With the Llangeli present in this world, is the tech level going to be somewhat higher than the average high fantasy world?
Actually, no. The Llangeli Loyalists tend to make sure that their tech is well guarded and the Deserters (both terms will be mentioned in the entry I'm about to put up) are extremely limited on what they have access to. Aside from the Llangeli, tech level is pretty low; but magic can accomplish a lot of things.
Edit: There is also a pretty big language/understanding barrier to overcome, where the Llangeli are concerned. If one were to acquire a piece of their technology, say...one of their more simple devices for communication; a native of Aedrasil would be hard pressed to make much sense of it.
Double Edit: I've added the Llangeli information to the Unusual Races section and added the Unusual Races section to the first post. It may or may not be edited depending on what @potatochipgolem thinks of this. It's a collaboration and all that...so I might've jumped the gun. I'll be leaving the original copy of Unusual Races where it is, for now.
I am definitely interested. I am also adopting the capitalization of Classes, because I'm a small stickler for consistency, at least in my own work.
For a character, I think I'll go with a tiefling Illusionist. Naturally, most people don't trust him. The fact that he's spending time with two thieves (apparently) doesn't help. Actually, it's probably straight up evidence that he shouldn't be trusted. (Really he just needs some people who care, though. And a steady supply of income/food/shelter.)
Niiiiice. Thanks for the interest and welcome aboard!
I think that just leaves one person that we'll be needing...
I'll start work on an OOC thread sometime in the near future. For now, I'm putting down some small bits of information about the unusual races mentioned earlier. The Llangeli will join this list, here in a bit. These won't be expansive entries. Just enough to give you an idea about what they are. If there are questions, don't hesitate to put them forward. I'll be moving this to the first post, sometime later today.
Ewori; Created, originally, by Ragar the Mad, the Ewori were once a race of slaves; sent forth from Gnara's Locks in the far north down into a young Delad. Succubi, they are, or were, in the simplest terms. That was long ago, however, and Ragar has long since fallen from his high tower and disappeared from the mundane plane. As such, modern Ewori are less vicious (and voracious) than their ancestors and function much as any other Deladish race would; having representatives on the Vaunted Council.
All Ewori are women and only give birth to other Ewori. They appear as a human woman would, albeit with vestigal bat-like wings (that they often decorate) and a keen beauty about them, otherwise. The Ewori, being (originally) magically created creatures, have an inclination to become Mages or other magically inclined Classes.
Uquii; A Deladish blanket-name given to the abandoned Half-Fey who appear within the Republic's borders. The Uquii do not have representation on the Vaunted Council, directly, but are allowed to vote for either of their lineage's delegates. Uquii are a widely varied bunch, given their possible parentage, and do not have much of a reputation within Delad; aside from generally being bringers of mischief and raucous revelers. They have no favored Classes, or particular magic inclination; aside from what their Fey blood imparts.
Llangeli; The remnants of a space-faring militant fleet that came screaming into Aedrasil three years ago, the Llangeli find themselves stranded on foreign, uncertain soil. While they appear as human as the natives (when outside of their Environmental Protection Encapsulation System, which is, to simply say, an enclosed bodysuit), these extraplanars find themselves at odds with their very surroundings; if not directly in conflict with the local peoples. They have made a habit of "harvesting" local life for the magic found within it, in an attempt to utilize what they see as a new resource...as a means of escape or a means of conquering, but also as a means for survival. As such, those who have remained loyal to the Llangeli Armada tend to treat all the races of Aedrasil with equal disdain; seeing them as little more than bags of potential. With their advanced weaponry, some of which is kept in good repair, it is no trouble for them to overrun a small or even middling settlement without their being time for reaction.
Not all of the Llangeli approve of this methodology, however; and believe that proffering their technological prowess to heal and cure is much more civil than using a Valravn Frame to set fire to an Elven Nest. Of course, the Llangeli do not speak any of the native tongues with ease; and rely, assuming they have not had prolonged interaction and sufficient chance to learn, (this is moreso applicable to the deserters, who do not usually capture and torture native life as a means of learning) on their Universal Language Application. The deserters are treated with contempt, if Loyalists happen across them; though there are occasions where particularly useful personnel will be reclaimed.
As foreign entities in this reality...it seems that the Moonscratch has a deeper effect on the Llangeli as it would on others. They do not possess a shadow self, but instead the Moonscratch begins rapidly spreading throughout their body; causing horrific mutations that eventually consume the afflicted Llangeli, transmogrifying them into an abomination. The Llangeli Loyalists are, in part, harvesting local life in an attempt to better understand this new affliction...though their efforts have yet proven fruitless.
