jormungand'. We can hash out the details of how our characters are gonna meet, if you're interested and stuff.
I know this one is ambiguous, despite the bit of groundwork laid out for it. I'm leaving room for expansion. ^^ Despite how it sounds, this is obviously not intended to be insanely serious. I plan to have Wild shouting attack names, just as a heads up. That's not to say it isn't going to be serious or have heavy themes, at times~
I wrote this up for fun, but thought it might make an interesting setting; so here it is! I'd like to give it a shot.
Here we go. I knew today was going to suck.
"A-301, I thought I told you not to be up here while class in session! Let alone smoking!," the outrage was apparent on her teacher's face. A-301, or Aubrey as she was sometimes hated to be called, remained passive, looking at the corpulent woman with as much interest as she might a turd left on the sidewalk. This, however, she could not step around. There was too little room on the roof of Aikaga High. Miss Odana was larger than A-301, being a broad woman with girth that nearly matched her ill temper. "I expected better of a Semblance, but you've proven to be nothing but trouble!" Aubrey was short and slight of frame, even for a high-schooler, bathed in the woman's quivering shadow; the sun hanging high overhead, laughing at her from behind a thin veil of nomad clouds.
You prick... She mouthed with an up-turned gaze.
"I didn't think anyone would care..." It was an excuse born lame, A-301's voice flat and distant. In truth, she was thinking about what Odana had said. A Semblance. The truth was obvious to anyone who looked at her. Every Semblance had crimson irides; their only aesthetic differentiation. She hated the comparison. Just because her ancestors had sworn to protect humanity against some long-gone ancient world-killing bad-guys didn't mean a damn thing to her. Miss Odana bore down on her with large, fervent eyes. A-301 already knew that she wouldn't be sliding out of this. With fury, her teacher pointed toward the door at her back. Wordlessly commanding Aubrey toward her punishment; a meeting with the principal.
A-301 adjusted her skirt, tossed the near-finished cigarette and marched toward her doom. Though, of course, it didn't bother her. She was still thinking. Each step downward automatic and barely perceived.
I'm not going there. I don't have to listen to her fat-ass. I can do whatever I want.
That, however, was not the case. Unfortunately, she had to do just that. A Semblance, when given a reasonable order by one designated as a Handler had to obey. It was part of the contract the ancient Semblance tribes had made with humanity. Now, it was just something that plagued rebellious young Semblances; something that temporary authority figures used to make sure that even the more vicious or despondent Semblance did their part for society.
A-301 didn't want any part of that. She just wanted to live her life without being bothered.
- - -
I wrote that out on a spur-of-the-moment thing and decided I wanted to do something that actually has a focus on romance in my 1x1 threads! Sorry for the character-based intro (I always do those), but I wanted to use A-301's kind of mundane experience in the flavor-intro to set us up for a more detailed and interesting world than what may be expected.
I've always wanted to do a Chobits style RP. However, I also wanted to do something with more action and a more 'believable' robot-girl. There's a lot I haven't explained about this, so if you're interested; PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE send me questions. I would love to discuss this idea with someone.
Please continue your story, Smoke. I am here, despite my belated reply. Posted @ 6:22 PM by Illustrious
we went out to graffiti way a few nights ago to do that ritual thing everyones been talking about. we lit the black candles burned the black paper (with our blood on it hahaha) and took a picture in front of the mirror...everything went fine. or thats what i thought i guess. my friend has been acting weird ever since (this was three days ago) and keeps talking about he feels like hes being followed. i didnt get the same feeling. i guess im just asking if you guys know what the deal with that mirror is? are the rumors true? im worried about my friend he hasn't been the same since that night. any help would be appreciated. thank you. Posted @ 6:26 PM by hallsofsmoke
Interesting, I have heard of such things happening before. You might even be surprised at how common posts like this are, in our chat. I do not necessarily believe that the rumors are true, but it seems like Graffiti Way has a lot of bizarre stories circulating about it. Especially around this time of year, given that school is starting up and the first-years are expected (or, rather, I should say "pushed") into performing this nonsensical ritual. I would suggest seeking out your friend and talking to him about this issue; perhaps even going so far as to advise him to pursue psychiatric assistance. Posted @ 6:28 PM by Illustrious
Don't listen to Illustrious! The rumors are true! The Mirror has power and so does the ritual! Check back over the pictures you took, assuming you took them at all! If your friend doesn't appear in them, then his life is in grave danger! Posted @ 6:29 PM by SeethingSeeker
alright i will do that. Posted @ 6:29 PM by hallsofsmoke
I do not appreciate you stirring up trouble, Seethe. It seems to me that Smoke is having a hard time coping with the possibility that something is awry with his friend. You should think about others before you say things like that. Please try to behave, or I will have to ban you again. Posted @ 6:30 PM by Illustrious
I'm not stirring up trouble, I'm telling Smoke exactly what to do to determine whether or not there is any real danger from the botched ritual! Remove me if you want, but I'm not fear mongering! Posted @ 6:30 PM by SeethingSeeker
You have done such things in the past. I would not be surprised if you are, once again, attempting to goad someone into indulging the paranoid drivel surrounding Graffiti Way and the Black Mirror. Smoke, have you had a chance to check over your photos yet? Posted @ 6:31 PM by Illustrious
yeah. Posted @ 6:31 PM by hallsofsmoke

This is the story of a Black Mirror, some high-school kids and the mysteries of the heart. It'll be taking place in Aikaga City, which is home to Graffiti Way; a labyrinthine spread of alleyways and other such junctions; as well as other things.

