That depends on your "hat." Each "hat" has a different stance on the ethics and goals of hacking. I'm a white hat, which means I hack to find exploits in software and help others fix them. Sometimes I have to do combative hacking to destroy the technology of others before it hurts anyone else. That's rarer, but considering who I'm often around, it's bound to come up. And sometimes I wear a "gray hat," and I hack for information, not for any defensive of offensive purpose.