Encounters with the Llangeli Loyalists have placed a heavy distrust on the Llangeli Deserters, though there is still the Deladish way of acceptance; which usually affords strays (if they can prove themselves trustworthy) a chance at integrating themselves slowly into a society that may well need their ingenuity. Llangeli have no magical inclination, and suffer strange effects from Aedrasil's more esoteric aspects. As such, have differing Classes than most native races. Soldier, Scientist, Engineer and Pilot are the most common.
These aliens, do they have a specific behaviour/appearance/set of traits?
Not as of yet. Honestly, my initial idea for them was to look perfectly human and behave as an advanced human society would; albeit one that had magic involved in their natural evolutionary path. Hence the harvesting of native life. Admittedly, I shouldn't say that they're aliens. They are, but they're extraplanar entities in the reality of Aedrasil...that just hasn't been figured out by them, just yet. As far as I had thought, they would've been a trio of military vessels that had crashed on different parts of Aedrasil. One could be on Tantas, if you'd like.
I'm curious as to what kind of character you have in mind. I may be tempted to play one along with you.
Quick question, we get to play aliens? ---"spacefarers stranded on Aedrasil".
Yay~
Well, yeah. The Llangeli (haven't written anything out about them, yet) are humanoids that have crashed on Aedrasil. Some have made their way to Delad, using their technology to capture creatures native to this planet; harvesting them for magic. Others have essentially gone AWOL and attempted to help the races of Aedrasil with their knowledge. You could, if you want, play one of the Llangeli. They've been on Aedrasil for about six years, at this point. A few of their battle mechs still work.
I'm glad you like him and I hope that the rumours Isyph has heard about Dodger do nothing to make her dislike him, especially if Isyph is attractive.
Admiration is more what I was thinking. She's a Thief. She wants to be a great Thief. He's already a great Thief. That's gonna earn some respect from Isyph. Also...I dunno, I guess she would be. Probably not stunningly so, but at least cute; shit, she's a Half-Fey.
His real name is a secret he guards very closely, but he's known as Dodger by his associates and The Green Amnesia by the law. Dodger received his title because he wears mainly green clothing and for a 2nd reason that I'll get to in a moment.
By now I'm sure you've realised that Dodger is a very successful Thief to have gained a title. This is because he is quite talented in certain forms of magic, possessing skill in invisibility and teleportation spells, and it's even said that he can halt the passage of time for a brief duration and is able to access a pocket dimension to store his stolen goods. On top of his magical abilities, Dodger's success can also be attributed to the 2nd reason why he's called The Green Amnesia. That reason is that nobody can ever remember what Dodger looks like aside from the fact that he wears green, even when the people who saw him got an exceptionally good look at him. The moment someone looks away from Dodger, the details of his appearance quickly fade from their mind.
On top of being a skilled Thief, Dodger is also a shameless flirt with the lecherous, girl-hungry disposition to match. So if Uquii females happen to be pleasing to the eye, you can bet your boots that Isyph will be getting a lot of attention from Dodger.
Hahaha, I'm loving him already. This should be interesting. Isyph may have heard a couple of rumors about this fellow.
@Crumbs I see! It makes a bit more sense now. Will we all be playing Moonscratched?
I can't guarantee I'll be able to join (I'm not sure but perhaps I'm seeing a trend of good interest checks coming to a halt lately, so I've become a bit more wary about which I say I'll join) but if I do, I see the concept of a Guildless Magician whose grim studies lead him to attending the Lunar Festival - and perhaps investigating the mysteries of the cursed Moonscratched ones. :).
I'm leaving that up to the individuals. I figure not everyone would want to play a character with a drawback like that. There will certainly be Moonscratched enemies and the Moonscratch (its origin and the like) will be involved, as well. I'll most likely make a Moonscratched after I make a CS for Isyph.
It blows that you're not totally down to join, right now; but that's fine, given your concerns. I'll try my best to make sure that this comes to fruition...because I like the idea, a bit, now that I'm really getting into thinking some of it through. I like your character concept and it'd be pretty cool to see in motion.
Thanks for taking time to read and reply and all that. I hope you decide to join, at some point! ^^
Would I be correct in guessing that Isyph isn't a human?
Well, in part. I was thinking that Isyph would be a Half-Fey, (Satyr, probably) something I'm gonna call an Uquii. Smaller and weaker than an average human (in her case, anyway), but lithe and nimble; I'll be giving some other indication of her variant nature, though I haven't decided what. Al-Delad would be an adopted name, given that she was a child tended to by adoptive human parents. It would be a name reserved for people of uncertain parentage, exiles or those who have had their family name stripped. At least in Delad, its self. Other places would probably have other customs for that kind of thing.
She'll be a Thief, as hinted at in her part of the flavor intro. (I'm capitalizing Class names...for some reason.)