There's a lot to this idea, but I'm not going to write it out here. I've attempted this idea with another person before, but unfortunately they had other obligations. I've already got two characters sheets (and introductory posts, for myself) made and would more than welcome another chance to explore and develop this story~
I will add more, later. Probably...more eventually. Yeah, that sounds about right.
XOXO, Crumbs
Edit 1: Minor errors corrected. Edit 2: Added 'Autumnal' and fixed the colors in it. Also a grammatical error. Edit 3: Added a small bit about myself and my expectations in the beginning. Edit 4: Fixed some color problems. Changed some wording. Repetition. Ew. Edit 5: Added ❤'s Wild. Edit 6: Changed a wording error. Edit 7: Added Black☆Soul☆Reflection.
Thanks! And yes, a bit of both is present in nearly all modern technology. Some run more specifically on Esoterics.
Anyway, sorry that I have been absent. My dad had a heart attack a few days ago and I've been kept busy at the hospital and then making sure he gets home. I'll be resuming work on Echoes here shortly. Sorry for the hold-up. Hope everyone isn't turned off by my streak of inactivity. I want to get this rolling, rather soon.
I decided to go ahead and write out something for that question; which superseded everything I was doing at the moment. Due to some fucking code-break, I can't seem to get it into the opening post properly. I'm going to go ahead and post it, here and work on fixing it here in a little bit.
Crumbs. You are really asking me about Resonance. Are you not the one who came up with the concept?
Seriously...I thought I had all the answers. Turns out, I don't. So, why don't you do something; since you're going to be absent for a good chunk of the story...if I have my way.
I see. Regardless of my status as a character, I suppose you intend to use me to pontificate in your place? As some form of "very meta" communicative methodolgy? Or would this be more in line with your idea of how to introduce core elements of the "mythos" you are trying to-
People don't want to read me using you as a goddamn sock puppet all day. Certainly not with me using you to berate me. Resonance explanation, please.
Resonance can most easily be equated to the antiquated idea of "chi", found present in many things; this reference-point is adequate because it gives us insight to the very nature of Resonance, which is, its self, a form of nature. All things contain some level of Resonance, as it is literally the Anchor that binds them to their plane of Corporeal Reality. To understand Resonance, one first must understand the differentiation between the perceptions of Non-Entities and Prime Entities-
Not yet, they don't. That's for later. Stick to the basics.
Simply put, Resonance is a stream of data that permeates what can be seen as Corporeal Reality...the place in which a Prime Entity's consciousness experiences mundane stimuli. This stream of data is more equatable to a moving body of water, rather than something that exists in a constant, but moving, form of stasis; leading to possibilities of areas with low Resonance concentrations. While a low Resonance denotes the first stages of a destabilizing zone in Corporeal Reality, there exist more tangible problems with high Resonance levels. Entities fully Anchored to Corporeal Reality, while usually being unable to harness Resonance without risking their "soul", or being outright unable...depending on which frame of time you observe, can be "infected" by prolonged exposure. "Infection" usually erodes the Resonance Pathways inside of a Natural Prime Entity rendering their entire existence as a part of Corporeal Reality moot; converting them into a Non-Entity form of being. Given that most Prime Entities have a very defined sense of "self", most accept the transition from Prime to Non-Entity as a form of "end"...leading them to become a part of Resonance, as a whole; their remnants broken down and used to Anchor other Resonance-touched objects or entities.
It is, quite literally, the force of "animation" that allows a pre-determined entity, or object, to exist within Corporeal Reality. Without it, Corporeal Reality would be as malleable a concept as Null Reality. Humans have found how to harness Resonance, in their later years; through the use of "Esoterics", which is simply the study of so-called "Godspeak"...or, by the layman's phrasing, "Symbology". While they must use machines that function on and electronic and esoteric level, the true nature of Resonance is very much lost on most of the human sprawl. They see it as nothing more than a convenience, little aware that their influence reaches far beyond the small spheres they can see.
You sound bitter. In explaining that, you mentioned a lot of things that probably need to be explained...at some point. Before I let you go, tell us a little about Symbology. Is Esoterics the same thing?
While the common vernacular is to refer to them interchangeably, Symbology is a fairly common practice among humanity...and refers solely to the study of Symbols, or "Godspeak". Symbology is used in place of "magic" by humans, allowing the momentary re-arrangement of reality through the use of a stolen tongue that they do not fully comprehend. Esoterics refers to the study of Resonance, Symbology, Occult Sciences and other such hackneyed drivel. Suffice to say, the study of Esoterics vague.
Though, that does bring to mind the term "Esoteric Grid" which is used purely in the pursuit of Symbology. Before you ask, a Grid is an arrangement of symbols. A Grid can be composed of any number of Symbols that exceeds eight, and does not serve as a completely accurate measurement. Some Symbologists have created Grids that span thousands of characters, in their pursuits. That said, it is safe to say that Symbology draws directly from Resonance and tends to have adverse effects on those who would wield it.
Could one 'transcend' Corporeal Reality through the use of Esoterics or Symbology?
Probably, yes. Why do you ask?
Just curious. That's good, for now. Maybe I should make you explain everything.
Consider it a gift! I'm going to go ahead and start tapping out stuff like this for Pygmalion's Gallery, the Bond, Anchors and probably Talents. If anyone else has questions, I would be more than happy to answer them. Feel free to ask here, or via PM.
