So the Samurai was a mix of battlefield controller and duelist, then... Interesting, but not exactly what Lew was hoping for. While the suggestion of self-sufficiency was there, Lew hardly felt like he would be too interested in some of the class's other benefits. As a matter of fact, the more Lew thought about what it would take to be a samurai, the more implausible it seemed. One of the class's requirements was to impress a Clan Leader, a seemingly impossible task for Lew, whose real life Charisma stat likely ranked at a solid -10. It was then and there that Lew realized playing a straight tank would not truly sate his interests. Perhaps he should seek out a more straightforward "swordsman" type class.

Not too long after did Lew notice Kriz seemingly being harassed by... Some sort of giant? Another Ogre, perhaps? No, NPCs wouldn't likely stir trouble with newer players, especially in a starting hub town like this. This has to be a player, and one that likely took full advantage of the character creation system. Before Lew could speak up to deal with the issue, he noticed Ames making his way back, followed by the rambunctious stomping of a certain shitposter. It seems that those two'll handle the situation better than Lew ever would.

Wait. Is Mags seriously... ?!

Lew made a dash for the clusterfuck-to-be, realizing that Kriz has a very real chance of being absolutely crushed if cause and effect ended up happening like Lew had assumed. Intercepting himself between the pseudo-Ogre and his limp companion, Lew positioned himself in a matter where his back would cause the giant to slope off should Ames stumble into the giant in a matter that would topple him on top of Kriz. At the same time, Lew raised his shoulder up to absorb most of the shock of this giant crashing into him, trusting in his absurd Endurance to muscle through.

Lew tried his very best not to tremble as he got closer to the smith, astonished by the many small but important details this NPC had. As she enlightened him on the currency of this region in the world, he couldn't help but be further impressed regarding the nature of this game's depth. It indeed seemed like a fair bit of information Lew would have to share with his companions once they congregate again. At the same time, it seemed that there was another roadblock he'd have to jump before he could experience the rest of the world. As much as a game with proper depth like this was endearing, it also meant there were more hoops to jump through in order to actually have fun.

After a moment of consideration in regards to the potential etiquettes of these lands and how to excuse himself, Lew's train of thought was once more interrupted by the smith's offer to accept his coinage. He couldn't help but produce a slight smile, happy that he would be able to accomplish this goal quickly.

"I thank you kindly for your assistance." Lew said with a rather generic bow, unaware of Horogi's customs, before making his way towards the directed table. With a vast assortment of armaments to choose from, Lew quickly considered his options. A spear was Lew's ideal choice of weapon due to its low skill floor and simplistic design. At the same time, as Lew considered his progression choices once more, he began to think just what it would take to actually earn recognition from a clan before he could become a Samurai. Based off of common tropes in Eastern media, it's likely his skills with a sword would be scrutinized, and since he has both no previous skill with such weapon or any natural Dexterity to make it up, it's more than likely that choosing a blade now would be in his best interest in order to attain enough experience to wield one with some proficiency. It was with this rationale that Lew had made his decision, reaching towards the weapons and making his pick...

A pair of swords, one katana and one wakizashi. Lew made these choices with his rudimentary knowledge of Eastern traditions in mind based off of a few somewhat historical anime he has seen in the past, and a few other things he has read in passing while surfing the web in the past. Something about Samurai carrying two swords, both as a symbol of status and as some sort of etiquette. In Lew's case, he had also based his decision on scenarios in which he would not be able to use his longer blade, such as in very narrow environments. It also seemed sensible to grab two weapons in the case of his allies, of whom would likely spend their funds buying talismans instead of equipment. Allowing them to borrow one of his swords until they could scrounge up their own equipment was ideal, after all.

After tying his sheathed swords to his belt, Lew once again turned to the ogre with another bow, completing their transaction before turning to the direction of the door. Lew took one deep breath as a means of having another sensation to call back to this chance meeting before walking off. Hopefully, he would return to this very same place to conduct business more properly with Horogi's official currency. Yes, totally for that reason, and not for anything else.

Believing that he had more time to make a slight detour, Lew had began to trace his steps from the smithy to the keystone in the center of town. There were some things that he needed to clarify before he ventured off into the wilderness with his allies, and it was likely they would take their time in retrieving their talismans as well. And if he did keep his friends waiting a while longer, it would have at least been for a good cause. The sooner he was able to understand what he could contribute to the party, the better he would be able to help protect his friends. As he made his way back to the Keystone, he placed his hand on it once more, before uttering his query.

"'Samurai' class: specifics, description."

Lew's search for items had quickly felt like an arduous task indeed. Judging by the quality of all the items across the markets being pedaled so far, it seemed as if many of these kiosks happened to be player-run and only higher-level loot was being sold, something Lew could not afford at this time. Perhaps Lew should have joined up with the others in finding the man with the talismans. An assured stat-boost is probably better than nothing, anyway.

Before Lew resigned to backtracking with the rest of his group, he had found himself in one of the seemingly more legitimate parts of the market. The sound of metal being hammered down drew Lew in, as if he was hypnotized by the very sound. As he moved towards this contemporary, somewhat industrialized section of the city, Lew's attention was quickly brought towards an orange glow produced by a certain smithy. Eying the vast array of arms and scrutinizing their craftsmanship, Lew was quick to believe that this shop would have what he wanted. Why Lew felt that specifically was something that alluded him... At least, until he looked over to the smith.

Words could not describe the emotions that Lew felt when his eyes met the glistening biceps of the blacksmith at work, gazing at awe as she bathed the sword she was working on with an azure blaze. The attention to detail the developers put in making their monster girls so far truly was one that deserve an applause. Ogre-girls were something Lew would have assumed he would run into at some point in his adventures, but he did not expect to run into one so early in the game. It was a good thing that he had split apart from his group, as Lew was surely as about as glowing red as the molten iron being beat into shape by the ogre smith. As much as he could spend the whole day admiring the smith, Lew remembered his promise to his friends that he would meet them at the West Gate, and Lew was never one to break a promise, no matter how small.

After taking a few seconds of observation, Lew had finally mustered the courage to approach the smith, less red than before and with silver pieces in hand. "Excuse me," Lew cleared his throat, "but are any of your goods for sale? I'd be fine with a spear, or even a sword... Anything I'm able to afford with twenty silver coins." Much like he always has before, Lew conducted his speech in a stoic, almost monotone matter, though those who knew him well would notice a slight tremble of nervousness hidden in his speech. It was clear that the longer he would spend in the presence of such a wondrous creation of modern gaming, the longer he would keep his friends waiting, so Lew tried to conduct business as fast as he could.

Lew had his eyes closed, awaiting a very expected kick to the groin. Instead, it seemed their fight was cut short due to the protests of some of their group. Opening them and seeing Raymond standing between the two, Lew only frowned. How was he supposed to learn about the mechanics of the game is his friends were preventing him from experiencing them firsthand? It was at the point where Lew just wanted to learn how the rest of the game worked now. Be it from PvP or actual questiong, Lew wanted to do something for him to get familiar with the mechanics. How else is he supposed to know if this game truly will provide that realistic monster girl experience he was hoping for?

Ignoring Mags' taunting dance and Raymond's protests, Lew turned once more to the rest of the group, his attention being grabbed by the now bishounen Amelia. His- Her-... god this is confusing, their suggestion to grab items had given Lew an idea, one that would allow them to solve their issues while he was able to learn on his own!

"Getting our gear arranged is a good idea, yes. Since I don't believe I have any stats I need boosting up, I'll go search the markets for some gear I could use to protect our more fragile members. Maybe I'll find myself a nice sword, or shield... It might be best if we have multiple people cover ground around this 'hub' city just so we can get familiar with all the important locations, maybe learn of some starting quests as well. We could all meet up at the West Gate and actually start the game out once we're more oriented to the game. Sounds good?"

Lew spent only a minute or two of waiting for a reply before he wandered off by his lonesome to look for any markets selling starting gear. He was eager to get started, and wanted to get his hypothetical bestiary started as soon as possible. As he walked off, he began to think of the next class he would get. The four choices all interested him, although Drunkard drew him in the least as he began to think of the difficulty of getting drunk if his endurance was three times that of a normal man. Kekkaishi seemed interesting, but that would involve a heavy investment into MP early on, and if that lagged Lew behind from the rest of the party, it wouldn't be a good idea in the end... Although using what Lew would assume is "barrier magic" to more safely examine monsters was something that did tempt Lew towards that path.

The two easier options to go for were Samurai and Shieldbearer, though it seemed he won't be able to achieve either goal on his own. Samurai involved joining a clan, and Lew knew he would have to talk with his group about what clans they planned to join before making such a dedication. Shieldbearer on the other hand involved actively defending his groupmates while they did the damage, which is what Lew would likely end up doing regardless given his current stat spread. In the end, they both seemed to be the most plausible of choices to take. Drunkard was sadly out of the question, and the investment Kekkaishi required might be too much for Lew to invest in at this time... Perhaps if he knew about the leveling system better, he'd have a better shot.

And so, Lew searched the starter city for any starter gear to use so he could finally get on with the game. There are dungeons filled with monsters Lew has yet to encounter...
sounds lewd
Drunkard, huh...

So if you obtain a class, is it stuck with you for life, or are you able to hotswap it, especially in the case where you start to reach the limit.

Going two days worth of sleep deprivation atm so if I missed this mentioned, I'm sorry.
Regarding the stat boosts a class offers, is it a flat boost when taken or a constant + x% bonus? Like if we level up and get more stats, would the percentage boost raise our new base stat up as well?

Asking for sheet calculations.

Lew counted the number of players, then started to count how many he remembered were in the group all with his fingers. He had to do a few recounts because he was admiring how detailed his hands were, but once that mission was accomplished, he turned to the rest and nodded. A complete group was good, very good. Now all that was left was to see if they would segment themselves into parties or travel as one whole guild. Did they even have enough to make a guild?

Seeing as mostly everyone else had chosen their class by now, Lew figured it'd be best if he did as well. No one bothered to really look up a guide either seeing as they had to resort to asking an absurdly tall 12 year-old advice on where to go. Before he could turn back to touch the stone once more, his attention was quickly grabbed by... wait, what?

Was that an anime version of Raymond?

Lew was momentarily befuddled before remembering that he had the anime setting on. Knowing Raymond, he probably didn't even bother with character creation too hard. Once that was cleared up, Lew crossed his arms and shook his head with a stoic nonchalance he was known for when topics of interest weren't brought up.

"No, no. When I was selecting my stats, I read that END was a stat that governed both durability and SP regeneration. I had just thought it would be a good stat to invest in while I was still learning the mechanics of the game. Never really tried a full-dive of this scale before. That said, I should probably get ready to fill that role regardless. Maybe I should lower my pain settings from a '4' to a '0'?"

Shrugging at the notion, Lew had touched the keystone once more, solidifying his class selection as 'Warrior'. Feeling the minute amount of vitality fill his body, Lew had also decided to ask one question while he was here.

"What are the 'tank' classes of this region?"

Once that was complete, Lew turned away from the stone, resolving to investigate their immediate area for any shops. Unlike the others, Lew felt like he didn't need the talismans too much. Dealing damage may be an issue, but if Lew was the one tanking for the group, it wouldn't matter anyway. All he really needed was some sort of shield in case his END wasn't enough. Thinking on it more, perhaps it would be a better idea to test his limits in battle first before he made any unnecessary purchases...

... And where to test them better with than Mags' open invitation?

"Sure," Lew quipped at the tryhard's offer, stepping forward with his arms spread out and standing in the shape of a 'T', "hit me as hard as you can."

It wasn't until it was too late that Lew would regret his decision, both from the damage he was about to endure as well as the reinforced beliefs that he may be a masochist...
